Whynot Adventure, The Keji Outfitters

Buyer beware. My spouse and his brother tried renting kayaks last Saturday at Whynot Adventures in Keji through the online option but somehow my brother in law ended up booking it twice. We think it may have been because of the wifi in Keji which is glitchy. Within 30 minutes of the booking my spouse and brother in law went down to Whynot Adventures which is not owned by Keji to straighten out the double booking. They refused to refund the difference even though my spouse and his brother still wanted to go kayaking for the 2 hours. Apparently, they have a no refund policy so basically you are screwed. We requested a call back from the owner and he was worse. He was so rude and disrespectful that we had to do an audio of what he was saying for the last 10 minutes of the call. We are now in the process of speaking to the Superintendent of Parks Canada. This is not Keji’s fault but it is their brand when a company in good faith offers a service within this National Park. We have been going to Keji for over 30 years and love it. Shame on you Whynot Adventures. I just do not want anyone else running into the same issue we did with this company while on vacation in the park.

The staff are always so helpful and knowledgeable. The gear is well taken care of. Always a great experience!

"Most of our large bikes are out of commission" - said on the phone today while talking to my brother.

I'm sorry what? Middle of the summer and you can't fix them in a reasonable fashion? This really brings into question the ability of the staff if they aren't capable enough to repair bikes on site as needed. Are they even maintained if this is the case?

Really disappointed because I've usually always had excellent service from these folks. Not upset that there wasn't a medium bike available (my brother asked last minute) but the fact the larges are "out of commission" is just bewildering.

Not sure what's going on but I'm glad I have my own kayak and bike now and don't need to rely on them.

The staff is very nice and helpful. They gave us good recommendations of where to go and how to make the most of our trip.

We always book Canoes with them. They are very professional and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Honestly this was the BEST EXPEDITION EVER.
I did my Silver Duke of Ed Expedition at Why Not Adventures and I don't regret it. It was stunning at all of the campsites that we stayed at and the cabin was gorgeous. I had the BEST TIME EVER. I LOVED canoeing in the deep freshwater lake, the gentle breeze that blew on my face was wonderful. I really enjoyed this experience it was brilliant. We even made lasagna over a campfire, and brownies too! We saw so many animals! We spotted five painted turtles, a grass snake, ten brown spotted ducks, a male white tailed deer with large antlers and a zooming red-winged blackbird.
At some point when we stayed at a cabin for one night we went for a night time paddle, and I was stunned at the view. The sky at night was a glowing orange and an inky blue light reflected on the shoreline made the shoreline look turquoise. We saw stars and two constellations, The Great Big Dipper, and Andromeda. The moon was out too, it had a hazy yellow glow in the dark sky.
My favourite campsite was Site 15. Site 15 was such a beautiful campsite, the whole place looked like a tropical beach with soft white sand. I had so much fun, the entire trip was absolutely marvellous, I CAN'T WAIT to do my gold expedition at this amazing place!

I was impressed- very organized, professional service. Great recommendations on where to go for an afternoon paddle- the canoes were great and the staff were working hard. Love this business!

Good place for beginners to canoe and kayak. The river is slow and meandering and quiet shallow. They have a good supply of canoes and kayaks.

Jenna completed her Duke of Edinburgh Gold practice and qualifying adventurous journey with Whynot Adventures over 6 days. She had an amazing experience! Karlene was a fantastic guide who supported the group on this challenging journey. From start to finish, you answered all sorts of questions and provided terrific service. The food was delicious and plentiful. You truly don’t need to bring anything except your clothes and toothbrush! I highly recommend any adventures with Whynot!

Friendly and informative. We were also able to rent an extra paddle and life jacket for our own kayak.

We had a wonderful paddle up the river. It was so magical and peaceful. The boys got to see a beaver up close and we even stopped and went for a swim. It was so much easier to rent than to bring our canoe with us. The team at Whynot were so helpful and lovely. We will see you next time!

Such a get day on the water & the young staff are incredibly knowledgeable in showing you the do's & dont's while out in the the lake.
Don't bother going to Keji unless you go here for a great water experience!

Always helpful before, during the rental and after the adventure, these folks make it possible to reach places not often travelled and they graciously assist you getting there. Can't say enough good things about this place and the people who work there.

We have been renting kayaks every year at Keji for years. It's our thing. Now we are enjoying the easy and fast online reservation system. It's a great option. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Keji needs to be experienced from the water and we can enjoy that without owning and transporting kayaks. Thanks Whynot Adventures!

We had a great time renting with Whynot. They were very helpful and even called us before our trip to help us pick the right canoe and to confirm we were up for the journey. We chose site 34 which is quite a ways back but we really enjoyed all the lakes and the portages were maintained fairly well. We'll be back to rent from them again!

We rented a canoe and 2 kayaks and paddled the lake as well as the river. It was wonderful to have a full day rental to explore as we wanted. We really enjoyed visiting the island campgrounds to see what we should plan for next time!

It was amazing. We went kayaking on Keji river in the morning. Our guide was so nice, listening and answering all of our crazy questions, caring and giving the best advices. It was like being on another world, with the water so still it was like kayaking in a mirror with the sound of nature and water as we paddled. I keep this experience in mind, it was magical

We love spending time at Keji and have been returning year after year for decades. It has the best backcountry of any park in Atlantic Canada. We often bring people out with us that don't have all their own gear. Whynot is a super convenient place to rent just about anything you need to enjoy yourself outdoors at Keji. They have good selection of quality gear and are VERY knowledgeable and accommodating.

This is our fourth Canoe rental with Whynot Adventure and we have only ever been treated with courtesy and professionalism. I often select Keji based on the convenience the outfitter provides, in addition to the attraction of the park itself. Thank you.

From beginning to end, Whynot staff were great communicators, professional and provided great advice prior to hitting the water in their kayaks.

Amazing experience. The "Big Easy" portage is a tough go and once you leave the park and enter the Tobeatic the portage trails all disappear and you are into the true wilderness.but it is 100% worth the effort. There is no comparison to any trip I've done before. Wildlife was everywhere and the river and lakes were stunning. Once out in the Tobeatic, there isn't a sign of people, roads, buildings or anything representing society, just true nature.

Our guide knew her stuff and was very personable. Plus the food is excellent, you don't eat dehydrated MRE's on this trek!

100 percent would do again.

Staff were excellent and very accommodating for our entire group - multiple families all of various skill levels. Would highly recommend Whynot Adventure. We were able to get single kayaks, double kayaks, as well as canoes.everything we wanted, they had! Excellent day on the water thanks to the Whynot team.

This is your go-to spot for boat rentals in Keji. Staff are friendly and organized and always willing to help. Their online reservation system always works flawlessly which makes things much easier for booking.

We rented out a 17ft canoe for a day. The equipment were in fine shape and the service was amazing, helpful and super friendly!

Tobeatic 4 Day Backcountry adventure. Wow, this will go down as a life long memory maker. Paddling Keji is awesome.but to then go on to the Tobeatic Wilderness area and river system was an over the top experience. Cody, Carlene and the Whynot team were outstanding - expert advice, local knowledge, safety, guiding, gear and top shelf meals. Highly recommend. This is not a trip for everyone but it you are up for some work the reward will be there. 69km of paddling and portaging over 4 days. Do it!

Rented a couple of canoes and carts to ease the portages. Ended the trip with an extra 300 dollars tacked onto the bill. Great way to ruin a trip. Be sure to bring calipers to measure the depth of the curvature in the hull of the canoe. They can say there was an increase in the size of the already dented hull, from you using the cart, even as instructed with no weight in the canoe. Your word against theirs and you'll be down 300 bucks.

I cannot say enough good things about this business. They are so incredibly helpful. Prior to our rental, I had to email them because I had so many questions as I needed to book short notice due to changing COVID guidelines. They were responsive and answered everything. When we arrived they helped us load the canoes and were so friendly. I cannot wait to rent from them again.

We had a wonderful “Women of the Woods” Adventure this weekend. Our guide let us set our own pace and very personable and professional. We explored some beautiful lakes and had time to relax as well. All the equipment was in great shape and the meals were delicious.

They staff are always a pleasure to deal with. Was camping the labour day weekend and was able to rent paddle boards one morning and Kayaks one evening. I love being on the Mersey River ️ I was very impressed with the electronic forms. It was so nice to have that all done beforehand.

Our family of four had a great time canoeing on the Mersey River. Our guide, Gwen, was very knowledgable about the wildlife and history of Keji Park, and very patient and helpful with our limited canoe'ing skills. She was able to sort us out quickly after my son tipped our canoe while trying to retrieve a lost paddle. With the steep banks along the river, I think it would have taken us a while to get our canoe emptied and back in the water if she hadn't been there. She even gave us a great recommendation for a restaurant in Halifax that we tried the next day, and loved. All around great experience.

We had a terrific experience with Whynot Adventures. This was our seventh backcountry trip in Keji but the first that we needed to rent an extra canoe and small stove. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating. The gear worked out beautifully and was very well cared for. Thank you!

Amazing experience. Not 5 min in we came across two deer feeding along the shore. Saw many turtles as well. Whole family loved it.

We come here every year and it is one of our favourite parts of our time at Keji. The staff are amazing (even while we juggle children and dogs!) and the supplies and scenery are unbeatable.

The staff at Whynot Adventure are tops! Very courteous and helpful. Their equipment is in good condition as well. A must do during at visit to Kejimkujik!

Rented for the week for the 2nd year in a row. Did it online, so easy to do! Even PFD for the dog are available!

The online reservation service was easy and painless. Prices for daily rental are very reasonable. Equipment (SUP) was in great shape and although it was inflatable, it was very rigid and easy to use. The staff was exceptional; went above and beyond to help with directions, maps, check-in and check out. 10/10 would recommend and will be renting again in the future- after friends we were with saw the rental, several headed up and booked items as well.

Great location for single day and multi day trips. The staff were really helpful getting us sorted and prices are quite reasonable.

Another Victoria Day weekend annual trip to start off the camping season at Keji, and another visit to Whynot Adventure to get the gang on the water. As I've learned to expect since Cody and Karlene took over the concession at Jakes Landing about six years ago, friendly and reliable service supplying canoes and a shuttle. Great to know that they are renewing their contract with Parks Canada for another 10 years.
