Willman's Fish & Chips

The food is very good. The first time I ate fish and chip was in London and it was completely disappointing. When I ate at Willman's I changed my opinion about the dish. It's very tasty

Visited on a Monday around 3: 00pm. I called in my order so it would be ready when I arrived.

Nice restaurant with very nice staff.

The fish was smaller than I would like for the price. The batter didn't have a ton of flavour, but I ordered the light batter option, which may have been a contributing factor.

Fairly good food. This is not a fine dining experience. More of a casual night out. Food was ok. On par with the average fish n chips restaurants in the area.

First time here today on recommendation of my father in law from the 1960's. Fish and Chips were absolutely delicious.

Great place, reasonable prices, and a good menu. Well worth dropping by. Great for groups as well.

Great experience! Great service! Visiting from PEI! Recommend the cods tongues regret not getting the halibut cheeks! I had the fish and my wife the scallops. Both very satisfying.

Wilmans is a fantastic local place for some of the best fish and chips you'll have in the Maritimes. The staff are friendly, the service is fast and it has the perfect north end atmosphere - casual, tasty and well priced food. Highly recommend.

I can't get good clams where I reside. In Halifax this week.
Usuall6 go to the Bluenose Restaurant but went to Willman's today. Small, family run. The clams were fresh, not too battered, good portion. Small coleslaw added; a little too small, but nice matter. Quality equal to the last time. Service attentive. Pricing competitive vis a vis my usual higher profile establishment. I'll return again

For the price I paid for two piece fish and chips - I was very disappointed. It was take away, when I got home and opened the box. The chips where half cooked and clumped together. The fish was deluxe Captain Highliner, at best! Two thin strips. For $22, I felt I was ripped off, I absolutely won’t be going back there.

Just went back today my wife and I had the LG seafood platter, to share fresh clams, fish, scallops and lg frozen shrimp, absolutely delicious.

The food was good and the one piece with fries was just right for lunch. I wasn't too big or heavy and they of course have a two piece for those more hungry.
The batter is not too heavy and crispy and the slaw was just right. The service was fun and personal, in a good way. We will be back.

The fish and chips are great. You can even get Gluten free fish and chips done in their very own fryer.

I have been in Halifax for over 30+ years and I've never heard of Willman's until a friend mention the diner a few days ago. To my surprise it was not that far from where I reside now.

I arrived just after open 11am for a lunch take out. 2 piece fish and chips. Waiting for the order I had a wonderful chat with the owner. I asked about frozen or fresh fish, he looked at me with surprise and resounding responds with NO our fish is fresh, and secret homemade batter and the fries fresh cut daily.

The oil is changed daily which surprised me because we all know what second hand oil used in fish & chip tastes and smell like (horrible).

The order was done in a timely fashion and the smell was amazing this is before I had tasted the food.

To my surprise and delight the 2 pieces of fish were huge and the regular batter did not over-size the pieces like so many other fish-joints.

My own taste Willman's Fried fish is the best I have ever tasted and the fries a wee bit on the soft side but taste the way fries are suppose to taste, like potatoes.

Over all Willman's is hands-down a diner that needs to be experienced. I am Looking forward to trying the light-battered fish.

Please keep in mind this is my review and thoughts on the diner and staff. You will need make your own informed decision by giving Willman's a try.

Ive been here twice for dine in and three times for takeout. The food has always been very good. I think the crux of good fish and chips is to eat it as soon as its out of the fryer, so of course the batter loses some of its crispness when packed up for takeaway. Its to be expected
Recently went in for dine in and had the kafta dog, which was delicious, my 5 year old kiddo had the haddock bites and my wife had the fish and chips. Smiles and full bellies all around.
The gentleman who served us was wonderful; humorous, warm and very kind to our little guy. He noticed when our son was putting up a fuss about being hungry and asked if we would like his food brought out as soon as it was ready. Great service!

If your not showing up here hungry, you aren't going to finish your plate. Traditional battered fish was absolutely dynamite. I had the big bouy platter. Definitely the highlight of Halifax.

I will call it a one off bad day for them. The young gentleman serving us was not willing to smile, almost cold to a point where it seemed like effort was needed to be in that headspace. He wasn't rude in his choice of words but definitely not inviting. We went to have lunch today and even though the place was empty it seemed it would be a nice place to have a nice family meal one evening. Service is very important to us so we may or nay not be back but I do recommend giving it a try for those who have not gone yet. Food was ok but I don't recommend take out, better eaten fresh I suspect.

Classic fish and chips sort if place, and it's quite good. One oddity, you have to order the tarter sauce as an extra.it's hand-made and delicious, but a different way of doing things. Definitely worth stopping in

The owner/chef was the most charming guy, and the food was outstanding! Best fried scallops too not overly done and perfectly battered. Lobster roll was also fabulous. They also had this special sauce with the shrimp and chips that was not only wonderful but so unique. 100 stars if I could

Delicious food as always! The fish and homemade fries are amazing! Everything is freshly made and piping hot. We have always been totally impressed with our meals at every visit!

Had the fish and chips. Nothing shocking or new but was very good. The owner was friendly and service was fantastic.

Easy to see why they're still in business after all these years.

Also was very pleased with how they brought a bottle of tartar sauce to the table in an era where places are more likely to give you a packet

Phenomenal calamari, fish and chips reminds me on pubs in Australia, and the house made garlic aoli and curry mayonnaise was spectacular. A must stop whenever able, I will be back.
