Zatzman Sportsplex

Used to love this place but honestly, I’ve never seen so many things “out of order”, and for so long. Machines, showers, changing stalls (pretty much everything). Some things have been broken for quite literally a year. No exaggeration. It’s extremely disappointing; and some things aren’t even that complicated. A lock is broken on a shower door, and it’s been a year without it fixed. If you contact the sportsplex they just don’t respond, and yet their prices are going up too. It’s just sad. If it weren’t for the pool, I would never come here.

Recommend bringing your own lock. Their system took 2 of my loonies and I couldn’t lock my stuff so lost out on swimming. Too shady to leave stuff unlocked. What a waste.

First time visiting since the renovations and Holy moly the place looks amazing! Just visited the pool, but I can only imagine what the rest of the facility looks like. Everything is modern and clean. I'll definitely be back for a few more swims. Staff were all friendly and helpful!

What a renovation. It’s absolutely gorgeous in here. The fitness centre provides serene views from all angles, pools for all ages and abilities, and I believe they even have a walking/track around the hockey rink that is great for winter running and walking. I learned how to swim here as a kid and 20 years later I’m so happy to see the transformation

This is about the front desk staff exclusively. Ones in the evenings during open swim. Nobody smiles. Nobody says hello how are you.and when you ask them how they are.its long faces and heads down. The culture doesnt seem very up beat and friendly. Makes me think whoever is managing the front desk staff is setting this kind of example. This area DESPERATELY needs some customer service training.and management training too it would seem

The facilities were plentiful and the staff were great.
The pool however was dirty, as was the area surrounding the pool. From dirt to bandaids and grime, it was not as clean as the other indoor pools at other HRM facilities.

April 23/22 took the grand kids today and they found the smaller pool much colder than last time so it was not much fun this time: - (

The staff always seem like the clients are an inconvenience. I never feel welcome when I go in.

I love running our Floorball sports leagues at Zatzman Sportsplex. The staff is amazing, the facility is clean, it is the perfect spot for Floorball in Dartmouth. Looking forward to continuing to have our staff and players play at Zatzman both in leagues and events like birthday parties, cross training clinics and tournaments. HRM. PlayPremierSports.ca loves Zatzman Sportsplex!

Great place to workout, but some of yall folks behind the counter need to be trained in customer service.

I loves gettin a good sweat on. Skating rink is a blast. Lady who runs the skating is best kind. Racket courts are also sweet, but cover your junk on those rebounds. Learmt the hard way on that one.

Much better since the renovations, more easily accessed for everyone and more family focused with the large family changeroom located at the bottom of the stairs.

I have recently retired and went to the sportsplex to see what they offered. I was told to go online, find out what was on offer, then sign up and book your course. I walked away in disgust.
Now I am having problems finding out anything online, and signing up. I'm going elsewhere.

Great facilities and a great pool. Front desk staff we friendly and the lifeguards were attentive and pleasant.

Well equipped rec facility and gym (about average for a commercial gym; no lifting platforms, could use more weight machines), always clean and staff polite.

Covid protocols could be a bit smoother. All payments have to be set up in person despite all bookings needing to be done online. Attending a booking requires a vaccine/id check (each time), checkin at registration counter, and tag scan. Surely this could be consolidated into a single step for members via hosting those documents and booked sessions on the clients profile.

Cold even for a rink. Why are they wasting $ and time flooding before and during house league games? Seems a little unfriendly to the environment.

A well maintained, affordable sports center, with online booking. For a daily pass, of around $8 taxes included, you can play squash/ racquet ball, use the gymnasium, spin bikes, swimming pool. There is also a running track that is free to access on somedays and an ice/ hockey rink for public skating at $5-7. Swimming pool, meeting room, gymnasium and ice rink could be rented in advance for group activities/ events at reasonable prices.

Facility is good, new, clean and maintained well. The staff is polite. The swimming pool area is much more bearable compared to Canada Games Centre. However, I did observe there were fewer life guards around compared to other pools.

That was my second visit after renovation: election pole was in past.
Staff was friendly and made the visit more enjoyable.
I was really surprised to see the new interior, changing rooms, lockers, free weight area and swimming pool itself.
Considering switching from GoodLife fitness: after all the presence the swimming pool is a great benefit especially in winter time here in Canada

My first time back to the Sportsplex or any gym in a long time. Just went for a fitness centre slot. Staff was friendly and helpful, helping my wife and I fix an issue with our online bookings. The equipment in the circuit area looked well maintained, with some shut down to allow social distancing. A giod first experience back all told.

Do I love it? Do I hate it? It's the only place in town for lane swim, though. Covid-related registration system is cumbersome but workable.

A lovely recreation facility in Dartmouth and hosting all sorts of fun and recreation activities, even for the family, too.
Anyone will love it, but first registration and subscription is required in order to maximize the benefits the facility has to offer.

Nice facilities and good membership price. Could be a little better with availability of courts. But otherwise good.

Zatsman is great. The location is awesome, easy to access. Lots of parking, right next to the bus terminal. The facility is nice, and there are lots of options for exersize.

It's a good place to get stress off, pass time and they have just about everything one can look for

This Sportsplex has been modernized to the fullest, it offers so much for the individual.
Good parking.
Handy for bridge coming from Halifax, the main bus route is right outside.
Shopping close by, and close to Downtown Dartmouth and ferry.

Excellent facilities and very nice pool and gym. I have had a membership for the past 8 years and the renovations make it so much better! The gym is amazing also.

Sportsplex has really good facilities & lots to do even if you don't have membership (free). Great place for various options to workout & get active.

Good spot for cardio, weight training, hot tub, swimming, and an array of classes. Also an indoor track and ice rink- and a basketball court!

The pool in particular was a ridiculous experience.
They kept the air temperature cool enough that I was freezing, and my kid's lips turned blue.
The water was ok, but it should not be cold enough in the room that a kid changes color like a 90's hot wheel car.

It's am amazing sports complex! The swimming pool area is amazing along with the gym and the indoor running track! The family day pass is really affordable along with the regular rates. Clean and functional!

Beautiful renovations, a hub of the Dartmouth community. We can really be proud of this as our recreation center.

One of the cleanest community spaces I've been to. We used the change area and the pool area and it was very clean. I liked how they have lots of pool toys, life jackets and floaties for the kids. The rope and the slides are great too.

The remodel looks great. Gym is a good size and spacious over looking the pool for runners/walkers. Squash courts and studios look great as well.

Facilities are great but you need to go by bus on Saturdays because there's absolutely no parking. If you want to drive, make sure to arrive 1 hour before the class you're expecting to go to, so you'll have 55 minutes to spin around the parking lot, trying to find a spot amongst all the cars parking in spaces that don't exist, and parking in ways to take up multiple spaces.

The facility is clean and bright, the staff are helpful. The family change area is probably the best I've seen. If you're going to watch a swim meet however, get there early as there's almost no seating allotted for parents/spectators.

Could use better gym equipment and replace some of the, many, unused cardio equipment. A few neutral grip items and handles, a few more machines for lat pulldown, arm isolation, and abs would have a solid place there.

Also they close whenever they can.

The place is hardly recognizable after the renovations! It looks very nice all around. There is a universal changing room for the pool, which I think is awesome. There are still male and female change rooms but this one is great for anyone going with friends that may be a different gender. My girlfriend and I are often frustrated when we have to go into different rooms and bring 2 locks, so this feels fantastic. The universal changing room is also welcoming for anyone who does not identify with male or female. There are several 'changing stalls' inside and you must change within them. This keeps the environment comfortable for everyone.

First time I was back there in years. They did a great job in renovating and updating the facilities. A day pass offers you so much to do. It was great. I'm a fan and will go back soon!

The pool was great today, but why did your staff refuse to honour our family pass for pirates cove? There was no expiration date?

I go here regularly in the mornings to swim. The facility is fantastic, the renovations are clearly well done. The lifeguard staff, however, are lazy at best and downright incompetent at worst. Watched the lifeguard this morning spend 10 minutes chatting with some boy, who was texting on his cell phone, as opposed to scanning the pool. Even caught her posing for a picture at one point. Sometimes the lifeguards aren't even in a guard uniform, just general facility uniforms, which makes it really difficult to easily spot the lifeguard. (Not to mention anyone in full length pants, a sweater, and sneakers will be significantly encumbered during a rescue). I made a complaint to front desk once about no visible lifeguard, and no one watching the pool. Despite leaving a number for them to "call me to discuss the issue", no one ever followed up.

The couple times I've been in the evenings (when the pool is busier) the staff have seemed fine. Unnerving that the staff seems to feel they can get away with not doing their job just because it's quiet/the morning.

At this point, I don't trust the lifeguards there to notice I needed help, or be able to help me when they did. Lifeguarding is a serious job. You're responsible for people's safety. Any lifeguard who doesn't take their job seriously all the time (regardless of time of day, or number of patrons) shouldn't be lifeguarding.

Really beautiful facility. The ladies change room is small for the size of the facility. Lots of machines in the gym and various pools to pick your workouts

Great place to swim, exercise. Clean and lots of staff to accommodate the vast amount of people there. It doesnt seem pack but it is.

Extremely pleased with the renovations! Just went for the adult only swim and I am very happy with the gender neutral change rooms and level of accessible change rooms and swimming opportunities! Will definitely be coming back for a nice quiet, kid free evening swim.

We attended a craft show here and I can't get over how well laid out the building is! For one, the craft show was wonderful and the track layout actually made it really unique and exciting! Beyond that, the facilities are really clean and the staff are so friendly! We needed a measuring tape to check a certain item and everyone was willing to help us. We plan on going back to check out their services.

We are happy that the Sportsplex has reopened and quickly purchased a family membership there. The staff are friendly, the gym is well designed, and the facility is bright. There have been some hiccups in regulating the heat, which, seems to have been mostly resolved.

Didn’t really get a chance to look around was only there for the swim to see what the new pools like great job on the inside love the climbing wall slides are fast but don’t think it’s worth $8.00 per person for a swim

I have a membership here and I really love the place. My only concern is that they have no sauna and the hot tub seems to be constantly down.

Do not buy membership for weight room! I grew up going to Sportsplex, but the renovations and new weight room are terrible.

Frequently dirty floors and equipment with smudges all over mirrors. Weights rarely put back in place. WAY more cardio machines than required with only a handful of people ever using them at any given time. Free weights are in too tight of a location with not enough for more than a few people at a time. Boxing gear down below is not properly mounted and unsupervised, leaving young teens to horse around recklessly.

From week one of the re opening the roof leaked and has continued to do so. Weight room is regularly too hot with “broken or improperly working HVAC”. Security gates both entering and leaving Sportsplex rarely work as they should.

I always loved the Sportsplex and needless to say, I’m very disappointed in the state of this form staple and leader of Dartmouth fitness.

Has everything! And the communial change room is great because my partner and I don't have to use seperate change rooms and can just bring one gym bag.

For all the money they spent disappointed at the weight room. Same size or smaller layout than original, its impractical

Its awesome, all the staff is super nice and always willing to help you out. The pools are amazing and the gym is great.

Everything here is perfect and makes it even better for mothers with childreb. They can work out while the children play. Great place for everyone

This was my first time to the new facility and I really enjoyed it. I got to try out the rock climbing wall and it was a lot of fun.also a great workout. The gym areas are a decent size with brand new equipment. One gym area overlooks the pool and the other the street.
There are a couple of vending machines but no canteen to cater to customers or large group events. I did hear from a staff.member that THE KITCHEN would be opening in the space next to the gymnasium. That would be great. Over all it has a nice new, fresh feel and there seems to be plenty of options for staying fit and having fun.

Absolutely love the renov's done at the sportsplex! The gym and pool are updated, and the staff are fantastic.

If you intend to shower there, be sure to bring your own shampoo/body wash and blow dryer (not provided like at goodlife).
