In terms of hospitality, this brewery is second to none. Friendly, informative, just genuine people and you can tell they have passion for their craft. On top of that, there is a large variety of on tap beers where many breweries are opting for 3 or 4 beers on tap and the rest out of a can. To put the cherry on top, they have a beer that contributes to an animal charity, what more can you ask for in a brewery?

Very friendly and engaging staff. It's bigger than it looks, room in the back by the tanks. The brown was excellent.

New owners have really fixed up the place. Friendly staff and they had some great new beers. Love the Ripple Effect Lager!

We saw it online at 8: 10PM tonight… and also saw it was still open (‘til 9PM). V’room, we were there in 20 minutes. The ladies working there were fantastic and helped us through our decision making process. They were awesome. Super cheery for a rainy night. Fantastic to see this place in existence. Luckily it’s the perfect distance from my house for a lunch bike ride along the water, a quick stop-in for lunch and a return home to work. My workday is now improved because they are there.
PS: Good little brewery. They have all the things a modern disco’y ‘beer-drinker’ drinks. I’m more of a old-style beer guy; a guy who prefers beer that doesn’t have overtures of flowers / butterflies / unicorns / rainbows. The very nice lady helped me arrive at one which worked well for me. I will return to try the others for their manliness (preferred) or their flowery aromas (not preferred).

Bad customer service.

Husband & I have been longtime fans of 5 Paddles. It’s our favourite brewery (& we’ve been to many). Their beer has been an integral part of many important milestones in our lives-we even included their beer in our engagement photos and parts of our wedding! Even when we moved 2 hours away, we continued to buy beer from them as often as we could (this was made way easier when their online ordering system was created). We were lucky enough to become friendly with the (former) owners & many staff and therefore knew about the impending sale.

New owners means there will be a learning curve and hiccups - that’s to be expected. However, thus far our experiences have been less than stellar.

One of our favourite beers was back in stock so we waited anxiously for it to be added to the website. It finally was and I put in an order immediately for it and a few others. 10 days later we went to the brewery to grab our order. It was only at pickup that we found out that one of the beers (our favourite) had been oversold and was therefore not with our purchases.

No one called or emailed despite the brewery having that information. I had to email them to ask if I could either reserve 4 cans of the next batch or get a refund. 36 hours after my email, one of the new owners wrote and said he’d just refund me. We found his email to be.curt. There was no apology or even an acknowledgement of their error.

To make matters worse, the sold out beer continued to be listed on the website for more than TWO WEEKS after it had been sold out.

I waited a week for my refund before writing again to ask what was going on. Suddenly, I get a refund notification. Again, no apology or even acknowledgement of their error, or how long they made me wait for MY money. This is completely unprofessional. A simple “we’re so sorry about that”, or something to that effect, would have made a world of difference.

Look, I get it - there’s bound to be bumps when you take over a business, but I’ve worked with the public in some capacity for 20+ yrs and I can say that friendliness and accountability go a long way to making people feel heard and like their business is valued. 5 Paddles has a loyal fanbase, not just because of the incredible, creative beers but also because of how approachable the former owners were. Of course you want to bring in as many new customers as possible, but don’t do that at the expense of loyal fans who have been around for years. Don’t forget that those on the other side of the counter (or email account) are still human beings.

At this point we aren’t sure if we’re going to return - both my husband and I feel like our business just does not matter to these folks, and that’s a real shame.

Reopening for these wonderful new owners. We spent a short but amazing visit from Montreal passing through Whitby. Check out their cute flights.float!

My wife bought me In Your Face IPA while she was at the market in Collingwood the other week. I enjoyed it while cooking dinner. Very nice taste and flavour. Not too hoppy. I'm from Whitby so it was nice to try a local brewery from my home town. I will have to drop in the next time I'm visiting to try a flight of different beverages.

Interesting story behind the name.
New owners so maybe still getting settled? Limited supplies for take-out orders. One of the historically popular beers was not being canned. I was there for 20 - 25 min and 2 customers left empty handed.
I sampled the 'In Your Face'. Pleasant, easy-drinking. 2.8/5. I would buy it again

Good beer, finally updated beer pricing to be competitive but sadly, doesn't respond to emails, doesn't update website and rarely have new brews of late. Just a shadow of its formal self.
