Truly the friendly neighborhood comic book store - we always feel welcome and the staff is knowledgeable and professional.

Great little used bookstore. Lots of interesting finds and they also carry dvds. Turn over is pretty high since it's a popular place to stop by so it's worth popping in frequently.

If like to spend some time looking for your next book. Old fashion bookstore, you can actually touch a paper before buying not Amazon.

The used books are fairly priced. I've always found there to be decent valued textbooks that only lag by a couple editions - meaning you can save big as an engineering/math student if you're lucky. They do go fast though. The folks running it are really friendly and always have something warm to say.

I don't like the guy working in the shop I think he was rude the cahishr ignored anything I had to say have to where mask never go back to this store I ask if the game $5 flat he still charged me the taxs

What it is: They have an extensive used book and movie collection. They have picture books, chapter books, young adult books, and a variety of books for adults. They have everything categorized according to their appropriate genre. The DVD and Blu-ray section is surprisingly large. It is also divided into categories: comedy, drama, documentaries, horror, children's, classical, etc.

Prices: DVDs vary in price from $2 to $10, from what I saw. When I was there, he had a dvd sale: a buy one, get one free.

Staff: The owner is very friendly.

Wheelchair accessibility: The front entrance of the store is wheelchair accessible. See my photo.

Mobility Issues: There is a chair inside to sit down and rest. See my photo.

Parking: There's no parking in front of the entrance, except for possibly 15 minutes of parking. You can park around the corner in The Museum's parking garage on Duke St. W at Duke Street Parking Garage. Parking is free on Sundays there.

Still requiring masks! Ridiculous especially when the true science doesn’t support it! Still segregating and discriminating!

Never fail to pick something up everytime I go in here, purely based off of either the selection or advice from the boss. Helpful and informed as always, this is always the first stop when I'm downtown.

This is exactly what a book store should be. Well organized but with the just the right amount of "chaos" that suggests hidden treasure if you're willing to look for it.
Selection is always great with well-chosen books in great condition.

I grew up in KW and anytime we’d come here to visit my family, my husband would make me stop here so he could browse the used movies. They have a surprisingly good selection and we’ve found tons of rare titles at reasonable prices. The books selection is quite large. I like to browse the film & tv books but unfortunately the section doesn’t seem to have a lot of turnover. The owner (I assume? It’s always the same person working) is really friendly and knowledgeable!

The cutest bookstore in downtown Kitchener! The staff are always friendly and helpful and I could spend hours in here browsing the shelves.

Decent selection, but the books are a bit overpriced for used books. Most are in great condition however.

Extremely knowledgeable staff and great selection of books. I came in once in high school looking for Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut because I had to write a paper on it comparing it to other works of literature. Came out with a bunch of recommendations and a stack of books that I still read to this day!

In the past, my friends and I have visited A Second Look and browsed their wide selection. Although we usually browse the non-fiction and historical sides of the store, there is something for everyone.

Now that many people are staying indoors, people are re-discovering a passion for reading, getting lost within a compelling story, or engaging with a gripping historical narrative.

If you find that this passion continues once we are all able to get out freely again, please consider getting books from A Second Look. It will be our actions in the coming months that determine what our local communities and the places available to us look like.

Fantastic place to get books, mostly for $8-$12, as well as DVDs/Bluray movies and shows for under $10.

Great fair sized book shop, easy to get lost in all the great selections throughout all the genres they host - and it's a LOT! Looking for something in particular, want to talk theory, or just have general questions - staff is more than willing to help out and are super friendly too. I have always loved going here, whether with friends or on a friendly community Zombie Walk. I will gladly go get lost among their shelves any day. (^&^)

Anyone who has a passion for reading and books, this is the place to dive in! They have a great collection of so many books and novels!

Great spot for the grandkids. Able to browse through shelves at our pleasure. Books at eye level for the little ones; can spread out on the floor and pick the ones we want. Great prices for excellent condition. Owner always friendly, makes kids feel welcome.

What a wonderful bookstore! The employees are absolutely fantastic and helpful and there is just some kind of magic in going into a bookstore like this and giving your business to a local business. I loved my experience there and will definitely return!

Too elite and far too choosy if you're trying to trade in books for credit/exchange.

This place is a gem of downtown with an excellent collection of books. There's something for everyone and I believe they also do accept trades.

I loved it! They have many book topics you can choose and great offers, the staff was very kind and the owner's dog was very nice too, he doesn't bite or anything. Great bookstore!

I pretty solid selection to choose from. Really good spot for children's books on a budget and fun for any book lover to dig in and explore.

Previously, I gave 3 star to this place. Today, I was reviewing my posts and I thought It wasn't fair, that they deserve a higher rating, so I changed to 4 stars, and got an answer from John.

First of all, I would like to say that I like 'A Second Look' lots, but my point was that if something catches my eye, I check online to compare the price. More than a couple of times, I found out that Amazon had better price. If the difference is not huge, I buy from ASL, but more than a couple of times the difference was more 10 dollars. Since I have Amazon Prime, and only when the difference is more than a couple of dollars, I buy from Amazon.
Anyways, ASL is a great place, I still buy regularly there, and, 4 stars is not bad at all.

Always a warm welcome. The owner and associates offer advice and help, but won't pester you or follow you around the store. I can almost always find something interesting to read on their shelves. They also have a great graphic novel selection.

My go to place for buying and selling books. I call ahead and staff is happy to review stock to see if they have what I'm looking for. Great fast service and very knowledgeable employees.

After visiting this store last week I felt I had to write a review as it seems other people are experiencing the same frustrations. While I can appreciate the “one cashier” excuse for not attending to customers, I feel there is no excuse when the cashier (s) are too busy talking to tend to their customers. I work downtown and have visited this store quite a few times and made no purchases because every time, I stand in line while the cashier tells stories and chats to other people while those in line have to wait until he is finished, then he will acknowledge the next person. I’ve left the store empty handed each time and won’t go back. The prices are ridiculous: these are used books you get for free and charge the same as new books from Amazon who, with a Prime membership, will deliver cheaper books quicker than you serve your customers.

Super friendly staff, fair prices for trade ins and well priced books in very good condition. Books typically range between 5-2 dollars, with the exception of hardcovers. Very worth the visit. A cozy atmosphere filled with the comforting, familiar woody scent of books. Highly recommended for book lovers.

The only thing worse than the prices is the service. Today will be my 3rd and last visit to this store. Each time, I stood in line with an arm load of books for almost 10 minutes only to be blatantly ignored by the cashier who was more interested in chatting with his friends than helping customers. 3 of us walked out today in disbelief and each customer had 2+ books. In the world of online shopping, this store makes a compelling reason to never shop in a bookstore again. Don't waste your time, Words Worth in Waterloo is the much better store at least they want your business.

Always a pleasure going into A Second Look. I've yet to walk out of there without a treasure in my hand. They have a huge variety of books and impeccable service:)

When a customer brings in items for trade in, it would be very inappropriate for the owner and employees to laugh/or put down the items when the said customer can hear everything that is said. Wouldn’t it?
Well, unfortunately this is the case here. And that can really make a customer not wish to return.
Maybe certain items aren’t your taste, but you should probably keep that to yourself.
Really great selection of a book store.
BUT.the owner, can be a bit aggressive in the sense that he can tend to be rude (read above for example as well). I seriously tend to try to stop in when he’s not around. I’ve been there when he’s been impolite to his own workers before.
They rarely-scratch that-dislike taking any books/movies for credit even anymore especially when the owner is there (read above again). I had recently brought in 15 books, many very recently released. Did not take a single one. Usually I’d get 3-4 taken for credit, and I’d spend twice to three times that every visit.

The store staff are friendly and willing to discuss purchases and potential purchases, discuss how often they expect products in etc.

There is a plethora of different subjects in this shop, with a vast selection to boot. The atmosphere is calm, and you can comfortable browse the store for as long as you want. The owners are very nice, and can help with most questions you have, I have come here a few times and the service is always accommodating. The prices are a little steep, and that's the only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars, but they make up for it in selection, for sure. If you are looking for certain books to add to your collection, definitely check here, as I have a found a few that I was looking for here.

A very quaint little bookshop with phenomenal variety of books. The owners have not only done a great job of acquiring books that cover several topics, but they also have good depth on each category as well. These types of bookstores are becoming very rare and that is a pity. You can easily spend a relaxing afternoon browsing through the shelves. I have been to this store several times and I am always leaving with good book. Thanks for the awesome selection!

Love the knowledge staff at this store. They know the stock well and make excellent recommendations. The store is always well stocked and has a comfortable atmosphere.

What a great selection of used books. Any topic you can think of, just wander the aisles and if you don't find what you want, just ask. Phone ahead and they will put the books aside for you. Parking can be a pain right on King Street so park on a side street and walk over. Closed all day Monday. Good prices and supporting the local businesses is good for all of us!
