I've been coming here since the early 2000s and I have to say the doubles and saheena roll for me are top tier quality and flavor. I've been to many spots for doubles to me this is my favorite. I can't handle too much spices anymore so I have to order with slight pepper now. Their peanut punch is amazing too. I would highly recommend this place to others!
All these American complaints I swear, this is a doubles spot is a boss, like these people never eat street food or wha? Acr has been consistent with their food for a long time, 17 years and haven’t had any issues here yet! This is d rel trini experience for food service nice here too uncle and tanty could rel joke to bad
Terrible customer service, rude people standing at the counter. And prices are wayyy too high. Can getting a filling pizza slice for way cheaper than a small double for almost $3.
Terrible customer service. Closed an hour before closing but left the sign on open. Walked in and asked if they were still open as the door was open and the sign was on but lights off (happy to leave if they were not or wanted to get out early), asked twice and the only response back from grandma was "what do you want". K. Then they said no debit only cash, despite there being a debit machine on the counter. K. Fished out change from the car and got my food but regretted not just driving away. No thank you, no answer or acknowledgement from the other side of the counter. Last I checked it was your customers that keep you in business, very odd choice to treat them as poorly as you can. If they didn't want to serve me and close early all they had to do was answer my question, that's it, and they couldn't even do that. Been going here over 15 years and never going back and I'd recommend you never step foot in this place, better service and food elsewhere.
Drove to pick up doubles told him online it says closed at 730 I was at the door at 7 and it was closed bad customer service. You try to support local but local behave like a local.
Tried for first time. Bought some doubles. We generally buy it from drupati. As we were in rush we bought it from this place. We bought around 3pm and by 7 it went bad. Started smelling. Wasn't expecting that.
Yes ppl aren't happy about service but this IS a smaller take-out shop and they make it relatively fresh. Down in the islands, you'd be served about the same time. And remember you don't see the phone orders on the back end that they're trying to complete. Also just cuz you're not happy with service doesn't give you the right to be rude to someone. I've never had issues with service other than me needing to rush because I'm the one that's late. Can't beat the authentic Trini flavours tho. They haven't changed their flour like Roti Hut. This reminds me of back home. Except for no spice. They make it for the North American tongue. Ask for extra spicy. Pholourie dip/chutney changes on who makes it. Not as good as it used to be years ago. Doubles were never my thing so the greasy nature of it doesn't appeal to me. $3 for one also not worth it to me now. Other items better like the roti Works well to reheat if needed (don't microwave, warm in real oven better). And while not accepting credit cards is odd nowadays, it's understandable as then they don't have to pay merchant fees. Cost of food already going up so any increase is going to go down to the customers. Parking is in the back/side of building, or just use the Freshco parking lot. Heaven forbid you actually have to walk to the store. Keep your expectations realistic for a shop of this nature.
Best Doubles in the GTA. Was given the wrong order last time I was there. Very disappointed since the food is so good. Still ate what I was given though.:)
I've been going here since I was a child! My favourite doubles and aloo pie than any other place I've tried. However, a couple times I've received one less pholourie and the doubles dough wasn't fresh.
Last week I had never heard the word "doubles". Someone from work was going and asked if I wanted one. All I can say is that I have NEVER TASTED ANYTHING SO INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. Thank you
First time visiting this spot and Purchased 30 doubles, seemed like they started running out of filling, so they started putting half the amount of filling. Also they charged me full price even tho I bought 30. All other double spot will charge 2.50 when you buy 10, these people charged 3$ each. And for 30 that works out to be 90$ plus tax. Bloody crooks
Delicious doubles and saheena. Don't be thrown off by the low-key hole-in-the-wall decor and vibe. If you can handle a bit of spice, make sure to tell them spicy with the pepper sauce for extra kick. Highly highly recommend.
Went to get some doubles from ACR this morning I am from the west end I was up on that end so I decide to stop I have no regrets everything I bought I was satisfied with the taste the amount to tell you how nice these people are they forgot to give me my current rolls, I called them back the lady apologized to me and said when I come back up I will receive my current rolls what a nice clean place to visit I will go back keep up the good work.
Same food, quality and quantity ever since I knew about this restaurant. I see the same people working there for years. I love the doubles. My go to place for spicy great tasting doubles. I sometimes buy extra so I can eat them when I have cravings. It's best to eat while they are freshly made and hot.
Guy in red shirt was rude. Doubles were dry not the greatest. And got the entire order wrong. Not even worth a 1 star. 0 stars. Acr will never be the same.
Just came from another province to enjoy ACR as we don't have west Indian food in my province. I just wanted to feel like a piece of home (Trinidad) and ACR has always been apart of my childhood. I Ordered my food today, to get stale cold channa and MOLD on my tamarind sauce! Litterally on the lid of the container, fuzzy mold! I'm so disgusted and appalled. I used to come here all the time as a kid and hated the customer service but would go for the food. But now that they are serving MOLD & BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, this is just despicable. DO BETTER! Being nice to your customers is the least you can do, especially if your going to have stale food. What happend to being the best west Indian restaurant in Toronto?
This place was amazing a long time ago when on Markham Rd. I can hardly reco this. I had doubles they were sub par hard Channa and bara and pholourie. Not sure what sauce they gave me but it was not tamarind, and it was terrible.
This places sells authentic doubles and other items with halal meat only. I've been there customer for last 15 years. They maintain quality at very reasonable price. If you haven't tried I strongly recommend this place
I give the Rotis an 8/10 for taste. However, the Chicken Roti needed chicken in it and the Goat Roti needed goat! They both almost had potato and sauce alone. That was disappointing; I've never had that type of Roti experience before. Management would do well to address this shortcoming, as a substandard serving really does a disservice to both the cuisine and their establishment which represents it. I don't think I'll be coming back soon or until things elevate & they start getting better reviews. Their taste is good but the serving wasn't satisfying.
Best doubles, but very expensive and too little space. As well no delivery which makes it hugely convenient to support the shop albeit with the restrictions around this pandemic. Get delivery like Leelas roti and doubles
This is THE place to go in the city if you want hot and amazing West Indian favourites! I've been coming here since I was a kid (and I'm well into my 30s now) and ACR never disappoints! My favourites are the roll saheena, doubles, polourie and aloo pie!
THIS IS MY FIRST TIME TRYING DOUBLES IN A LONG TIME. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE THE DELICIOUS TASTE IN MY MOUTH. I FELT LIKE GOING BACK THREE TIMES TWO IS NOT ENOUGH. THE FRESH BARA, FILLED WITH THE PERFECT CHANNA (CHICKPEA FILLING) OMG SOOO GOOD. THEY HAVE A VARIETY OF FLAVORS SUCH AS REGULAR, MILD AND SPICY. ALSO THERE ARE OTHER MENU ITEMS, BUT THE DOUBLES IS WHAT I CAME FOR. IT WAS SO GOOD YOU HAVE TO TRY IT IF YOU'RE FROM SCARBOROUGH. ALSO GET MORE THAN TWO TRUST ME. AND THEY SELL ROTI AND OTHER FOODS. SOOO DELICIOUS AND FRESH.
Let me start off by saying I grew up in Trinidad so I know good doubles. I got there at 10am, not too long after they opened. I ordered 12 doubles 4 aloo pies and a pack of split fried channa. The first thing that strikes me as strange was that they had no tamarind sauce (aka sweet sauce or tambrand sauce). For anyone selling doubles, this is a staple. Anyway, got home with my haul of food that I was thinking about eating for the last few days. The first bite I took of the doubles was disappointing. The bara was good, but the channa was bland. No taste at all. I had to add salt and even went as far as driving to Danforth Market to buy tamarind to make some sauce. In the end, it was okay after adding everything.
The fried split channa was stale, when something that's supposed to be crunchy ends up being soft, it's never a good thing.
All of that to say, I don't think I will be looking for a taste of home at ACR anymore.
I was introduced to #doubles about 10 years ago and have been hooked ever since. These spicy deep fried snacks filled with curried chickpeas will leave you wanting for more after every bite!
My go to spot is ACR hot roti and doubles which is on one of my favourite streets - Lawrence Ave in Scarborough. This spot has no #instagram page but truly is a hidden gem.
A must visit for some delicious authentic Trinidadian flavours, everything on the menu is #halal #takeout
Been going to ACR for 20 plus years for and has always been up to par. The doubles here reminds me of how it tasted from the doubles man at Couva Sec. Back in the 80's.
I posted a picture of their pholourie, check it out. The pholourie wasn't mixed well. I only realized when my poor toddler was spitting it out and gagging. We called the store and the person who took the call wasn't even apologetic.
Firstly, these people do not know about customer service, it feels like you are a nuisance when you walk into THEIR business and the quality of their food is POOR. All of their food is basically microwaved and served to you.
Tried their Doubles and roti, loved them both. We ordered chicken and goat roti, the curry and the roti were fantastic! They packed the food really well and when we got home was surprise to see the amount of curry and roti we got. The food lasted us for two days. Well worth the price.
I have been frequenting this establishment since the 90s. I have to say the doubles are very good and better than Drupatees in my opinion but taste is subjective and people will differ. The pepper sauce is really good with the culantro (chandon beni, bandhania). We usually get the rotis by itself especially the dhalpuri and the paratha for Eid or Christmas. The curry chicken is pretty standard but we usually make our own so no big deal. We never had any bad experiences with the establishment and our interaction is usually positive.
These are the best Doubles in Toronto hands down and I’ve been to over a dozen others. Can’t beat the price at $2 per double.
The pepper hot sauce here is not as sour as the other places. The chickpeas are much softer. It’s not super messy and hard to eat as some other places.
The place itself is super unassuming. It’s a true “hole in the wall” golden gem. Grab and go or eat at the counter there.
The Aloo Pies are delicious too. They’re basically like a double but in fried bread and have potatoes as well.
Also try the Pholouri (fried dough balls) with the chutney sauce.
Super tasty food and extremely light on the pocket!
Good place to get sahena, doubles, and Roti. I made the mistake of thinking they took cash only so I didn't buy as much. They do have debit but I believe no credit.
To think a real contender is just 10 min drive away hmm. You get no tamarind sauce on doubles a teaspoon or two won't break the bank it may actually build it up, at times chick pea (channa) is burnt.
Love this place.have been going here for over 10 years now.great authentic trinidadian food.my personal favourite are the sehina and pholourie and doubles and chicken roti.and the hot sauce.they need to bottle that! (Sorry no pic of pholourie. I ate them lol)
This place has become a bit of hit and miss. Sometimes I would go and really appreciate the flavours. Especially the curry beef over rice with potatoes. The last two times I went, it missed the mark unfortunately. The doubles were not the best. This time around I found them to be a little dry and didn’t taste as fresh. Not sure if they we’re having g a bad day. I also noticed the stretchy feeling in their ali pies due to the microwave heating. Not too happy about that to be honest. I know the family goes to great lengths to ensure consistency but im very honest with my reviews. Maybe on my next visit it’ll be better and I can improve my review score.
I tried the goat and it was very hard. Needed to be pressure cooked in a pressure cooker. Shrimp tastes really good. Won't give extra roti skin. Deal breaker for me. All in all they are ok
Good doubles and aloo pie. Really nice people too. The only thing they probably need to work on is the pepper sauce and chutney. It’s a little tasteless in the doubles and the chutney for the polourie is watery and barely has a taste to it. I gave a 5 star because other than that the food is good and I will always go and recommend this place to friends and family.
