My Mother had a heart attack and was shipped to Centenary Hospital from the Bowmanville Hospital, at first to have a stent put in and then a pacemaker 8 days later. We almost lost her over this period. Due to her age of 88, her muscles deteriorated so badly that she couldn't stand or walk afterward. She was moved back to the Bowmanville Hospital, who tried to rehab her. She was too weak, but the discharge people tried to push her out, saying she couldn't stay there. They held 5 meetings with me and had me in tears. I called ACE and they helped me by telling me to pull some paperwork off the computer and present it to the discharge staff. After that I was never bothered again and Mom stayed there, but got charged like a nursing home. I was okay with that, until a place came up for her in Oshawa.
I was so grateful to ACE and they were a blessing to our family. I can't thank them enough for helping me to get the discharge people at the Hospital off my back. I found out it is illegal to discharge someone in my Mother's condition. Eventually space came up in an Oshawa nursing home, that Community Care helped me find and Mom settled in well and liked it there. She was totally of sound mind.
ACE was a life saver and I will continue to speak well of them to others, who may find themselves in the same position.
