AKA-ONI Ramen&Izakaya(Scarborough)

Yummy ramen bowls and tried the seafood sukiyaki (big portion with alot of veggies!)! Cute decoration and great service!

The staff there are super nice. Chris our waiter was one of the nicest people ever. The host was also nice and sat us down in minutes and checked up on us sever times. The sashimi appetizer was ok. It was Tuna but some of the pieces smelled fishy. The ramen was just ok and this was the principle reason that we had chosen this restaurant. The decor is cool and it's not too loud thankfully.

One of the better Izakayas I've been to in Scarborough. The quality and taste of food is really good. Their sushi quality is amazing and would highly recommend!

My oh my! Absolutely delicious, high quality, unique flavour combinations and premium sushi available. Its always busy and the restaurant is quite small, I highly recommend booking a reservation. Lots of parking available.

Most of the dishes we tried were delicious. My favourite was the “Black Diamond” maki. Soo good it just melts in your mouth. We also ordered a few other maki rolls and assorted sashimi. Everything was fresh, delicious and presentation was perfection.

The service, decoration, sanitation, and atmosphere are all in place, worthy of a restaurant with a per capita 70+. The food is expensive, and the price/performance ratio is slightly low. One sushi costs 6 or 7 yuan, and six is ​​more than 30. Generally, the first and second sushi are the best, with rich texture and delicious taste. Maybe because of the oil or the sauce, I got tired after the third meal. Two people ate 150 knives with tip, and they both ate 60% full and 70% full.

Great value, quick and awesome service! Came by for lunch and ordered a few lunch specials. Take Bento ($23) was very worth it, I would order again! I ordered the steak rare. They did a fantastic job accomplishing that on a thin piece of steak. Tempura lobster pieces were meaty and plentiful!

The Chirashi Don ($21.99) was filling and had a generous amount of different sashimi. 2-3 chunky pieces each of salmon, tuna, octopus, squid and surf clam. It came with a side of miso soup and salad. To end everything all off, they offered a scoop of ice cream on the house! Absolutely great experience!

Came here for a quasi-business lunch with families. The waitresses were quite friendly. The atmosphere was good although the space felt a bit tight. Checked out the menu, their price was definitely on the more expensive side. We ended up ordered some set menus ranging from sushi, maki, sashimi, donburi and udon. Food quality was decent. I think the experience was good overall. Giving it 4 stars due to the price.

• Angus Beef Udon: overpriced and bad. The beef (claimed to be angus) taste nothing different than other beef ramen, even worse. I could count how many seaweed flakes are there in the bowl. The amount of broth I got could barely cover 2/3 of the noodles.

I paid nearly $30 for an udon bowl that later on was thrown into the trash because it's too bad.

The food quality and service was great. The food portions were on the small side for how pricey they were.

Really cool looking place with the bottles and the interior inside. Food was ok at best as it's a bit expensive on the menu with the portions being a bit small

This place has a good variety of sushi and Japanese dishes. The sashimi and sushi were very fresh! Their lunch special menu has a lot of great set options for around $20-$30! Highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic Izakaya. A little more expensive than others, but great service, and really good food and drinks.

Most things were okay. Wagyu was good cuz it's Wagyu. Do not get the ramen. Lacks flavor, can make a better one at home.

One of the best ramen places in Toronto, it's a small but very nice place in a Japanese style. The service is really nice, you will not regret to try it, just be sure to make a reservation because it's usually full.

This Lobster Don ($25.99) was just divine. Chunks of grilled lobster Shimeji mushrooms & corn in their Devil sauce which was aromatic and buttery. Tasted so good …. Will definitely go back for this.

We also had the dynamite roll. Beautiful presentation and generous sized pieces of sushi. The Tempura appetizer came with 2 large sized prawns and the batter was light and crispy and came with tempura veggies.

Attentive and quick service, food were great with value. Had sea urchin, premium sashimi platter, oyster bomb and foie gras roll, all taste fresh and were right to the point. But we had order beef bone marrow and the portion was so small for $30? They should change the pricing for this

If you appreciate good food, you NEED to visit this place. I wish I knew about this restaurant sooner cause WOW was I missing out!

My friends and I ordered a bunch of dishes and EACH DISH DID NOT DISAPPOINT. All very beautifully presented and the taste of each dish is SO good, you don't want to share (lol).

The chef and cooks clearly know what they're doing and are very experienced in the type of quality in taste and presentation they want to deliver to their customers.

To enhance the experience of our visit, each booth had their own shoji screens which made it feel more authentic and a unique experience different from other Izakaya spots.

I truly wish this restaurant more success and recognition because you can clearly taste just how passionate the chef and cooks are about the food they create and present.

They have a really good selection of food, sashimi and sushi. Personally, I always grab the black diamond roll. It’s a combination of foie gras, tobiko, unagi, flecks of gold on some pretty looking purple rice. Their maki rolls are always super innovative, interesting and unique.

The sashimi we had was also super fresh! The otoro and scallops being our faves of the night.

This is such a chill spot to grab drinks and some delicious Japanese bar food & sushi/sashimi. There was also quite a decent size yakitori selection that im curious to try for next time!

Definitely one of our personal favourite izakaya in the GTA~

Truly wowed by this place. I never had raw octopus before and was hesitant it be too fishy tasting but wow- it was one of my favourite dishes of the night! I also really loved the ‘black diamond’ sushi. Incredible food and wonderful service!

Quality of food: excellent taste, much better than the usual joints of AYCE Sushi. On the other hand, the decor and size of the place makes you wonder if they put 90% of their expense on just quality food. They have divided the restaurant in pods/cabin with a curtain hanging at the open end, in case you want some privacy. We had Saki, wagyu beef & blowfish appetizers and some sushi. No complaints about the food at all, in fact just compliments. The service was super fast - both serving and clearing. In fact, it got a bit annoying for us as it felt like we are being rushed to dine. The price is a bit steep given the expectation one has in toronto about fine dining prices (decor and aesthatic wise) but you get to experience exotic meat and other delicacies cooked to perfection.

What an amazing Japanese restaurant! I looked this place up because it had “ramen” in the name, but we ended up ordering some sushi to share as well. Every single dish in front of us was well crafted with flavour and quality.

I ordered the black garlic ramen, and my friend ordered the original tonkatsu ramen. I tried both, and they had an amazing broth as the base. Tasted very fresh and not the powdered stuff the big chains use. Noodles were cooked well, the meat was amazing, and the egg had a very warm runny yolk.

To share, we ordered a chef’s platter (8pcs). I don’t usually eat uni, but I gave it a shot. It was amazing and melted in your mouth! The other selections were amazing as well.

Salad was served at the beginning, not sure if everyone gets it regardless of the order. Even the complimentary green tea served at the beginning was amazing.

Ambience is very nice, with traditional curtains separating the tables. Sumo wrestling was playing on the TV. Since it was hard to wave down staff, it seemed like the staff paid extra attention to tables so we didn’t have to wave them down as often, which was a plus.

This accidental surprise has turned into one of my favourite ramen and sushi places.

Saw a good review on a Facebook group about the lunch specials. We came for dinner, I ordered a salmon roe and uni don that costs close to $30 (there is a bigger size option that costs over $60). The uni was not very fresh, kinda smushy in texture, the potion was really small (guess that's why the name is mini on the menu). The rainbow roll and ramen were nothing special, I genuinely think we got rippled off.

I've been here quite a few times and although the food is actually quite good and the menu has a lot of options/ variety, I'm taking points off for their inconsistency for certain items.

The beef tataki has never been really good at all. There's only flavour if you dip it into the sauce and the beef is luke warm, plus it's chewier than expected.
The aka oni chutoro is a much better option imo.

The sashimi is fresh and I think the price point is reasonable. Yes it's pricey than other restaurants but the quality and freshness is there.

Their rolls are very good. Highly recommend.

The skewers were a hit or a miss. I was looking forward to the skewers the most since I've had them previously and they were so good. Today, only the pork jowl and the steak was up to standard. The chicken soft bone was so hard I wasn't able to chew some pieces and both that and the pork belly had no flavour at all, relying only on the subtle amount of sauce they pour on top of the skewers.

Service was okay. It wasn't bad service but it wasn't outstanding. However, they are very busy so I understand and I think it's okay to continue with how they are operating.

I will still come back

All of the skewers were great. Sauce was on point, have a hint of charcoal grill smoke which i love.
Sushi and appetizers were great.
Ramen broth was rich and creamy, noodle was perfectly cooked!

My sister and I came to Aka-Oni after shopping for her wedding dress. We had the most amazing experience. We ordered the Black Diamond, Oyster Bomb, Triple-Double, and Crab ramen. Everything was amazing! The food and cocktails were perfectly crafted. I'm so happy we found this place and drove half an hour to experience Aka-Oni. The service was wonderful and we will be back again they even replaced the ramen that was accidentally thrown out. You won't get a better experience than here.

Nice izakaya, with good food and decent prices. Me and my sister shared all the plates and everything we ate was delicious. Would recommend trying some of their sushi rolls. Service was friendly.

We always get their special items for dinner, also skewers, overnight mackerel, sake flight.

The first time I went to Aka-Oni I decided to purchase the VIP card because I knew I would be coming back! The fish was very fresh and everything tasted very unique and the best sushi I’ve ever had. I tried the lunch special after, which I thought it didn’t taste as good as the first time I went which was at dinner time. I suspect that they use better quality fish for the non lunch special items.

We sat outside in a heated tent and had tonkatsu noodle soup, vegetarian udon and fried mackerel. They were all really good, the broth are hearty and really tasty.

Would go back again but. The server and waiter didn't ask us for vaccination proof
(We had our QR codes and ID on the ready).

I came to aka oni when they had just opened the restaurant and here were always consistent from the start. We also dined on the patio this summer and it was during dinner, they were quite busy so we were understanding that the food may be delayed for a bit.

We just didn’t expect for each food to come 20 minutes apart from each other. We ordered a total of 5 rolls and every time we finished a plate it was ANOTHER 10-20 minutes of wait. Maybe that day they were understaffed.

I enjoyed my dine in experience. For one, the decor and atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and there's a little curtain so you have some privacy. I personally tried the regular pork ramen and the torched sushi rolls which I enjoyed. For lunch time there's a discount on some apps so I tried the fries and takoyaki. Takoyaki was super hot and fresh, the fries were decent. There was also complientary salad and icecream on the house.

I took the Hokkaido King Crab Milky Ramen and it blew my mind. It has a hint of Seafood Chowder and the crab is well flavoured!

Also, the honey yuzu is amazing. Must try!

This is a very unique Japanese restaurant. Really creative menue and supper delicious. The atmosphere is also very nice.

The sashimi is not bad but it’s really overpriced. The sashimi tray pictured below was around $65… for about 20 pieces. They used all premium sashimi but it really shouldn’t cost that much as I have been to other places that charge less for the same type of premium fish. When we went that day, there was no uni and the waitress said we could replace it with something else, sadly, if you wanted to replace it with a fish that was more expensive than uni, the difference would be added to the bill and if you wanted to replace uni with a cheaper fish, they would give you the same amount so you wouldn’t be getting your money’s worth. Other than that, the rolls and appetizers were very tasty and the rolls were especially mouthwatering. Service was quick but towards the end the waiters were trying rush us since there were people waiting. I recommend making a reservation since the place is small but every table is a booth so the experience is quite relaxing. However, the sashimi is not worth it in my opinion and if I had the chance to come here next time I would order their rolls and other innovative dishes.

Came for the first time, food was great. Little more authentic then Ajisen Ramen and just as tasty. Customer service was great. Quick and efficient. Offered me free ice cream.doesn’t get much better then that. A tad bit on the pricey side but quality over quantity made it worth it!

Able to call ahead for reservations. Food was good and came out in a decent time. Patio however is part of the parking lot they conveted not as nice as the dine in experience but they definitely tried.

Over price Japanese restaurant with average to low quality food. I ordered the $150 bento box a few days ago.it was definitely not worth the price. In comparison, ju izakaya is much better

The food is very delicious. I really like the new take-out menu they came up for two people. It is called "the Full House". My husband likes it as well!

Ordered the original tonkotsu ramen. Broth was bland and noodles were soft and overcooked. Won't be returning any time soon.

Food is great! I usually come here with my gfs and get really great service. I decided to bring my parents here tonight for dinner and got so much attitude from one of the waitresses.it was super embarassing and I feel bad for the owners for hiring such poor mannered employees. Hope you guys read this and do some re-evaluating

Cute atmosphere and decor, Japanese music blaring in the background and the entire place oozes cozy dining. Excellent for families and intimate group gatherings. The sashimis were great but what stood out was the black diamond rolls, with cavier, foie gras, unagi all on top of avocado/cucumber wrapped in purple rice!

Only bump is the price, it is a little on the expensive side. They have limited fancy rolls as well so maybe stay close to the fish and small dishes instead.

This is a really gem sushi restaurant in North Scarborough area. The restaurant is pretty tine and not recommended for large group. An appointment is the most to guarantee your sit. The staffs are very friendly. I came to try the Black Diamond Sushi and it was an amazing experience and it worth the visit. The sushi has the adequate amount of rice and others condiments, there is nothing to go wrong with.don't feel strange if at night you are not having the tea pot served, just ask for the weitress and there is no extra charge for that. All the seafood is very fresh and tasty, and it is a plus. I definitely will recommend this place for everyone.

I would suggest to try the Black Diamond sushi. It has caviar, edible gold layers, foie gras and bbq eel. All the combination make the sushi veey tasty.

A great izakaya for late night bites. Definitely recommend making reservations as the space is very tight and fills up quickly. We went quite late at 9: 30 and still had an half hour wait.

The aburi set was amazing so was the crunchy black dragon roll. Ingredients were fresh and flavours were on point. Everything else on the menu did t disappoint either. They also have a very expressive sake menu selection. Definitely a good place to go for late night dinner.

First time visiting this Japanese restaurant. Did not disappoint me. Though it's a small restaurant but will definitely return.

Saturday night, I had to wait 45mins to get a table (there is a wait; on the busy days it says no wait but there is). The place looks a lot smaller than displayed online. Make sure you call for reservations! On the bright side, the food was worth the wait and the servers were friendly.

I loved the food here. Everything was delicious and fresh. We made reservations so when we got there we sat down right away. The atmosphere was wonderful. It seems dark but once you sit down you start feeling relaxed. The food tasted amazing. The crab salad was amazing. The pork belly on the stick was juicy. Had the beef with on rice, which was presented beautifully and tasted as amazing.

This restaurant offers an exceptional Japanese menu. I especially like their lunch specials! The sashimi is always fresh.

As an izakaya, they only allow 3 drinks per person. They are not the place to go if you want to have a fun night out.

Cute restaurant, lunch menu had a lot of different options and comes with soup, salad, main course and dessert (usually ice cream 2 choices green tea and black sesame) great service. Restaurant doesnt have many tables, so I would expect it to be busy during peak hours. Clam miso soup was really salty, it came in a cute tea cup. Other than that I would go again to try other dishes!

They were very busy but the service was still fast and friendly. The menu selection is huge, almost overwhelming. Even the lunch specials make up 4 pages, but everything is very reasonably priced. The food was a bit underwhelming but I had high expectations after reading the reviews. Would come back to try more of their menu!

My girlfriend and I go to Aka-Oni pretty often. The food is always good and the price is reasonable. The staffs are professional. Out of the 30+ times that we went, I don't believe I had a single bad experience. Definitely worth trying. They do get a little busy during night time but closes late so we can still go when we close our shop.
