Alinea Dental

Scamming students. Our insurance covers 70%, then because this office is part of the student care network the office takes 20-30% off basic services. Meaning either 0 dollars upfront or you pay 10%. Online, the office says they take 30% off so there should be no cost upfront, but when I called they told me they only do 20% off and quoted me $60, which means that the full price of the regular cleaning would be $600, which is a total rip.

There have been a series of incidents of shotty dentist work from Alinea dental and I had to sever ties. Dr. Hikal destroyed my lower front tooth when prepping for a crown. It's like he took a sledge hammer to it down to the gum. The before and after x rays are shocking. They send you to some shady residential residence in some strangers basement to get fitted for the crown- SKETCHY! Other Dentists are appalled at the malpractice. Beware of the fake reviews on rate your md, if you cross examine the reviews from Alinea and Baseline dental; you can see the same people are reviewing him! Stay clear, run!

I went to this clinic 10 years ago, because it was conveniently located on campus. They did three crowns for me all of which have proven to be poorly done. My two front teeth were capped with a shade that does not match my other teeth. One was cracked when put in, though when i mentioned this to the dentist they denied it. A dentist at a different clinic confirmed this two years later. Recently it has been brought to my attention that another one of the crowns on a molar was unevenly placed in my mouth causing extra wear and tear on the tooth above and making it very sensitive and uncomfortable. Overall everyone from dentists to receptionists at this clinic seemed inattentive, distracted and sometimes uncertain of what they were doing. From discussions i overheard while there, i get the sense this clinic may be (or was) an unhealthy workplace. Overall the money they were making off me and my insurance seemed more enticing than any diligent attention to my own healthcare. I would strongly encourage you to go elsewhere.

I went here for pain in my back molar. The dentist insisted they needed to extract the molar and replace it. This would be a painful and long process to complete and extremely expensive. Insurance would not cover the fake tooth. I went to another dentist and turns out I only needed a root canal. I got a root canal at the other clinic and have had no issues with the tooth since. I am SO glad I did not go with this dentist at Carleton. I know two other people who also had very bad experiences here.

The receptionists are so friendly! Love them all! The place is really cute, and the doctors are really good! Highly recommend!

They have reopened post COVID lockdown and I've gone in twice already. The dentists and the staff are always in PPE and are super helpful and accommodating.

Sought treatment here three years ago and I decided to write a review now. I went for a cleaning and check up. It seems they do not hire competent hygienists. As someone with sensitive eyes, one of their hygienists was shining the lamp directly into my eyes and I have been suffering from dry eyes ever since. Moreover, I had to get a filling done because of a cavity but the dentist who performed it did not do so properly. I saw another dentist last year for a check up and he noticed that the filling was left too wide so that food was getting stuck in between that filling and the adjacent molar so he had to redo it. If you are a Carleton student, I would recommend going to another dental clinic with better hygienists and dentists, particularly Metro dental on St. Laurent.

I am always greeted with a kind smile by every receptionist and the dentists and their assistants are always so kind and patient - it's really hard not to give a 5-star review!

Doctor Hikal and his assistants are fantastic. Very professional, welcoming and caring.

However, as other reviewers mentioned already, seems like the whole establishment does not care if you have insurance or not. They don't check if you are covered before the actual appointment. They check it only AFTER and give you a surprise receipt if you are not covered.

While booking the appointment over the phone and then later at the front desk, I asked multiple times if the procedure is covered by my insurance and I was repeatedly told "if you are an undergrad then you are covered". The level of this misrepresentation scam is incredible. It is almost as similar as door to door utilities resellers. I am legitimately very close to zero balance on my bank account and I don't have any income so the whole procedure was a very big deal for me even with insurance coverage. The older lady at the front was very rude, did not care and really wanted to make me feel like I was trying to scam her. Having expressed my frustration, she said that she doesn't care about my situation. She tried to put the blame on me. She was very pushy, rude and very unprofessional. She also refused to apologize after I mentioned that I felt offended for the way she spoke to me.

Note, that the other two ladies at the front desk are absolutely amazing, friendly and very welcoming.

Also, have a look at their replies to some reviews. Their underlying rudeness is at a pro level and seems like it could be the same rude lady from the front desk as the "style" is very similar.

I ended up paying half of my rent for next month and I don't have any more money left.
Never coming back to this place again.

I love this dental office. My family and I have been coming here for 7 years and I’m very satisfied. All of the staff are very knowledgeable, nice and helpful. I always feel comfortable coming here for my appointments. I highly recommend this office!

I was their patient several years ago. I wish their doctors said to me that I need to rinse my teeth after drinking any cups of coffee when their doctors visited high number of decays in my mouth. On the case I could prevent it but they filled many of teeth and never said how can I prevent decay occurrence!

I moved to Ottawa from Toronto, suffered from sensitive teeth for over 10 years, my previous dentist said it is normal for my age. Dr. Lubanski in one and half hour fixed the problem, my teeth were covered with fillings and she made sure there is no sensitive spot left out. The procedure was painless and not expensive. Dr. Lubanski showed me her kindness and great care. I appreciate her honesty and integrity. Love her and my "new" whiter, not sensitive teeth. Thank you doc Lubanski.

Been going to Alinea since I went to Carleton U almost a decade ago. The staff has always been lovely and diligent. Just went back today with Dr Tang for two fillings. He was so gentle I almost fell asleep in the chair. In and out in an hour. Highly recommend this office.

! DO NOT GO HERE! It’s literally a scam. They literally scam students by saying they’re dental work will be less than it is and then charge you for way more way later. I was told that my insurance would cover most of the work I had I done. I always made sure to ask and they always reassured me that my insurance was enough. On the day of my wisdom tooth extraction they surprised me with a $225 fee when they told me that my insurance had ran out. On top of that, 6 months later they contacted me AGAIN saying that I owed them an additional $330. This charge was not discussed with me nor did they make me aware of it at the time I got the work done. If I had known it was going to cost this much I would not have followed through with the work. On top of that they didn’t provide me with any estimates for the additional work I had done and reassured me multiple times and it was covered by insurance. I had to cancel a trip home because they contacted me so late with such an outrageous charge. When I went to discuss the charge with them they told me that this happens all the time which makes me believe that they are constantly scamming students by telling them one thing and then slamming them months later with additional charges. It is quite dishonest and frankly quite shady. Please don’t make the same mistake I did and go elsewhere for work where they are more upfront.

Please find another dentist! They always charge extra fees for everything. I went for cleaning and had one cleaning by my endurance for free, and they wanted to charge me 60$ extra. I got the cleaning done without any charges else where. VERY DISHONEST!

I went here about a year ago. I had a mild cavity and they said it was so small I would not need anesthesia. They used a numbing gel, didn't wait for it to set and started drilling. The dentist realized it was worse than they thought and told me. She told me it was too late for any pain relief, kept drilling and I had to get through it. I left in pain and tears. They didn't apologize.
Find a different office that cares about you. Convenience should not matter more than safety and quality.
Do research, go somewhere else in the city, and stand up for yourself.

They are all nice!
I really suggest you to go there if you are student and even non student.

Came in for a simple checkup, came out with a $6000 treatment plan. I had urgent cavities (7) that needed to be filled, along with a possible root canal. Went for a second opinion at an office downtown, they said I’m fine.

This office kept calling and emailing me to come in even though I told them I didn’t want to see them anymore. I don’t recommend this place. It seems they find issues where there are none, and conveniently get you on a pricey $$$ plan regardless if you need it or not.

Wonderful staff, patient hygienists, informative and supportive dentist and otho care. I've been a patient for 15 years including Ortho work, and now they see our whole family. They are very patient with our children and go above and beyond to meet our scheduling needs too.

If I’m being honest this dental office shouldn’t even receive one star. I have had nothing but issues with them. I’ve travelled all the way there to be told my appointment is cancelled as they have no one there to preform what I needed done (impressions for a bite guard) No phone call, no email. I had to go all the way there to find this out. On January 17 I was supposed to have a gum graft surgery preformed. This was booked in late November/early December. I arrived early morning for my procedure. To then be told after filling out all the required pre surgical forms that my surgery is cancelled. I was told the surgeon didn’t have the surgical equipment. As a dental office that preforms these types of surgery’s often, you would think that they would have the required instruments. OR knowing 2 months in advance that my surgery date was this day, that they would ensure they were prepared just as I was. Dental surgery has complications just as any surgery would. So having these running through my head, many people including myself would be extremely anxious. So for me to go through all this to then be told my surgery is cancelled because the surgeon didn’t have ANY of his surgical instruments does not give me any confidence or trust that this dentist office has the ability to take care of me or any other patient here. Terrible experiences one too many times.

I went to Alinea Dental to have 4 wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Hikal preformed my service. Going in I was nervous, but Dr. Hikal took the time to explain everything, to help me feel more comfortable. In the end, I decided to go with the laughing gas to help me relax. An additional cost, but worth it. The procedure was fast and efficiant, I did not experience any pain during the procedure, and after, the pain has been minimal. Dr. Hikal, his assistant (Sorry, I don't recall her name), Christian, and the ladies at the front desk have all been so kind to me and are very knowledgable.

I've been visiting this dental clinic for a long time now. Always greeted with a smile. Professional service guaranteed! Highly recommend this place for all your teeth needs!

I have been coming to this office for over 5 years and I have never left a review and felt I wanted to express my appreciation to the staff. I have always been treated with kindness and professionalism. I have never felt pressured into doing any dentistry but have been well informed as to what my options are and why a procedure is recommended. I look forward to having a long standing relationship with Alinea Dental!

Only the dental hygienists are competent here, so only use their teeth cleaning services. I've had bad experiences with two different dentists where my I had fillings done improperly. Once the sealant was put on sloppy and I had globs of it hardened on my teeth. The second time my filling fell out after several months.

My friend recommended this dental to me cause it has dentist who can speak in Mandarin so I made the appointment with this dentist to do a test which took me 200 Canadian dollar. (I told the foregound I have UHIP and she told me it was not valid cause I just took 3 courses but my friend told me the fee can be corvered before). After the first test, I told the dentist that i will come back to China so I will not take the operation there but they still arrange another appointment for me and without telling me what will do. So I meet with the dentist today again, the dentist just checked my teeth and then I was told to pay for 135 Canadian dollar again!

The staff is very nice and so are the dentists. They will try to accommodate you as much as they can. Procedures are done well, I have not had any issues at all until now. Keep up the good work!

It has been 5 years since my first visit to Alinea Dental.
I remember the first time my wife and I came in and at the door they had a sign saying "We cater to cowards of all ages" This had me doubled up in laughter which earned me a swift punch from my dearest:)
You see, my wife would rather get a root canal than visit the dentist:) Sorry,.. I mean she would rather shove red hot poker in her eye than see the dentist; On her list of the things she would rather not do; visiting the dentist will be in caps, bolded, double spaced, highlighted and right on top of the list. I am sure you get what I mean by now. But today she actually calls and makes her appointments and sets a REMINDER! *Round of Applause*... And I credit the wonderful staff of Alinea Dental for that.:)
The staff at Alinea Dental are so welcoming. Make you feel right at ease. From the front desk staff who always welcome you with a beautiful smile and do an amazing job with helping you through all the bookings and paper work, through to the hygienist and doctors who take the time to review every minute detail in your file and take you through a totally painless procedure.

We have been going to Alinea Dental for over 5 years, and wanted to share a review. We love the professionalism and the knowledgeable staff at this dental office. The administration staff at the front desk, the dental hygienists and the dentists are all top notch. Dr Hikal is the dentist we see and he is the best dentist we have ever had. He puts the patient first, explains things in great detail and always offers alternative solutions. We would highly recommend this dental clinic for that beautiful smile of yours and dental experience that isn't nerve racking.

Modern dental office and high tech. However, they have a scheme of charging patients in 15min intervals which can increase costs substantially (even with a 90% insurance plan). Basically, if a cleaning takes a long time, the extra time is $ coming out your pocket (100% that you pay for). I wouldnt have had an issue with their model if they were forthright, but lacking transparency and simply charging for the extra time after the fact did not sit well. There are plenty of other dentist offices that will charge a flat rate for simple procedures such as cleaning. I suggest researching other options before settling with Alinea.
