Alliance Française Ottawa

Alliance Française is an excellent school for upgrading and "tuning up" your French. I especially enjoy the group classes which are more dynamic and interesting than other schools I have tried. The quality of their teachers is high and the cultural events they offer are a great addition to the classroom learning. Would recommend this language school!

I have taken group and private courses at Alliance Francaise (Ottawa) to prepare for Government of Canada written and oral tests. The group class focused on grammar and was the perfect refresher on rules, outlined strategy for different types of questions, and offered group practice/explanation of correct results. Group classes for oral had too many students to make meaningful progress, but private tutoring was great. Tutoring focused on enriching vocabulary and making sentence structure more complex. The class and supporting materials were specific to my weaknesses and drilled down on opinion-type questions. I would recommend Alliance Francaise.

I am amazed by how Karim was able to refresh my grammar, correct all the mistakes including pronunciation and give plenty of valuable advice and material within such a short period of time - only a month. Everything was super helpful and I am beyond thankful!
The teacher definitely knows the exam structure well and can guide you, specially if is your first experience with the SLE.

The reception staff is also very helpful. They always reply fast to my questions, and are thorough in their responses.

I previously took Business French with Chitra and regular courses with Henri, and was happy with the program and my progress. All the teachers that I was dealing with were friendly professional, I loved the atmosphere in the group.

Sharing this review as I have been studying part time with AF for 2 years now and a couple of months ago I wrote the Government of Canada tests and received a BB in my written expression and comprehension! My oral is currently awaiting testing. I started from having very little (grade 10 French) starting from A1.1 and now in B1.2. I have had several different teachers who all bring their personal style and strengths and I have loved them all so far!

In terms of improvement, sometimes I think a bit more time could be spent introducing a new grammar rule before getting into the exercises, but whenever I ask for extra help, all teachers have been patient with me and encouraging, which is so very much appreciated for someone who sometimes feels silly or like I'm doing it all wrong. I have had one course cancelled due to low enrollment but an alternative was offered to me, which was very helpful.

Overall I would most definitely recommend Alliance Française to anyone looking to improve their French and have some fun while they do it! Thank you again AF for your continued support. The loyalty discount is also very much appreciated! Merci beaucoup!

After two emails and a phone call confirming that the school was offering one-on-one in-person training, as well as making me take an assessment test that my employer paid for, the school suddenly tell me that they haven't been offering this type of training since covid-19.

Don't waste your time with this utterly unorganized school.

I took my TEF exam here but I wish that I hadn’t. They wasted my 4 months of study by their mistake. I still can’t believe that the supervisor played the listening’s exam podcast to test the headphone.

Very central location. Each Alliance Française at each city operates differently.
This one they advertise using various social media including meet up. Most events are geared for adults and French nationals. But they also offer lessons and chats for people who want to learn and speak more French.
They also offer many member specific programs and events so most French traditional holidays are followed and as well as the traditional dishes and celebrations.
