Al's Diner

We enjoyed Cathy so much, she had us laughing throughout our breakfast at Al’s. Portions are good, food is tasty, prices are super reasonable. Perfect stop for a hangover breakfast before heading out of town after a weekend in Ottawa.

This is my Friend’s favorite restaurant so we always hangout there for hours. The staff is friendly, they serve good food and the price is more than fair. I live 40min away, yet I somehow became a regular.

Today was an exhilarating day. Sitting down at Al’s and enjoying a nice bountiful breakfast was the greatest start to my day would recommend to anyone near by

This is my favourite breakfast place with the hubby or when my daughter comes to visit from Toronto. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. The home fries have a really nice flavour and are always crispy and piping hot. This is important to me.:) I’m hoping they are open tomorrow even though it’s a holiday.

Love this restaurant! Everything is delicious and affordable while hitting the "diner" food itch. The staff is always very nice and we can see that many locals come by for their cup of coffee. My partner and I looking to become regulars at this spot.

We had breakfast while there and it was perfect.

The food was good but the male server was unacceptably rude with us. To loudly ask my friend "what is the magic word? " when she was simply requesting to have creamers with the coffee is inappropriate. If you don't like your job, get another one. If you tolerate that kind of behaviour, well, good luck!

I really like this place but the last take out breakfast was quiet disappointing. Their home fries weren't seasoned like they normally are and the portion was very small. I hope it won't be the same next time.

Trucker breakfast is always a good, meaty and delicious meal.

Forgot to mention, probably the best breakfast sausage I've ordered from a restaurant!

Excellent diner breakfast just as you'd want. Good portions, fast friendly service and great laid back atmosphere. I've also ordered pick up a few times and it is always correct and so quick we often order on the way and by the time we get there it's ready. Plus we appreciate that you can order on their website and not have to use a 3rd party app.

Good is good and reasonably priced. I mostly have breakfast here, but I have tried the lunch specials from time to time. The staff are great.

We dined inside 21/10. Contrary to restaurant claims that all are checked at the door but could have been missed if they were busy. It was not at all busy. Only 3 customers sitting at only two tables near to each other is not busy.
No passport requested or mentioned at all. Male restaurant staffer (?) sat at the bar all the time we were there. He wore no mask at all. I think he is the owner or maybe the manager. Seen him there many times when we'd been there precovid.
Dead quiet. Two tables. Waitress not over worked due to full house. Not true. Better would be to admit not taking appropriate verification action and committing to improving practice than make up excuses and untruths. Rather than report Al's Diner to the authorities, I chose to recount our experience and to provide opportunity to do better. Sadly, you obfuscated.
No verification of whether we were vaccinated at all. Same for other patrons. People next to us may not have had any vaccinations. I will never know because you took no information who were were or tel to reach us if tracing pointed to this date and time. You showed no concern for your patrons or for your staff! Please get your act together. Your conduct was an illegal violation of your obligation. You put our health and safety at risk. People unmask when they eat, right? ! That's when covid is spread indoors. Your food is great but your respect and care for your clients is lousy. I'd give you no stars if that was possible despite your food being great.

I used to go Al’s Diner every week because it’s reasonable food however Last week I went to eat with my wife & I saw few cockroaches! Oh my god! My wife almost died! So I ask the owner about what we saw! The owner told us he didn’t see cockroach so he can’t do anything about it! I will never ever ever go to this restaurant!

Went this morning for a nice quick breakfast. The meal was delicious, and our server, Dan was polite, attentive, and engaging. Give that man a raise!

The food is always incredible, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is the cherry on top of an incredible overall experience.

Will definitely be back again!

This is the only place I would recommend anyone have breakfast. Excellent service excellent price and your meal is not small.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Food was great, so was the service. We will definitely be coming back, at least to try the pizza which we've heard great things about!

Went to Al's with a friend for breakfast. The food was decent, no complaints there. The coffee was good. But the service. We had a nice fellow at first, but after, my friend and I chatted for a bit while we finished our coffee. Maybe ten minutes later a waitress came over and told us that we had to leave because they were going to be busy soon. There were plenty of tables available, and even the patio was empty. I've never been asked to leave a restaurant before, and I can assure you, I won't because I won't be going back to this establishment. Shame, because I did like their potatoes.

*Update- I spoke with Al and he was very kind and accommodating. I'll be fair and re-rate from 2 to 4 stars.

Honestly, the best place. It's humble and the service is excellent. Food is exactly what is says it is. Not not trying to be anything it's not just good homey affordable chill place to call "your spot".

My family loves Al's. The servers are fantastic and always treat my kids with kindness and respect. The food is good-I have never been disappointed by their breakfast. Try a BLT with peameal, you won't be disappointed. Good pizza, as well. It's just a gem of a diner.

Great spot. I don't usually believe in ordering breakfast for take out, but given the lockdown, no other option.

Arrived home with 2 breakfasts for my girlfriend and I, everything was still as hot as it would have been if we ate in. Same great quality and they actually pay attention to special requests (there was no option online for sunny side up eggs, but I had requested it in the notes section) and they got it bang on! This may not be a huge factor to some, but there have been too many times with other restaurants where they basically skip through the extra notes section.

Well done Al's, can't wait to be back on your patio.

Al's Diner is our go-to Sunday morning breakfast spot. The servers are super friendly and they make you feel like a regular. Bring your appetite because the portions will fill you up.

I got the truckers breakfast with all sausage instead of bacon or ham. Our server looked and talked like Joan Cusack, so that was pretty cool.

Came to visit Ottawa, was looking for a different restaurant but stumbled in here. Great atmosphere, good food, good prices, quick service. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience.

Als is a great little neighbourhood diner that we like to visit for weekend breakfasts. Good food, friendly staff and atmosphere, and reasonable prices.

Great fish and chips and the waitress was very friendly and joking with the diners. A breath of fresh air.

Our Breakfast was so delicious.if your hungry please try the Truckers it's has alot of bacon eggs ham hash brown potatoes great coffee.but the friendly service was Awesome

Good breakfast. Good service. Aesthetics are old but the fair prices make up for it. I suggest coming in the early mornings rather than later in the day.

The food was okay, but nothing that I couldn't have made myself at home. The waitress we had was impatient and a bit harsh, so the service was disappointing. We came for the all-day breakfast, but their menu offered confusing options and it was difficult to get a plate with everything you actually expect to find in a modern breakfast (bacon, baked beans, pancakes, etc.). Nevertheless, if you need a quick bite in the area, it's sufficient just for that.

This restaurant has been here for a long time food is exceptional. Service is good so are the potions. They keep coming back. That says something about the place. Try it.

Just a plain, ordinary, working folks and familes diner with good food and friendly staff. (Amazing how wait staff can remember names and what guests usually order, even if months between visits!)

This is one of the fastest diner breakfasts that you can get in Ottawa. They have been serving breakfast for as long as I can remember. No nonsense, bacon and eggs and sausage and all the other stuff. Good home fries. Good service.

Only issue is no separate toaster for Gluten free toast. Can't eat it if it gets cross contaminated.

Go here and get their special. Price to quality and quantity ratio is off the charts. Most servers are great and if you want super fast service (lunch on a workday) sit on the bar side.
