Literally the weirdest experience and makes me wonder how a poorly managed restaurant like this still exists.

We went this morning with one table in the restaurant occupied and a rude lady (the owner? Her infamous rudeness has been talked about for years here) ran out and told us if we didn’t have reservations she would take 20 minutes to come out to even TALK TO US because of a huge order she has in the back kitchen. Why not just slap a “reservations only” sign outside? Why have a whole restaurant of empty tables and turn away the only customers?

Ummm, lady - how about you manage your time and run this place properly? This is the most bizarre restaurant experience ever. On top of that, the place reeked of mildew and neglict.

Avoid at all costs.

The BEST food I have tasted in Canada. Best Batata Vada, Veg Biryani.the list goes on and on.

Such a delicious meal! Ancila came out and determined what spice we tolerated and what meat/veggies we wanted, and made two delicious meat curries and a roasted eggplant dish. Attentive and fantastic - the beef Curry had the right amount of cardamom without being overwhelming, and the butter chicken was creamy and yummy! We will definitely be back.

Ancila is fantastic. Her food is to die for and she is such a gracious host. I could feel the personal touch in the food. It's not like other restaurants here where you just pick items off a menu. Ancila asks you want kind of meal you want and then makes the food that in her words "has to hit your pallet just right". And hit our pallet it did.

I am so glad I was able to visit before she closed for a few weeks but I will definitely be one of her first customers as soon as she is back.

P. S. Ancila's kitchen gives back to the community as well by feeding the homeless with nutritious meals prepared by her. Hoping more people support her effort as I would be doing as well.

When we called to make a reservation, Ancila told us that she was the only one working that night and it would be slow.

We were fine with it and showed up at the designated time. When we were seated, Ancila again reminded us that service would be slow. I appreciated that she was very honest with us upfront. Our friends who we were with said it was worth the wait.

Ancila selected a few dishes for us and they were all absolutely amazing. We had a fish dish, chicken, beef and veggie option, some curried, some dry.

All of it was amazing. My favourite was the okra. I would definitely be back and it was definitely worth the wait.

They say you need to call to reserve before you come. When we went it was completely empty with only one table taken. The lady said they prepare all the food after we order so if we want to wait we have to wait for 30 minutes. We ended up going to the Chinese restaurant next door.

Phenomenal food and phenomenal service. My partner and I decided to get some Indian food during a storm, when we got here it seemed like they were going to close early due to no foot traffic but the women who greeted us insisted that we sit and she will accommodate us. By far one of the best experiences we had at an Indian restaurant, she was polite and she catered to our spice levels and even gave us recommendation that we wouldn’t have chosen normally. We had the Pakora, Butter Chicken and Biryani with a side of garlic naan, all were delicious and full of flavour. The wait time seemed a little long between the meals but it was worth the wait cause everything was fresh. Definitely going to be one of the new go to spot for us

The attitude of the lady was rude. I went for the take out today and was suggesting them to hire more staff just as friendly but she said you are not regular customer. Such a disrespectful. Every customer is new and important but seems she don’t care. The food was average in taste.

What a rip off! Way overpriced for what they serve. When I opened the containers thought they were someone’s left overs! Got paneer tikka, kebabs and butter chicken. Served like 5 tiny pieces of paneer in a full serving! With giant pieces of green peppers and onions to make the dish look larger. None of the dishes had adequate amount of food compared to other Indian restaurants. Waste of money.

Amazing experience, delicious food, wonderful owner and staff. I love the concept that there is no menu. Ancila personally comes to your table to understand and discuss your spiciness preferences, vegetarian/non-vegetarian options, and preferred number of dishes and prepares an absolutely perfect meal.

I also love the social impact that this restaurant has, with a very strong focus on supporting the local (and not so local) community with donations and fundraising support.

Words are not sufficient to describe my experience working with Ancila while planning a get together at the restaurant. Extremely cooperative, accommodating person.
The food was awesome. Undoubtedly the batata vada took the first. Every other item we had was very tasty.
While discussion Ancila did mention whether we wanted a homely dish or restaurant flavor and we did a mix and match and it went perfect.
This is a hidden gem. Highly recommended, do give it a shot and you would not be disappointed

Still confused why it has 4.4 rating since it gave us experience of 2 star restaurant.
First they didn’t had anything ready in the menu, one lady came and told us that her paneer curry is famous and she insisted us to have that instead of our order. I asked for carrot halwa, her response take gulab jamun instead. So she was deciding for us what should we have

Loved the food. There is no menu and you just need to tell her what you’re in the mood for. Tried Goan Fish curry, Butter Chicken and Mix Veg Curry along with Garlic Naan and Rice. Will visit again.

Went here on a Sunday and the place was deserted and looked closed. I went in, and a chime sounded that I was there but no one came. I left disappointed because the reviews seemed great!

What a delight! Ancila is one special lady and “Mammas” cooking! Loved our experience there today! Was strange a first without a menu because she specializes your meal to your tastes! Definitely will become a regular!

We took butter Naan & Prantha along with butter chicken. I would not recommend this place. The breads didn't taste fresh at all, not a good experience.

We have ordered food from Ancila multiple times and has always been amazing. Yesterday ordered batata vadas from her as snack for our satyanarayan pooja and all guest enjoyed the mouth watering Wadas️

We tried the chicken takatak, Mutton Karai and Paneer tikka masala. All the three dishes were finger lickin good! Each had their own distinct and separable flavors which really made me indulge my taste buds in the particular dish.
Ancilla is a very warm and welcoming person! Really felt at home when I was at the restaurant.
I will definitely recommend Ancila's for those looking to submerge their tastebuds and senses into fine Indian food!

If I could give 10 stars for a review I would cause that's how much I want to rave about Ancila's food. Her meticulous care to make delicious Mangalorean food transports you to having a home cooked meal made by your mother or grandmother. She's very accommodating and can make items not on the traditional menu. If you miss classic Mangalorean food or craving Indian food in Indian you gotta stop by and indulge!

Stopped in for dinner and were happy to have the restaurant to ourselves. As anticipated based on previous reviews, we were questioned about our level of spice tolerance, preferred veg and non-veg choices, and then a delicious meal was proposed for us.
Our meal was a Goan coconut-based shrimp curry with lots of fresh curry leaves in it, a lamb curry that was full of tender pieces of meat, and a fried okra dish with onion and tomato. Even our kid who normally avoids onions and tomatoes loved it.
There was butter and garlic naan on the side and we also tried a delicious mango lassi. We said no to rice as we eat it a lot at home and one of us eats lower carb, but should have taken it too in order to better soak up the amazing sauces.
The food was amazing and obviously freshly prepared by the chef after our menu was selected. She really knows how to cook! The dishes complemented each other well, but were all different enough to make for an interesting meal.
Service was fast and friendly.
We had no idea what prices would be like there was no menu, but to give you a ballpark, we paid $73 including taxes for the above dishes.
We will definitely be back and will be spreading the word about this gem of a restaurant.

We sat down and there was no menu. The cook, who was like a happy mom, came out and asked what we would like. No we dont have menus. I am cooking for you.

So we discussed many options with the chef and made our choices. Lamb Korma, Coconut Curry Shrimp, and Chicken Tika and accouterments. Delicious!

The food was stupendous and best of all it felt like we were eating a home cooked meal made just for us. A feeling you never get in a restaurant

Over the years, we've mostly catered food from Ancilla's restaurant for family functions, the food quality and taste is absolutely amazing. I've always received compliments from my guests on the food and it's been the star of any function we've had. I would highly recommend Ancilla's to anyone looking for authentic Indian food, she also specializes in Mangalorean delicacy, so you may want to check them out as well.

In India we say that some people enhance the taste of the food simply with their touch, Ancilla is definitely one of them.

Ordered over the phone for pick up and the lady who I spoke with was super sweet. She made ordering easy and answered all of my questions about # of dishes to order.
We said we loved spicy food and she said 2 of our dishes weren't traditionally spicy but she would see what she could do when she made them!
Pick up was quick and easy - the food was done exactly when we asked for, we arrived 4 minutes early and she told us it would be ready at exactly 6pm - which was nice because we knew our food was as fresh as possible!
Seems to be a small family owned business - the same lady who took our phone order seemed to have made the food and brought it out to us.
Amazing quality - great taste - portion sizes were perfect - and the spice level on everything was perfect for us.
One of the best experiences for Take-Out that i've had since Covid started.

We ordered:
Beef Vindaloo - great rich tomato base flavour and a nice delayed lingering spice that wasn't over whelming and really tender beef.
Chicken Korma - really warm flavour with perfectly cooked chicken that was moist - added spice was noticeable but not too much and was a great pair with the spicier vindaloo.
Dal Makhani - great alternative to my usual go-to yellow dal tadka. Vegetarian but still hearty with a thicker / creamier consistency and great flavour.
All around a great experience from Ordering via phone - to pick up & pay - to getting it home and enjoying it.

Ordered chicken curry, butter chicken, nans, parathas, mango lassi. Lady on phone was courteous. She asked about our custom spice level for each dish. Food was very delicious. We picked up our order as restaurant didnt show up on any of the delivery apps. Will order again.

Very good! It's my wife's favorite Indian restaurant now. She loves the shrimp curry there and I am a big fan of the chicken tikka masala.

The owner is an amazing authentic chef. My wife and I were nearby and decided to order a few items. They turned out much better than any Indian we have ever had and she adjusted the spice levels perfectly since we are not as used to the spices.

Price was very reasonable as well.

Highly recommend and will be getting food for parties from here as well.

Delicious freshly made to order, home cooked authentic Indian cuisine. One of the best butter chickens we've ever eaten! Pakora's and garlic naan were very tasty too.
We paid $105 for: 2 butter chickens, chicken korma, chicken Takatak, 2 portions of pakoras, 3 garlic naan breads, and 3 rice. This was more than enough for 5 hungry people. A good amount of sauce and meat per dish. Absolutely delicious. Food is made fresh from scratch when you order, so expect to wait. Very friendly staff.
Only downside is that prices aren't listed, but it was a special occasion, so we didn't ask before ordering. We enjoyed this meal and will definitely be return customers.

We were nervous about the no menus but it was amazing to have a customized dinner that we co-created with the chef to ensure the flavours were balanced and the appropriate level of spice was included without sacrificing the wonderful flavours. You can always ask for the price too if this is a concern without the menu. Can’t wait to go back!

Instead of having a menu they make food that is personalized to what you feel like that day. It's a very unique dining experience. Make sure to book a reservation though as they make everything fresh!

My husband and I came here for dinner for the first time. We didn't really know what to expect. When we arrived, Ancila herself greeted us and like all the previous reviews, asked us our spice level, the type of protein that we wanted (meat/vegetarian) (chicken, lamb, beef, or shrimp) and whipped up a delicious meal for us. This will be our go-to place for Indian food from this point onwards!

Picture: Chicken dish, Lamb-spinach dish, white rice, butter naan bread, and garlic naan bread. If you like medium spice, then level 5 spice is for you. We preferred the butter naan over the garlic, since the garlic naan had quite a bit of garlic. It was still good, but we preferred the more subtle flavour. The amount of food can comfortably feed 3 people. We almost finished our food, but had overeaten past our comfort zone. Price for these dishes was $57 + tax/tip - well worth the price.

Much praise to Ancila's quality of food and hospitality. You can tell that she really cares about the food that she produces.

Heads up: It is best to call in and reserve your seat/take-out. She will ask for your food preferences and then prepare the food in advance for you so that you aren't left waiting around.

Me and my sister walked in just knowing we were eating Indian cuisine. No menus.no problem! The resteraunt owner/chef came and asked us what kind of meat, spice level, tastes we like and she MADE A MEAL FROM SCRATCH just for us! And it was beautiful! Me and my sister have never experienced anything like this before and it blew us away! Such a cool spot for couples or a family date. I will definitely be returning whenever I return to Mississauga, esp when we were catered to so well! Thank you again! (PS, if I could give it 10 stars I would!)

Best Indian restaurant in Mississauga, heck even in toronto! Ancila provides an intimate setting with some of the best Indian food I've ever tasted. She cooks all the food herself so quality is 100%

My kids love it.freshly made to order and our taste. Definitely try tandoori roti with butter chicken. Yum! Unfortunately it’s too far from us, but we find excuse to make an hour drive ;)

Ancila's butter chicken would most definitely be my last meal. She is an absolute angel of a woman, and her cooking skills are out of this world. You walk in, tell her your spice level, what flavours you like, and she whips up an INCREDIBLE meal. I've travelled to many parts of the world and eaten at highly rated very expensive Indian restaurants and have never had better Indian food in my life than at Ancila's. Seriously, make reservations - order ahead of time - do what you have to do. But you wont be disappointed. The food is made fresh on the spot and I've never had anything like it!

Food is reasonable but the service is lacking. From the long wait to the lack of prices on the menu to the presence of a tiny stone in one of our dishes. I would go elsewhere if you are looking to have an enjoyable meal in a reasonable amount of time. This establishment doesn't operate like a usual restaurant but more like a casual home kitchen, which results in mediocre service.

We came here after shopping at the premium outlet. Just like the other reviewer, if we could rate this place more than 5 stars we would. There was no menu, the owner (I think) came to our table to ask for our protein, spiciness, and flavour preferences, and they cooked our meal accordingly. We had chicken masala, lamb curry, roasted eggplant, rice, and a lot of naan. Food and service were all excellent, and the price was very reasonable. We were sad to leave! We will definitely come back.

Really tasty food, I tried takka tak chicken which was different but one of the best I have ever tried and the chef was great too came to the table and asked specifically the kind of taste and flavors I like. Cant recommend enough.

The best ladyfinger preparation ever! So tasty. Mutton made Malwani style was tasty and meat cooked just right. Unpretentious, down to earth place that must be tried out if u want an authentic taste of home. Keep up the quality Ancilla.

Terrible customer service, I would not recommended going here. I walked in not knowing that they only took reservations they could’ve just informed me and I would have understood. Instead, one of the employees was extremely rude and unprofessional. Don’t go here, save yourself from the onslaught of rudeness! Ancila’s y’all need to relax, your restaurant is on Millcreek not downtown Toronto.

Worst experience, order veg biriyani & chilli paneer as take out at 8: 38pm and the reception person is forcing me to cancel the order as it’s close to their closing time. He was saying like it will take atleast 45Min and I don’t know you can wait like that. This place was pretty empty and no customer at the moment, bad experience as I was on my way to London and just stop for grab the food as I saw it online.

No more do I have to experiment with all the mediocrity in Mississauga now that at least my Indian food bucket has been satisfied. Other restaurants of the non-corporate variety could learn a thing or 3 from Ancila and the love that you can actually taste in her food. No need for a menu here. She herself comes to the table to ask about your tastes and then suggests your meal for you. No need to worry it will be awesome. This is the kind of place I strive to find no matter where I am in the world but for a place so starved for restaurateurs that put love in their food you no longer need to gamble with your Indian food hankering. Ancila thank you for the wonderful meal, never change and and keep doing what you are doing.

This restaurant was an amazing experience. The chef came to our table to understand what we enjoyed and gave suggestions based on that. The owners went out of their way to make our dinner enjoyable. The food is absolutely worth the wait and the experience is really great. They were true to their spice scale (0-10). They encouraged us to call ahead next time if we didn't want to wait as long, but I sincerely enjoyed the time spent. Very reasonably priced for excellent quality of food. I will absolutely recommend this place to anyone, and will be back.

We went yesterday for dinner with my family, the food was not all fresh as Owner told us that she prepare fresh food but it was not, the chicken curry was not at all tasty as like Indian taste. In curry there was big slices of tomato it tasted really pathetic. I had a Stomach upset and twice motion.
Please don't go by reviews its really fake.

CALL AHEAD. I should really give 4 stars, because it is very understaffed so service is slow, but the food was incredible, and I was really impressed by the woman running the restaurant, who appears to be doing it alone. I definitely recommend, just call ahead and make your order.

No menu at restaurant. Even though food is cooked fresh by staff I didn't like the same. They served chicken gravy with raw oninions and garlic on it without asking customer whether they like it or not

Food is really tasty. The owner tries to adapt flavours to your preference. Very friendly. Only downside is the waiting time. If you're willing to wait a while it's worth it. Don't go if you only have an hour to spare.

The best authentic Indian food in town. Tried it today for the first time. We made reservations before going and ordered our food over the phone. I recommend doing the same if you want to avoid waiting for very long. There is no set menu. Great food takes time to prepare, so you need to be patient. We had daal makhani, malai kofta and chicken tikka masala. All food was out of this world and very fresh. The mango lassi was delicious as well. Highly recommended this place for good Indian food. Ancila is very passionate about food and will make excellent recommendations according to your taste and spice preferences.

Ancilla's is a great place to eat. She is kind and accommodating, the food is wonderful, and she accommodates those with food allergies.

The food at this restaurant was truly unbelievable. The feel of home cooked authentic Indian food with restaurant quality flavors. Best of all, out of the chicken curry, lamb curry and palak paneer NOTHING floated in a sea of oil like many other places. Hats off to Ancila and her team. Will definitely come again even if you need to order in advance and make reservations.
