Awesome place to visit if you enjoy art. A wide variety of different styles of art across the years as well as new ever changing special exhibits ensures there is always something to see.
If you are going on Wednesday (when entry is free) please keep in mind you have to book your tickets online and generally there is a bit of a wait to get in. Most other weekdays there is little to no lines and you can pop right in.

Free if you’re under 25! Also this is a surprisingly stellar gallery, the variety, quality and layout all impressed!

This is a multiple trip site. Excellent displays

Line was long due to Covid screening.

A fantastic museum with a wonderful variety of featured exhibitions and galleries. A must see attraction for anyone with an interest in the arts.

I like museum.
AGO is one of kind. The exhibition are always well explained and we can take the time to enjoy all of it.
I love to see the group of seven. Also, unique piece of arts that we can't see anywhere else. Spending a day at AGO is like stopping the time.
We always leave transformed, like if time flies in another dimension.
The pass is inexpensive so we go very often.
You will love it

Beautiful art gallery exhibit housing work from group of seven, Picasso and many other artists. I particularly enjoying the Picasso exhibit about the blue period it was very interesting and well done. It’s also a gorgeous venue for events such as weddings. They offer coat check and there is a gift shop and bistro.

Always a nice visit to the AGO. A little more space would be nice for the special exhibits. People still crowd, even during a pandemic.
28 December 2021 15:14
Over the course of many years, a membership which permitted an accompanied person or two separate ones were purchased. The cost is so reasonable. One is gifted to someone special who has always been culturally inclined and multi-talented in the performing arts.

The feeling of privilege ensues as we leisurely enjoy a sumptuous lunch at the Norma Ridley Member's Lounge. My favourite table faces the park. The CN Tower is precisely in the middle of our view.

The assorted offerings and service are outstanding. One could sit on one of the multitudinous comfortable seating places including a chesterfield while savouring a specialty coffee or loose leaf tea and relax whilst hidden away from the maddening hustle and bustle. Fine priceless art adorn the walls. One never feels rushed. What a great atmosphere!

Also many excellent dining experiences are available at the main dining room called Frank's. It is so named due to the fact the Toronto-born, world famous, Frank Gehry is the visionary architect who is the amazing individual whose incredible ideations and unique perspectives including the asymmetrical spiraling wooden staircase brought so many new visitors to the Art Gallery of Ontario.

After all this being recited, it is the start to our wonderful viewing of special exhibits or wandering from one gallery to another.

A stop at the gift shop is de rigeur. All is throughly pleasurable. Worldwide tourists come to visit our reknown light-filled cultural institution.

As it is in our very own backyard, it is a destination one must include in our 2020 calendars. Experience the best works of varied art forms inclusive of many eras. You will be thrilled to have done so.

If you have already attended, another visit is sure to please.

Go on the evening that there is free admission. I don't remember the day but it will say on the website. I enjoyed it but it was nothing earth shattering. Go when it's free:)
11 December 2021 9:11

Nice art collection but the signage could be better. Larger than it looks from the outside. Also a nice view over the city from the funky staircase.
05 December 2021 16:49
Loved it. There were lines to ensure infection control measures were enforced which was reassuring. Not over crowded and art exhibits were enjoyable and nice to view.
05 December 2021 11:21
Spent a couple of hours and wandered from floor to floor, seeing many different genres of art. I even went to the basement level to check out the pretty amazing collection of model ships and boats. Was able to take a lunch break outside of the gallery and get back in again with no hassle to continue the experience. It was busy, probably due to the Picasso exhibit, but staff checked vaccines docs quickly and efficiently and everyone was so friendly.
If you plan to visit more than once within a year's time it's worth it to buy the $35 membership which allows you free entry to general exhibit after purchase.
04 December 2021 6:23
Picasso was great. Congratulations. Warhol was fantastic and well curated. Congratulations.

Thank you to AGO.

Society is hungry for art because. Pls go on we expect more as Torontonians.

I love the AGO! I’ve been to a couple of exhibits and all of them have been very cool and interesting. Most recently, I’ve been to the Picasso exhibition. I loved it. The only thing was that it was a bit crowded for my taste for a museum. I also went on a Friday morning so I would recommend checking out the exhibits on a less busy day if you like to leisurely walk around the exhibit. Although it was a bit crowded, I still enjoyed the art.

Beautiful and calm place. Loved the paintings so much. Wednesday is free from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm, but ticket must be purchased earlier online from their site.
19 October 2021 13:46
A good museum, with a broad range of art in the permanent collection. The range of medieval/Renaissance European art is limited (much less than in Montreal’s art museum), but there is a large coverage of contemporary art. Plenty of coverage of First Nation art as well, even if they are sometimes randomly placed within other sections.
Highlight was certainly the Andy Warhol exhibition - a very good coverage of his life and main works, and highly recommend getting the audio guide (accessible on the AGO website).

The Art Gallery of Ontario is an art museum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The museum is located in the Grange Park neighbourhood of downtown Toronto, on Dundas Street West between McCaul and Beverley streets.
17 October 2021 2:02
The are gallery is nice. Make sure you go when your artist's work are in display only. Otherwise, it can be confusing. Not many staff there to direct you. The ROM is much, much better. Especially, if you are bringing kids with you.
25 September 2021 2:42
Fantastic art center. By the time I visit Andy Warhol exhibition was there. The curation and end-to-end visitor guides were pretty on the spot. The best side is AGO is their oen visitor shop, very cool stuff are out there.
12 September 2021 1:20
J'adore ce musée, l'architecture du lieu et les œuvres exposées. Cette fois, on a vu Warhol, une belle mise en valeur de cet artiste
07 September 2021 22:03
Comprehensive and excellent Andy Warhol show. History abounds. Kent Monkman works also excellent in the classical sense, such mastery.
01 September 2021 9:56
Saw the Warhol exhibit and the Canadian gallery on the second floor which included works by the Group of Seven. If you're going to a special exhibit, try to go on a weekday when it's less busy. I went on a Friday night and found I was dancing around people a little bit.

Always been a huge fan of The Art Gallery of Ontario ever since I was lil. Been there when they Had the Van Gogh Exibit and for many other exibits over the years & any true lover of art such as myself among many others will tell you this 1 of the best art galleries to goto among others. You wnt be disappointed. I wld highly recommend it to anyone whether you live here or are from out of town. Must see for any art lover‍‍
23 August 2021 7:50
Love the AGO. Went to see the Warhol exhibit. They had a ton of great pieces and very useful descriptive blurbs along the way!
21 August 2021 20:54
Great building, great Andy Warhol show. It's always a pleasure to wander through the beautiful art in the beautiful environment.
11 March 2021 23:12
Nice museum. There is a lot of variety and great exhibitions. I was impressed by the paintings. I don't know much about art, but I liked everything)
01 March 2021 5:09
I had a wonderful time here! The exhibits were great and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
15 February 2021 22:37
Love the AGO! Well-appointed space and beautiful collections. A lovely spot to spend an afternoon. A must-see for those who appreciate cultured spots in Toronto.
05 February 2021 18:12
This gallery is huge with many styles of art. Unless you rush through the whole gallery, which would be a waste, you cannot see it all in one day. We focused on Canadian art and a couple other sections and still spent hours, which was tiring. I recommend taking your time and limiting yourself to two hours. If you want to see more get an annual pass.
05 February 2021 7:00
I had never been to AGO before, and it was a great visit. Went through the entire gallery in a day, but two days would be needed to go through the gallery thoroughly. The works are well displayed and the lighting setups help to accentuate them. The guides were very helpful in explaining facts about the art. There is a wide variety of artifacts, including spell books! I’m looking forward to my next visit.
02 February 2021 21:51
It is a beautiful Art gallery that is amazing to go to after work to destress or on Sunday mid day or evening. There are some nice resturanrs close by and it is in the heart of Toronto. Inside there is a resturant and a neat cafe. The exibits are fun and represent Canada.
04 March 2019 7:11
10/10 would go again. Feel the gravity of how much pain and trauma the First Nations have gone through and how their art, already so powerful in expressing that hurt, is still nothing and absolutely inadequate for helping people truly realize the stories that are there.
22 February 2019 22:42
Always a great place to spend and afternoon or evening. Special exhibitions are a major plus. Gift shop has an interesting selection but a bit pricey.
21 February 2019 4:31
I liked Ottawa nationsl art gallery better than Ago. The collection at Ago is generally adorable. However it is no match for national art gallery in Ottawa.
10 February 2019 14:55
Lovely place to spend a morning, afternoon or evening. Wednesday nights are free from 6: 30 to close-you can buy a ticket to the special exhibit at this time. If you're interested in seeing a film, make sure to check out the Tiff lightbox schedule. There are two cafes in the AGO-one on the basement level and one on the first floor. There is a restaurant in the building but it is a bit pricey. For cheaper food nearby check out the Grange food court across from the AGO on Dundas and McCaul. They have a library in the basement if you need some more quiet time, as well as a child playcentre. If you have a larger bag and coat, you can check your coat for free if it fits in your bag!
08 February 2019 4:40
Super expérience! Collections diversifiées, il en a pour tous les goûts.
Les employés bénévoles sont super intéressants et sympathiques. Ne manquez pas les tours guidés, ça vaut le détour:)!
Bref, un des meilleurs musées que j’ai visité!
07 February 2019 12:58
Outstanding artwork. Most bizarre, super politicized commentary. Why not describe the artwork, rather than make a political rant? The commentary for almost every piece was laughable. Who writes these jeremiad screeds? Someday, someone will do a study of the commentaries. The cognitive dissonance between the art and the commentary is palpable.
01 February 2019 19:08
An excellent art gallery made sublime by special exhibit as the photo and interactive display from the Anthropocene project, if you missed the movie, and even if you did not, this pictures and some of the explanations missing from the movie make for a well worth couple of hours visit
27 January 2019 18:01
There are masterpieces here, to be sure, but the gallery seems to fall short. The gallery lacks in the breadth of of its collection on display when the size of the place is considered. The presentation could be better.
27 January 2019 13:17
It's a wonderful place outdoors. The atmosphere is quiet and serene, what I liked the most is the comfortable chairs. There are memberships at reasonable prices. Highly recommended for art lovers.
26 January 2019 16:50
Membership is affordable and totally worthwhile once you factor in just a couple of visits. Great activities, especially come winter time when there is less to do outside.
13 January 2019 7:28
Wouldn't suggest going on a Thursday during the day given most schools go on that days. But anthropocene was incredible and I urge everyone to go see it.
29 December 2018 6:44
Anthropocene exhibit was incredible. Thoughtful and fun experience of sore subjects beautifully presented. Spent so long here only had time to revisit Group of 7 works which are always evocative. The gallery is a cool place to hang out too with unusual architectural details and coffee and food available. Wish I could go more often
27 December 2018 5:58
Constantly has new art year-round. Went to go see Anthropocene. Staff were very helpful. They even went to the extent to personally show myself and some friends where every single related Egyptian piece was inside all of the AGO.
22 December 2018 4:28
The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is a huge art gallery hosting priceless pieces of art including but not limited to the works of Alberto Giacometti, Lorenzo Bernini and Van Dyck. The staff is very helpful and there is a small coffee shop on the second floor. The ground floor hosts a collection of ship models which is also pretty fascinating. Overall, I will definitely recommend the AGO for a soul trying to get a taste of world culture
17 December 2018 14:09
This Art Gallery is a gem in Toronto. I had the pleasure (and permission) of doing a dance photoshoot there, and the staff, security, and general manager is extremely professional, courteous, and kind. They have pretty tight security there - which I was grateful for - and you have to check in your coats, bags, etc.before you head into the gallery. The Galleria Italia is a breathtakingly beautiful space, and the art work inside that building is just stunning. Highly recommend for a casual or relaxed visit for family/friends or a first date ;)
11 December 2018 13:42
Nice museum. If you like arts, it's worth visiting. I really liked the gift shop too.

Personally, going on a official tour for 30-40 mins was enough to look around everything, though. The official tours are at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, and so on. I think they start every hour from 11am to 3pm. Once you pass the ticket check point, you'll see a huge open place in front of you and that's where it starts. Tours lasts 30 to 45 mins and it's FREE.

It's good to visit since it's right next to China Town. I recommend visiting AGO and then heading to China Town for lunch or dinner. Or vice versa.
05 December 2018 23:36
The AGO has been a great place to view contemporary and classic art pieces. The team works endlessly to present exhibitions in the best way possible to ensure that guests have a pleasant experience.

The permanent exhibit has plenty to see, and the structure of the floors allow for much exploration. I really appreciate the Indigenous language captions along with the English and French captions for some of the pieces in the permanent gallery.

Go on Wednesday night to see it for free, but expect lots of people as it is a popular Wednesday night activity in Toronto. Make sure to keep up to date with the special exhibitions as they change seasonally! And sneak over to the stairs at the back of the AGO inbetween the 4th and 5th floors for a lovely view of the city of Toronto

Anthropocene: An exhibit that should be shown to all that takes earth's resources for granted. This collection should make everyone an activist. Truly a remarkable exhibit with a scary message. Loved the artists' work. But did not love the arrangement of work. The flow of exhibit was not smooth. The exhibit labels on the floor were very hard to read; the type and paper had little contrast for the lighting. I wish the relatively universal size of wall texts can be changed to something larger.
