I used to love their northern Chinese noodle, pastry, & xiao long Bao (soup dumplings) so much many years ago; but the quality seems lack of consistency among different locations. They focus too much in catering those new Chinese immigrants' taste buds than old Torontonians, and the end up not improving the flavor of the basic delicacy that made them popular in the past. Looking for better food experience of our next visit.
Very disappointed with this particular Asian Legend location. Attended a family celebration with over 30 people and we had a private room with three tables. It was a set menu and the food was pretty decent except for the extra unwanted ingredient (earwig) found by another guest.
The tea cup that my daughter had was damaged and if she had drank from the damaged edge, she could have easily cut her lips. I refrained from calling the waiter as this was a celebratory dinner so I didn't want to cause any unwanted attention and just placed the cup aside.
Dinner Menu card showed we were having steamed bass which I was looking forward to but unfortunately, the bass was replaced by a much cheaper Tilapia.
Food itself was pretty decent but the fish switcheroo is ridiculous as a bass is far more expensive than a tilapia and trust me, I know a bass when I see one.
Servers were not bad but when I was leaving, all the female servers were standing around in front of our room playing with their phones which was pretty unprofessional. However.it may be because they were working overtime as this location closes at 8: 30pm.yep. 8: 30pm!
Upside to this place is no wait lines lol.there was practically no one eating at this place when I arrived at 5pm!
The food here wasn't bad but our overall experience was so bad that I would never revisit this location again. The Asian Legend on Sheppard and Brimley is by far the better place to visit as it is always busy but well worth the wait for a pleasant dinner experience.
TLDR; Our food had an earwig cooked into it AND they tried to pass off a cheap white fish for the bass that we ordered and tried to tell us nobody would notice the difference.
My family had an intimate reception at this Asian legend, we rented the back room and ordered the set meal.
In the first course of the 10 course meal, a younger family member found a whole earwig in the dish. It was the size of my nail and it was mixed in with the appetizer. Everyone was grossed out but, trying our best to enjoy the occasion, we carried on. A few courses later we sprung for the bass (as listed in the menu). When the fish came out, some of our more knowledgeable family members started to notice that it definitely wasn’t bass, and instead it was tilapia. We brought it to the managers attention and he had nothing to say and refused to do anything about it.
Finally the meal was over and as the servers were rushing us out we went to discuss the issues that had arisen over the course of the dinner. They made my cousin (whose wedding reception it was) cry and refused to find some sort of solution. My cousin paid over $1600 for the meal.
DO NOT eat here unless you’re wondering what earwigs taste like.
The meals are delicious and the service is even better. I believe that guy is the manager there who is polite and caring thank you for all his suggestions I really enjoy it.
During our meal we noticed the server at one of the big round tables clearing the table and wiped the the lazy Susan with the dirty table cloth and the tea from the table. Clean procedures need to be improved. If the staff are cleaning the lazy Susan’s with dirty table clothes just think how everything else is being cleaned
The complimentary dessert was "coming", until they realized we were entertaining a guest. Then they decided there was no complimentary dessert and wanted us to order dessert. This used to be a favourite for big family events. Won't be back.
Dined here on a whim for a Saturday night dinner. We opted for the Beef and Onion fried pancake, pork buns, the Shanghai noodle in soup with pork and shrimp and the Noodles with minced pork in peking sauce.
The latter two dishes were not up to par. The meat portions in the Peking dish were cut with tofu and the pork/shrimp dish was flavourless with not many vegetables. We waited quite a while for seating as well though food came relatively quickly. I would probably order a different dish next time if we come back.
Soup dumplings and beef noodle soup are very good! The green onion pancakes and beef wraps are sweet and savoury. Quick, efficient service. A staple for us when we are in this part of town.
Beware - do not order online. First, the website is confusing and keeps requiring you to reset your password if you want to set up an account. Second, there is no guarantee that this location will receive your order. On arrival for pick-up, despite having an actual order number, they had no record of receiving, and therefore had to wait for the order to be started from that point. Their only honest explanation was that it is best to phone. Aside from the inconvenience/customer service issue, it is probably hurting sales if take-out is important at all to their business model.
This location has gone downhill. Soup dumplings were not soupy and thick skinned. Rest of the dishes were bland, not even going to lost them as didn't find anything good.
We waited for a table way too long. I had to ask my wife to ask for a hostess. Also, one of our friends asked the waitress to make her meal less spicy, and the waitress told her to write it down (poor customer service). Food was good. More than likely won't return due to customer relations. The 2 star rating is because the food was good.
Really nice atmosphere with great tasting food. I feel like having some as I write this review. Service is good, it's a MUST if you love good Chinese food.
I celebrated my PhD earlier this evening in this delicious restaurant.happy to tell that we passed a magnificent evening and the place was indeed the reason for this fruitful meeting. The waiters cooperated in a splendid style, the food was very good and my buddies were so cheerful. We shall definitely come back again for more joyful events. Thank you very much.
The food there has always been consistently good, no complaints. That's why I gave it a three.
The service during this pandemic is surprisingly bad, though. No online ordering from Don Mills, no one answered the phone when we tried multiple times, so we had to drive over. Half the time, there was no one at the front as they were running to the back constantly. It took awhile to give them our order as we waited for staff. There was a dozen people waiting there, either in line or for food, and we'll have to wait a half hour to pick-up.
Love your food, folks, but get your act together during this wacky time.
Absolutely horrible customer service and terrible food.
We ordered Peking duck and upon returning home, we noticed that the pancake wrappers (that differentiate peking duck from just regular roasted duck from a BBQ shop) were not included. When calling the restaurant, they told me it must be my mistake that I don't see the wrappers (? !? !). They then said they could not deliver the missing part of the dish and would not partially refund us. The best they could do is give us a free fried rice next time.
To give context, Peking duck costs $50 (with lettuce wrap) and a fried rice not only costs much less (~$10) but would require us to order again from the restaurant that had already treated us as though we made the mistake. The manager that I spoke with said that he didn't care about the lack of customer service and did want to lose money on another duck.
Not only is the customer service horrendous, the food was actually disgusting. This photo of the sweet and sour pork shows that it was soggy, gloopy and worse than a food court rendition.
As a Chinese person, I am mortified when Chinese owners care more about the bottom line than customer retention. I will not be returning. Ever.
This is the few Chinese restaurants I visit. This place provides a great vibe especially at night. The food there is decent with the price and portions. Overall would recommend!
The food here was generally pretty good. I had the bok choi with enoki mushrooms which was great and the minced pork with noodles. The noodles were good but there are better options out there if you're into hand pulled noodles. So great choice for northern Chinese food in general and prices are fair ($12-20 for each dish) for quite alot of food. The ambiance is also nice, well decorated! Worth a visit if you're out this way.
The place looks really nice. Got seated quick and the food came out in a timely manner. However it was a nightmare to get any service, we didn't get any tea when seated (the table next to us did). Our table seemed to have a button system (which we tried to use since our server never came by? Did we even have a server?) Asked for water which never came, partner kept trying to wave employees down who just kept on walking. I don't know, the food was alright. But the service was absolutely wild. It struck me as rude, but honestly everyone seemed really put out. Maybe it was busier than I was able to see from where we were sitting, but honestly checking in with a table without prompting really goes a long way.
Honestly if I had behaved and ignored tables like that when I worked food service I would have been fired so fast. Love going to Oomomo but I'm not coming back here.
We ordered takeout as it was a Christmas Eve evening and there were a lot of people dining out. We ordered the food on the phone. The food was ready to pick up when we arrived to the restaurant. The dishes were very good. We were happy with the service.
We've been coming to this location since they first opened and have always been greeted very nicely by the servers and managers. We went again recently and had the worst experience with the new manager, Sam. We accidentally wrote down the wrong item number that we wanted and when he came by with the dish, we told him that we didn't order that. He rudely left and came back with our order sheet, "See, yes you did. You ordered x. Do you want me to show you the menu? ". Any other food service location would have said, "hey yeah, I can put in an order of the right thing instead". But this manager didn't. When we asked if we could exchange, he actually told us no! He basically wouldn't leave our table until we accepted the dish that we didn't want. Don't know how he got a manager position with his terrible attitude and rude tone. The rest of the servers and waiters at this location are excellent and super friendly though. Shame that they have such a terrible manager.
I’ve heard of this restaurant for a while and today found it nearby, so had a try. The food was OK, but the overall poor service made my lunch experience unpleasant. Perhaps won’t go there again.
Zhangcha duck is nothing but salty. They seems forget our order of the sticky rice ball in rice wine soup. It took very long to get that soup and all the sticky rice balls are not evenly cooked.the balls are tasted like just defrosted and the inside is not cooked at all.
Good food, nice decor, looks high end. The Xiao long bao was great, as well as the other food, just wish they had congee. Great selection of food, pages and pages! Bathrooms are nice too, individual ones with the sink and toilet in a room. One handicap accessible washroom as well.
Quality of food was 5 star but service was 2 star, can’t believe how disorganized the staff is. They forgot the first item on the list, even though we asked 4x where was our food. Then they finally admitted they forgot. It’s too bad it does not match the service at scarborough location. Had to request clean plates 2x, not living up to brand. Management needs to be reviewed.
I simply love their food. I always get fantastic service here. The place is always clean and the staff members are always very kind. Keep up the good work.
The quality of has gone down, servings are now smaller. I visit this location nearly every alternate day and I always tip them 15-20% for the last 5-6 years. Today I saw their behaviour, and decided not to tip them. I only had lunch special costing 8.98 plus tax. The counter guy told me I have to tip if I eat here. I explained its discretionary to tip, I was told to F.off. This behaviour is so bad and not acceptable.
Food was good except service is absolutely horrid. We paid by credit card but the tip was left in cash, our server who seemed bothered by us during our entire dining experience, quickly remarked "that's all your leaving me? " Extremely rude. Despite lousy service we left a generous tip left in cash but after their entitled attitude her 20% tip went down to 5%.
Love the food but the service can't keep up with the crowds. I was there for dinner the other day and some of the food took longer than normal to come out. We were constantly asking when a dish was coming. But the food is fantastic out of 7 dishes only one was subpar.
My go to restaurant on a Friday evening. Food is always fresh and if you have any issues, Frankie, the manager is always on standby to rectify it. My favourite meal is veg fried rice and shredded beef.
I have given it five chances in the past 12 months; there won’t be a 6th even if starving to death. Reasons: (1) food quality sucks (2) taste of dishes is very bad (3) staff service is always bad. This is the worst Chinese restaurant we have been to around the world.
Food was edible but nothing special. The price was high for the quality of the food. The service was slow. Lastly there was kids running around making noise and kids with electronics watching YouTube loud, very annoying.
I ate at different locations of Asian Legend before. I found that this chain always maintains certain standard of food quality. Highly recommended especially if you like Northern Chinese food.
Horrible food, the most disgusting Chinese food I've been tried. They gave us bad chicken, bad presentation of the food. Almost throw out the food. Why sell rotten food it's dangerous
Food is not bad and the price is acceptable. The worst part is something else though. Can someone imagine how you feel when you are asked very loud to give a 10% service tip once you paid the bill. I made the payment using my debit card and wanted to give a small cash tip before we leave the place. However once I made the payment with the debit card the waitress went to the cashier and soon after returned to our table. Then she very loudly shout on us saying that I need to give at least 10% tip. I was anyway about to give a smal tip before we leave. With this I was very uncomfortable as everyone started looking at us. Then I gave them more than 10% and left the place. I will not go there again. TIP is subject to onces discretion. It should not be demanded. They should have add this as a part of the bill as service charges to be professional.
Came here with a group of ten for dim sum on Mother's Day.
We ordered several plates/baskets each of: - soup filled dumplings with pork - Peking Duck - shrimp dumplings - pork potstickers - rolled onion pancake with beef - deep fried dough sticks - deep fried chicken wings
It's a bit of a hike from downtown but their soup dumplings and shrimp dumplings are solid, combined with good Peking Duck for 42 bucks and I'd say it's worth the trip.
Ordered hot & sour soup, peking duck 2-ways, spicy sauteed eggplant. Everything was fresh, traditional, and delicious. Way better than the one downtown.
Very poor service, very slow. You ask one of the sever for an extra bowl and she speaks to you in Chinese, when you say you don't understand Chinese she says something else and throws her hand up in the air and walks away. I guess it was beyond her pay grade. Food was not good either. Ordered a fish maw soup, and it was all broth. I will never come back to this location by choice. You ask for napkins at a table of 12 and they give you 4. Also we ordered 2 orders of the same fried rice the first one came out. But the second one took 25 minutes later and they were the same type of fried rice. Why not cook them at the same time and spilt the plated. Very disappointed. No not waste your money.
Was here for lunch. Ordered 1 appetizer, 1 soup, 1 rice dish and a noodle dish. Service was very slow, considering it wasn't even a full house. And to top it off, they got the type of noodle and the noodle dish wrong. The appetizer was over priced considering the product isn't made in house.
