It saddens me to write this review based on our experience with At Merithot Pet Resort. Where to begin.
Firstly, let me state, prior to this past summer, we never once experienced any problems with this business. We have taken our terrier here for grooming now for about 10 years, so you can be assured, they were a fantastic organization.

So; back in early June of this year, we had an appointment booked for grooming and it wasn’t until my son arrived that morning were we advised, they had canceled all grooming that day due to the groomer having a family emergency. Fair enough and certainly understandable. What was disappointing however, they had said they tried to call us in advance to advise they had to cancel, that was an utter lie! We received no such call whatsoever. My son was told, on our next visit however, he would receive a 50% discount on the grooming and today, was told no, 15% not 50%.

Naturally I was bewildered that particular day back in June when I arrived home to see the dog hadn’t been groomed and when I asked why, that was what my son relayed to me. Again; totally understandable however, we should have been notified before driving there to drop off our fur baby for his appointment.

In the days to follow, I had called and left a message to rebook the grooming appointment. No response. I called and left two additional voice messages, again, no response.

This past Tuesday, I called again and spoke to a young fella (I forget his name and wouldn’t disclose it here even if I hadn’t) but was advised, I could bring him in for grooming Friday. Not long afterwards, I received a call to change from Friday to Thursday for 8: 00 am. Perfect! In past, we have had to wait one, sometimes as much as three weeks for a grooming appointment but never gave it another thought.

Dropped him off today as scheduled. Discussed with the groomer as we did on the telephone earlier this week, he hadn’t been in now since (gulp), December - Shame on us. We typically have him groomed every 5-6 months, and that was the plan back in June, 6 months since his last grooming. Again, I can’t stress this enough, we have only attended grooming for the past 10 years here at At Merithot Pet Resort and had no reservations going anywhere but here.

The groomer (again I am not going to disclose names) had said he was quite matted and I’ll agree, it has been since late December since his last grooming but still, I didn’t think he was that matted and we could still brush him, which I did again last evening. I disclosed my displeasure at their failure to return any one of my three voice messages left to rebook his appointment, to which they apologized. I also disclosed he has a cyst on his back, which he has had for years and it never had been an issue when being groomed. Our vet was adamant, they would not remove the cyst surgically and for us never to puncture the cyst under any circumstances. Guess what happens today?

Prior to leaving, I also made comment to the groomer, not ever having an issue prior to, in all the years, with this location. I had asked if ownership had changed and was told no, apparently that was a lie. So having left our fur baby, I was told, given his matting (which again I don’t believe he was that matted), grooming could take a few hours, maybe as much as 4. “Oh, and our pricing has changed” (even though the pricing on the wall remained the same from years past) and being he’s a soft costed wheaten terrier, he’s a medium sized dog and the price is now $85 plus for extra $ due to his coat. (It was $60) Oh, and it’s not 50% off this session but 15% off.

So, very long story short, I picked him up not only to find a scared little dog, but one that was horrendously shaven. Like horrendous, I’m embarrassed for him, breaks my heart! In all the years, he’s a happy little guy when leaving the resort. He was happy arriving but not so when I picked him up. And that cyst, still bleeding.
Final bill; $130.00
Done, never ever again!

We have three dogs we take here regularly. Awesome staff and facilities. Everyone really goes the extra mile. Boarding, grooming, doggy daycare, & dogfood. Definitely recommend.

We've tried many other kennels and this is the only place our dog has not come home completely exhausted from the stress. Clearly he was well cared for. Thank you, Merithot!

At Merithot is a great place to daycare or board your fur baby. They take such good care of my dog and she loves to go there. They always go above and beyond for us and we appreciate everything they do! I would definitely recommend.

Very disappointed in our most recent experience.or rather the lack of.with At Merithot over the Easter weekend. When booking in person over a week beforehand, I specifically said it would be for Sat night of 'Easter weekend' and asked for grooming to be done as late as possible on Easter Sunday, with a bit later pickup time since we might not be back to get there by noon. She wrote it all in the schedule book and I was told they would try to make it work, that with a later drying time there wouldn't be any extra late pickup charges. On 3 different occasions in the two days before Easter weekend I spoke to someone there to confirm everything. There was a bit of confusion if the grooming could happen or not since someone had booked off unexpectedly, but they thought it would still be ok and were trying to reach the groomer to confirm.but no mention of any boarding problem. And again, even when he was dropped off by my husband Sat morning, nothing was said to him of any issues.
Half an hour later when dropping off his bed and food, suddenly I was told by the owner that I'd made the appt for the previous weekend, they had tried multiple times to reach me then, and he wasn't sure my dog could be accommodated now. Grooming would have to be done first thing Sunday and there would be extra charges if not picked up by noon.
The attitude I was presented with that it was entirely MY error, since "his staff wouldn't make thar kind of mistake", and the lack of good customer service to take any ownership whatsoever, even when i told him I had no missed calls or messages, and it was clear my bookings had been whited out in their schedule book. No attempt to rectify or work it out, not even an apology, and for the owner to basically insinuate I was the one lying has given me reason to give a one star review. The other staff were pleasant enough, and seemed to be fine with my dog, but I don't understand why no one else gave any indication of a mess up until i was confronted by the owner.
The end result was my taking him back, and having to find a last minute alternate facility for the night (which we luckily were able to) or being forced to cancel our trip.
Very unprofessional, and upon reading other reviews of interactions and issues since the change of ownership, many things seem unfortunately to be a recurring thing.
It's a very convenient location for us, and we thought we had lucked out finding an awesome place the first couple times he had been there before, but the last couple times since the ownership change I tried to take him, and he refused to go.so now after reading some of the other recent reviews, I have to even question why that is.
Sadly we won't be returning or recommending At Merithot at this point.

Our dog loves the place, and that tells us a lot about the management and how they treat their dogs.
At Merithot is our preferred kennel. And we know Flounder loves it there and is well cared for while we’re away.

Our dog attends daycare at Merithot and we are really happy with the service. As with any change in ownership, it is understandable to have some growing pains. Any concerns we did have were quickly resolved with great communication!

I used to swear by this place, but it is quickly going downhill.
They messed up our Christmas boarding booking, and canceled us last minute because “they forgot to add it”.
I wanted to pick my dog up at 3pm today instead of 4pm and was told it’ll cost me $30 to do so.
He came home completely stressed out, panting so hard. He was stressed being dropped off since his last stay, instead of running in happy we had to drag him in.
I do not trust my buddy is well taken care of and I will be moving my business elsewhere.

Update:
Used to be great, employees mislead about having intact males. The issue arises when I brought my dog in and asked multiple employees if there were intact males and I was told essentially "No, only dogs that are too young to be neutered". As you can see by the owner response this is not the case, fine but feels like it was an attempt to prevent me going elsewhere sooner. I'm extremely disappointed.

Owner breeds dogs which isn't necessarily bad, but my dog is scared of intact males and asked point blank to different employees and got different answers.

Oh and Ollie is not a nervous dog elsewhere. It could be the daycare it could be Ollie, but I've never had issues getting him to go anywhere not even the vets. I hope they take all the feedback and turn around their business, as of right now they have a lot of bad reports both word of mouth and online.

We will not be going back to this kennel again. We loved Karen and team and we had been there even before she took over.
The new owner ignores me to talk to his staff (as they seem to always have issues) or deal with his dog, unorganized and I find he is not friendly.
I had booked additional days of boarding and no one recorded it. Plus the day we left hadn’t been recorded properly. Put us in a bad spot. Did not make me feel good leaving my furry family there.
Also overcharged is on our bill for “cuddles” as well. Will not go back.

The owner, Kyle and his team are amazing! My Evie is a regular at the kennel, she can’t wait to get there, and comes home happy, clean and tired every single time! I drop her off with confidence twice a week, knowing my little girl is well taken care of by the knowledgeable and caring staff and management! At Merithot…10/10!

I used to love taking my dog here. She loved it. But something is totally off since Karen left. Took her today for a groom and not only did they destroy her tail (SAMOYED), she is totally not herself coming out of there. She’s traumatized. Won’t ever be back. He’s also turned the place into a retail store. Karen loved the animals. This man just wants money. Edit; their groomer also does not know how to groom properly. Totally destroyed my Samoyeds tail.

I have been taking my dog to Merithot since he was 1 (now almost 3) and have always felt they ensure he is well cared for. Even after moving 40 min from the kennel I continue to bring my dog (and now puppy as well) to Merithot as I trust them to care for my dogs as if they were their own.

I recently spoke with the owner and manager to provide feedback and was advised they are working on making some changes overall but all of my feedback was positively received and I feel like they really cared and listened to what I had to say, as well as taking the time to answer questions I had.

5/5 I will continue to choose marithot as my primary boarding location as long as there are spots available when I need them:)

My experience mirrors that of others who have posted to this site. The kennel used to be fantastic, but since the new owners took over it has gone downhill. I arrived to drop my dog off prior to a trip to Vancouver to learn that he was not booked for the duration of my holiday. This was not the first time that a scheduling error had occurred under the new regime. It NEVER happened under Karen’s management. I received no apology, nor did it appear that the young man who now runs the kennel cared. He instead blamed me. Reading other reviews, I can see that this behaviour appears to fit a pattern. He made no eye contact and was indifferent to my situation. I was left with no other choice but to cancel my trip home for Christmas. The former owner and staff were pleasant, efficient, and showed a genuine care for the animals. Those days are over. I will never return. To echo another post, ignore any review older than months.

We boarded with them for years, through three sets of owners. They used to be great when Karen owned the place. Now it sucks. Undertrained staff and an owner that argues with customers. Go elsewhere. Disregard any review older than a few months. Those days are gone.
