This is literally my favourite restaurant in the city and I will use any excuse to visit. Always amazing service, food and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I am honestly surprised by the negative reviews on here. I have dined here probably a dozen+ times and every single time it is nothing short of incredible. Everything is seasonal, locally sourced, fresh and beautifully plated. Being upset about the auto gratuity is actually mind blowing to me. If you don’t want to tip, or support fair wages for staff then you should cook your own food at home.

We had the 8 course tasting menu, it was absolutely delicious. Casual fine dining in a cute and cozy place. The cocktails are tasty and the food is exquisite.
21 November 2023 4:21
The 5 course dinner was delicious and the service was incredible. Considering the price …. The only reason I couldn’t give a 5 start was that the whole group left very hungry and we went right to another store for pizzas after. Some of the dishes could’ve been portioned larger. 3 star seems too harsh because it was a fun night

Amazing experience with the 8-course vegan menu. Each course was a delicious and original culinary surprise, the ambiance is very pleasant and the staff super friendly!

Came here for an anniversary dinner. The experience was phenomenal and if you ever wanted to convince someone vegan food can be mind bogglingly delicious - this is the place to bring them. Staff was wonderful and friendly and a special thanks to Serena for making the night amazing.

Great food, great COVID safety (dividers and air purifiers basically per table), super friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
I'm not a vegan but I still thought the food was excellent. Lots of less commonly used ingredients presented in clever, well balanced ways, and enough food that by the end of the evening you'll be very full. I'd heartily recommend this place to anyone who's enjoys good tasting menus, and doesn't like catching covid.

The creativity of the kitchen cannot be overstated. It takes a lot of effort and talent to elevate sometimes humble veggies into delicious dishes delivering new flavours. Really wonderful. Not free by any means but worth the spend. Plus the front of house staff, especially our delightful server, elevated the experience even more. Highly recommended!
13 April 2023 1:06
A perfect dining experience. The 8-course tasting menu was outrageously delicious and creative. From the first bite, our minds were blown and it just got better.
12 April 2023 10:49
They have a high chair for the little ones, staff were superb and the food was an enjoyable adventure. Cozy atmosphere, and for the non-vegans it’s an eye opener. Wish I was here for every season. Thank you for the beautiful meal.
06 April 2023 11:38
Absolutely brilliant! Loved the staff, the beautiful environment, and the food was incredible!
27 March 2023 7:51
Exceptional.unique, creative and most impressive degustation menu. Credit to the chef and the entire team who created such a wonderful experience all around. Thank-you!
25 March 2023 15:39
We decided to check out Avelo (despite not being vegan or even vegetarian) because of their focus on clean air. We weren't really sure what to expect, but figured at the very least it would be a new experience.

We have absolutely zero regrets about our decision. The food was delicious, the ambiance was beautiful, and the service was top-tier. We're from out of town, but we'll happily sing its praises to anyone we know passing through Toronto.

Seriously, eat here, even if plant-based is not your usual diet. We didn't regret the lack of animal products for a second.
18 March 2023 9:33
Wow what a meal, very creative, tasty and interesting. A story with every course. Huge bonus, its plant based. Hard to find pant based food with this level of creativity and totally deliciousness. If you are a meat eater stay away or the livestock farmers may go bankrupt if people find out plant based food can be so good.
16 March 2023 21:50
Had a lovely dinner here here - our table of 6 was the one of two on the whole floor. A key reason for choosing Avelo is not only to accommodate a friend who is vegan, but also those who truly care about air quality and trying to mitigate risks! The air flow and hepa by each table show a true caring for their patrons and dedication to a healthy society. My co2 monitor was below 700 the entire time there.

Now: the food was also delicious! The main drawback is that the amuse bouche courses are probably the absolute best but you really want more!

The sea-caviars, delicious potatoes, earthy truffles, belly warming soup…. Finished off with delicious desserts was excellent. The cauliflower croquette and Would definitely come again, and potato galette were by far my favourite!

I wish you could order more of some dishes for bigger eaters or to take out!

Especially the pistachio chocolate lollipop - I’d take a box of those home I’d i could.

Note that the restaurant is on a fairly quiet street and is easily missed as there is no large flashy sign outside so make sure you look it up ahead of time otherwise you’ll think it’s just another house in the row.
14 March 2023 20:04
Went for the 5-course tasting menu - what a delightful experience! Neither my roommate nor I are vegan, but we both enjoy eating plant-based and had a lovely time.

The food was inventive and delicious. Each dish was quite different, and although we had favourites, we enjoyed trying each one.

David, our server, was very friendly and attentive. He was very informative, and was clearly very passionate about the food and the service Avelo provides. David also suggested and mixed us great mocktails to match our dinner and our dessert courses.

If you’re looking for an upscale dining experience, especially as a vegan or someone who appreciates plant-based eating, this is your spot! We’ll definitely be coming back as the menu changes.
03 March 2023 14:23
We had a great experience at Avelo. Everything from the laidback atmosphere to the great service made the meal so enjoyable. We found the dishes all to be very relevant to the season and unique. We will definitely be returning in the future!
27 February 2023 1:51
David elevated the experience to another level, we will definitely be back and sharing this with everyone. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience. Kudos to the kitchen staff for all the hard work that goes into these meals. Truly amazing.
14 February 2023 20:47
The food was so good. The server was kind and explained every dish and answered all our questions. This is a wonderful place to go and splurge for a special occasion. Everything was delicious. They clearly care about food here.
26 January 2023 7:13
I am from Vancouver, BC where we have a plethora of vegan food, but this place was something like I have never experienced before. It was an incredibly special experience. The food was delicious, the plating was gorgeous and the ambiance was perfect down to every detail. Service was great as well. If you're able, I highly recommend checking this place out. The chef's and bartender are incredibly talented.
18 December 2022 3:30
From the food to decor and staff…. You will enjoy your experience (and that’s what it is) at Avelo! The staff’s enthusiasm for their menu is contagious and then the food lives up to your expectations. Plus, it’s plant based…. So good!
21 September 2022 22:23
Nice decoration and friendly staff. The food looked good but tasted less than expected and was pricy. We went for the 5 course meal. Probably for that price you can have a much better meal.
18 September 2022 4:12
If we could give 10 stars we would!

We experienced Avelo for the first time for our anniversary earlier this month. We indulged in the absolutely divine 8-course menu - so many new tastes and flavours that I still catch myself thinking about them a week later!

Tia, our server, was passionate and knowledgable. She excelled at presenting the courses to us and was happy to answer our many curious questions. She offered wonderful wine pairings and truly made our time at Avelo special.

Fernando, Avelo’s chef, took time out of his busy evening so that we could thank him personally for his beautiful creations. He was incredibly humble and gracious. We are so excited to try more from him the next time we visit.

We chose Avelo for the unique vegan 8-course meal; what will have us returning again and again is so much more than the food (although it was perfection) - the romantic ambience and thoughtful decor, the feeling of indulgence and satisfaction that YES, vegan food is this good, and of course the passionate and incredible team that makes it all happen. We can’t wait to return with friends.

Thank you Avelo for our most memorable dining experience to date!
10 September 2022 17:20
I have wanted to try Avelo for some time and now that I have it was beyond expectation. Everyone in my party of four has not stopped raving about the experience. Every dish had a new element to try, was complex, creative, presented beautifully and was absolutely delicious. Each dish seemed to get better and better throughout the eight course fine dining experience. The quality, the presentation, the love and care that went into creating, presenting and serving each dish was very apparent. The atmosphere was calm and elegant. The evening was memorable. I cannot wait to come back. Bravo team Avelo.
31 August 2022 20:34
Came here for my husband's birthday and we were both very impressed. We are not vegans ourself but are trying to eat more vegetarian. We did not miss meat at all-it never felt that something was lacking with the dish. David was absolutely amazing at describing the dishes. It was a fancy meal but didn't feel stuffy or awkward. The cocktails were very nice as well! Also 8 courses plus the amuse bouche was plenty of food and 100% worth it both in food taste, quality, service and ambience. We were hooked by the third course and already planning our next visit which will be my birthday in 2 months.if not sooner. I can't wait to recommend this hidden gem to everyone!
24 July 2022 22:12
An amazing dinning experience. The food was artistically plated and extremely unique and delicious. David our server was outstanding and extremely attentive and passionate. We enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back.
07 July 2022 11:21
It's the ultimate "surprise me! " experience. The price is certainly worth it; the chefs are wizards/witches for their amazing creations with seasonal ingredients. I was recommended by my waitress to visit again in the summertime for a different assortment of vegan dishes.
03 July 2022 11:25
Great meal! They were able to accommodate my partner's gluten-free dietary preference with no issues. Every meal was delicious and well-timed.
10 June 2022 13:07
Exquisite. I went to Awai back when it was open and Avelo is everything it was but enhanced. The food was delectable. The service was fantastic. We appreciated the server's attention to detail and recommendations for wine pairings. Avelo went the extra step to make our anniversary celebration so special. I am so excited to return at the next rotation of the menu.
26 February 2022 3:28
This is a late review, but we had such an amazing experience at this restaurant. In October of 2021, my boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary at Avelo.

The place look amazing, there were dividers in between customers so we felt at ease and safe.

We told our super fantastic server, Pat, that it was our anniversary. He gifted us two glasses of sparkling wine. They had such a nice selection and he let us taste to see which bottle we’d like to get for the rest of our meal.

Every dish that was brought out looked spectacular and Pat always had a pun to go with the food on the plate. We couldn’t have asked for a better anniversary dinner! I even gave him a joke to use for his next customers. We had an absolute blast and the food was unreal. We signed up to have the 8 course meal, but the chef was in a groove and it ended up being more like a 10 or 12 course meal. We were too caught up in our date, the food and our hilarious server to keep track.

Pat even gave us a little photo shoot. He told us different prompts of what to pose like. He said at one point show me “pineapple”. We couldn’t help but laugh.

We are looking forward to try to spend every anniversary at Avelo and make it tradition.
Thank you Avelo and thank you Pat!
08 February 2022 18:30
Loved the 5 course tasting menu! It ends up being 9 with amuse bouche plates in between courses. Lovely, cozy atmosphere and amazing service. Creative and fun menu that will excite the senses. Will totally be going back.
05 February 2022 0:28
Absolutely incredible! By far the best vegan tasting menu we've had in Toronto. The flavours were unique and inventive. Service was top notch. The food was as good or better than the top tier international plant based restaurants like Vedge, Dirt Candy, Plant, Pollen St Social, Vanilla Black and Tian. If you're looking for a unique experience that will push your understanding of what vegan food can be, definitely eat here.
30 January 2022 3:53
So happy we went with the 8 course tasting menu! The dishes were all well thought out and beautifully presented. The Plexiglas barriers and abundant air purifiers made dining in feel safe without ruining the ambiance.
29 January 2022 7:11
Absolutely superb on every level. Food, service and ambiance are perfect. Great place to enjoy a special occasion or treat.
27 January 2022 4:49
We held our Christmas dinner here and we all had the best culinary experience we've ever had. Ambience is elegant and intimate. I'm not a vegan but I never thought vegan food could be this good. Every dish was more stunning than the last, an incredible array of flavours and colours and sensations. Hospitality was incredibly kind, friendly and accommodating. Avelo is definitely living up to its hype.
11 January 2022 15:42
Honestly I did not like the food one bit. Nothing tasted fresh or interesting in the least. Most of the eight dishes I was served were left barely touched as I found nothing was cooked properly, some things were very raw while others overcooked or dehydrated to the point where you could not taste a thing. No flavour and the ingredients tasted pretty stale, even the wine tasted flat like a bubbly that had been left in the fridge then served weeks later. The decor was pretty but I would rather the food have been better.
01 January 2022 10:49
We had very high hopes for this place and were more than slightly disappointed.

We came here for our double birthdays and were very excited about their 8 course tasting menu. In short summary, every single dish lacked any wow factor. The ideas were there for creative vegan dishes, but the flavour combinations and smart use of ingredients were absent. We've been to many great veggie forward places and all the good ones have the same thing in common - you don't even think about eating meat because the dishes stand for themselves. Here, course after course, we looked at each other and said, so what? Not memorable or inventive.

We don't mind spending a lot of money for good food, but we ended up spending $450 for two people for 8 courses and drinks and had a lot left to be desired. Sad to say as huge supporters of the Toronto food scene, we will not be back.
27 December 2021 6:10
Amazing food, amazing staff and amazing location! So glad we got a reservation at Avelo! We will be back for sure!
24 December 2021 22:22
This was the most delicious restaurant I've eaten at in a while. We had Isabelle as our server, she was knowledgeable, friendly, and on top of our drinks. Will absolutely be back. 10/10 recommend this restaurant. Small portions but absolutely worth the money.
21 November 2021 2:55
5 star service, 5 star food and flavours. Definitely one of the most (if not the most) flavourful vegan places I've been to. There is a fair service charge at the end 18%, but it means everyone is paid equally and fairly. My partner loved the interior, and said it was 100% her type of aesthetic. Will be back when we are in Toronto.
13 November 2021 12:19
Unique dishes and friendly service - not snooty like some fine dining can be. Our five-course tasting took 1: 45 hrs and each course was lovely.
12 November 2021 21:51
Absolutely amazing experience. The food was delicious. We got the 8 course tasting but turned out to be a couple more courses than that. Service was fantastic. This place punches way above its price.
09 November 2021 11:45
The best Vegan food I’ve had. The 5-course meal was plenty! Each course is delicately placed on an elegant dish; aesthetically pleasing and Instagrammable! Absolutely loved the use of simple ingredients applied creatively through the use of various textures and colours. The flavours explode with every bite. Our server Pat was professional yet friendly and made our experience very enjoyable.
06 March 2021 21:32
The food, flavors, presentation, and service are excellent. The atmosphere is quaint and charming. This vegan restaurant has done it all right!
01 December 2020 8:05
Yesterday was the first time we went to this fine restaurant. But It is obviously not the last time. We had great time with the excellent service, with the great cooking and booze and with the decent payment. We will surely visit there again.
06 November 2020 12:35
Incredible attention to detail at Avelo! What a wonderful plant-based culinary experience. Amazing flavours and beautiful presentation! Immaculately clean interior. Not pretentious but very classy and gorgeous design/decor of the restaurant. Well done!
11 October 2020 22:48
Awesome experience! The food was delightful. Everything from the flavours to the presentation to the plant based freshness was perfect. Our server George was absolutely wonderful and the atmosphere was very elegant and calming. The rooms are small with limited tables so it's very private and intimate (you feel like a VIP guest!). This was my first time going to a restaurant like this where you do not know what is going to be on the menu and it was a very fun adventure. I definitely recommend this restaurant to any vegan/vegetarian but I would also highly recommend this to anyone with an open mind who loves good food:)
19 May 2020 4:03
I don't really have the words so I will keep this brief. It was probably the best dining experience I have ever had. Do the 8 course. You won't be disappointed.
01 May 2020 23:48
Soup, Pizza, Crusted Endive, Refresher, Stacked potatoes, Palette Cleanser, Dessert. Each was a tasty and thoughtful dish that went with everything. A quaint restaurant with a low seating capacity makes for a very intimate dining experience. For us personally, the potatoes felt a bit dry and gave a very 'i am stuffed' feeling. The soup, pizza and the Sunflower Ice Cream were amazing. They were very kind to accommodate our dietary restrictions as well. As vegetarians, we loved this place, but even if you are not, Avelo will give you a dining experience (for a special occasion or otherwise) that will leave you full and walking out with a smile. Will surely visit again.
25 April 2020 11:45
The food was so good and the 9 course was so filling. The staff is great, super attentive but not over bearing and Teresa (sp?) was amazing. Totally worth it and will go back for sure.
21 April 2020 6:02
We were super excited to try this place and booked our table 3weeks ahead, but we were disappointed by the quality and the presentation of the food. Not one meal that I can say the taste was anything special. They served us a thin slice of apple with different sauces on it (apparently called “Apple Palate Cleanser”), which was just tasteless and badly presented, let alone how you would question the best way to eat that “slice of thin apple”. Especially the desert at the end, was some sort of ice cream which was “frozen”. The simplest culinary details weren’t even considered in what was called “plant based fine dining”! How can you have such a beautiful restaurant like that and not care about these sort of details at all?
19 April 2020 1:57
Whether someone is an omnivore, vegan or vegetarian, you will absolutely love the food, service and atmosphere of this restaurant! 5 stars isn't enough! We will definitely tell everyone we know while visiting Toronto make plans to reserve a table here. You won't be disappointed. Bravo Avelo! Bravo.
15 March 2020 7:03
This place was excellent. Each dish was mind-blowingly creative. The wine and beer selection is diverse, and the service is fantastic. I will definitely try to come back for another great meal.
10 March 2020 19:56
Loved the food great ambiance, food portions just a tiny bit too small, but lovely food and great ingredients and presentation. Loved the service and even the music selection.
Great overall experience. Will go back!
23 February 2020 20:29
Easily one of the best meals I've ever had. The restaurant is beautiful and feels so much more comfortable and special than most others in Toronto. The food is spectacular - so many things that I've never eaten before.
23 February 2020 17:07
Mind blowing.so happy I got to experience the Italian pop-up menu, because now I get to go back and try the regular menu with confidence it will be: mind blowing. Doesn’t matter if you’re vegan or not! Clearly this team is very talented.
19 February 2020 11:05
I had the 8 course tasting menu this weekend, and it was the best meal of my life. The food here is delicious and meticulously put together. The drinks selection is fantastic and the service is impeccable. The ambience and setting are perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant to vegans and non-vegans alike.
19 February 2020 4:15
I had higher hopes for a fine dining vegan restaurant. I was very excited to eat at Avelo, because of the prior reviews and I've seen a lot of they food they serve on IG.

I dined there last night at opted for their 8 course tasting menu, I wanted the full experience. My first course was a silky smooth soup, but everything fell either flat or was over salted after that. Don't get me wrong, every course was beautifully plated and looked very appetizing, but lacked any real flavour. Most bites were very disappointing, so much so, that most of the food that was on my plate was left there.

The service and atmosphere were wonderful, the aesthetic of the restaurant is lovely and it had a very cozy feel. It's unfortunate that the food was very much lacking.

I won't be returning or recommending this place to anyone, especially since the bill came in at $250 for two people (2x 8courses, 1mocktail and 2 glasses of wine. Totalling just over $300 including gratuity). I'm extremely disappointed.
18 February 2020 22:24
Lovely, cozy atmosphere and attentive service. The 8 course meal is delicious and each dish is distinctly flavourful. My favourite dishes were the ones with mushrooms. Grilled chanterelles on risotto were juicy and unctuous. Truffle raviolis on aigo buido were stellar - I couldn't get enough of this dish. The desserts were probably the weakest courses. We got the grape tart and garlic ice cream desserts. The grape tart filling was thin and sour and the crust was rather flavourless. The garlic ice cream had an unpleasant aftertaste but the cookie crumble was delicious. Thank goodness for the truffles served with the bill.
08 February 2020 16:30
The food is beyond belief, every bite of every dish is an experience. Do your taste buds a favor and stop by.
06 February 2020 7:15
Let me start by saying the menu and ambience was nothing short of incredible. Our server however was quite frankly rude, inappropriate and offensive. First of all, she overstayed her welcome on multiple occasions at our table, talking AT us instead of TO us. My partner and I are also non drinkers, which she would know since she took our drink orders. She proceeded to openly talk about her experiences getting drunk and high continuously which made us very uncomfortable.

She also had her back turned to the entire room as she discussed getting “plastered” with another table (for 12 minuets, we actually timed it) while other tables were waiting for service and getting visibly annoyed.

Lastly, as we were getting ready to leave after what was supposed to be a romantic and quiet evening she approached us in the doorway to talk at us for another 10 minuets. At the end of the conversation she actually told me that I would make a “VERY EXPENSIVE ESCORT” multiple times. I’m not sure in which universe this is appropriate. My boyfriend proceeded to simply walk out because he couldn’t stand listening to her for another second.

I am not usually someone who leaves bad reviews, but this experience was beyond offensive and completely ruined what would be an amazing romantic dinner. It’s such a shame that an incredibly talented team of chefs suffer due to a waitress who has no boundaries and who’s social etiquette does not match the quality of the food.
05 February 2020 16:31
First time visiting Avelo, also went to Awai. Love the experience. I wish there wasnt garlic in the ice cream for my meal experience. But all and all a cool time and everyone should definately at least go once.
29 January 2020 12:31
My wife and I really enjoyed Avelo's tasting menu. I've given them 5 stars due to their creativity and how they're pushing other restaurants (not just Vegan) to a higher level. A message to Avelo's chef (s) - while travelling, my wife and I have have been fortunate to experience vegan dishes from countries like Brazil, Thailand or Spain. Fresh almonds from Valencia, a ripe tomato from Naples, a fresh mango from Brazil, or dark chocolate from Brugges can all deliver amazingly on their own, and literally change a palette forever. I'm not sure if there are importers who can deliver this level of quality on a regular basis, but worth the search? If this produce is more expensive, then set aside one night in the week for customers like us who are willing to pay a higher price for the best quality. Another idea - we thought the roasted carrots inside the soup were incredible, and it reminded us of another dish made by a grandmother in northern Italy. Wouldn't it be interesting to hold a contest for immigrants to offer up their best plant based home cooked recipe. The short list of selections could present to you in person, and maybe the winners have dishes named after them? Perfect idea for a multicultural city like Toronto. Cheers!
06 January 2020 14:50
Thoughtful vegan tasting menu, delicious and beautifully presented. Also a nice selection of craft beers and drinks. Nice cozy hole in the wall type of restaurant with attentive service and personable staff. Great place to check out in Toronto!
06 January 2020 13:47
4.5 stars.
I recently took my partner for a birthday dinner. We did the 8 course. Overall a very nice dinner with interesting and delicious food in a tiny house with a nice atmosphere and pleasant service. 8 course was $95 per person and we had 5 glasses of wine between us. Bill was somewhere between $250-300 with tip. Look, it’s really expensive. Bottom line is you’re paying a lot and getting a fancy, very unique, multi-course meal. It was really nice and my partner was so happy. Deep down the price stings me. But it was a special occasion.

8 courses is too much and we were stuffed. And I usually eat a lot. But the 5 course option would have been too little. I think 7 courses, or 6 larger ones would have been just right.

I think about 5 of the 8 courses were great. 3 were just whatever. This is why I hesitate to come back. I think for $300, all 8 courses need to be amazing. Here’s what I remember being good (Avelo owners please take note). The soup (can’t remember what it was made from), potato cutlet, risotto with the foam, desserts. Here’s what was just okay. The dish with the single celery stalk type thing (has little flavour), the babaganoush flatbread (very underwhelming in flavour despite the delicious description). I know I’m missing something. There may have been a dish made of beats which was good too.

To the owners / chefs. I suggest offering a 7 course meal with a lower price. And try to up the flavours of the dishes I mentioned above. I would consider returning for one more shot, perhaps in the summer.
27 December 2019 4:38
I took my partner here for her birthday and had the 5 course tasting menu. I'm not vegetarian or vegan but it was one of the best tasting menus I've ever had! Better than a lot of the tasting menus with meat that I've had. I was just disappointed we didn't go for the 8 course menu! All of the food was amazing and every dish was unique in its own way. Even if you're not vegetarian/vegan it is 100% worth it. Best meal I can remember having in Toronto in the last couple years.
21 December 2019 6:34
Creative & delicious meal presented attractively & professionally without flag-waving about its being vegetarian, in an architecturally decorated Victorian house. A wonderful restaurant—thank you!
20 December 2019 7:05
Food was amazing and the service was outstanding! They went above and beyond to make a truly memorable experience. We had the 5 course dinner and we're excited to go back to try the 8!
17 December 2019 16:12
Ate at Awai, and food was excellent with excellent service. Flat bread amazing, and ravioli, soup was unreal in my experience. Looking forward to avelo
10 December 2019 6:04
FANCY VEGAN FOOD! I appreciate that they're showcasing fresh produce and that they're not making mock meats. I also appreciate the diversity of the ingredients they use.

For anyone trying to find this place, go by the address. Don't look for a sign. There is no sign. I walked past the restaurant my first time. Oops.

I started with an appetizer made of celtuce. Celtuce is also called asparagus lettuce, and it's sort of like the inner part of a broccoli stem. It's tender but it's got a bit of a chew as well. I've never seen it used in a non-Chinese environment, and I've only had it stir-fried. This one came beautifully presented and was served with a variety of sauces and garnishes. At the end of the day, the celtuce didn't blow my mind, but the sauces on the plate were rather tasty. One of the garnishes, I believe a zucchini crisp of some sort, tasted rather earthy, and when I say that, I mean like soil. All in all though, an interesting start to my meal that left me curious to see what else would be served.

I then had a pistachio cracker amuse bouche with a couple different purees and black shallots they make in house. It was the highlight of my meal. It was stunning and unfortunately only one bite, but it definitely made me want more.

For my entree, I had a wheatberry risotto with hedgehog mushrooms and lobster mushrooms and some sort of carrot foam. All in all, it was a lot of brown food on a pretty plate, but it's still a lot of brown. That being said, as vegan food goes, this dish was pretty substantial. I was worried I'd leave hungry. This was nice and filling and the wheatberries and mushrooms had very nice textures.

Dessert was black garlic ice cream and cookie crumble. The black garlic had a funk that I couldn't tell was black garlic, and the chocolate sauce on top somewhat overwhelmed the flavor of the ice cream. Actually, the cookie crumble did too. The ice cream was super creamy though.

Service was a delight and I'd love to see what other dishes they come up with in the future!
03 December 2019 21:59
As a non-vegan I'm totally in awe of the flavour palette I experienced. I loved almost everything I tried. HIGHLY recommend!
01 December 2019 19:57
First time trying the restaurant and really loved the experience. I took the 5 course meal and it was a delight. Unique and flavourful food and friendly staff. You get what you pay for at Awai and we will definitely be back! Thank You and Bravo!

What a great meal we had! A charming little house - it feels so private and special. Food was amazing and really interesting. It seems that every dish had something special - either an ingredient I'd never had before or prepared in a unique way.

Service was also top notch. This is a wonderful place for a date since it feels so much more cozy than most popular restaurants.

Awai was amazing, and their new home at Avelo is even better.

I attended the soft opening and enjoyed 8 courses plus a few snacks. Some highlights included: celtuce with bearnaise, beet-pom reduction, and pecans; an old family molé recipe concocted of 30 ingredients and punctuated with pops of sweet corn kernels; a bite containing every angle of apple you can imagine (fermented black, dehydrated crisp, fresh sliced, concentrated kombucha) ; black garlic ice cream served with soy sauce-infused chocolate and some crumbled cookies; a strawberry-hibiscus tart that was apparently sugar- and gluten-free (?) but still somehow tasted great. It was all so unique, and worked surprisingly well together. I guess it makes sense, since they apparently have a ton of chefs collaborating on the menu.

Decor was great (HUGE improvement), and the new location is so much more convenient than the old spot in BWV. Service was lovely throughout the night, with the cooks coming out to introduce their dishes. It all felt really personal and special.

Overall, I'm glad to see such a creative approach to plant-based fine dining in the city!
