Bakes by the Lake

I emailed this bakery and requested cupcakes that were dairy, egg, nut as well as coconut free. They emailed back to say they could so I ordered a dozen. When I picked them up I reviewed the order, thankfully, and was told they made them with Almond flour. How is that nut free. Be very careful when ordering from here if you have a serious dietary concern.

Follow up to your reply: you did serve the cupcakes. You charged me and when I reviewed the email with you. You still charged me you even suggested that I still serve them as some people aren’t allergic to nuts they just don’t like them. Seriously!

Bakes by the Lake supplied all the vegan desserts for our wedding. The desserts were absolutely delicious!

Someone recommended this bakery in the Ontario Celiac group on Facebook, we were visiting the area from Oakville and it was 100% worth the detour to stop by.

The soft pretzel is Amazing! Also picked up some delicious donuts and bagels! The owner is a super sweet and friendly woman! If you are looking for amazing gluten free baked goods, this is the place!

Okay.even if you are NOT gluten free etc.go and get your num num on! This place is fantastic! The cupcakes - last week I had a strawberry, and a lemon cupcake. I meant for one to be eaten in a couple of days but I couldn't help myself! GONE! Lol.the texture of the cake is soft, smooth and moist. The smell and flavour of the cakes were delicate but still present without leaving an aftertaste. The icing is decadent, silky and thick but not overwhelming and there was a lot of it and for me that was a + b/c I LOVE icing. The lemon cupcake is my absolute favourite (I LOVE LEMON) and I have to control myself not to go back and get and eat a dozen more. Their pizza buns are savory and soft. The bun feels heavy in your hands but is not dense, gritty or crumbly like some gluten free buns are. It wasn't soggy either! And to put a cherry on top - the staff are welcoming and kind and so are the café goers. GO and show this little bakery your support because you will not be disappointed. I wish I had pictures to show you all but I ate my treats too fast.

Everything is absolutely delicious! My sister has severe allergies to gluten, dairy, and eggs so it is always a struggle to find her baked goodies that are enjoyable. We’ve tried many vegan bakeries in Toronto and have never really been impressed. We recently bought a property just past Orillia and we were surprised to find a vegan bakery close by. After trying it, we were hooked! I never make a trip up without stopping at Bakes. We’ve never had a treat that’s disappointed. Everything tastes home made and not unbearably sweet. The pretzels and bagels are the closest to the actual thing that we’ve ever tried. I also enjoy all the goodies from Bakes and normally would dread eating vegan baked goods. I can only say amazing things about this place! We are always greeted by friendly smiles. It’s honestly such a pleasure visiting them every time! The pricing is also very reasonable for vegan baked good. I’m always pleasantly surprised when they tell me the total. We’ve always spent an arm and a leg on vegan goodies.
Would definitely recommend giving this place a try!

We had Bakes by the Lake provide dessert for our daughters wedding of 120 people. Everyone raved about the variety of gluten free cupcakes as they were moist and melt in your mouth delicious!

If you're vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, lactose intolerant, they got you covered. 10/10, highly recommend.

If you need a custom cake for a birthday or special occasion, they do that too. Great ambience, great employees. Favorite place to eat in Orillia. Great breakfast menu on the weekend.

Second time I've been for brunch and it's soooo good. Brought home a peanut butter cheesecake bar and a death by chocolate brownie, they are both delicious? On top of that, bakes by the lake made my wedding cake 3 years ago and we have been going back ever since. Really warm and friendly service, great food and cute new Bistro!

I have tried the bread and the blueberry muffin and they are absolutely yummy.
Beautiful cozy space inside we will definitely be back to try out a meal.

This place is amazing! I hadn’t stopped by because I’m not gluten free and I find that sometimes gluten free bakery can be a bit dry. We had brunch today and by far it was hands down my favourite vegan meal! There was so much on the plate and it was so well presented. Excellent value. The carrot cake slice I had was to die for. This is my new favourite spot as not only the food is good but the location is great and it is beautifully decorated.

Wonderful vegan gem. GF and Dairy free desserts, coffee and fresh baked bread. Absolutely delicious warm fresh baked vegan bread! The best! Order ahead for pickup. Delightful family business and baked goods. Lots of street parking and parking lot. Steps away from lake.

I have been here a few times to pick up some fresh baked treats and it always exceeds my expectations. Their breads and bagels are the best of any gluten-free bakery around, and the owners are so welcoming and friendly.

OMG, we just dined at their new establishment, Tea Room, next door with our daughter Katie. I can't say enough good things about the food, exquisite taste and flavor, displayed very artistically on the plate, AND the quantity- we all left very, very full. The staff, servers, cooks are all very super pleasant and accommodating. If I could give them 10 stars I would!

The best baked goods and most pleasant staff you will ever encounter. I drive from outside the area almost every week to shop there and the new tea room next door is a great addition to the business.

This place exudes good vibes. Makes you want to throw on your biggest hat and go enjoy a gluten free cupcake inside their adorable shop! Came across this place because I was craving something sweet. I don’t follow any dietary restrictions but this place is amazing! Take everything you know about specialty treats and forget it. Everything was enjoyed! Delish!

Food was yummy and service was exceptional. If I lived in the area I would visit again and again. Also got a cheesecake for the wife's bday and hands down the best we ever had. Thank u!

First time visiting here today. Lovely little shop, and beautiful decor. Got a few muffins, cinnamon buns, and a cheese flatbread. The baked items were delicious, but the cheese bread was a great disappointment (bread was too mushy and undercooked). Good to keep in mind also, specialty goods (like these) are pricey. Will return again sometime. Found (left) an adorable painted rock outside too!

Went in August 8th to try their dessert and place an order for August 13th for a birthday cake. Said it would be ready 10: 30. I arrived at 11 and the employee who took my order and wrote it down says to me I think I gave away your cake. Another worker came and said the order was never communicated and I could wait 1.5 hours so they could bake one or I could take a variety pack of cupcakes.
It was my mom's 70th birthday and there is no way to get a gluten free cake with zero notice. We especially drove from Gravenhurst to try their stuff and place an order and had a long drive to Toronto to take the cake.
While they offered 10 cupcakes for the price of 6 it did not fix the situation and left our family cakeless on a special occasion.
The employee offered a gift card but I would not return.
We had plans to order a larger cake for a bigger family celebration on Sunday and they knew that but they lost my business.
Never thought when my order was all written in the planner that I should have called to confirm!

Thank you so much for our beautiful wedding cake! We were married in early October and were so pleased with our wedding cake from Bakes by the Lake. I am a vegan and it was so lovely to have not only a delicious autumnal vegan two-tiered carrot cake, but an absolutely stunning one as well! They also provided mini cakes for our parents and grandparents to take home after our physically distanced wedding. They collaborated with 6 Doors Up to ensure the flowers on our cake matched our wedding florals.talk about attention to detail! The result was stunning.
I'm so grateful for the detail, care, and service Bakes by the Lake provided on our wedding day. Regardless of whether you are vegan or gluten free, visiting Bakes by the Lakes is a must. We've tried many of their treats and can't recommend them enough.

The espresso is top notch. Lovely, smooth and rich. The baked goods are stellar.

When we went, we couldn't decide between a delicious lemon meringue with raspberries and a key lime pie square.we ordered one and went home with both.

This place is great! Just had a bagel with avocado, side of homemade hash browns and it was delicious. Staff and owner are super friendly, you can tell they care about what they put out. They also have brunch and outside seating on sunny days, highly recommend.

Driving through Orillia, stopped in @ Bakes by the Lake, their food is phenomenal. The butter tart squares are so good. Will definitely make detours back to Orillia to visit Bakes

The most delicious bakery treats, literally cannot go wrong with anything, as well as super friendly staff! I am not vegan, I consider myself a meatatarian and I AM OBSESSED with this bakery, I think that says something.

We drive 2 hrs to get to Orillia and Bakes by the Lake is our favourite place to go. Not only is the food gluten free (we are celiac) but delicious and the service is exceptional. My daughter who is 8 is positively acknowledged everytime we go (most shops ignore the kids) and this means the world to her. Thank you for all you do. Especially during this pandemic. They are also doing breakfast outside and meals on Fridays when the street is closed down. AMAZING

Funky, warm atmosphere and unbelievable treats. Honestly, taste heaven! (SEE PIC, we dug in so fast we couldn't take a pic LOL) Thoroughly enjoyed this treat in beautiful downtown Orillia:)
