I love this store. Some South African treats, some British, European - amazing selection of liquorice.

Love this little shop with tons of European treats and things that are almost familiar to the Canadian palate. Best placed for smoked fish.

This place is packed with every imaginable dutch specialty food you're craving. Check out their Haribo selection!

A little pricey but considering there’s not many places to get South African products one can overlook that.

Great place! Wanted to look for more South African products. This is the only place where anyone sells South African products. I need my all gold tomato sauce. They don’t have aromat tho. The store in Toronto is only South African which is a lot better

I've probably come here maybe 30-35 times and the service and quality of anything that I've ever boughten or gotten here was been top notch. Every sandwich I've eaten has been 5 out of five. If somebody comes here and leaves anything less than a five-star review, they're lying.

Best shop in Ottawa for products from South Africa and Poland! Mrs Ball's Chutney, Knorr range of products, borewors, pepadews, and loads more. Well worth the visit! Top marks

Absolutely lovely little store with Tons of european variety. I had the roast beef sandwhich which was delicious! Was nice to try sweets I've never tried before. Great store & deli! Friendly staff too!

Still a decent market but not near as big as some of the others. Had some nice treats inside that we picked up. But alas we only visited it once due to the ornos market being so big and having everything we needed.

This store has a lot of awesome European delicacies things you can't find in a regular store they have excellent service and their sandwiches made on site are the best this side of Ottawa if you're near Bakers be sure to stop in pure round and grab one of their amazing sandwiches

Coming to Henry place for 17 years. Always the great feeling of a quality food store like it was back in the 70‘s where grandpa would buy you a candy if you helped him shopping. I hope it stays this way! Thanks Henry and team for all the years you have served us and continue to serve.

A community staple! An excellent source to pick up your cold cuts, snacks, milk and desserts. Never underestimate this store. Shop owners are very nice and are pleased to assist you!

Such a sweet store with lots of incredible German and Dutch treats. I was so glad to find Aromat seasoning - something I grew up using but have never been able to find it since! Can't wait to return.

Delicious sandwiches, with fresh cut meats and cheeses. Lovely staff and a very well kept store. You'll find all sort of European goodies here all well sorted. Definitely recommend for fresh deli, and a go-to lunch place.

Went for a sandwich today and it was wrapped in saran and then microwaved, thought it was very weird and then realized why when I bit into it it was to hide how stale the bun was. Worst deli meat sandwich ever. Especially for a staggering price of $9.60

Bakker's is a great General Store. So many wonderful imported items that you could never find anywhere else. And staff are friendly and helpful.

Reminds me of my parents. They have everything that my mom would buy when I was growing up. Lots of Dutch products.

Was a great little shop, the sausage I tried was amazing will definitely go back for the meat and the faygo drink. The people working at the store were extreamly kind and helpful also so, great customer service.

Great place to get Dutch groceries and supplies. We always go after visiting the Third World Bazaar to get some dutch essentials and the hard to find chocolate "I" for my niece.

The official opening of the railway occurred in 1854, when it ran from Prescott all the way to Bytown. When the railway came to Gloucester and the Osgoode Township in the late 1850s, the Village of Manotick Station became highly significant, as it was the first established station.

The station was a small, two-storey building that consisted of a living quarters, a telegraph station and a post office. The building was owned by the Fitzsimons Family who also operated a general store at the station. In c. 1885, the T. N. Johnson family began to occupy the station, as they ran the post office.

In the 1870s, the general store at the station was purchased by William Burns, although the T. N. Johnson family continued to inhabit the station until 1922, after Alexander Potvin purchased the store from Burns in c. 1920. At the station, Potvin operated a feed depot, a gas station and the general store.

It was during this period that the store underwent a historical robbery. Potvin had been selling farm implements to his nephew when two masked robbers entered the store. The two Potvins were tied up and looted while being held at gunpoint. While the felons helped themselves to food from the store, a nephew managed to work his hands loose and wrestled a revolver from one of the gunmen upon their return. He then chased the looters down the railway tracks with their own gun.

In the late 1920s, the original building was replaced by the Kemptville railway station house.

After the prohibition and the wartime period, The Bakker family purchased the general store in the 1960s and has operated it ever since. It is now run by Henry Bakker and his family, and it is located right next to the Third World Bazaar, which is operated by his brother, Dick Bakker.
