Banjara Bloor

One doesn't go to Banjara Restaurant on Bloor Street West for ambience or service (both are fine if not unremarkable). They go there for the exceptional, delicious, and authentic Indian cuisine. Whether eaten there, picked up, or even delivered, their great food obliterates or minimizes awareness of the former's lack, rendering it irrelevant. Banjara, which means "nomad" in Hindi, is undoubtedly one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever visited in Toronto. In fact, it is one of the best Indian restaurants I have eaten at anywhere in the world (noting that I have never been to India). The Chef, Rajeesh Veerella, has cooked in several other establishments, including a stint working with Jamie Kennedy at his Royal Ontario Museum restaurant in the mid-1990s. His attention to flavours and textures, which undoubtedly harken back to his own nomadic childhood, makes his dishes both iconic and memorable. That, coupled with his skills honed in many fine restaurants worldwide, creates food worth eating and raving about. His Butter Chicken, a much-loved Western-obsessed dish enlivened by layers and layers of rich flavours and spices, surpasses the mundane that passes for the same thing at your typical Indian restaurant. The same goes for many of his signature dishes, including the Chicken Korma, Aloo Gobi, Curry Beef, Vegetable Biryani and, without fail, every one of the Naan Breads, especially the Garlic Naan, my favourite. All in all, picking any of Banjara's numerous dishes will leave one's mouth longing for the next time it gets to eat such glorious food.

I took for granted how good this place is for a long time. It was my local North Indian restaurant for about a decade. I always new it was good, but I didn't realize how far above their offerings are above the average Indian restaurant in Ontario.

Their food is rich and flavourful. An absolute treat. Portions a large enough that my partner and I can easily share an app and one curry and feel stuffed.paneer makhani with paratha is a favourite of mine.

Absolutely lovely server. Zero atmosphere. Didn't love my meal. I'd go back though because, I've a better understanding of how to order.

We had sautéed green beans. Banjara elevates this simple sounding dish into something really special.

The food is super tasty, but twice now we ordered the Daal Curry and received something completely different. Super disappointing when you waited over an hour for your food to arrive. Please pay better attention when bagging to go orders. Cause not only was my dinner wrong, so was someone else’s.

Food is great as always, service was mediocre at best. We waited over 20 minutes to have our order taken and had to wait about the same time for our bill to come.

Fly-ridden bathrooms.
Food taking 45 minutes.
Bland food.
Servers adding extra items you never received.

Nothing was complimentary, so i can't even review the papaddum.

Don't go here. Just avoid. Keep walking.
Whomever said that this restaurant is the best in the city is 1) lying to you. 2) has never had indian before. 3) may be paid for a fake review.

The restaurant is centre of attraction! Food is good, but the desserts don't satisfy the taste buds! Service is ok!

I ordered thali with veg pakoras onion kulcha and tandoori naan with mango lassie and 7up
We were so upset when they serve cold meal when we said to warm to pakora server gave us just 3 small pieces instead of handful gobhi was totally hard to eat, no taste at all in any dish, yeah but lassie and 7up was ok means over all disgusting mashup my birthday day properly

Tasty and good quality. This is my go-to for Indian food downtown. Went with a crowd on a Tuesday and the place was empty. The restaurant does lots of take out and in fact I find the portions you get when you do take out are way bigger than in the restaurant.

One of my favourite Indian places. They have now second location at Ellington street, larger place, practically no waiting time, but to be honest, this one is a little bit better

Awesome and authentic and very delicious Indian food! As a non-Indian, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the rich and deep and spicey flavours of a variety of dishes as part of a large group. No one left disappointed.

Favourite place for my wife and I to go if we are ever in the area.
Butter chicken is definitely a popular choice and our other pick is a spinach based curry with chicken.
Chicken is always soft and tender.
The naan here is out of this world. They have cheese naans (which I thought was interesting) but wouldn't really recommend as it is a bit odd mix with the curries. Garlic or butter naan is the way to go.

It's a bit pricier than other places but definitely worth the treat once in a while

Popular Indian restaurant in the Toronto area, has variety of options to choose from. Ambiance is nice and authentic. Service was quick, everything we ordered was delicious, especially the paneer tikka sizzler.

Their dal makhani had way lot of garlic, probably they should just ask the customer if they need garlic or not. Rest everything was good.

Very tasty food and friendly service. The place is a bit run down, but that simply adds to the atmosphere. Free, but limited parking.

Simply the best Indian food Toronto has to offer. Really great value, and really amazing food. The Tandoori Cauliflower is my personal favourite. The service is always really fantastic, and super quick. If there is a long line, do not worry it moves fast. I cannot wait to go back!

Basically the best Indian food in Toronto or even the GTA. Biyarani and lamb Curry a must try. Staff very friendly and pleasant

The biryani was really good. To my surprise the place was packed with only non Indians which proved that it's famous to everyone's taste buds! I'll definitely revisit it again!

Food was not bad, the portions seems small but its actually extremely filling so do not order so much.

A nice restaurant with a cozy comfortable atmosphere. The menu offers a wide range of options, and the servers are very attentive. The food is very tasty and comes in huge portions at a very reasonable price. I would recomend coming with a group of friends and ordering several dishes to share.

We went there few weeks ago, we ordered veg platter in starter, we got 2 very big mushroom of size big trees, you can't even try to have that. In main course we ordered veg, it was ok and desert was ok ok too

Its a fun place to eat as restaurant is really authentic. The food is 10/10, service is 10/10, place is 10/10. The only issue is the parking around the restaurant, there is not enough space, in busy hours you might have to park away and take might have to take a walk. Buy that's fine as the restaurant is worth it.its one of my favorite place to go with my friends and family.

Delicious food, good prices, weird doorbell at each table that rings through the restaurant to get the servers attention

Nice to find good things from other cultures that taste delicious. This place has amazing service. Beautiful faces and wonderful smiles. The food is fabulous.

If you are looking for good indian food then this is not the place where you should eat. Food is below the average. Has a bar with very few option of beers. I gave 2 star just for food. Staff is really good and serve you very well and as quick asap.

Banjara at bloor is a restaurant which is specialised in Indian Cuisine. The taste is superb and service quality is awesome. They have good Thalis and the taste is authentic.
