Bar Lupulus

This is one of my favorite spots, I just love going there. Try to have Graham's service! He's just amazing, so funky and has such a thorough knowledge of his wine menu. The menu is often changing but always surprises me, I keep going back, give them a try! (Sharing plates is the best thing to do here)

I've been to Bar Lupulus a few times now and consistently enjoyed it! Always a great beer selection and the food is excellent. The space can be a bit noisy when it gets really full, but the atmosphere overall is quite nice. It's quite fun to sit at the bar table near the back, to watch the chefs prepare and garnish the dishes to go out for service.

Nice place, but overpriced for small portions. The food quality and service are very good though.

Always an exceptional selection of beer on tap! Have had several dessert dishes that look incredible and taste great! Service is friendly and knowledgeable! Regularly new items on the menus!

Food was very good, but a bit to expensive for what you get. The dish of my friends were really good but my pasta dish was literally Spegatthi with a tiny bit of braised veal cheeks. The noodles were really good but sauce was normal.

The bad part was when we were about to pay. We waited in total 45 min to get the check and pay. When we finally got the check, the waiter went off again without making us pay, came back 15 later to place other tables, then went to pay another table while we are still waiting with the bill in hand. Very unprofessional

It was my second time and will not be back again

4 of us are the salad out of 5.all 4 of us got sick who ate the salads including my 4 year old daughter. Shameful and should be shutdown

We’ve been loving Lupulus since the day they opened! The service and the experience are always top notch. The food is always interesting and the rotating taps keep us coming back. We are also big fans of the back patio as it’s tucked away, kept shady in the summer and warm in the winter. Always a great time here!

Typical fancy place where the food is very expensive but you get very little. They try very strange combinations of ingredients which often end up tasting gross. The beef tartar was good but everything else left me wanting to go across the street and just have a burger.

The service was attentive and detailed. They were able to make good recommendations and clearly understood everything they were serving.

The menu is small, mostly tapas style, and pretty expensive. But every dish we tried was wonderful. You can see it all online before arriving.

Cocktails were delicious without being pretentious. Wine and beer choice was well curated.

We went later. After dinner. I think it would be hard to show up super hungry.

I absolutely love the food. Dishes are original, flavourful, fresh, seasonal. Cocktails are delicious. Amazing wine and whiskey menu.
Service could be improved. Being kicked out after 2 hours, when it actually took 45 minutes for the waitress to take our order… that was just bad.
Went another time and they messed up our reservation. Having to argue with the lady in the front while we were right all along. Again: that was just bad. I went back and will still go back because the owner is just so nice and makes it up for staff’s mess, and the food experience is always perfect. But seriously… service needs to be fixed.

Absolutely excellent experience. The server was so knowledgeable and helpful. The food was incredible and looked like art. Wine pairing was perfection. Can’t wait to come back!

I wanted food that had flavour and taste to it. I do not recommend for people who actually like to enjoy this meal. It is expensive and unnecessary for absolutely no reason. I was quite sad leaving as I was still hungry. Service was good overall. But don’t waste your money. It is not worth it.

I have been here a few times. The only complaint I had was our waitress seemed like she was having a rough day or was swamped. Amazing patio and interesting cocktails. Desserts were delicious as well!

Some of the best restaurant food I've ever had. Each dish was a unique creation with amazing flavours, but not overpriced. Beer selection is the best in Ottawa.

Above and beyond… Is the best way I can describe Bar Lupulus. It begins with the staff who blend cheerful, conscientious and professional service with great food and drink. The house cocktails, alongside the eagerness to accommodate a drink of your choosing never fail to impress me. Furthermore, beyond a local watering hole, I have noticed a commitment to the beauty of their surroundings, with staff often clearing snow before the plow even shows up!

I could go on but go see for yourself!

The charcuterie we shared and the steak my partner ordered were great, so I would recommend it based on that.
Unfortunately my bucatini was insanely salty. My stomach did not feel great after finally stopping at 3/4 of the way. My dish may have been an outlier though, I’ve asked a friend who had ordered in the past and he said his was not salty at all.
Again I would recommend the place, just skip the bucatini since there’s a 50/50 chance you’ll get a salt bomb

One of the few places that excels both in its cocktails quality and its beer selection. Always something new and great to try, and the service is top notch. Food menu is somewhat small but excellent and elevated.

There are many overrated restaurants in Ottawa because of which places like these aren’t recognized. Great Atmosphere, 10/10 service. Delicious food and cocktails and well crafted beers. The cheese and the dessert were the highlight. Will definitely go back without a doubt

I used to live down the street and could not stay away from the ever changing selection of beverages and some of the most innovative food in the city. Now it's more than worth the drive. The owners have become friends. Highly recommended.

From the atmosphere to the drinks and meals, everything was amazing! Only reason why it isn’t rated 5 stars is that I find their hot plates to be quite expensive given the portions. It’s really more tapa, small plate style. Ended the night still hungry despite ordering a hot plate and 2 charcuteries to share with my friend. Would suggest going there more for apps and drinks, and going elsewhere for a filling meal!

I'll start with the positives: good ambience and service. The bad: local beers - we tried (3 types) were odd; food - very poor overall by any standard. The menu and server descriptions and food presentation are pretentious, however what you get is not tasting good. One of the appetizers (gabagool - cured meet) definitely did not taste right. "Gnudy" was a joke; and one of the pasta dishes was not cooked fully. Portions: I've never seen such small portions in my life. I'm not a big eater but what you get is way smaller than you would expect. Price - overpriced for what you get. For ~ $175 for two people you can find a much better place. Stay away.

Curry oil scallop crudo, with lentils. Never had anything like it in my life. Insane. Mango upside down cake, unrealllll. Now I’ve gotta come back for the pastas and mains and any chance I could order an entire mango upside down cake for my bday? Drool

Food & drinks, exceptional. Service, excellent. Atmosphere, good! A must try if you’re in Ottawa. Great for small groups/dates.

Hands down one of the classiest craft beer places in Ottawa and one of the best in Ontario. If you want "Irish Pub" type food, this place isn't for you. The food is eclectic and highly refined. Pretty much any negative food review you see here is from someone who was clearly just expecting a pub (of which there are lots of great ones around, but Lupulus doesn't market itself as a pub). Not only do they have an incredible beer list, I love bringing friends with diverse tastes here as well given the solid cocktails and wine pairing options with most dishes.

Great spot for good cocktails and find dinning. The vipe and the atmosphere is cuddly and the food quality and attention to details is high. Highly recommend them.

The portions on the cured salmon and tuna crudo were exceptionally small. Probably half of what another similar restaurant would offer for the same price. The waitress even offered a second free serving, because of the small portions. I declined the offer. The restaurant needs to fix their portions, not offer seconds to visibly disappointed customers.

Moreover, the seasoning and sides didn't compliment the fish anyways.

I would not return.

Addendum: A foodie friend told me that this restaurant has a large rotation of chefs. If that's true, it could explain the large variety of reviews.

Our third visit to Bar L. Food was delicious. Great mix of flavours and a creative twist on winter ingredients. Service was friendly and welcoming. We will be back again soon for patio season.

We were left a vulgar voicemail by one of the staff after having to cancel a reservation when childcare for the evening cancelled on us. Despite the several pleasant evening's we've had in the past we won't be returning.

Amazing experience! Best server, very kind and polite. Would definitely visit again. Cocktails and food were great. Thank you!
