Great tasting sushis, and gyoza!:) We loved their friendly customer service too. We were the last to leave, it was a fun night with friends!

Very very very cute and unique place! This bar is becoming my favourite sake place in Toronto, even Ontario! They carried a wide variety of sake which originated from Japan!
Highly 5 star?

Small cozy space. The service was prompt and the food was excellent. We ordered 4 dishes and throughly enjoyed everything.
22 November 2023 5:15
The food is mid, between me and my friend we shared 6 dishes so tasted a wide range. The eggplant was good and everything else was just…eh. Can’t speak to drinks.
15 October 2023 15:17
Intimate and cozy spot for great Japanese dishes. Very peaceful vibes inside. The food was amazing, and my favorites were the salmon tataki, beef tataki, the sashimi and the eggplant. All so well prepared. Would recommend for smaller groups of 1-4. Overall, an excellent experience.

Quaint Japanese izakaya on Ossington, w friendly, professional service. Highlights—hamachi crudo, seaweed salad, burdock salad, and the tebasaki. Will be back, for sure!
03 September 2023 21:02
Small izakaya on Ossington that serves good tapas. Ordered Hamachi Crudo, Beef Tataki, Spider Roll, Seafood Salad, Corn and Seafood Skewers, Chicken Karaage, Pork Belly Yakitori. Food took a while to arrive I think there’s only 1 chef in the kitchen. The younger lady server was very pleasant. The older woman was unfortunately a bit rude. People with that kind of personality shouldn’t be working as front of the house IMO especially when the establishment has a policy of minimum 18% tip.

Cute little Japanese Izakaya in Ossington. They have outdoor dining along the room and a few tables inside. Very cute decor and some interesting statues inside that catch your attention. Didn't do a full meal but just mainly went to grab drinks and an order for the Tebasaki wings. The cocktails were well made with unique combinations (My Own Private Tokyo had a strong matcha flavour which was really good). The service overall was great. We got seated promptly and the waitresses were very attentive and would refill water constantly. Will come back to try the rest of the menu and try more of their cocktails.

One of our favourite places on Ossington! Love the cozy atmosphere. Food and drinks were amazing! Service was great as well.

There is so much to like about this intimate bar, the ambiance, food, and sake were all top notch. A sake drinker, I won't often order the sweet sake but my guest did and wish I did too as it had bursts of fruits and length. The pork belly was our standout dish, fatty, smokey, crispy, and falling apart goodness. This place is a must. (Side note: We had a birthday next to us and all the staff came out to wish the guest a warm, generous and lighthearted birthday. A very wholesome experience)

Everything about this place reminds me of eating in Japan.

It’s compact, it’s casual, the food is good and down to earth. The sake menu is daunting.

Plus treat yourself. The miso aubergine is delicious.

Amazing place! Delicious food and staff was super friendly and let us stay after close to finish up.

Recommended. Delicious small plates and various selections on drink menu. Not many tables though better reserve before visiting.

Hamachi crudo
Flavourful with a light touch of yuzu. Addition of cucumbers and veggies lighten up dish. Chili oil added heat to the dish as well. Great dish.

Salmon tataki
Out of all yhe dishes, this was the only damper on the set. Salmon came out cold and dry. Would have liked to see this seared fresh. Tasted like cooked salmon with an uncooked centre. Flavours and textures conflicted a little. The pieces of salmon were a little too big for me to eat.

Deep fried squid tempura legs.
Served piping hot and fresh. A tad overcooked but a great way to start a meal. A little on the salty side.

Wings
Perhaps the most interesting In a good way combination of flavours. Sweet salty and spicy teriyaki. Wings still crispy despite the sauce over it. These would be phenomenal with a battered tempura fry to them.

Sushi 5
The fish is fresh and cut amazingly well. Definitely a highlight. Was a little put off by the rice which was a little overcooked. Took away from the amazing fish.

Decor and ambiance. Was a little confusing. Old 60s b&w film mixed with modern fashion decore. Service was slow but once it got going dishes came out at a smooth pace at easy intervals to eat. Table was never overwhelmed with food. Any additions after the initial order you have to wait for.

Good vibe with limited food selection.
Portion is also disappointing.
Drinks are ok but still cannot make up for the down side.
Worst of all, food took forever to be served. Basically the first dish comes 1 hour after we get our drinks. The rest came half an hour later all together.

Amazing vibe. All the food was wonderful. Incredibly cozy inside and the server was very nice and helpful.
03 January 2023 13:06
The place is ok, a little bit overrated. I took one star off coz the lady there was little bit rude.
20 November 2022 5:06
Food was delicious, I especially recommend the miso aubergine. Sake flight slapped hard. It was really well explained and the little labels for each sake are cute af. Capitalism really popped off today.
18 November 2022 17:53
Everything is good but not enough for the price I feel. Not sure how it gets 4.6/5 but try maybe I am wrong. Ordered a sake but was taken away when I wasn’t finished.: (he could have asked. But I guess the drink was very little to begin with idk.
05 November 2022 21:17
This place has the atmosphere of a small Izikaya from Tokyo. I had some sushi and sake and it was really tasty. The price is on the expensive side but I think it’s worth it, I’ll come back
01 October 2022 20:49
The food not bad,but the waitress is just soso. I paid tips but the waitress didn't say good bye with us. I don't know why, they said goodbye with the last guest except us.
02 August 2022 13:46
Une restaurant délicieux. Nous y avons mangé un lunch et c'était vraiment très bon. Les spicy rolls sont fantastiques, le Ramen délicieux, les tempura parfaits. Des produits extrements frais cuisinés à la commande. Un régal!
24 July 2022 21:17
We ordered hamachi crudo, beef tataki, spider roll and eggplants. They were all really good (though only my cousin who dined with me tried the beef) ; the eggplants dish was excellent we ended up ordering a second plate. The dessert was tasty too! I appreciate that there is marsala in their matcha tiramisu, a nice touch that is rare to find.

The ambience is also nice and cozy, the pictures of the upstair area (which was closed on the day we visited) look fun too.

Love this place! Small, quiet and cozy atmosphere. Delicious food. Perfect for sharing. Very nice and friendly service too. I got the seafood salad, pork gyoza and spicy salmon sushi roll. My favourite was the plum wine. Perfect way to end a Friday evening. Cheers!
18 July 2022 8:20
Great food! Their Japanese tapas is superb. The eggplant with miso is very unique and flavourful. Fried tofu is paired up with actual fresh crab meat. They put many thoughts into their dishes and you can feel it. Very authentic place, they even have ume shiso rolls. Wow!
03 June 2022 12:30
Unbelievable quality of food and very lovely owners.
Top stuff really.this takes you back to a izakaya +sushi place in Tokyo
28 May 2022 21:21
Had a great meal - fish was super fresh, all the small plates were delicious. Unbelievable fries that you wouldn’t expect. Good cocktails and sake list. It was our first dinner out in months and the Shozan crew was awesome!
28 May 2022 1:16
A good Spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll lunch that came with edamame, miso soup and a salad with sesame dressing.
10 May 2022 7:38
Hidden gem on ossington. The food was delicious and the service was great.

Would recommend to anyone who is chill, cool or a homie.
14 April 2022 7:01
Great atmosphere, attentive and welcoming staff and OMG the food! Do yourself a favour and order the pork belly and beef tataki - you won't regret it.

Incredible food and friendly staff!

Pork belly is a must but everything on the menu is a winner
17 January 2022 5:28
The sashimi dinner is exquisite. Sushi made to perfection. Each one a new flavour, a new texture, a new colour. Get this as your next dinner meal! Thank you, Chef!
08 January 2022 9:53
Cute and tiny Japanese bar. Delicious and fresh food, dinner portions are a little small if you compare to the price and other Japanese places. Otherwise I am very satisfied!
A variety of Japanese drinks, various sake and wines. I recommend to check out this place!
24 December 2021 2:05
Stumbled upon this place. Great authentic Japanese sushi/sashimi and amazing tapas. Quality of fish is 10/10. Great service! Highly recommend the Pork Belly in miso paste and the Sashimi in the 6ix platter.
24 November 2021 6:27
I've eaten a number of times here now and the food has been excellent every time. It tastes very homemade and they have some nice traditional things like kinpira gobo which I was delighted to find. The food at this restaurant tastes very close to how my Japanese mother cooks at home - I can give no higher compliment:) I have also found it to be very reasonably priced for quality Japanese food which is great. Highly recommend!

We are from aurora and decided to check out ossington tonight. We came across this japanese restaurant and needed a sushi fix! Amazing food! We had the gyoza, spicy salmon sushi rolls and agedashi tofu.so so good! The restaurant was super clean, warm, comfortable with awesome music and staff! We love it and definitely.will come by again when we r in ossington! I highly recommend it!

Very nice place for great Japanese food done a little differently. Excellent presentation and delicious food. Nice atmosphere except music was not to our taste. But we’re getting old! Probably just us.
Owner Ken was very accommodating and let me ‘store’ my girlfriends custom birthday cake in their kitchen to surprise her. We’re from out of town but would definitely go back next tine we’re in the neighbourhood.
25 October 2019 3:46
This is my favorite neighborhood Japanese restaurant. As a test of how great it is - I brought my most pickiest eater to this place. He openly tells everyone he dislikes Japanese food and will not hesitate to obnoxiously tell you right away he dislikes something. During our meal, he ate in silence. Completely stunned by how tasty Shozan Room's Pork Belly Donburi is - he asked to come back again. And yes we indeed came back again to enjoy their specialty maki rolls and sesame ice cream.
16 October 2019 15:26
We've been here twice and have been impressed both times. Shozan Room is a contemporary take on Japanese food run by 2 Japanese chefs. The sushi rolls, although limited in selection, are inventive and delicious. The cured ankimo is an explosion of flavour. The uni nigiri we ordered was plump, delicious and tasted very fresh.

It's a fairly new restaurant and I think they're still trying to figure the type of vibe they are going for since they have a downstairs which is cozier and an upstairs that feels a bit more formal, and they also serve from different menus. We were able to order from the upstairs menu while sitting downstairs which I think is the way to go. I truly hope Shozan Room sees more support from the community because the food is really delicious and they have a lot of potential!

Absolutely fantastic experience at this small and narrow Japanese bar/restaurant. Serves small Izikaya style dishes all of which really hit the mark. Braised short rib was fall of the bone. The spicy tempura shrimp was tasty and the chicken wings really hit the mark. Great selection of sushi rolls and signature sashimi.
Very decently priced as well. Fantastic decor and the bathrooms are one of the cleanest I’ve seen yet. Great addition to Ossington.

Loved this place! Definitely will be back, I thoroughly enjoyed the drink menu and the food. Service was spectacular! Very happy for my first time trying ️
30 August 2019 15:07
My first time to roam around Ossington and found this very nice Japanese restaurant. Their food
is amazing (tried their happy hour menu). Wine selections are limited but great! Their takoyaki and karaage are a must try! Will definitely be back again!

Wanted to like this place. It’s got cool design and atmosphere, but the food just wasn’t good, and was quite expensive. And the service was lacking.

We had the lamb chops which were the one good thing. The smoked fish and eggplant was a strange pairing, and wasn’t good. Along with strange sweet potato with the tuna tartar. The sushi might have been the worst part - the sushi rice was all wrong and it definitely did not taste like high end sushi.

It seems like they’re trying to be unique but the ingredients and sauces just didn’t work. And the staples (sushi) were just bad.

We ended up not eating a lot of what we ordered and were disappointed that the service staff didn’t ask any questions such as “what was wrong” - for that price I’d expect better service. Especially with so many great places on Ossington.

Unfortunately wouldn’t recommend unless they make some changes.
24 August 2019 1:02
The Shozan Room is amazing. We had sake bombs, warm sake, sashimi and pork belly. Possibly the best pork belly we have ever had and it is one of our favorites so we order it wherever we go. We will definitely return!
06 August 2019 23:02
Awesome little gem. Had sashimi for lunch and was high quality. Service is awesome too. Highly recommend for great food in a casual spot.
28 July 2019 1:06
**A HIDDEN GEM ALERT** this beautiful architectural spot serves amazing japanese dishes and has a touch of their own style.the decor and environment pulls you away from the busy ossington streets and you can really enjoy 1 on 1 conversations here.ordered from the lunch menu and got their grilled saba & ramen.the grilled saba came with miso soup/rice/salad/ohitashi/kinpira gobo.the ramen soup base was creamy and flavourful but not overpowering and the pork had a tender chew to it. It tasted authentic; the owner is also of japanese origin.she was patient and very polite.i wanted half my saba to go and one of the wonderful things i feel many restaurants dont do for you anymore is take the food away and pack it for you. Id gladly pack the food myself and truly do not mind doing it so i feel like this is an extra gesture she took into her own hands and appreciate it very much. Classical music was also a nice touch).

im definitely coming back here with friends for casual talks.i want to try their newwave dining upstairs; it opens mon-fri 5-7pm only.
14 July 2019 15:50
Great food with unique touches to make the typical Japanese dish extra special or take notice. The place is really intimate and cozy with friendly staff that recommended all the mouth watering dishes we had. The standouts were the duck pastrami wraps, soft shell crab croquettes and sake braised beef short ribs that our server recommended and didn’t disappoint. Also had a delicious shiso leaf mojito that was unique and tasty.
01 July 2019 20:10
The food here is incredible, and the space is cosy and comfortable. Bring on the Umeshu cocktail and gyoza are the best I have ever tasted. Can't wait to go back!
14 June 2019 18:37
Excellent, excellent excellent. One of the finest restaurants I've ever been to. A true hidden gem. Unique combinations that provide the perfect flavour. Very fair price too! I will be back, frequently.
27 May 2019 1:41
The service was terrible. We waited for 50mins before our food arrived. Drinks arrived later. Wouldn’t recommend eating here. Food was okay.
21 March 2019 20:41
It's new age Japanese which seems like they added a lot of interesting sauces to sashimi and/or cold smoked a lot of the fish. Tough to recommend because while I can see the staff are eager and trying hard to be innovative, the dishes pairing of sashimi and sauces often feels unnecessary (or downright wrong - I'm looking at you cumin curry yogurt sauce with scallops). The price point is very high even if the presentation of the food is instagram worthy (can't justify paying $45 for 12-15 pieces of very small sashimi accompanied with special sauces that often do not complement each other). One standout is the fried chicken wings which use a karage style batter but for $7.50 they could include more than 2.
