Beaded Dreams

I am changing my rating today which comes with sadness. I’ve never had to do this before but am choosing to do so because of how I felt after my visit today on August 28 2023. I went in after a long day of work at the pharmacy to purchase something special for myself. I bought a nice bag and a strawberry face scrub which are both super lovely. When I was ready to complete my purchase I had mentioned that perhaps my file could be pulled up to check if I had purchased something in the past - the women tending to the shop said that I wouldn’t have a file unless I had status. Fair enough but also completely inaccurate. What makes you so quick to assume that I don’t? I have received emailed receipts in the past as well as phone calls for when certain things are back in stock. I was never asked for my status card - not ever. I also do not believe this should dictate the level of customer service one should receive. The woman working said this out loud while another customer was in the store and it embarrassed me. For your information - I am half Mohawk (my mother) from Oka Quebec and I am half Scottish decent as well. I am fair haired with light eyes and yes believe it or not I have a status card, not that it is any of your business nor does it raise my value as a long term customer. It was as though I suddenly became just a nobody buying a bag and face scrub, somewhat inconsequential. I did not present my card today as I was never asked to do so before and quite frankly I just wanted to get the hell out of there. I am disappointed and will not return to Beaded Dreams after my experience today. My hope is that people continue to educate themselves so that there is a clear understanding that we do not have to look a certain way to be identified as First Nations. Further more I recommend conducting yourselves with proper decorum as this is Ottawa and you do not know who your clients are - or who they know. News travels quickly in a small city and small businesses are heavily reliant on great customer service.

I really have liked shopping online with this business! But sadly they're often sold out of items! Great little business though!

Beads are awesome prices! They have hard to find authentic craft supplies/items such as bone beads and porcupine quills. There’s books, earrings, dreamcatchers, clothing, purses & wallets, gemstones, findings, medicines… they literally have almost everything you could ask for ;especially in store)! Excellent customer service - very personable, friendly, super kind and caring. I’m officially addicted and each visit I’m already planning my next! Love this place!
