Honestly, this place fell off. I went and I got a jerk chicken dinner. It’s definitely not worth it. Chicken doesn’t even look cooked properly. I don’t know what kind of jerk chicken this is? The girl at the front has zero personality, and such an attitude. I definitely will not be visiting this place again! Such a waste of money.
Their food is always delicious. The are consistent in delivering tasty delicious food. When I'm home visiting family, I must go to Beryl's food good authentic Jamaica cuisine.
Came for lunch. The food was very underwhelming. Chicken dried out, rice was dry. There wasn't enough gravy to compensate for the overall dryness. The coleslaw was decent. Its far to pricey for the quality of food. The young lady at the cash was polite.
Been here twice, tiniest portion I've ever gotten from any Caribbean restaurant. Definitely will not return.way over price compared to other Caribbean restaurants
One of the most authentic Jamaican food you can find in the area. Haven't seen them be rude to anyone (Jamaican or not). I think there's a cultural misunderstanding there.
I purchased soup early one afternoon and really enjoyed it, so I purchased a second one later that same afternoon. The soup was very different, it was runnier and tasteless. It was obvious that the soup ran out and they watered it down. I was truly offended and felt discounted.
I just ordered a a medium beef wit red peas soup. 6 piece a dumpling and one morsel piece a beef. This place sucks…barely found a red peas in my soup…. HORRIBLE
Authentic Jamaican food with friendly and courteous staff. *Edit* Just visited again and was very disappointed. Came all the way from Hamilton, looking forward to sitting down, having a good Jamaican meal and experience (very rare in Ontario). Instead, I was told that the dining area was closed due to being short staffed.this was Sunday afternoon! Then there was the overpriced, really, really small soup, barely 1 cup. The large was just $1 more, but 2x the size. Come on Beryl's.what happened to you? Please improve on your pricing model and staffing, get back to being one of the best Jamaican Restaurants. At least the attendant and the cash register was pleasant.
The food is incredible! The jerk chicken is incredibly tender and goes really well with the rice & peas. The service is also great. The front staff was super friendly & bubbly! This place is awesome. Will definitely be back for some tasty jerk chicken:)
Every time I order oxtail here I’m disappointed it’s never soft or pressured enough and it has a lot of fatty pieces in it why
The barrels other location is way better I mean ands like the foods cheep ether and it’s not even that good pleaser work on your oxtail and try serving fresh coslaw
Terrible! Rice and peas was not only bland but it already went bad, Jerk chicken was as dry as stale bread, customer service is as nasty as the food. Wasted my time and money, was so hungry but I had to thrash the food.
Excellent food, customer service and attention detail. We loved the delicious, fresh, well-portioned food. We will order here again. Thank you so much!
Customer service is great from most of the employees. Food is really good, my favorite is ackee and saltfish, as it doesn't have a heap of onions in it disguised as saltfish as many restaurants do. Flavour is perfect and also food is not drowning in oil.
The food is good. If it is in stock (which is a hit or miss sometimes). My biggest complaint is the customer service. Why is the need for rudeness with some Jamaican restaurants? I easily can spend my money elsewhere or at your competitors down the road. Smarten up and have cashiers that behave professionally. They will either make or break your business. I read some of the other complaints and it is the same as mine. I want to support your business, but I will not support if your staff is unprofessional and rude.
So yesterday I went to Beryl’s Pickering order my food which came up to $36 and noticed in addition their was a tip for a whopping $262.44. Not sure how that happen because I didn’t entered any tip in addition my pin # was nothing close to those numbers. Long story short, the owners son was understanding and tried to refund my money which means waiting there for another hour, while he sorted it out. He eventually had to call the bank to help with the debit card refund and get authorization from the owner. By that time I didn’t feel hungry again I just wanted to get out of there. I asked several times to give me a cash refund but he said no the amount is too big “. The girl at the counter that day was cold as ice she just carried on taking orders. Long story short. Plz check your receipts before leaving any establishment. Beryls or not. Apart from that, I would like to see more friendly staff at Beryls for a change. Everybody don’t have to be so stoned face. A little smile goes along way in customer service.
Nope! No flavor, no soul put into the making of the food! Rice&peas should have peas! Not pink unflavored rice! Goat.all bone! Oxtail? The $$$ they charge for fatty meat? ! Lawd! Never again! I'll spend the gas money and drive into Toronto to get real food, or make it myself!
The Worst! For years I have been hoping that the customer serve at Beryl's restaurant improves. Absolutely worst place in Canada for customer service and honestly I dont think that anyone cares because the competition is limited. Each time we stop ordering for a long while and then we try again after a year. WORST PLACE! Food not bad depending on what is ordered. If I had the time I would show this restaurant what a real niche restaurant should be.
LOVE THIS PLACE! Thursdays and Saturdays remain my fave days! The fried chicken OMG! STEW PEAS AND RICE like my Mommas! Staff interact well with each other and customer satisfaction is excellent. Thanks to Teddy and his team for feeding us during the pandemic and remaining a great staple in the Durham community
The jerk pork, festivals, roti, and oxtail gravy are all consistently delicious items.
What brings this restaurant down is the lack of availability of listed menu items. The festivals, while delicious, are almost never available. I have tried on multiple occasions to order ackee & salt fish, yet despite it being clearly listed on the menu as a Wednesday feature, I have not once been able to try it as it is always unavailable.
It's also very annoying that people are unable to call and make orders ahead of time.
I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas with extra gravy. When I got the meal and hoped into my vehicle a staff member ran out and said that was the wrong meal. She then took this back and went in. Then she came back out with another bag and gave that to me. I got home and opened it to find hardly any gravy with my meal. I couldn't finish my meal since it was too dry for me. The flavour was good but couldn't finish it.
Not sure if it was just the day I ordered or it’s like that every time, but had me a terrible experience at this restaurant. Got the curry goat and the rice was over cooked and all sticky and too top it off it was all cold by the time I got home (I live two blocks down the road btw) and I was in my car not walking so there’s no excuse to pay almost 20$ for a cold and flavorless meal. Never set foot in this spot if it’s always like that.
I purchased some red peas soup with pigtail on Wednesday (Sep 15) and it was very much watered down. I know this for a fact because I had purchased a small soup earlier in the day and 5 hours later. I am not only disappointed but I feel discounted.
Ms. Beryl this is not my first negative experience, I just refused to write a negative review because we are all hoping for everyone to succeed. I am asking you to please speak with whom ever is in charge of the kitchen at this location to stop watering down the food when it runs out.
On Thursday Sep 02,2021 I purchased some stewed peas, it was late afternoon and the gravy was very thin and runny. I could tell it was watered down because it was tasteless, thin and had that certain look.
I have been buying your food from the start at your other location and have always been satisfied. My negative experience at your Pickering location is not un-usual, I am only finding the time now to do something about it. Please get involved and turn this situation around. Thanks
Beryl’s Pepper Pot please update the ordering system with Uber. If I walk in and can purchase leg quarters and oxtail or curry goat by itself in a small medium or large cup am expecting if am unable to do a walk in I should be able to go in the Uber app and place my order for same. I don’t eat rice but I do love you jerk chicken and oxtail. Please make it easier for us who are willing to just purchase your tasty meat. Thanks
Fantastic take-out for Mom's day! Jerk chicken and jerk pork dishes were awesome. The spicey gravy is a must for those who want to kick it up a notch! The jerk chicken sweet potato fries poutine was a hit. The best thing was the plantain though, best ever, deliciously sweet cooked to perfection.
Zero supervision on who's entering in and who's going out. People are lining up for 40 minutes and then there are people who say they've ordered online but then still waiting inside for 20 minutes, making people lining outside to wait even more since there's a limit. They've a huge space with two entrances but still no separate spot for pickup and ubereats. Never going back!
Ordered 2 orders of the Jerk chicken. Both orders of the Chicken was dry and old you could taste that it was reheated from the day before. Will not be returning.
Reading some reviews on here. Seems a true disconnect between customer service and communication, checking take out orders and container lids with spilling, expectation levels, food tastes, supporting black businesses during pandemic. My Grandmother always told me "If you can't say nothing Positive, don't say it at all" Perhaps a thought that negative statements says more about you.
Food is good but the front counter help is very rude and if the food wasn't good my family and I would never buy from either locations.
There have been 2 separate occasions I've waited 10 min to order and the front desk staff totally ignored me and would give me dirty looks and continued to take other customers orders who just walked in.both times I've walked out.
This time i ordered online and was told it would be ready ar a certain time and got there 15 minutes from the time it said and it still wasn't ready. The girl at the front was again very rude and forgot items in the order. I had to go back and get them and she wasn't overally thrilled to have to give me my missing items. I spent over $60 and even if I spent $5 I'd expect to be treated much better.
Ajax location is so much more friendlier I will not be going back or recommending the Pickering location again which is a shame because I live 5 min away from it and it's open much later.
OMG the oxtail is delicious. First time being here and my fiancé suggested it. And I will for sure be back. The meat fell off the bone. Service was quick as well
Okay why you guys always get my orderwrong? Smh plus today I got stew chicken I asked for white rice I got rice and peas ok whatever but No potatoes no carrots barely any chicken and like no grevy I ordered a large just a lot of rice I paid all this money too.
Ordered the CHICKEN ROTI for lunch it was delicious! Seasoning was done to perfection, first time customer I’m very pleased I’ll try oxtail my coworker recommended next time. Can’t wait to order again from Beryl’s delicious pepper pot.
Honeslty, I want to give them 5 stars because the food is consistently good. Literally ordered here every Friday for my work place, and every single time I have to wait - no matter how far in advance I order. Lack of customer service and attentiveness is the reason I will no longer be coming here or recommending the place.
This restaurant is certainly one of the coolest restaurants in the area. Every time I come to this place I am very satisfied. They hold their high standard service and the topmost level of meals they offer. You always win with this restaurant. Highly recommended.
Definitely an amazing spot to eat. Drove all the way from Aurora for the Jerk chicken tacos! Only warning is to show up 1hr before they close because the kitchen closes early. Thank you so much to Shenice and Teddy for letting us order even though it was a little bit after the kitchen closed!
What a horrible experience. Not friendly at all. I called in my order for pick up but once I got there the service was horrible. Overpriced food for average taste. Also, customer service was super unfriendly and rude. From that experience, I will not purchase food from there again. Also word of mouth. Not ok. Time for new staff. It will make a huge difference to greet people with a friendly tone. Nothing over the top but just be friendly. At least say hello. Smile. They seemed so miserable. This was not the first time, it did happen many times before. Too bad.
Not a fan of the customer service. Everytime i walked in this establishment.i never get a hello, a smile, anything. You ask them a question and they reply with a dry answer. You ask for extra gravy and you either a response saying they dont have alot of gravy or they say ikay and you get ur food looking dry.
Food is good.no doubt about that. But their proces is a bit ridiculous. Example.a large stew peas (pigs tail) - their container which you normally get a soup in was $25.25 freaking dollars. Im sorry its not worthy $25 in that container. They need to come correct with their prices.
Great satisfying food, lots of choices, excellent modern decoy.you can take out our eat your meal at the restaurant, not a lot of seating but adequate, clean bathrooms, friendly staff with good service.
The food is usually pretty good at Beryl's, flavourful. The huge turn off from going there is the terrible attitudes of the staff, you shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable to ask a question in a place that you are spending your money. Without customers their business would not thrive. You dare not ask for a lot of gravy, you don't even get a response. The prices are not exactly the best. They don't seem to be customer service oriented as the cashiers tend to give people attitude and the staff in the back just look unhappy when they put the food through the little window. I have encountered 2 friendly people there whom are not always there. Having friendly, helpful staff represent your business, makes all the difference.
Had a curry goat and the flavour was spot on. Even the side dishes of beans and rice, and steamed vegetables were good. Homemade ginger beer was excellent. One star deduction for having a fairly small portion of curry goat considering most of it was bones. The waitress was very friendly and I'd be happy to go back again.
The food is okay but nothing special. Came for takeout, the servers were not very friendly. They looked like they didn’t want to be there. Ordered their jerk chicken and rice. Thought it would be fast since this what they are known for, the order took for ever. The staff don’t seem to care about the customers.
Food is amazing. Service is soooo bad. The women are all rude. Friends come up to the window, right past the ppl waiting in line and yell their orders to their friends in the kitchen. I've seen this happen multiple times, not just a one off.
Take out is the more popular side of the place. It seems to me each time I go there. There was a line up for a few minutes before I order.business is good. Cashier was pleasant and courteous. I ordered large oxtail with rice and peas, medium goat soup (not sure how to write "manish" water), And boneless goat roti. The soup and the roti were my favorites. The reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 are:
1) I find the oxtail too salty this time for my taste. I've sat in the dining room and had oxtail there before at friend's birthday dinner it was better then.
2) Also, I've asked for the rice and peas to be in separate containers which was done but there was a added fee for it and I was not told. I paid for the food and looked at the bill and there was a " separate container" fee. I wouldn't mind paying it; be upfront with it.
A awesome location for especially West Indian cuisine, nice, classy spot to enjoy a fantastic meal anytime of the day, the best Pepper Pot & Red Peas soup, great, friendly service
The food here is extremely delicious. Especially their Fried Chicken - it's to die for. Also try their crowfoot (cow heel) dish and their Red wine Pea Soup.it'll leave your mouth watering
Enjoy Beryl's regularly. They have one of the best Jerk Pork dinners in the city. I normally just order the 1/2 lbs or 1 lbs on the side of another meal. Really recommend trying the pork! Everything else is good, but I keep going back for the Jerk Pork!
