Best Western Swan Castle Inn

I just checked and this hotel has a 2 star rating on Google. If '2 star hotel' is how this Best Western is being classified, it's by far the nicest 2 star hotel I've stayed in. Rooms are spacious, clean, properly laid out. Staff are always available but not intrusive in any way. Providing a batch of fresh towels and toiletries outside the door without ever having to ask. Just leave your used towels outside your door and they magically get swapped for clean ones. Delicious free breakfast with plenty of options to choose from. Clean food area and 3 machines, one dispensing fresh orange juice, one dispensing the best vanilla yogurt you've ever had and the third one which has so many choices of coffee/latte/cappuccino and Expresso flavors are left available and accessible to customers around the clock. I know there was a crew of about 40 railroaders staying there, working overnights, I imagine those machines kept at least a few of them nourished and hydrated for work!

I highly recommend this hotel and suspect the rating to be a star short from what it merits. This might have something to do with there being many many motels and hotels to choose from in Cochrane, Ontario.

First off, I am a Gold Member of Best Western. My stay was four nights. Other than the room, this was a disastrous stay, 99% due to the staff. All lazy, opinionated and rude. One could not explain the $50 git card offer for staying over two nights. Another was basically a mute. It was like pulling teeth to get a word out of him. Last but not least, on the last night I asked for the Fitness Room to be opened at approximately 6: 30pm (BTW - Hours for the fitness room were 4pm - 10pm and it was closed 24/7 unless you called or went to front desk to open it) This man did not honor my request two times. On the 3rd time I incidentally met him at the fitness room. He explained it would lock automatically when I left the room (which I prefer to do my workouts in segments, taking breaks between each machine exercise) because it was policy. BS reason was safety for children in the hotel. The other staff had no problem opening it with a door stopper. My frustration had been building all week, and I let this guy know what I thought of the entire staff including himself. I was leaving in the morning, and I have absolutely no regrets for my actions. On a side note not pertaining to the staff, my A/C was very noisy. I called them twice. They said Maintenance would come look at the unit. That never happened. I gave up. I have been very loyal to this Hotel Chain for many years (I travel frequently for my job). I will be taking this complaint to Corporate next.

TV didn't work. Toilet broke. Reservation said in room fireplace, no fireplace. Would not stay here again

I always stay here when I take the train to and from Moosonee. Great place.
