Bier Markt

We visit annually with our son when he's home for a visit from the West Coast and always enjoy the Schnitzel. Last night, January 12, we had one of the most exceptional visits with Val as our server. We were super impressed with her knowledge of beer. She was also very engaging. The food was also exceptional. Thanks Val for a great experience and Beir Markt for another great family night out.

My server, Ellison, was courteous and very helpful when I was unsure of what to order. If you are looking for where the food and the clientele are in abundance, this is the place for you!

Bier Markt came in clutch to save our New Year's Eve! Had a lovely time. Great selection of drinks, great atmosphere. Will definitely be back soon!

The food:
Pretty good. Ordered a burger. The burger was juicy and flavorful.

The establishment: The best part. It's beautiful and has a nice ambiance. Crowd is older.

EXCEPTIONAL service by waiter Bhanu who had all of the knowledge about the menu items, food and beverage alike!

It was such a great experience. Bhanu was a great server and his service was on the point.

We had a corporate event on the patio. Our servers Bri and Val where amazing. Were upbeat, worked tirelessly to serve big group and were very accommodating as group ended up being bigger then reserved. Had a fun evening. Will be booking again next year.

I am familiar with this location, been here many times and it never really disappoints, great selection for beer and food.

Overall a solid spot on sparks Street, a road that needs much more love these days.

First time in Ottawa and Sarah, our waitress, was over the top, super nice to us. Thank you for your service and thank you for making us feel welcomed! The food was delicious. Alfredo & Mario (from USA).

Great service, a bit pricey, but nice atmosphere. Difficult to locate affordable parking. Overall, I would go back.

What a great establishment any time of the year. Beer selection is unrivaled, food has always been above par and service on any given day is excellent. Highly recommend for medium to higher priced dining, as well the adapted the patio to accommodate weather for srping, summer and fall.

Stopped by for a quick drink and very impressed by the staff knowledge of beer and their friendly approach

Came here for lunch in the beginning of September. Me and my wife were not allowed to go to our table because of very scary covid. So 5 seconds waking without a mask to our table on a patio with no one around was a huge problem. But the menus were so dirty from previous customers and were not cleaned or sanitized for long time and to them it wasn’t an issue at all. If you have such dirty menus what your kitchen looks like? How clean it is? I can imagine now. Avoid this place. Chances to get sick or get food poisoning there are high.

Place wasn’t bad. Food was good. The server was horrible. She was very rude. We seemed to be a burden on her. The only time she was nice to us. Was when we were paying. Probably for a big tip. Which she didn’t get.

What even is this? 60 dollars for this? Both salads were hot and this sandwich is not all that like your advertised photos. It is not good. By any means.

I've been visiting this location for the last 12 years and it has been a staple in my trips. The location is excellent, the food is classic pub food, the service is always with a smile and the drinks never disappoint.

Visiting from Toronto, and this place caught our eye. The gorgeous patio was beautiful at night. The fish / chips wasn’t amazing, but my partner had a burger and it was delicious. Service was a bit slow and I never got my refill, but the restaurant was also busy so I totally understand if it slipped the waitresses mind. I think we would possibly check it out again on our next visit.

My wife and I had a fantastic dining experience here- the food and beer was delicious, and the service was excellent.
We had the poutine, Brewhouse burger, and Guac chicken sandwich. My favourite was the Brewhouse, my wife simply loved all of it.

Have been here many times. The food is decent. They have some happy hour specials but nothing great. They do have a great selection of beer that has been significantly reduced likely due to covid. It is still pretty good and they have a good mix of local craft brews and international options. They have a nice patio and service is generally very good.
The burgers are decent, schnitzel is huge and I think too much for most people to finish, and pizza is pretty good too.

Went for lunch with a friend, on their patio and had a great experience. She had the tuna bowl and I had the Chicken Chimmichurri Salad, both very good! The service was great.
Returned today (Tuesday) with a group of 5, and we couldn't sit on the patio - something to do with liquor licence? It wasn't that busy inside, 2 tables, but service was very slow. We all had burgers which were good. The upgrade to a poutine for $3.50 (?) is a joke - it was so small.
Very disappointed this second time around.

We got seats indoors immediately, service was attentive and swift, atmosphere was great and the beer chilled and tasty.

The waitress was not wrong, this drink barely tasted like pineapple/lavender and so much like alcool. It was still good but so strong.
Staff was nice.

The bartender working around 4pm Sunday August 1st provided excellent service to my friends and I. The food was excellent too, especially the duck wings. Will definitely be back

Service was terrible. Coffee spiled and waitress did not care even to bring napkins to clean it. Food was ok, but hope you are not very hungry when you get there. It took them hour to bring it. Will never go back to this place.

Went out last Thursday after work with my wife and three teenage sons (16yrs, 16yrs, and 18 yrs.good eaters) and were all looking forward to going dinner on the Bier Market patio. We walked in past several busy patios on Sparks Street, and when we arrived at the Bier Market we were greeting by the hostess who immediately told is they could only seat tables of four; and offered to split us up into an table of 2 and another table of 3 I immediately thought it was a covid protocol.which didn't make sense cuz we were from the same household. When I enquired further with the hostess she immediate invited us to go to another restaurant and see if the would seat 5 at a table. So we did. Our boys were disappointed about the Bier Market experience and when we talked about it over dinner at the nearby restaurant they all agreed we won't bother trying to Bier Market again.

First of all I want to say that the service and experience was very good. I'm just a little dissatisfied with the food I had. For something to be a "signature" dish usually means "this is our specialty and we have mastered it". Well the fish and chips were in fact we're the opposite. The batter was done perfectly. Super crispy and tender fish on the inside, but taste? That's the thing, there wasn't any taste. It tasted very watery. The house tartar sauce was underwhelming as well.

Other than the underwhelming fish and chips I had a pleasurable experience.

I guess only the word TERRIBLE would explain the entire experience in the Bier Markt.

Let's start from the beginning:
- the waitresses and the host lady a.k. A.wanna be Victoria Secret models has nothing but a bad attitude and manners. As a face to the restaurant/bar they've created bad taste at the very beginning. Horrible ttansactional relationship with nothing but bad attitude.

Next - the food. Omg. I know that Canada Day was 3 days ago but Jesus Christ. The fries were probably made last Canada Day and were warmed up once a week until we arrived. I thought - let me order a coffee. The wanna be model that was serving us said that there is no espresso as it was all spent on Canada Day. Wait what? Ok I said - can we order filter coffee? She granted our wish and 15 min after came and gave me a spilled coffee, so much spilled that the base was no longer having any space available.

Next - we ordered a cranberry juice for my little one and pineapple ninja mojito. I think there was 1/2 inch of cranberry and everything else was ice. Buy the best of all was when I got the mojito with a straw smaller than the glass.

And the prices. Omfg. $20-25 for a salad, $25 for a burger. They are making money just from a location perspective, everything else is simply horrible. I am hoping this will help you make a.wise decision and avoid the place even though the patio and location is nice.

One of the few spots that carries my favorite Belgian beers! Also recommend the duck wings!

Check out the patio in the summer, as its always busy and in a good central location with parliament only a few blocks away.

Called in a order of meat and cheese board, duck wings and seared tuna. Service was friendly and fast. But that is where the good times stop.

Duck wings were burnt to a crisp, one of the Meats on the board had gone bad. Pretty much turned us off of the whole thing.

It's to bad, normally the food is amazing here.

Love this place. Often a noon time destination for a quick drink and a snack. Love the duck wings! Burgers are solid as well. I would avoid their 17$ sandwiches, they leave a lot to desire.

Great location by the Parliament. Nice ambience, great service. Sampled different beers. The fish and chips was delicious and the chicken schnitzel too. We also enjoyed the duck wings - a little chewy but the taste was good!

This is a cool and hip place to hang out in the city after work or on a Friday night. The food was good but lots of pork, which I dont eat. The service was ok it was probably because they were busy! But overall it was nice and a great place to meet up with friends

This is a good place for a quick bite or to hang out with friends and watch the game. The food is good and the services is top notch. The beer selection had something for any taste. The food menu has a good mix for a light appetite or something more to keep you going. The Bier Market is one of my go to places when I come to Ottawa.

I forget how much of a good time I always have here. The entertainment on the stage, the vast selection of beers, the good music! The menu is a bit more expensive than similar bars, but the experience more than makes up for it!

We decided to eat at the Bier Markt as you can redeem Scene Points there. This is a beautiful looking restaurant that was reasonably busy for dinner on a Monday evening. My party ordered the Big Schnit Chicken, the Gouda Dip and the Chicken ABT 2.0. The plates came with generous side of fries and all our meals were quite tasty. Obviously the beer list is extensive, but i ordered the Hard Root Beer Float which came with Dusty Boots Root Beer, a shot of Forty Barrel Whisky, vanilla ice cream and a chocolate brownie - mm mmm good. In addition, there were beer and wine specials (10 oz for $10).

Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food was delivered quickly. With the redemption of the Scene points and the drink specials, our evening was ridiculously cheap. I would definitely recommend the Bier Markt though I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to go down town to go there (traffic, parking, yadda, yadda yadda). However, if you're in the neighbourhood, its worth a visit.

Good food and drink. None of the staff seemed particularly happy to be there however. We had a party of 6 and had to wait to be seated outside. The first round of drinks took ages to sort and finally we were seated at picnic style tables on the patio. The food was decent and once we got seated things were okay.

Tolles Restaurant! Uns hat es so gut geschmeckt, dass wir an 2 Tagen hintereinander dort essen waren! Unsere zwei Bedienungen waren sehr Warenkundig und konnten gut bis sehr gut beraten, waren aufmerksam ohne aufdringlich zu sein und auf zack! Es gibt 150 Biere und vieles mehr zur Auswahl! Die Toiletten haben europäischen Standard und sind sehr sauber! Einzig die junge Dame am Empfang, ist völlig ohne Emotionen, spricht auch nichts und passt nicht wirklich zum super netten Team!
Ansonsten 100 Prozent zu empfehlen!

Good beer selection. Prices are slightly higher than expected. Tip: always have a backup order when trying to purchase lesser known beers (lambics, geuzes, etc) since they not always have a lot on site.

This place is kind hidden a few streets down from the Parliament, but it is definitely worth the journey if you want to enjoy an authentic Chicken Schnitzel with gravy, mashed potatoes and an amazing selection of great tasting beer. They also have a large, nicely fenced, outdoor terrace for those fun in the sun days. Will definitely come back for another Schnitzel!

Great selection of beers.okay service with a horrible and unprofessional manager. I just can't believe a person like that manages the establishment such as Bier Mart. I've traveled to many countries and have visited many establishments.had some bad experience at times but never like I did with the manager in question.rude and arrogant.the worst two things any service manager can have.such a shame

Very wide range of beer selection. My favorite so far is the Millstreet organic beer. 5 stars for beer!
The food is pretty decent. 3 stars for food.
Price is in the range of 30$ for one person

Food was great and service was even better. We made a mistake in our order and the waitress corrected it without hesitation. Will definitely be back.

They have a wide selection of good food and drinks! The location is very tidy and well kept. Wait times for food and drinks are very short. Servers are nice and welcoming. This is a great location for those who take public transport as it is downtown near the transit way!

Food is great but limited choice. Horrible long service and plates came out fifteen minutes apart, after waiting 45 minutes already. Both kitchen and waitress failed to deliver proper service but it was decent food

The host out front was doing a great job but it ended there. Inattentive server, pizza was pretty bad for $18, and dirty table/menu. Icing on the cake was smashed glass all over the men’s toilets.

Avoid, if you can.

La serveuse n'était pas souriante voire même de mauvaise humeur ce qui m'a dérangé, car son service était désagréable, quand j'ai demandé une boisson, j'ai décidé de prendre un Pepsi. Quand je l'ai reçu, le verre était bourré de glaçons et avec mon ami, on a décidé de les enlever. Au final, il nous restait presque plus rien à boire, car les glaçons exagérés prenaient tout le volume. J'ai demandé à la serveuse d'enlever les glaçons de mon ami (ce qu'ils ont fait), mais à la place de mettre du Pepsi pour remplacer le vide, ils ont rajouté de l'eau ce qui lui donnait un goût pas très ressemblant à une vrai boisson gazeuse. Finalement, je voulais un dessert, car j'avais mangé dans un restaurant avant d'aller dans ce bar. Après avoir pris le gâteau au chocolat, il n'était pas chaud et il goûtait le surgelé. Je déconseille fortement de prendre quelque chose autre que de la bière. Un vrai bar est capable de servir de la bonne nourriture à coté de son alcool.

A wonderful place. The place is neat & clean. The food is very impressive. The staff is really cool. The service is average. Obviously they can improve themselves.

The pricing, as you would expect, is a bit higher, but the beer selection and collaborative brews (we tried a pint of the Back to the Future 2 collab w/ Big Rig brewery) are awesome.

For dinner, I tried the 2 piece cod and chips which was quite tasty. I believe it was around $18, which isn't too expensive for that area, and they were generous with their fry portions. I'm all about portion size. The more you feed me, the happier I become.
