After getting quotes from 2 other similar companies, it was obvious immediately that Big Steel Box was more organized, professional and friendly. I chose them and was very impressed with every part of the process. The office staff was professional and accommodating when I needed to adjust my dates. The box was delivered by a very skilled driver who worked very carefully to put my box exactly where I wanted it and it was a tight squeeze because I have a shared driveway. The box was clean and very secure. I got “heads up” calls when delivery or pickup was in a half an hour, which was helpful. Every part of the experience with Big Steel Box was excellent. I would highly recommend them.

Big Steel Box Review by Rick Gerhart

The move was from Kitchener Ontario to Ladymith B. C.on Victoria Island.
The final bill was $10,250 which includes last minute help required in Ladysmith to finalize the delivery.
All the administration, employees and subcontractors of BSB were pretty nice and polite to interact with.

The big question is how did the move go? Well not as expected. The BSB arrived in Kitchener & was picked up two weeks later as expected. The unit was clean and in good condition inside and out with only a few signs of previous use. Things only started to go south in BC. The container arrived early at the depo just 5 klm from our new residence in Ladysmith, but due to a lift break down at the depo, the delivery of the container was delayed, management at the depo offered to cover a motel stay until the problem was rectified, my wife and I didn’t feel that was necessary, but would appreciate a little compensation at the end. One problem leading to another we camped out in an empty house for about a week. Finally after long weekends and statutory holidays the container arrived but not for long!

More bad news… the container could not be unloaded because the driver felt the ground was not level enough for a safe delivery and it could not be left on the side of the road as we did not have a permit.

Attempt #2 took a weekend and couple days more… we hired a crew to deliver, unload and return the container all in about 4 hours. This crew had a small more maneuverable truck and stated they could have left the container first time around. Well maybe, we will never know!

All the drivers we met where subcontractors and not employees of BSB so playing the safety card is always a good bet. Would I do it again? Do I have anything worth $10,250 or should I have spent another $2000 and had it moved? Or would that brought surprises of its own? Some how selling everything and starting clean sounds pretty appealing. Did we receive any compensation because of the broken lift truck? Not yet!

Would I use Big Steel Box again? YES

Great company, other than the fact of being billed a whole month for 8 days. Seems ridiculous to me to pay over 200$ for 8 days plus the 250 for delivery, their policy is ridiculous.

When dealing with the people at Big Steel Box they were always helpful and responded quickly to my requests. They were always on time. They dropped off the box for filling when they said they would, and it was shipped and dropped at my new place exactly when they said it would be there. I would not hesitate to use them again.

We have just moved across the country from Ontario to British Columbia. The process was made easier in that Big Steel Box was one of the only transportation companies that could move our house contents from our home province to BC, deliver on time, if not ahead of time, and with no casualties. Staff were knowledgeable, accommodating, flexible and professional. Would definitely use them again. Thank you Big Steel Box.

Next to new container which was very clean and convenient. Tamper proof locking system, double barn doors and hooks on top and bottom of container to secure your stuff. It took the container 12 days to arrive with expedited delivery (Kitchener/Waterloo, ON to Calgary, AB). If you are able to load your belongings yourself, a pile of money can be saved with Big Steel Box versus their complete move competition.

Stay away from this company. I am a handicapped stay at home dad and had labourers on
hand to unload my belongings on Monday as delivery was scheduled. Got a call Monday afternoon to inform me that my bin was lost and they had no idea where it was. Thank god I took a picture of the bin number before it originally left my old house. Fast forward to Wednesday afternoon and they found my bin in a new subdivision in a driveway only it wasn’t fast forward for me sleepless nights, stress and worry if I would ever see my lifelong belongings again. How could they be so careless with something of this nature. Wednesday afternoon noon they said we are closed tomorrow but will make a special trip to deliver your bin on Thursday as though they we doing me some kind of a favour. No apology and or offer of compensation for what they put me and my family through. Zero stars

Very smooth process from beginning to end. Container was clean. Arrived and departed on schedule. Great customer service. Good communication from them. We used a 20 foot container to move from ON to BC. No issues at all. Highly recommended for long distance moves. We will use them again for any moving needs.

I dealt with Paul. He was amazing and came through when I was really stuck for a shipping solution due to a last minute move.

Out of 5 quotes BigSteelBox was the lowest.only a few dollars difference with the 2nd lowest and significantly better than the highest. BUT they provide a 20' container compared to 16' from the competitors. That's 25% more storage space. So they were definitely the best value. The service was top notch too. Staff and drivers were friendly and professional. They delivered right on time and dropped the container with pinpoint accuracy. The pick up was even more impressive as a bigger truck was required for the loaded container. Despite tight quarters and a heavy load, the driver took his time and worked some magic. I highly recommend BigSteelBox for on-site container service.

The value added and ease of moving by using this service is second to none. The ease of loading and unloading a storage box vs.having to walk up and down a cube van ramp is worth the extra money alone!

This is a terrific service. The box arrived on time, in beautiful condition and is handled with expert precision.
Nobody tries to jam you with loads of extra insurance or additional charges like so many other outfits.
We stuffed that box like sardines in a can, it was 17,000 pounds when fully loaded.
Box held up perfectly, nothing buckled or bent. 7,000 lbs overweight didn't cause a huge ordeal, just a minimal price change on a 4300 klm cross country move, brilliant.
I highly recommend this service, other companies should take note.

The convenience of being able to load at our own pace so we could take our time and pack with care took a lot of the stress out of the move. Then also being able to unload at our own pace also was really nice. This is the only way to move.

Excellent service. I was a little confused by their logistics having been a truck driver for 38 years, but hey, that's their issue and if it doesn't cost me extra then have at it. That being said, the price was more than competitive and I am pretty tight with a dime.

The driver's were great and professional. I was impressed with their skills.

Our move had a few steps. Drop off the box. Take it to their yard at my convenience. Then deliver it to a brand new "ungooglable" address on Lake Huron above Goderich. They had no difficulty.

Quick and secure, my container got to Aberta faster than expected. Customer Service is paramount, Guys in Kitchener are very good at what they do. Very accommodating, gave me resolution to my overweight container that is very reasonable. Charlie from Edmonton side is a PRO and is very nice and very respectful person. Combine Ayr and Edmonton crew are commended for their excellent service. Don't do it any other way if you have to go long distance. Thank You!

We had a pretty good experience at BigSteelBox. We were using the service to store our belongings in between moves. The booking was easy, and loading the box at our apartment was super convenient. Took away 1 star because we had to move in on Sep 1 which was a Sunday (BigSteelBox isn’t open) meaning that instead of unloading the box at our new apartment, we had to take a UHaul to their yard to get our stuff and essentially move it twice. They made this process quick and easy for us, but it was still less than desirable. Also, we were mistakenly billed twice, but once I pointed this out it was corrected quickly.

We truly could not run our company without you - your staff at Big Steel Box has been amazing in all the cities we store with you! Thank you!

I never give a full 5 star rating because there is always room for improvement but our experience with bigsteelbox was very close, excellent customer service, the box was delivered on time, picked up on time and again the same excellent service when we arrived at our destination, thanks bigsteelbox for making our move so easy & worry free.
