We had a large group for a special occasion and the wait staff were excellent with us. Food was great too.

Amazing lunch with a friend! The sandwich and soup combo was delicious! One of the best club sandwiches I've ever had. The ingredients were fresh, authentic, and so tasty!

I will be back again!

Excellent! We found them prior to driving to Kingston on a gluten-free selection app, since we have a celiac issue. Their promise of a real awareness of gluten issues was bang on, and the fish and chips may have been the best we have had regardless of the gluten. The service was friendly, and the bartender kept us well entertained. We will be going back for sure!

We got a table on the patio. At first we were skeptical since it was quite cold out but to our surprise they had a whole set up with a bubble covering us and our table along with heated lamps inside. It was a completely different atmosphere from inside the restaurant we were the only table outside and it was really nice to be able to have a conversation without having to raise our voices to hear each other. Our server was amazing and took care of us very well and the food was very good especially the mac and cheese and the duck poutine, I will definitely come back next winter for the ambiance, food and of course the bubble. I would highly recommend this spot if you like a quiet night to yourselves with good food and great privacy.

Great Bistro pub food, had the tavern burger with fries and aioli, was delicious, service was very friendly, server made a great beer suggestion, cool vibe. Will definitely be back.

Atmosphere and food were very good, as was the drink selection. The kitchen was quite slow, however.

Didnt even get food. The waitress was completely inattentive. It took her 20 mins to bring me my drink and then we never saw her again. Left to go get food somewhere else.

Cocktails were excellent. Loved the lights and coziness. The kitchen was out of the dish I wanted but these things happen. The server was very friendly and attentive. A very good overall experience.

It's been a while since the last visit but this place is still fantastic. The service was awesome, the mojitos gorgeous, the duck confit and the pickerel were perfection. The only problem was that the food was so good, we stopped talking and just made 'mmmm hmmm mmmm ymmmm' sounds. Not a bad way to spend an evening!

The first time we went to Black Dog, it was lovely - the food was great, the service was great and polite. I don't know what happened last time.

I made a reservation 3 weeks in advance and had to basically beg the hostess to sit at a booth instead of a table by the kitchen (if I knew that I had to request a booth in advance, I would have, but I figured people with reservation would get better seating). It took about 40mins to get drinks and was impossible to hunt down the waitress. The margarita didn't have enough sour-ness or sweetness and the old-fashioned was too sweet. The table never got cleared of all the empty glasses and the waitress seemed like everything we asked her to do was a chore. Now for the food - the beefeater sandwich was very fatty and the poutine's sauce (gravy?) seemed like beef broth with oil. There was also no thought behind the brie put into it - it was literally chunks of grocery store brie cut up.

We also tried 4 out of 5 desserts on the menu - they were VERY similar and came in jars? What kind of a "tart" comes in a jar? It's impossible to get the crust out and none of it had any taste other than sweet vanilla.

I wanted this place to be a place where we keep coming back because our first experience was so lovely, but after this fiasco we'll go elsewhere.

The steak was very disappointing, we asked for medium to well done, and it was anything but. Very pink-red. It was cooked more after we complained, but still disappointing, still pink. The bill was adjusted down. We decided not to give a tip, and that was not appreciated. We were somewhat disappointed with our experience.

Sadly, the food just wasn’t that great. Very overpriced. (3 cocktails, two lunch dishes, no appetizers or desserts - came to over $100.)

This was our first time at Black Dog, I used to come here alot when it was Chien Noir. Our server Rebecca was charming and attentive and gave great recommendations on the food. She knew the menu well and offered suggestions and was gracious and elegant in her demeanour. The food was hot, delicious and came at the right time - not too fast but no lags. The only criticism was the quality of the strip loin - others would have been fine with it but I do not like fat. They comped my wine in exchange for the less than perfect steak. I will definitely will be back and will recommend it for others. Thank you for making our experience so enjoyable.

We were very disappointed in the restaurant. Probably if you just want a hamburger, it is fine, but we went for dinner. The menu is very limited. I do not know why but our order took forever. We were about the third guests to be seated. We were right by the kitchen and kept seeing orders being filled. However, they looked like mostly hamburgers and fries. I ordered onion soup, there were practically more crotons than soup. I also ordered a Caeser Salad with shrimp and no croutons, it came with a lot of croutons on it, enough that they filled an entire small plate. The server offered to return it, but it took so long to get in the first place, I did not dare return it. My husband had Oysters, which were fine and for his main course Steak and French fries.the French fries were good the steak was terrible. For $47, the steak should have been much better. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

Menu with lots of choices and they had no problem customizing some of the dishes. Amazing service from the start to finish. We also managed to get a table for 6 on Thursday night. Great experience

I ordered the escargot, steak tartar, fried calamari and the mussles and it was espectacular.
Make a reservation, this place is very popular and you need one.

Absolutely loved it! Our visitors from out-of-town were very impressed, the food was beyond delicious and our server went out of her way to ensure we had a great experience. Can't wait to go back! P.s. The mushroom toast might be the best choice you ever make!

We have never been to Black Dog Tavern, so I wanted to go yesterday Sept 2, for my Birthday. When we walked in, I was trying to talk to the lady and she said sorry I have a million things on my mind, so was paying very little attention to us. I said we would like to sit on the patio, the lady said the kitchen is down right now so can't serve food, handed ME the drink menu and told us to seat ourselves on the patio! The service is very slow even though they only had drinks to serve, due to kitchen being closed. 3 tables on patio sat dirty till we were leaving. When we finally got served I ordered a Margarita and my husband ordered a Martini. We waited 15-20 minutes and no drinks came out. Then our waitress Sabrina comes out to retake our order and thought my husband had originally ordered a beer. When our drinks finally came mine was in a tall glass and my drink was Pink with a spring of mint! I told the server this isn't a Margarita, to which she said ohhh yes it is we just don't salt the rim. I said I have never seen a Pink Margarita with Mint in it. The server left after asurring me I had a Margarita hahahahaha. When we got the bill my drink on the bill said Prickly Pear Mojito! Hahahahaha. We paid $41.25 for 2 drinks! And didn't even get my Margarita on my 60th bday hahahahaha.

We had a great server and the food and drinks were fantastic. She let us know about the gluten free fish and chips, which made my wife super happy, only quibble was that it should have denoted that on the menu as well.

A blonde female server was so mean to me on Sunday morning. Had good experience there on Saturday though.

Not the type to write reviews, but whoever is reading this please know that this restaurant is amazing.

The food is excellent, the staff is warm and friendly, and the service was prompt.

100% would visit again.
