Black River Retreat

Everything about our one night stay (winter) was absolutely perfect. Trevor has done such an incredible job building and maintaining this retreat over the years. His passion for creating an intimate and romantic experience for his guests shows - it is obvious that he truly cares so much about creating a wonderful experience for the couples lucky enough to stay here. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone thinking of booking a night or two here - so just do it. It will be unlike anything you've ever done before, I promise you!

My husband and I were just here for our anniversary and we were both in awe. Trevor has built a woodland fairytale oasis. The property is nothing but spectacular. We spent so much time sitting down by the river soaking in the peacefulness and listening to the water. The walking trails on the property were lovely and it was fun reading all the love messages scattered in the trees. The sitting areas with the fire pits were wonderful, especially on crisp fall evenings. We throughly enjoyed the cedar hot tub as well.
The inside of the cabin was so beautifully decorated and the perfect romantic setting. Our room and ensuite bathroom was gorgeous and it was so nice to cuddle up next to the electric fireplace.
We really enjoyed napping in the oversized beanbag chair in the sunroom surrounded by beautiful views.
The dining room was amazing and we felt like royalty. Both breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Trevor is so talented and imaginative with the meals he creates.
Trevor was so accommodating and met every single need we had. His attention to detail is outstanding. Our stay at Black River Retreat exceeded all of our expectations and we can't wait to return.

Thank you Trevor for creating the Black River Retreat. We have made some great memories during our stay. Whether it has been playing darts or Yahtzee in the games area to relaxing around the outdoor fire pit, to the hot tub and of course the lock of love. The most special memory is of your hospitality and the food that has over exceeded our expectations every meal. (The desserts are to die for). This trip has been unforgettable. Until next time.

Everything was perfect. Every single detail was very well done. Great service, great food, romantic and very relaxing. I have no complaints other then I didn’t want to leave. Absolutely amazing place! We stayed for one night after getting married this past weekend and I wish we could have booked two nights. The food was absolutely incredible! This place was so beautiful and romantic. Everything was perfect and we really enjoyed out time there. Trevor is an amazing and very talented host with incredible attention to detail. We had a beautifully presented and very delicious dinner and breakfast prepared by Trevor. We loved the outdoor hut, the hot tub, enjoyed kayaking, and enjoyed playing poker, darts and board games in the saloon. Every room had speakers which was so nice and we were able to play our own music. I highly recommend. We drove four hours and I would totally come back and recommend to my friends and family. I was blown away by the decor and all the woodwork done by the owner. Thank you Trevor for such a beautiful experience!

This place is amazing.beats going to the big cities and fighting thru crowds. It’s nice and quiet and relaxing. Trevor makes you feel comfortable and his food is absolutely at 5 star! We will be back.

This was an amazing experience! My boyfriend and I came here on our babymoon before the arrival of our little one and it was just what we needed. From the special little details (love locks, smores, cedar hot tub.), the beautiful scenery and the hospitality this place is sure to spark romance. The food from the presentation to the flavours was amazing!

The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5, was because unlike stated on the website, we did not have access to both suites. At the end of the day I was soooo looking forward to enjoying the jetted tub but when Trevor left
He locked the door of the other suite: (
Our suite only had a stand up shower and being 8 months pregnant and not having a bathtub at home (due to renovations) I was really looking forward to this.

Other than that, we’ll be back. Definitely booking two nights instead of one next

We really enjoyed our stay. The retreat was private for a romantic getaway. The fine dining was excellent. Trevor does the cooking himself. The decor inside was amazing. You get to enjoy the cedar hot tub alone without worrying about others invading your privacy. It's pretty cool when you put your lock on the chain and throw the key in the pond for everlasting love. There are various places to sit and enjoy the fire pit. We enjoyed the waterfall at the river. It's very relaxing and peaceful! We give it a five star. We are definitely going back. We have even considered bringing another couple to occupy the second suite.

I surprised my wife with a birthday night-away at the Black River Retreat, a first visit for us both. The BRR offered a perfectly relaxing, and not-too-far-but-far-enough getaway from our busy lives in Toronto. The cottage/house is spacious, comfortable, and warm - situated beautifully a stone's throw above the Black River itself. The food was freshly prepared and decadent in taste. The owner & operator, Trevor, has truly put his heart and soul into ensuring a detail-oriented and romantic experience for his couple-guests. We look forward to returning again soon. Recommended.

I don't even know where to start about this place, and the amazing experience you will have by going here. I was looking for a spot to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. I wanted somewhere that would be special, that would incorporate the outdoors, food, and a place you could reconnect to that someone important to you. Well this is the place, Trevor has left no detail uncovered. From the beautifully rustic entrance, to an amazing grand dinning area and the romantic room you get to disappear to at the end of your evening. From the fires stoked & ready to be lite outside to the yummy smelling soaps and shampoos in your shower everything has been thought of. Trevor's professional and personable 5 star service is also something that needs to be highlighted. The food is unreal, and served in the most amazing space. I could just go on and on about this place. We have friends who are booking for April and we are returning in November. You will not be disappointed by going here
