I had a great experience buying my new Argon 18 tri bike from Brown’s. JP was an absolute pleasure to work with from the initial phone conversation ensuring the bike was the right fit for me, right through to the final bike fit. JP clearly has a passion for triathlon and bike fitting and takes pride in making sure you the customer are well taken care of.

I am so happy I found this shop as it is truly a one stop shop for all my triathlon needs.

Expectations exceeded.

Bought some winter cycling shoes there via the website. Size was correct, but the quality/design of the shoe means you can't even get your foot in. No refunds or exchanges. I assume they knew that about the shoes, had them on sale as a result and worked hard to make sure their customers didn't know so they could dump their inventory. Good for them! Bad for me: (Sure won't shop there again.

Look very carefully at the return policy before your order online from there. Basically, don't get your size, color.wrong or chances are you'll be stuck with.

Well, I'm sharing this because I think it's a scam. Imagine that! I just bought a pair of shoes $300.00 discounted from $325.00 and as with any decent reputable store I thought they have an honest return policy.only to learn that if it's discounted, they don't take it back. Doesn't matter the reason. In my case, I just wanted to exchange them to a bigger size since I bought them online, they flat out said no.if that's no a clever way to scam people, I don't know what is.

Worst customer service ever… The sheer disrespectfulness and rudeness is unbelievable, especially that girl over the phone… she knows who she is. They don’t deserve our business cuz they don’t care about their customers. On top of that, they can’t even put a bottle cage properly and initially placed it upside down… how can I then trust my bike was assembled properly. Bike turned out to be a size too small, and not only did they fail to suggest to try it out, take it for a test ride or at least check out the size, they wouldn’t allow me to exchange it for a different size afterwards. That girl over the phone should be fired, not because it wasn’t accepted for an exchange but for the absolute lack of manners and disgusting attitude she displayed

Buyer Beware!

Terrible customer service, owner was rude and did not want to deal with any customers close to closing. Turns off lights while customers are inside store.

Gift cards here are also not honoured. Be aware that gift cards are valid for only 90 days!

Far better bike shops in the area that actually care about customer service and want your business.

Very positive experience. I ordered a Brooks Flyer for my 1935 CCM and not only was the price very competative, it was shipped in a timely manner. They even took the time to include a hand written note thanking me for my purchase. These "Mom & Pop" shops are what make a community alive and worth living in!

Ps.keep places like this alive, don't let Amazon take away our neighbourhoods from us.

I've made two purchases from Brown's this past month. The pricing is fantastic (best in Canada I could find) and the staff is very helpful and willing to go the extra mile.

Very impressed with the super quick turn around time. My purchase was configured and ready for pickup within an hour!

I'm definitely very fortunate to have found this store. You can't go wrong! Shop local:)

Not a great experience unfortunately. Bought a bike during lockdown - 2021 Norco XFR 3 in size SMALL but it ended up being the wrong size. Such a bummer. I tried higher shoes, a different seat (also bought there+helmet+seat+bell) and a lower seat post (that took 2 months to arrive). Unfortunately it's still too big for me to ride. It's in brand new condition as it was given to me.never touched the pavement besides when I picked it up.

I UNDERSTAND they have a NO NOTHING policy - returns, exchanges, etc. However I thought I'd go in and try and have a face to face conversation with a real person after all these months of closed stores/full voicemail boxes/barely email responses - you know what its been like trying to deal with bike stores recently right. I didn't want any money back but just a credit for next season maybe; a future purchase and see if they wanted the bike back as the model/size is still not available anywhere.

All the guy kept saying was, but you bought it 4 months ago. That's our policy. Over and over. Like a robot. But that's the policy. But that's the policy. We don't take returns after 7 days. That's the policy. That's the policy.

I don't know man.if I were the business owner and I was offered back a brand new Norco XFR 3 in perfect condition that I could sell again, in a size that's not available anywhere I'd jump on it! He just needed to think it through a little.perhaps ask to inspect the bike. What's the use of upholding a rule for rule's sake when you're turning away a potentially lifelong customer and breaking a relationship?

After all this time I was hoping to speak to a real person, but unfortunately I ended up speaking to a computer still.

I spent over $1000 there and to them it's nothing. Ah well too bad so sad, see ya. Maybe you'll have a better experience. My advice is try one of your other local shops - one that understands the concept of business and relationship building. Too bad. Posting it on Kijiji now.

It’s long ago I got my squash racket strung here. It was Aug or Sept in 2014. I asked sale’s person to be really careful not to miss the string and he said they were professional and it wouldn’t happen. When I came back to get my racket, I found they missed the first string on top. I asked to restring but the owner said no. And he said it’s wasting string if he cut it and restring. He didn’t say even “sorry” and was really rude. The owner of this place was horrible and doesn’t know what the customer service was. So, I played squash with that stupid stringing and it was cut by around 10th hit. Squash hits happen around the wall a lot and players use the top end part of the racket a lot more. That is the spot the owner missed the string. If the owner now is not the same person as in 2014, I am really sorry.

STAY AWAY! Terrible service, both the lady and her father were very rude and I felt like they just wanted me out of the store. I couldn’t get my basic question answered about how I would know if a new tire would fit on my wheel, which was would my 29’ tire fit on my 29’ wheel and the excuse was that their bike mechanic is away for a week. Then why are you guys running a store that sells bikes if you can’t answer basic question, I know it’s basic because I went to another bike store 5-10 minutes away at Jane and dundas west called newsons bike and skate exchange and the guy at the cash was able to answer my question very easily with respect for me instead of trying to brush me off like browns did. Also wanted to buy a bike pump which is why I ended up here and again the women that was there calling the guy in the back dad was not able to answer my basic questions about there bike pumps and when she asked her dad he couldn’t answer either well he tried but his answer made me more confused and he said it with frustration like I’m not a customer that wants to buy something from you and unfortunately I bought the pump from them and the pump isn’t the kind I really needed because I couldn’t get some actual help from these 2 people that work here or own it I don’t know but it was 100% worst experience I’ve ever had at a bike shop hands down STAY AWAY

Got my first carbon bike from this store. Excellent service from the manager JP. He did a bike fit before releasing the bike to me. Even installed my clipless pedals and cleats to my shoes. Will definitely recommend him for professional bike fit and for great bicycles in their store.

Brown's had amazing service! Needed a rear derailer at a reasonable price. Not only did they have the part available they shipped it right away! Then they actually took a video call to help explain the repair required. Service at its finest. Blown away - Thanks JP!

Wrong temperament for customer service. I booked an appointment for bike repair a month in advance, not knowing that this shop wanted individual visits scheduled for each bike, i had three. There was no instruction on the w-site. My estimate total bill would have been around $700, with parts and labor.to start, upon arrival, I was not greeted at the door by a someone claiming to be a daughter of the owner, not a manager nor CSR nor owner, but his sibling.well, a that was unique.
In a quite aggressive way told me about individual appointments, news I was happy receive for the first time.
I understand that successful business operators, in general, focus on the bottom line and customer service, instead after loosing an argument daughter of the owner shut the door in my face and left not saying anything.
As embarrassing as it is for the owner, may i suggest, division of labor? Daughter should go back to whatever she was doing before and leave the business to professionals, like her papa, bc you are not getting my business.

Recently purchased a MB on line. Had a few questions about accessories, and received a response back in a timely manner. With the lock down, received the bike in the timeline stated after placing the order.
Staff are very friendly and accommodating!
This was my fourth bike purchase from Browns! Very pleased with the service, would recommend Browns as they are competitively priced and are staffed with a great team. Support Local Businesses!

Just an update for the review.

I ordered 2 things online. No news or update status since then, but after several days, I got the package from Canada Post, but one thing is missing. I tried to reach the shop, impossible to have any feedback from them, email, phone, chat on facebook, I tried everything, I can only get auto reply email in the same day.

They got back to me one day later after i emailed them.

I know it's because of covid, the shop has to reduce workers, but i highly suggest a chanel for emergencies and order related thing to answer the client, because when i got the package, there's no checking list in the box at all, it's really confusing. But i am satisfied with their reaction.

Been going to Brown's for years for my squash racquets for the wide selection and great prices. Recently I picked up cycling and their customer service and knowledge was a huge help in helping me choose the right parts for my bike.

Yes, the customer service over the phone was a little rough. However, I received my MTB quicker than expected and it was immaculately put together. This is my second time buying a real MTB, and my experience here compared to where I bought my other one (one of the big 3 brands, on Queen st). Browns has my business for the foreseeable future. The attention to detail with the assembly is what sold me (given how busy bikes shops are now, that is rarer than you’d think from my experience).

Even went back and bought a park tool repair stand for cheaper than I’ve seen anywhere else, and again, order was ready super fast and my questions were answered ASAP via email. Will be back for my future needs.

I’m surprised to see that they have Norco Storm available for my size so I ordered it in the net. The process is seamless and only took 8 days before receiving the pickup confirmation. Not bad. Customer service is ok as well.

I got my MTB from Brown's because they're only few that carry Rocky Mountain brand. I wasn't impressed with the way they put the bike together. I didn't complain but my main issue is their customer service. I emailed them regarding bringing in my bike for service and they said to just come and drop it off. A couple weeks later I go to drop off my bike and they tell me I have to make an appointment to drop it off. I drove from Bowmanvilleand the old man couldn't care less. Not even a sorry for miscommunication, just walked back inside. Also who charges $6 for lubricants for free service, that's a rip off. I took my bike somewhere else and I'll never go back. Strongly suggest not to go there for servicing.

No stock. Sketchy customer service. Probably lost my order and kept my $.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. I purchased (and paid for) a trainer bike in October 2020. I still haven't received it.

It is now end of March 2021 and they claim no shipments have come in but it is still listed for sale on their website with the "next shipment due April 10th! "

At first I was getting regular communication and now only if I email do I get an update. I'm pretty sure they lost my order.

I will never order anything from them ever and would not recommend them to anyone.

I placed an online order over the weekend. The order was shipped out to me the next business day, and arrived quickly. I'm very happy with the amazing deal I got (best price I found anywhere) and the entire order process. Can't wait to use my new power meter!

Brown's really came through for me. I ordered a bike trainer a while back. About a week before it was supposed to arrive I was notified by Brown's that the manufacturer had shipping delays due to COVID and that it would not arrive on time. Browns stepped up and provided me with an amazing alternate and I had a trainer on the date originally promised. Even though the delay was out of their control they rectified it. Amazing!

Great sports shop in Bloor West Village! They have a wide assortment of sporting equipment, apparel.and I was finally able to find women's road cyxling shoes in my size!

The owner was amazing and super helpful. Despite the lockdown, he allowed me to try on (socially distanced of course, and abiding by the guidelines) a couple of pairs of shoes so I could find the right fit.
Great customer service, a little patience and kindness go a long way in times like this.very appreciative!

This is the first time I've purchased from Brown's and it won't be the last. They were clear about waiting times for their products to come in, responsive to questions, and even installed the parts of my order so I was ready to go right out of the box.

I worked with living legend bike fitter JP at Brown's to create my ultimate dream bike. A custom painted De Rosa Merak with SRAM Red AXS! JP worked with me from start to finish, beginning with a proper fitting to ensure the correct frame size was selected. Due to Covid and the global bike component shortage, it took about 3 months. But JP was truly professional and kept me calm during the entire adventure. Patience worked and now I have a pro-level super road bike! I highly recommend paying JP a visit for your next dream bike!

JP is one smart guy. If you want to go to someone who knows what they are doing and what they are saying, he is your guy! They all know what they are doing but I was helped by JP and he was awesome in helping me buy my bike. He was honest and super helpful. I am happy to go back for my service and future upgrades. Ordered a bike online, was than informed later they arent shipping bikes. Emailed back and forth and finally decided to drive the 1.5 hours to pick the bike up first thing as they open up at 9: 30am. Get there and call the and the voice mail says due to the current issues they arent open till 11.
I asked for them to be more flexible as a front line worker, and i could pick it up Monday morning. Was informed they are closed and no one was coming in for that.
Disappointing and waste of time and money. Never spend a dime in this place and ensure others dont as well.

Store had decent entry level mountain bike on sale. Had a couple of questions, so I called in. Spoke to Steve, and noticed a lack of customer service (very monotone voice and short answers). When I went to pick up bike, I wanted to buy bike kick stand and handle bar grips. But Steve wheeled my bike right out of the store. He just looked at me outside the store and didn't offer to bring bike back in so I could buy additional product (Despite asking TWICE). I ended up just leaving
Once home I went for a ride. The derailleur was not properly adjusted and the seat post was not tightened. I ended up scratching the seat post and almost fell as my gears couldn't change. This was 40 MIN AFTER picking up my new bike.
So we brought it back it. Turns out they didn't bother to tune the bike before giving it to me. They just took it out of their inventory from the basement and gave it to me. My spouse even remarked the lack of customer service as there was no friendly greeting or any apologies for the inconvenience. From the time I purchased the bike online to when I picked it up at the store, there was ample time for a final bike tune up.
Once we returned the bike to the store it only took the technician less than 10 min to fix it. You would expect a bike to be in full working order so you can ride them with no problems once you leave the store.
So, if you are going to buy a bike from this store
1) Make sure you know exactly what you what to buy (don't ask questions)
2) Make sure that everything works and ask the technician to do a final review of the bike before leaving the store
3) Be prepared for lack of customer service afterwards
There are plenty of other local bike stores in Toronto/GTA that deserve your patronage. I have shopped at other local bike stores and have never had this happen to me before. I really wanted to like this store, but from this experience, I don't think I will be buying future bikes from them, even on sale. The lackluster customer service kinda says that they don't really care about repeat or additional business.
Brown's Cycle certainly distinguishes themselves from the competition, but not in a good way.

I had to wait a long time (15 minutes) for someone to actually spend some useful time with me and answer questions. I got the feeling a few times they were just giving me a bit of lip service, try to get me to buy what I was looking at. I bought a bike there and a helmet.luckily unchecked the manufactured date of the helmet (inside sticker). Because the helmet the guy gave me was already 5 years old. As an fyi - 5 years is the limit you want to use a helmet for before the foam becomes brittle and doesnt provide the protection you need if you crash. I pointed this out and the sales guy went and grabbed me a new one. I felt like the old stock was put out to move it. I deal with Chain Reaction now (on dundas at royal york).

I can't thank the staff at Browns Sport's enough, their personal service, knowledge and the support they provided to me is hands down the best! I bought a new smart trainer and JP was kind enough to switch up the cassette for me. And thanks for the bike fit. I can't wait to get riding!
