Buxton National Historic Site & Museum

This museum is small but a lot of history. The school and graveyard, and church are so important to learn about our Black History and underground railroad. The two ladies working there were descendants of the black citizens.

I visited this museum today with my cousin and we were so amazed to learn more about the history of Blacks in Canada. Michelle was a wonderful guide and we enjoyed this experience immensely. Thank you for the service this provide to our community.

Beautifully restored historic buildings. Lots of local history. Proud to have this in our community.

We wanted to understand more about African Canadian history, and boy did Michelle deliver. I had understood some aspects of the slave trade and the underground railroad, but Michelle really brought it to life. The big gap for me was how escaped slaves settled and prospered. The very high standard of education was also a revelation. This is an important part of Ontario history that is not nearly as well known as it should be. Make the trip. Highly recommended.

I found it a very interesting and instructive visit, I recommend it.
In about an hour they explained to us when and how the slaves who fled from the USA in search of freedom arrived in this area of ​​Canada.
They also preserve a house from the period and a beautiful school.

Simply amazing! The tour was conducted by a decendant of a family who was enslaved there, and still, through generations, they possess and farm the land. This experience was much more than expected. Instead of getting tour of history, history gave us a tour.

Amazing! Tour was excellent! This is Canadian that shouldn't be discovered but freely taught in our education system. It's incredible to learn how they had arguably the first integrated school in Canada. Will return and bring others to experience it!
