My favourite coffee place. They make the best iced coffees & lattes. …. Wish they had a little more grab & go snacks. The ready food items, like cookies, muffins & pastries is very limited. Would love to see cheese croissants, scones, etc.
It’s nice to see these little places still thriving post-pandemic! I’ve only been a few times and always in the morning. This place is clean and bright and simple, and independently owned. Their English muffin breakfast sandwich with egg cheese and bacon is great paired with a drip coffee or a fancy flat white. Can’t beat the price either! Coffee and sandwich for about $10. I’d rather give them my money than gross TH or Starbucks!
Absolutely obsessed with the light breakfast and lunch options available here, including their baked goods. I love how inviting and welcoming the atmosphere feels - almost serves as a temporary distraction from the reality just outside of it. Great vegetarian options!
My absolute favourite coffee shop in Hamilton. Best people, best energy, best music, best food (10/10 broccoli salad and carrot and potato soup) Cameron, Mina, Taylor and Kay are all such wonderful people I am so grateful I have met them all I HIGHLY recommend this cafe
I love coming here for dine in or take out. The drinks are always top notch with great recommendations made by the baristas. Its nice to be greeted by name, as is almost every other customer that walks in. Baristas Cameron and Taylor create a great sense of community and welcoming in the cafe. Owner Mina has created a wonderful space to enjoy consistently delicious coffee, food, and treats.
I am quite picky when it comes to coffee and cafe vibes but this cafe hits everything right. My favourite place to do homework. Would definitely recommend:)
Came here because I was craving a good tosti… and was excited based on the reviews. Honestly I was a little disappointed when I got home to see that the cheese on my “hot pressed sandwich” was not even melted. And $6 plus tax is pretty steep for the wake up sandwich, considering the tiny portion…. Coffee was good.
I dropped in here after a haircut down the street and had an amazing relaxing experience. Very welcoming team and friendly - pleasant to interact with.
I ordered 2 fresh cookies, grilled cheese plus and black coffeeeeeee - i loved it! So goood
I stayed and continue working from this cafe and its quiete with relaxing jazz at the perfect volume level.
Updated: returned for lunch since I was in the area and menu looked great. Glad I did and had the recommended Van Gogh sandwich & Strawb/banana smoothie. Very pleased.
Having a great dark roast coffee & bagel this a.m. Great treasure this spot is. Must keep this in mind when in the area
Consistent and delicious. The staff really know their trade. The desserts remind me of my childhood. The breakfast is filling and ever so tasty. Try out the butrekoek. It's a taste of home.
Really love this place! I think they've changed owners throughout recent years, but the current folks are totally nailing it with great service and a super atmosphere.
So why knock them 2 stars? Their beans are old. That's a big deal to anyone who really loves good coffee. I love that they carry local roasters, and it's great that they post the roasting dates on their bulk jars. Unfortunately those dates are too long ago. As of today (May 2022) beans that are over 2 months old. One month should be the absolute max, but I often see more like 2 weeks max when I visit other spots.
I really hope they can figure out how to keep the beans fresher. After that, they'd be the perfect cafe, imo.
Their coffee selection is excellent, and their reusable cup program is wonderful! Fair prices, friendly service, and delicious goodies make this one of the best coffee shops in the city!
No matter where I go across Ontario, I cannot find Café Oranje's equal. The staff, the atmosphere, the coffee, the food. There is no comparison. I am delighted each and every time I visit.
If you are gluten-sensitive, there are always wheat-free options aplenty and their muffins are some of the best I have had in a long time. There is also gluten-free bread available if you want to get into any of their robust selection of sandwiches. And to any fans of oat milk, there is Earth's Own Barrista-style oat milk available.
The coffee is excellent - fans of black coffee, rejoice. It needs nothing added to be enjoyed to it's fullest. I simply tend to order lattes as a matter of preference.
The store is always clean and welcoming with an atmosphere that delights in clever simplicity. The owner reflects these values with her personable, easy wit, and her staff are always professional and courteous. I'm incredibly socially awkward and still, I find everyone who works here is really easy to talk to.
I am also sound sensitive but never feel the need to drown out noise here. Guests trend towards intelligent or pleasant conversation at a reasonable volume, and that over the sound of smooth jazz or lo-fi beats makes for pleasant background noise.
If you are someone who likes to work at the café, I have been using the space to draw and work on commission illustrations and have found it very easy to focus and get a lot done here.
The front door is a little small and heavy, but the staff are super courteous and if you think you will have any trouble with it, flag them down and they will absolutely help you. It's worth noting for the sake of accessibility as well, the bathroom is a rather small single-person room that requires you to ascend about two or three steps. As a result of the size and age of the building, there is no wheelchair accessibility.
The store is very lgbtq2+ friendly! I was asked for my pronouns (for context, I use they/them) and they have been well respected ever since.
All in all, I love this café. It is easily my favourite in the province. I am moving away soon, so I will dearly miss it. But I hope that it will continue to thrive so that whenever I visit Hamilton, I can stop by for a while.
Was introduced to this cafe a few weeks ago and ever since I had tried their latte I knew I had to return. The food here is remarkable. I highly recommended the Wake Up Sandwich, as it’s one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had. The atmosphere here is unbeatable. It’s such a small gem in downtown Hamilton that everyone should visit. I can calmly sit here for hours and feel like I’m at home, thanks to the amazing staff.
Never had anything from here before but walk past it 4 days out of the week to go to work beautiful place. Talk to one of the staff members and he is a nice guy. If I liked coffee I would deff stop in alot since I'm a stone throw away. Glad to see small shops like this are still around and have staff that care.
Amazing sandwiches and service. Vegan options ensure there's something for everyone, and it's all great! My partner says the coffee is fantastic as well.:)
Found this wonderful spot with great food and friendly staff. The whole experience was wonderful, I really love how this place has great options for both meat eaters and vegans! Wonderful little breakfast spot, will definitely come back here!
When I first moved to Hamilton last fall, I made a point to try out as many coffee shops as possible (for take-out only, of course), as a way of seeing the city & having some sense of normal through the pandemic. When I found Cafe Oranje my coffee shop tour stopped because I knew I found ‘my place. ’ Mena and Cameron make an amazing oat milk latte (& with gluten free oat milk), and the shop always smells of warm freshly baked treats. Whenever I visit, I feel like I’m with friends. I’m looking forward to eventually sitting in the window seat to people watch!
Care Oranje is special to me. They serve the best product. If you're not happy they'll make it right. They serve a wide range of coffee and tea. Fresh made breakfast, soups and sandwiches and delicious baked goods. Served with a smile and good music played at the proper level.
The coffee was so good! And the vegan options, 10/10. I got the vegan breakfast sandwich and it was so delicious and filling. I'm definitely going to visit again.
Covid update: open for takeout and online ordering.
Very clean and safe with covid restrictions, loyalty program and the new orange mocha is absolutely amazing and tastes like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange!
Been going here for several years whenever I can. The owner and her employees are friendly and welcoming. When the cafe is open it’s very cosy and inviting inside. Fresh baked goods, soothing or energizing warm drinks (depending on what you need) and even ice cream from Willard’s up on Main St. Lots of vegan and gluten-free options and the breakfast sandwiches and soups and salads are delicious as well and generously portioned.
This is the best little cafe, delicious baked goods, ice cold pints of Willard’s ice cream and scrumptious breakfast and lunch options. Everything with a Dutch flare. ️
Was there today, delicious food in a safe and comfortable environment. The lady behind the counter was friendly and outgoing. Check it out if you have never been.
I cannot stress enough how wonderful this place is. The staff are always wonderful, and everything I have ever gotten as been amazing. The food is always delicious, and the drinks are impeccable, the best coffee in Hamilton. It makes me happy every time I go.
They nail the atmosphere. Mina does a wonderful job with the freshly baked and authentic pastries. Although I am from out of town I will definitely be back
Just had THEE BEST Peanut Butter Rice Crispy, with a decedent chocolate swirl design topping! They spared no expense when making this treat! The price point was very good also for what you're getting! "Real Ingredients" And the young lady that runs the cafe' is very, very sweet! Just when I was about to take my last bite, I thought, darn why didn't I snap a pic! Next time!:) Judy
I always judge a coffee shop on their rendition of a flat white. I had great expectations after reading the reviews online, unfortunately when the barista used the same steamed milk to make 2 separate flat white's, I knew this wasn't going to be the 4.6 star experience. Coffee tasted bitter. However, staff were very friendly and they promote fundraising for the homeless.
Very nice location with well maintained paths through the woods skirting the river. A good location to see some Osprey. Parking can be a bit difficult. Great place to go for a walk or bike ride along the grand river. It's nice to stop off at the dam and watch the water flow while people fish. Always a good time hiking around the area
Great concept. I wanted this place to be great but it fell short. Coffee was good but the food was a disappointment. Kroketten heated up on grill? Stroopwaffles were a disappointment. Service was lacking. My wife's cappuccino seemed to be prioritized behind the five people that came in after us. Not worth the trip for a good coffee but if the food was better and more authentic I would reconsider.
My friend spilled a drink and the staff here was super nice about it and helped clean it up, even offering a replacement drink! Great atmosphere and coffee.
First off, Mina is an absolute delight and made my entire experience in this neighborhood cafe wonderful. A good cup of coffee, a delicious homemade pastry and great conversation = a perfect visit. Highly recommend.
Great coffee; lovely owner, staff, and ambiance. The owner supports the art scene, which is nice. Excellent location. Some of the food is a bit pricy and the chairs aren't very comfortable. That said, I still recommend this place to anybody in the area who wants to shop local.
Always a good and different selections of options for lunch or snacks. Wide selection of beverages to be had with many options for milks including soy, wheat, almond. Staff are friendly and accommodating.
Gezellig describes this place perfectly. Just a quaint atmosphere with absolutely lovely staff. Great to see a cafe with an infusion of the Dutch culture.
Went in today for the first time after a year. The coffee is still good.
I actually had breakfast for the first time here as well and it was surprisingly good! The guy who made it said it was his first time making it, he did a super good job.
It feels a little tight, I won't lie. But that's cuz I'm a big guy and smaller places make me extra aware of the space I occupy. The orange color theme isnt annoying at all, in fact, kudos to their interior designer cuz they somehow made this color work.
The staff is friendly, or at least the two guys I saw today, and if you're interested, they're selling coffee beans as well (today they had these Colombian beans from San Agustin that are The Best).
Good place for you to bring your laptop and just work for a couple hours, or draw, or just sit down and stare at nothing until you feel it's time to go.
Really nice place to sit! My americano was good and I think the prices to get a drink & treat were perfect. The service was just ok though. One bonus is they carry Willards Ice cream pints & offer really good gluten- free treats.
Nice cozy cafe with quality, locally roasted beans. Incredibly friendly staff who helped me choose some coffee I may like, having just gotten into grinding my own beans.
Cozy, bright, art-filled space with great coffee in a variety of well-considered roasts. A good variety of food too, and right downtown! Definitely one of the best options in Hamilton.
The service was excellent, great coffee and pastries. The barista was very friendly and overall a really welcoming atmosphere. Also a great location, nice to sit and watch the traffic on King St.
So cozy and welcoming! My partner and I stopped in to hang out here for a couple hours before a flight. Not only was the coffee great, there were comfy chairs and vegan treats. Would go back next time I'm in Hamilton.
