Love coming here! Dim sum is my favourite, but everything on the menu is Awsome! This could be the most authentic Chinese restaurant in the city! It’s not typical western service (duh…) but it is still exceptional.
Tasty food! One lady server is so lovely and helpful, she makes me miss the kind of friendly neighborly relationship that I have with street food vendors in my home country
I thought its a little bit overpriced especially if you ordered from delivery platform. I ordered 1 congee and chicken feet which took me around 30 Canadian dollar on the skip the dishes
I went here for dinner with my friends and family for early Thanksgiving dinner. We spent around $150 dollars. Pretty good price for 10 people. It was my first time trying this restaurant and the quality of the food is good, the environment was very sanitary. I recommend the General Tao Chicken mmm i am craving it again, the HongKong style Milk Tea was also pretty good. In downtown they are plenty of Boba places to choose from but the Milk Tea here just taste a lot fresher and less sugary. The service was awesome aswell! Would definitely visit again
This please is the real deal for home made authentic Cantonese food. Service is awesome. Don’t let the look of the place fool you, this place is the place if you miss HK style mom homemade cooking. 梅菜肉餅, 魚香茄子扒 and 豆腐椒鹽豆腐 are the must try.
Good dinner options and very helpful staff. The menu is a little tricky to understand, they have a lunch and dinner menu. The dinner menu is more expensive but gives you more, the lunch options are more like snacks, that's how I understood it, both menu have a huge list of different options. Meat was very tasty and spicy even with less spice so be careful, but still good to eat. Everything came with good rice, they would also give you more, but we where fine with one bowl.
Just came back from Hong Kong last month, I could say the fried noodle was absolutely better than most of them in HK, the dinning room is full of the great HK style tea aroma, highly recommend!
The food were sooooo good! We had lunch even the time was short. But the place was full of people.
Their dried beef rice noodle is the best! So far we tried all Dim Sim in Ottawa. This is the number one for sure. The customer service was good. The owner and server always nice and with their cool service style. The stylish more like HK style. We will def go back to have another great time there!
I love this place. It has that grandma made food vibe and never disappoints. Its a Hong Kong style Chinese food and probably the best congee in Ottawa. Extremely fast service and the ladies are very hospitable. An institution of Cantonese food in Ottawa.
If you're a fan of Chinese cuisine, Hongkong Cafe Orient is definitely worth a visit. With its legendary status and reputation for great food at fair prices and good portions, it's a restaurant that comes highly recommended!
I came for authentic HK food, but they are even below the level you would expect for an average restaurant business (at least for the food I ordered). I can cook better taste food at home.
Leagues above all other Chinese restaurants I've tried in town. Dim sum was excellent (Youtiao, hot and sour soup, Har gow, yucai, chiu chow fun gor, steamed bao, and sticky rice)
Food is always good here, mostly rice and noodles type, nothing fancy. Sort of like a Chinese greasy spoon type of restaurant that people feels comfortable to go to for good food, good service, at a reasonable price.
This place has truly the best Cantonese food that you can get in Ottawa. Consistenly authentic, flavourful, satisfying, and overall just delicious. We have been going here at least bi-weekly since before I was born (well over 20 years) and it really never fails. Must try: efu noodles, ma po tofu, and beef tendon if you like that. Really any dish is a win.
Cafe Orient serves Hong Kong style Chinese food. I've been coming here for years. I really do enjoy their wide selection of dishes to try from. I have many pictures but not sure where the rest are but I'll update with more pictures since I know I will be back.
Plenty of parking, normally don't have to wait as they have enough tables from my experience.
They also serve dim sum here. I have too many favourite dishes so I would recommend you to try everything on the menu once and see what you like.
Wouldn't say it's the most amazing HK food I've tasted - 3.5 stars at best. The baked pork chop rice is lacking tomato and pineapple chunks, and the portuguese chicken rice is quite bland without carrot and potato chunks. And the sauce is way too gooey (prob a lot of corn starch) without any tumeric and coconut flavour. I'm not being officious, it's just how it is served in many cha chaan tengs and even fast food restaurants in Hong Kong.
The only place in Ottawa with hong kong style food! The quality is consistent, big portions and the ingredients are very fresh. I highly recommend this place!
Always good food at Cafe Orient. I’ve dined at Cafe Orient multiple times.
Their shanghai dumpling is a must have, along with some other dim sums! Their fish fillet with creamy corn was very delicious, I would recommend to others.
I had been looking for a Hong Kong style restaurant in Ottawa, and this comes pretty close. Lots of good menu options. Food was tasty and prices reasonable.
The menu is so huge & confusing we literally could not make heads or tails of it. However, having stumbled on the place hungry, we persevered, explaining our confusion to the proprieter. No problem. We listed off items we wanted - she said yea or nay & asked about preferences in meat, veg & heat, essentially ordering for us. What a good decision. 20 minutes later we walked out with some of the tastiest hong kong style we've found in Ottawa. The beef w/greens was oh so tender & properly, lightly stir fried. The hot & sour soup was beautifully balanced - the best we've had anywhere in years. Generous, family sized portions, tons of shrimp in the rice, fresh veg, well seared pork & attention to complex, layererd spicing throughout. Frankly, it looked like a hole in the wall & we expected very little - hoping for edible at least. What we carried out was excellent fare. Every one of the 8 varied dishes we ordered were perfectly done. Highly recommend.
It's one of those hidden gem places where you don't want people to know about. For Asian cuisine, my husband and I order from here and they consistently serve great quality of food in a timely manner. They have a huge menu and everything we've ordered so far has not let us down. Thanks for keeping up the good work!:)
