Dr. Mantynen is the best! My daughter was under Dr. Mantynen’s care from 3 months old. He was always available and helpful. Recently we are going to his clinic more often since my daughter is getting sick going through her first year of school. Receptionist Maria is very dedicated and make sure you get an appointment if it’s an emergency even within a couple of hours notice. The doctor is always helpful, caring and supportive. He really makes time for his patients.

This review is for Dianna (Lactation Consultant). Dianna was absolutely fabulous to work with! My son was born with a severe tongue tie and we were having latch issues, as well as supply issues after a difficult c-section recovery. We worked together on a plan for our family needs but ultimately decided formula was the way to go with my son. Dianna never made me feel guilty/bad about my decision to go the formula route and was extremely supportive. I’d recommend her to anyone who needs support!

This is the best doctor all around Cambridge. Cambridge has alot of pediatricians and they are useless until I met him he helped me so much with my son and diagnosed him properly and I could never thank him enough.

I was initially referred to Dr Mantynen for my baby’s tongue tie release. The LC was very helpful, thorough and caring. Dr Mantynen was very efficient. I returned on two other occasions and Dr Mantynen provided very thorough care and referred us to the very best specialists for both issues (Sick Kids Toronto and McMaster). Dr Mantynen is caring, efficient and thorough. Also, in my experience, he brings out dry humour when you least expect it and most certainly could use it.

I had Dr. Mantynen for my boys for many years and he was excellent. It diagnosed my sons asthma quickly after many frustrating trips to the family Dr.and helped in many other situations. He is excellent and so is his staff.

Dr Mantynen is the best paediatrician in Ontario. His support of lactating moms is second to none. He is knowledgeable and empowering and is never allowed to retire - like not ever! His receptionist Maria is one of my favourite people in the world and she goes above and beyond to ensure people are seen ASAP!

Visited this clinic for some breastfeeding help and to have a tongue tie assessed. The lactation consultant, Diana, was so thoughtful, caring and knowledgeable. I was nervous attending the appointment, but she was encouraging and gave many tips and exercises to help baby latch. They determined my baby did have a minor tongue tie and suggested having the procedure, but let me make the final decision. The procedure itself was so fast and not as bad as I expected. While I hope I am more successful with feeding and do not need to return, if required, I would definitely go back for further help. Thank you!

Couldn't ask for better. My son has been going there since birth and he is now almost 14 years old. Dr. Mantynen is the best and catches everything, there isn't anything he hasn't been extremely knowledgeable about. Maria is amazing too. We always get treated with kindness and caring and never dismissed as a bother. Sometimes you have to wait, but I cannot imagine any complaining about this, I have to wait everywhere I go. If you get good medical attention that is what really matters. Also, we are always fit in when there is a problem that needs quick attention. If you have to wait, then that means someone else who needed urgent care got looked after, and they would do the same for you should you need it. Couldn't ask for better care for my son and it has been a great peace of mind over the last 14 years.

Caring staff, excellent doctor. Maria always fits us in whenever there is a problem. Dr. Mantynen has diagnosed serious conditions in my kids - he never dismissed my concerns. Very good about supporting interns, students/residents. This office is not going to coddle you, though, so if that is what you are looking for, look elsewhere.

I am SO thankful for being referred to the Cambridge Paediatric and Breastfeeding Clinic. I was having milk supply issues and my son was having latch issues. Needless to say, I was really stressed out about this because I had a strong desire to breastfeed my first baby, but I felt like I was failing! At the clinic I met Diana, the Lactation Consultant, and had an amazing experience with her. She was so kind, empathetic, knowledgeable, and understanding. She worked with me for several weeks and was always so approachable and caring. She heard me cry several times, and made sure I was being kind to myself too. She helped me to meet my goals in a step by step approach that was realistic and attainable for my lifestyle. I honestly can’t thank her enough for her support during those very difficult weeks. She was so reassuring and supportive. Definitely a Godsend. I highly recommend Diana if you are stressed and having any kind of breastfeeding issues. Also, Dr. Mantynen was so kind and caring when he clipped my sons lip and tongue tie. He was knowledgeable, and always checked in week after week to see how my son and I were doing. I really appreciated that. Overall, my son is now 13 weeks and I have been now exclusively breastfeeding him- a goal I thought I would never obtain. But with hard work, perseverance and the support of an amazing LC, Diana, I got to where I wanted to be.:)

We booked an appointment with the lactation consultant, Diana, after my son was having trouble latching at the beginning. She was so helpful and made sure that we left only after he had established a good latch! I was told at the hospital that he had a bit of a tie on his upper lip which may affect feeding and need to be corrected. As soon as we got there, Diana did a thorough exam of his mouth and determined the tie wasn't likely bad enough that he couldn't feed. The hospital had also set me up with a nipple shield which kind of worked, but was a huge pain. By the time we left the office he had latched on no problem without it! Less than a week after the appointment he's been feeding like a champ ever since, thanks to Diana's advice!

I personally have had great experience with this clinic. We started there to have a tongue tie treated and I found NP to be very knowledgeable and informative. Since then, Dr Mantynen has become my daughters pediatrician and I find him incredible! Always up to date on newest information and answers my questions in a competent and empathetic manner.
For those complaining of wait times, I think it is important to realize that emergencies happen. Should my daughter have one, I would hope that it would trump the follow ups waiting for routine follow up or consults as well. For that reason, I do not mind waiting when needed (although I have only waited once).

I was referred to this clinic for two of my children, both times because they were slow to gain weight. The Lactation Consultant helped me feel assured and gave me good breastfeeding tips. I found the LC was knowledgeable. They also sell great breastfeeding pillows that are hard to find elsewhere.

Very friendly staff, dr was quiet but efficient!
Only thing I wish I knew ahead of time is that the clinic is located inside the Zehrs! There are no signs outside and nothing online lol

I was referred by my doctor for breast pain during breastfeeding. Terrible experience. The blonde breastfeeding nurse (I think Tara is her name). Walked in the door and she diagnosis me with thrush without even saying hello. “ you and your baby have thrush” didn’t look at my breasts, ask any questions. Gives me some forms and writes a prescription for thrush. She was unpleasant, rude, and just negative personality/ energy.
She still hasn’t checked me.says let me check the baby. “ No thrush.she is got tongue tie and lip tie. ” She was so pushy to get the procedure done there on the spot!
I said I was going to stop breastfeeding soon anyways. She said “ did you know babies that breastfeed have a higher IQ”.
She went to get the doctor. I am in shock with her behaviour. I notice she laid out the knife, gloves, and gauze on the bed.
Then the doctor comes in.for 30 seconds. I say “ you know I am NOT doing this right now! ”.
she took the lead and told him what she thought. He says ok and agrees.
She tells me if you get it done now you don’t have to pay OHIP covers it. After the age of one you would need to pay $800-900 at the dentist. After you will actually enjoy breastfeeding and this tongue tie causes issues with speech and she won’t be able to pronounce some sounds like the letter R like. (looks up at me) like in Spanish. Wow! (not Spanish) nice try lady.
Something is not right. Even the relationship between her and the doctor seemed off. I thought she is either sick and enjoys doing the procedure.or something to do with money. I told my doctor all this after. Will be going some other place. Did I mention the lady before me came out crying?
Ya now I know why.
Do not let her or that doctor do anything to your children! Get a second opinion she is mad!

The previous reviews of the tongue/lip tie release experiences are 100% accurate. The nurse practitioner was very unprofessional - told me how tired she was and acted like it. They did the releases after quickly looking inside the mouth - it all happens so fast. They do not recommend stretches and provide no instructions for aftercare. After still experiencing breastfeeding challenges over two months later, with signs that my baby still had ties, I took her to a dentist. Her lip had fully reattached and she still had a posterior tongue tie. I HIGHLY recommend skipping this clinic, it's pointless. Milltown Dental in Milton is a preferred provider by the Cleavage Club (on Facebook) - and the assessment provided there was very thorough and informative. I wish we had gone here from the start instead of putting my baby through this twice. Cambridge Paediatrics mentions how much dentists charge versus what they get from OHIP but it became clear to me that there is a reason.

Had our first appt on March 13. The nurse practitioner did not seem warm though she did spend some time trying to teach me how to latch my baby and how to use a lactation aid. The meeting felt a little chaotic because it was a busy afternoon for them so the nurse and her intern were in and out of the small patient room.

My son had both a lip and tongue tie, conditions I'm very familiar with as I had a lip tie until I was in highschool, so I didn't need a lot of explanation about the release procedure. I can understand how some parents would get upset if things aren't sufficiently explained to them, but we were given handouts that explained the procedure and how the conditions impact breastfeeding. They did get signed consent from my husband and me. Tara and Dr Mantynen performed the procedures efficiently but there was very little interaction between us and Dr Mantynen.

After this appointment, I wasn't sure if I would go back; it was not an overly negative experience, but it wasn't positive either. I would rate the experience as 3 stars.

My doula talked about how much Tara had helped her and that Tara is really good at what she does despite her personality. So, I decided to give it another shot because I really want to be able to breastfeed.

I called on Tuesday and left a voicemail. Within an hour, I got a call back from Maria and she ended up booking me for an appointment on Thursday. At the second appointment, I raised a number of concerns (nipple pain, milk supply, treatment for cradle cap, outcome of blood work, concerns about thrush) all of which Tara addressed. Even though my son is not a patient of Dr Mantynen and the cradle cap concern is definitely not breastfeeding related, he spent the time to discuss treatment options for my son. He also spent quite a bit of time reviewing and explaining medication options/contraindications/supplement options for increasing my milk supply. We even talked about promising research and future treatments for autoimmune disorders. Dr Mantynen was concerned about improving my disease progression and took the time to share his knowledge and current advances in medicine.

After this experience, it made me realize that it's not that they are cold or don't care. Most likely, they are trying to see as many patients as possible, and their efficiency can be perceived as a fast-food approach. After all, they see breastfeeding and regular paediatric patients from the whole region at this one clinic. I can certainly understand that other parents feel this way and there are lots of room for improvement. However, I would urge people to give the team a second chance and try to view things from their perspective as well.

Based on the level of care that my son and I received today and the apparent expertise of their medical team, I would now rate them 4 stars.

My experience here is the same as the other posters. I came here for help with breatsfeeding and they just wanted to cut my son's tongue tie (he barely had a tongue tie). And didn't explain what or why they were doing it. I ended up giving up and switching to bottles. This place offered little support, was overbooked, and lack of bedside manner. I wish I had read reviews before going there.

We've been treated so well by Dr. Mantynen, NP Tara, and Maria. When our son was small Maria always made sure we could get in to see Dr. Mantynen whenever we needed to. Now that our son is quite a bit older, we don't come to the clinic very often, but I appreciate that they have always made time for us.

We had nearly the exact same experience as many other posters. Referred here for a tongue tie and struggles with breastfeeding. End up getting treated for a lip tie - no mention of a tongue tie. Your baby has a scalpel in their mouth before you even have a chance to ask what's going on. Left in the room to feed, the nurse finally returns 45 minutes later and says everything is fine, we could leave. Never once watched me latch or gave any feeding advice. Left us with a pile of papers to read - printed off the internet from the International Breastfeeding Clinic.

Ended up paying to go to that exact clinic in Toronto - worth the drive and money! I had a lactation consultant AND student watch and give me tips for over an hour. My child ended up having a tongue tie that needed to be released (as per the midwifes recommendation from the start) and the physician (Jack Newman himself) made sure to check me out first, to ensure nothing was wrong with my breasts/milk/etc.and watched me feed my baby. Totally different experience - make the drive to Toronto.
