Seats for free concert not comfortable but I moved below to sit a seat with a back need it for support for my back.

It was such a delightful evening, most people were nicely dressed, music was the best but the performance was breathtaking. Not to be missed. Enjoy!

La Bohème was more than we expected! The Opera experience, the venue, the service was exceptional!
16 October 2023 16:19
Standing room was great, especially at the price value. However, it would have been nice to have a program giving background to the opera and bios of players. The single sheet provided was very disappointing

We watched the performance of the opera camp for children up to age 8, and were thoroughly impressed with the performance and its leadership, Murray

Racist organization. I was watching Macbeth the opera and I took at picture after the show was over during the applause time. A staff came over to me and told me to delete the photo as photos are not permitted. I attend shows at the coc regularly and this is the first time I was told so. Nonetheless I deleted the photo. Then the staff proceeded to tell me to delete the photo from cache as well. I told her I don’t know how to do that and why she’s only telling me to delete the photo when the white man sitting directly in front of me was still taking photos as we speak. She proceeded to say she needs to open the door and ran away. Meanwhile the door did not open for another five minutes. I think she was not expecting me to succumb to her double standards and threats.

I love this theatre. Certainly the best one in Toronto even if ur in the nosebleed. Beautiful decor on every floor and very helpful concierges; I can’t speak highly enough of their customer service.

The COC continues to put on excellent productions of Opera. This was my third opera this year, and again, I wished I could fit in seeing this opera. MOZART'S The Marriage of Figaro again. I've been going to Operas for approximately 60 years and the COC continues to impress me, and the fact that I wish to see it again speaks for itself. The prices are reasonable and getting an additional ticket was easy, quick, and at an excellent price. Martin

Another great production, the marriage of Figaro. Performances are always amazing. Facility is beautiful. The architecture is beautiful. It's always clean and the staff are always friendly.
04 July 2022 17:06
Great performances. Many people complains that they don't understand what the opera is about. Well, this is not an excuse anymore. You can see the subtitles during the performance. If you haven't seen an opera yet, give it a chance to the best form of acting performance. Listen great orchestra, chorus and singers. Touch to the notes of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini.

Very big and beautiful. The seats *ring 4 on the balcony to the right) were a bit cramped and the floor was slanted just a bit giving a dizzy off balance feeling at times.
05 April 2022 23:10
Fabulous. One of the best Opera companies in the world. The current artistic director is leaving to head the Paris Opera. So the quality of the company is premium.
03 January 2022 8:10
The faculity was really clean and modern, not to mention the ballet was absolutly eye catching. The sound of the symphony was ear candy for the movements on the stage.
08 July 2021 12:38
Another absolute favorite venue in T. O. Beautifully designed space housing incredible, quality, second to none performances.
23 April 2020 19:10
Brilliant shows complemented by breathtaking design - architecture, facility and so on. A pleasure to have in the city. I have been a customer here multiple times and will certainly return in future. Compliments!
16 April 2020 15:43
Saw Barber of Seville, would highly recommend as the comedy was brilliant alongside the unreal singing and music.
31 March 2020 17:30
Great acoustics, sight lines, terrific orchestra. But to be honest if you like opera this is your only choice in Toronto. I guess if you're wealthy you can fly Porter down to The Metropolitan in NYC.
26 March 2020 12:30
I attended one of the free noon concerts. Musicians and dancer were excellent. Group was sponsored be the Aga Khan museum. As a bonus it offered an introduction into the music of a culture I had not been exposed to prior.
19 March 2020 13:05
Amazing venue and very good productions. Not as opulent as New York Met, but often more to the point, frequently original and quite enjoyable. Primary troope is usually very good, with some standouts who's voices fill the stage like a waterfall. Each season is a mixture of crowd favorites and couple of risky unknowns. One drawback: each production is staged for only one week (likely because TO can not support/fill the venue for longer). That and the limit to awful Trius wines in concession.
26 February 2020 6:44
I try to come here as much as I can, I love this place and their productions. Free concert are a plus, everyone should be able to experience art

Ballets are usually not super-athletic or synchronised but operas were not bad, even though decoration is awfully simplistic. Then I saw their Barber of Seville and that was the last drop - barbarian treatment of music. The new conductor seemed to be in a rush, so singers were swallowing words instead of singing melodies. And several cute moments were missed when they changed the choreography. Awful, for such a great opera!

I love widening my horizons, and have never been to an opera, so when I heard that Die Fledermaus was going to be there, I thought it was time to give opera a try. I'll admit, I had no idea what Die Fledermaus was about but had recognized the name from an episode of Friends. A friend was going to see it with his German mother and told me a bit about the story and it sounded interesting! He indicated that it was actually an Operetta which has subtitles. (After viewing the COC website it looks like all of their shows have subtitles).

I was expecting to spend about $50-$75 for cheap seats but was pleasantly surprised that the COC has an Under 30 special where they reserve some seats in every performance for people under 30 for $22 ($35 if you want to be bumped up to a better seat day of if available). Great idea in my opinion to get younger people involved. And it sure seemed to work b/c I saw a lot of younger people at the show.

The seats were in Ring 5. And while high up, there was still lots of room, you could see the stage and orchestra well and had a good view of the subtitles. In fact, since I went on a Tuesday there were actually a lot of empty seats up on the 4th and 5th ring and after the intermission my friend and I moved down to better seats without a problem. It looked like a lot of other people did too.

Drinks and snacks were a bit pricey. And I was surprised at only 1 intermission when there were 3 acts. However, the 2nd and 3rd acts went quicker than I thought. They scare you a bit by saying that you may not be allowed in if you're late, and can't leave the show b/c it disturbs the performers. Since I have a small bladder I didn't drink anything so was a little parched, but then saw a few people being seated after the show started, so I guess the rule isn't adhered to strictly.

While I don't think I'm going to be seeing a ton of operas now, I really enjoyed myself and the beautiful theatre. I would come back if there was a show that tickled my fancy and would like to see a ballet here.

Incredible experience. Been waiting to go to a ballet all my life. Sixty eight and I made it a first. A dream come true.

It is located on University & Queen st. Beautiful glass architecture with open and modern interior design.
Friendly and helpful staffs.
Extremely clean environment.

Beautiful building and fantastic seats. Purchased "under 30" tickets for Turandot (Oct 2019) and Barber of Seville (Feb 2020). Our tickets for Turandot were upgraded to row G. Pretty great deal and a fantastic date night.
22 July 2019 5:39
An amazing acoustical treasure. This is an amazing Opera House with an equally outstanding orchestra.
09 July 2019 7:06
Always a delight to see the COC in action. Absolutely loved la Boheme, sobbed ridiculously, and Otello had some of the best stage lighting I'd seen in ages to highlight the lovely performance and effectively minimal set design. Will always be back for more.

Free noon time concerts at the COC Always a thrill! Today was selection of Shubert, Faure, Debussy and others
10 June 2019 13:02
Marvelous venue, easy to access via subway or by car, clean, central, service is always 5* and you can see and enjoy the show from any seat even on the 5th floor. They also have bars at almost each floor where you can have a variety of drinks while enjoying a superb view of downtown Toronto. Love this place!

Amazing acoustics, modern but comfortable, great performances #coc or #thenationalballetofcanada, always enjoyable!

Brought My Wife to See Our First Opera. We watched Cosi Fan Tutti by Mozart a couple of months ago. The music, singing, costumes, and set were gorgeous. The opera hall was stunning. My comments on the direction appear below.

My wife, who had grave reservations about going to the opera, had a wonderful experience of the night. I'd prepped her beforehand by playing the music at least once a week for a few months leading up to the event, so that she would be very familiar with the singing when she heard it performed. She still mentions how much she enjoyed it, several weeks after the fact. So, it was a definite score. THANK YOU COC, for giving us such a rich and rewarding experience. We look forward to other operas in our 3 package deal.

We stayed at the Sheraton, which is located directly across the street, and ate a fantastic meal before the show. The hotel restaurant caters to the out of town opera goers, and has a section reserved for them, to expedite their orders, so they arrive at the opera on time.

The only flaw (and it was major) was Atom Egoyan's heavy-handed, politically charged direction of the production. He imposed a ludicrous interpretation onto Mozart's masterpiece that nearly ruined the show. I heard him speak years ago to a classroom of film production students at York University. The man is all flash, no substance. Regarding the opera, he made the decision to force a politically correct framework onto the production so that the framework actually ran the risk of detracting from the opera itself. I came to hear Mozart's opera, not to stare at Egoyan's weirdly tasteless stagecraft. Who do these upstarts think they are? Fifty years from now, people will continue to attend Mozart's operas, but noone will recall directors like this one. Directors of musical masterpieces need to learn humility, and realize they are servants to the art, not the other way around.

I love the architecture of this place. It’s very artistic and well designed. Their staff are super nice and you can find good performances here

I go to the free concert series. You have to get there early to have a seat but very worth it. The quality of performance is always great.

I attended the "Free Concert Series" today. What a wonderful way to share music️. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. Listening to great music and watching the city go by. Lovely. Keep on doing amazing work.

I have enjoyed my subscription to the COC. It's well-worth it, and I've enjoyed everything from popular Mozart operas to avant-garde Canadian works (these are more hit and miss). If you're lucky you'll see local (yet internationally-renowned) stars like Sondra Radvanovsky, or other regulars like Christine Goerke (Wagner Ring Cycle & Elektra). Post-aria applause is expected and encouraged! Surtitles make it easy to follow the plot, and the sound is superior at the stunning Four Seasons Centre, which is conveniently connected to Osgoode Station. Recommend the pre-opera talks for insight on the composer, and pre-ordering your drinks for intermission to speed up the process. For the longer operas, suggest coffee rather than wine - you'll need it to get through Wagner. Arrive on time, or you won't be seated until intermission.

I come to the COC a couple times a year. Always fun. Not a bad seat in the house. Coat check is inexpensive and hassle free. Bar is very expensive. Bring a flask.

The Canadian Opera Company is, what I call, my “ Home away from Home “.

When I am in Toronto, Opera and Ballet are my must do’s.

Opera reminds us, throughout the ages, the importance of exploring the Voice of Humanity and with that, the power of Storytelling.

Also, the mini snack box is quite nice.
15 March 2019 8:38
I have been to this venue for both performances and parties. No matter the occasion the staff have always been helpful and the venue always beautiful.
04 March 2019 6:50
While music and singing are great and really enjoyable, scenography, and costumes make it a little contravercial. While everyone still doing it, what was appropriate then, looks like unwanted advances now. Regardless, you can not really do wrong, if music is by Mozart.
28 February 2019 19:45
Overall, the company regularly produces wonderful performances in a nice building, the Four Seasons Centre. After so many years, it turned out that we do not need to travel to New York, Houston, Seattle, etc, to enjoy the beautiful singing. In particular, recent production of Wagner operas was just magnificent. And I am always happy to listen to phenomenal voice of Sondra Radvanovsky!

Toronto musichack. If you are looking for some free amazing music during the day - check out the Free Concert Series at Four Seasons Center for Performing Arts @ Richard Bradshaw Amphitheater (aka autrium outside of the main opera hall). Make sure to arrive early though. It is first come - first serve, no pre-booking. Was there half an hour before the show & the line up was long, even on a cold winter day I was afraid I would not get in - only standing room was left by the time inside & the doors close sharply at the start of the performance - no latecoming at all. Place was at capacity. But! You get to listen to beautiful music for free with great view of the city rushing by - a real bonus! I think the sessions last about an hour or so. Also, the hall is on top of the subway station, so you don't even need to go outside if you are using public transit & check out Douglas Coupland cone near the entrance - always a treat to see art by creator of Generation X) very accessible, easy to plan a visit, helpful, if strictish staff & volunteers - all for the sake of efficiency. No snacks or drinks are available inside before or after the performance. Last tip - dont stand or sit on the stairs - ushers will ask you leave 100% - it is a fire code thing. A great way to spend couple of lunch hours.

I went for watching the nutcracker, was awesome, the place it's really good, I think that you can see well from all the seats, bar in the main floor, souvenir store and really easy access on ttc

Was invited here to watch the nut cracker as a tradition. Had a blast! I'm not one to usually go to the theatre. But I really enjoyed myself, looking forward to coming back next year
