Thought we’d give it a try since we love Thai food, but let me be clear, we love authentic Thai food. Ordered the pad see ew with chicken and red curry with beef. The protein in both dishes were very tender. However, the pad see ew was way too salty, the noodles reminded me of the Cantonese beef and Chinese broccoli fried noodles but harder and the flavour of the dish was off. The red curry wasn’t bad, more on the sweeter side, but nothing spectacular. It wasn’t busy when we went so it was a nice environment to have lunch in. Decor is nice and modern.
I may give this place another shot and try something else on the menu but I wouldn’t recommend the pad see ew.
I used to go to this restaurant when they were at Leslie and John. I didn't know if they moved or closed down. I found them again and they are my go to Thai place and even closer to my house. Great food and customer service.
Tried these rice wrap spring rolls today. Delicious and perfect food for a summer appetizer.
Very friendly staff and amazing atmosphere. The manager Jackie himself served me and is simply a great guy. The food also tastes good. Reasonably priced and a variety to choose from. Its my first visit, but definitely not my last.
Beware! The dinner special for $28 is barely enough for only one person which the flyer does not disclose. The pad Thai noodles are flavourless despite the bright red colour from what I guess is ketchup. Very disappointing.
Love the environment, chose the dinner combo. Great portion, took spicy green beef. Love it Helen our server was so sweet and she guided us.definitely will come back again.
Canadian Thai A hidden gem with surprising flavour.
3365 Steeles Ave E B4, North York, ON M2H 3S8
Item (s) ordered:
Drunken Noodle (Pad Kee Mao) $13.99 CAD 10/10 While the beef portion was small, the noodles were deliciously fragrant and abundant. I had enough leftovers for another small meal. The noodles were well cooked - not too soft, not too dry. It came with 2 spring rolls with dipping sauces - one sweet and one spicy. Although it wasn't clear if both were for the spring rolls or if one was for the noodles.
? Thai Dumplings (6 pieces). $7.99 CAD 6/10 I was underwhelmed by this appetizer. I was expecting unique flavours; however, it tasted more like steamed Chinese dumplings with a thick peanut sauce on top. The sauce was nice but would've paired better with something lighter like fresh rolls. The dumplings themselves were decent but there was a lot more dough wrapper than filling which felt too mushy when eaten with the thick peanut sauce since it was steamed/boiled. For >$1/dumpling, I wouldn't order this again.
? Thai Iced Tea $4.95 CAD 10/10
Overall, due to the odd location with few restaurants around, Canadian Thai is a great option. This is my first time trying pad kee mao and it may be a new favourite Thai dish. Although it was on the hard side, I enjoyed the added touch of including a fortune cookie at the end of the meal. My order also came with the soup of the day, sweet and sour soup. Normally I'm not a fan but this was delicious.
Ordered their lunch special “drunk noodle” which wasn’t that good. No flavour…. The spring rolls was pretty nasty too. Hot & sour soup was ok but could be better.
The owner is always passionate and ready to explode sure the customers are well taken care of. The food like it said fine tune to cater to the Canadian taste and generous portions. Very tasty still, clean. Make sure to get their VIP card to receive 10% off. Free parking and easy to find. Enjoyable for lunch and dinner.
Regular customer even though the establishment moved to a nearby community. Always a great meal to be had, either sit-down or pickup! Delicious variety of menu choices!
Pad see ew and Drunken noodle are delicious. The staffs are polite. The owner is very nice. My whole family likes this place. 10/10! Highly recommended.
Enjoyed a nice dinner here with family! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is nice too. Enjoyed the Chicken Panang Curry, Curry Pad Thai, Shrimp Spring Rolls, and Chicken Satays. Will definitely visit again!
Dishes were delicious with a good amount of each ingredient ie they didn't skimp on the meat. A bit pricey, but similar to other nearby restaurants. Staples such as pad Thai would rank near the top of any Toronto restaurant so that gets them a 5/5 rating.
New location is very nice and modern. The plaza has parking so its good to just run in and out when your in a rush. Ordered the lunch special. The food portion was large you get spring rolls/soup so its worth the price. Ordered some Pad Thai and other noodle dishes. Having been to Thailand, it was not to par with what I am use to. The pad thai sauce had ketchup which I think is a total No. No in Thai Cooking. Not as authentic as I'd like but the flavor was okay. For the price you cannot complain to much.
This restaurant is the definition of unpretentious QUALITY. Great food, great prices, great service. If you’re looking for a flashy, modern Thai place, go someplace else, but if you’re looking for delectable dishes at reasonable prices, you’ve found the place.
Ordered Massaman Beef Short Rib. When arrive home, no rice. Called Canadian Thai, I was informed that because it comes with potatoes it does not come with rice, although it clearly states served with rice. Poorly handled, did not even offer to provide rice or acknowledge the conflicting information. Lots of other Thai restaurants in my area. Thank you.
7 Nov 2021 Sunday lunch. Shop is not large while ceiling being high. It is just slightly south west of Don Valley Lexus. Traffic light are at the entrance of the compound. There seems to be free 3-hr parking for diners. Please call to check for sure. Seating is easy at this time but just one gentleman in the floor helping. He is nice and working industriously. Lunch Special is $1 extra for weekend. Try them on weekday next time. While Fish Cake and Pineapple Fried Rice are taken this time. The dishes are served fast and tasteful, presented decently with light music in the background. Cash enjoys 5% discount. A wonderful alternative for dining out in every aspect worth coming from afar. HKers may find acquaintance here. There are eateries nearby offering other varieties in case time is an essence! 13 Nov, Saturday update a photo after a tasteful dinner.
I only come here for take away but enjoy the quick service and most of all tastiness! We always get sichuan noodles or pad Thai and it’s always goooooood.
Been a regular at Canaian Thai for many years now (they moveved from John St.to new Steeles location recently) and thought it long overdue for a review. Helen the owner is extremely pleasant and always ensures I am happy with whatever my selection happens to be. There new location is really stunning and has great ambience. My go to, Red Curry is always hot, fresh and delicious. My partner loves their Crispy Ginger Beef and Pad Thai. Prices are very fair for quality and quantity. Thank you Helen and all the staff for providing a great local spot for a tasty Thai lunch or dinner. Keep up the great work
First 3 hours of free parking garage parking available.
Interior design is beautiful and clean; almost reminds me a lower grade of Lanna at downtown Markham.
The servers spoke Cantonese and English and were nice and friendly. Their service reminds me a bit of HK style cafes. However they did mess up my orders a few times: - Gave me coconut soup instead of tom yum soup - Almost gave me chicken Pad See Ew instead of beef (but I corrected them) - Gave me regular rice when I asked for an upgrade to coconut rice - Almost didn't give me the dinner combo as the server thought it was weekdays only - I was also not offered fortune cookies
Their drink menus don't list house wines by the glass but there were VQA Jackson's Trigg and Yellow Label for $8-9/ glass.
The Dinner Combo on their paper menus state that it is $22.99 however the server said it's Monday to Friday only (I came on a Tuesday) and that it was $25.99. I did get the combo at the higher price as I mentioned that today is Tuesday and the menu doesn't say it's weekdays only. I did confirm on their website of the increased price.
- Green curry with chicken Upgrade to coconut rice Coconut rice could be more coconuty.wasn't flavourful enough The green curry could be spicier The bell peppers were still crunchy The chicken was your typical Overall it was ok, similar quality as what you'd get from any downtown Thai restaurant
- Dinner Combo $25.99 Coconut veggie soup Chicken satay with green salad Pad See Ew with beef I did ask for Tom Yum soup but since they already said they made a mistake and gave me Coconut Soup, I just took it. It was ok. The broccoli could be softer. It seemed rather bland. The chicken satay meat was surprisingly not hard and dry like most skewers. But they could be a bit more generous on the meat. Their satay sauce was ok. Their Pad See Ew was not bad especially with their sauce. The noodles were still soft and tender. We almost expected broccoli instead of chinese broccoli. It wasn't too oily.
Overall the plating was nice, I just didn't think anything really wow'd me and the fact that there were so many mistakes made my experience a bit uncomfortable. But I'll definitely come back for a second try; they were nice and I did come an hour before their closing hour. They did politely say thank you and goodbyes.
Excellent food. Great service. Tables spaced to allow for social distancing. They are very accommodating if you don't want too much spice. Favourite dishes are crispy ginger beef, general tso chicken, Thai basil shrimp, crispy Cantonese chow mein, pad Thai. The lunch specials are delicious and affordable. They include hot and sour soup, spring roll, steamed rice, and your choice of many mains. They moved a little farther away, but it is worth the drive. Thanks Helen for another fabulous dinner for our family.
OMG! We are so happy we found this Thai restaurant. It brought back the authentic Thai taste we had experienced years ago. We ordered the beef satay, pineapple fried rice, and the green curry. All tastes great! The dining area is clean, spacious, and comfortable. Service is also excellent. The waitress and manager are very friendly and helpful. Food also come fast and piping hot. Highly reccommend if you love Thai food. We will definitely come back. This is now on our favourite list.: D
DISAPPOINTED! Satay was not as good as it used to be. Beef was hard to eat & chew as they now put one whole piece of meat rather than a couple of pieces on a skewer. Spring rolls were not crispy. There were just a few pieces of veggie & meat in their stir-fried noodles. Do not skimp on ingredients & cut corners to save costs as it will hurt the business in the long run. Hope they’ll make improvements.
Always great to order. More or less spicy, hot and ready when we pick it up. The service and taste are terrific. Looking forward to when they can host us at the new location with the beautiful restaurant.
AMAZING SERVICE AND FOOD! HIGHLY RECOMMEND GENERAL THAO CHICKEN WITH EXTRA SAUCE AND SWEET & SOUR SOUP! YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED, BY FAR MY FAVORITE THAI FOOD PLACE IN NORTH YORK!
Last night was our first time we visited this place. But It is obviously not the last time. We had great time with the attentive service, with the exceptional meal and fine drinks and with the modest pay. We will absolutely return there soon.
Fantastic environment and very amiable service. The meals were fresh and delicious. Will definitely recommend this spot to others. Reasonable prices and large meals. Keep up the great work.
We like this place for lunch we always come they have lunch special, price is good and the lunch menu has a lot of varieties.it comes with soup coffee and tea afterwards with the main course.parking is good.the servers are pretty friendly. I definitely would recommend this place
I under estimated the place. I believe all the eateries in this plaza is a must try. Their portion size was decent and their food quality was great. Their services was good too. You could try their lunch specials. Curries, Noodles, Chicken they all seem to taste really good. Must visit if in the area.
First time eating there. Outstanding meal had by both my husband and I with great service and good bang for your buck! Warm welcoming people with a large menu. Very simple shop like decor but well worth a visit - our new Thai favourite!
Amazing food and huge portions for their lunch specials. 10-12 bucks for lunch specials includes Salad, Soup, Rice, entree and spring roll. Can’t go wrong with that. Taste and service were top notch and highly recommend the place. I would go back again.
Food was well prepared and presented. Portions were perfect and, depending on your appetite, may be too much. I ordered the chicken pad Thai lunch special which was just over $12 with taxes and included soup, pad Thai, a spring roll and coffee, tea or water. Overall a good deal. Service was great and the place was very clean and comfortable.
Do not be deceived by the plaza this restaurant is located in. IT IS AMAZING.
Huge portions and friendly staff. The food is great.
We had the lunch special which included soup, salad, a spring roll, main dish and tea. We expected a broth soup. Something small. NOPE. We got a delicious coconut curry soup (so good we got extra to go). The portions here are HUGE, well worth the 12$.
The cashier was rude, and asked us to pay 15% tip. Even said they don’t pay their waiters and they only make money from tips! I didn’t pay any tip then!
Thai basil eggplant was amazing. Peanut tofu was a bit too sweet for me - though the tofu was so crunchy along with the peanuts. Yum. The lady advised that if we tell her next time she will adjust the sweetness for us. Will definitely go again!
I admire this restaurant very much.theres a nice feeling. The kitcen is wonderful.the service is dynamic and the crew is well trained. The pay is modest.very much recommend.
The food here is amazing! The best General Toa's chicken and szechuan spicy shrimp! I used to come here twice a week, when I worked in the neighborhood. Now I "pop in" for lunch when I'm even close to theneighborhood!
I eat here a lot since I work nearby. I must say the service is always good and they keep the place well organized regularly. Pricing is fair and they serve sizeable portions.
Located at john and Leslie this is one of the best thai restaurants in the area. They offer a wide variety of thai food at competitive prices. The pad thai is pretty good quality. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean and well kept and the food is cooked fresh.
I visit this lovely spot a lot! This is my favorite spot to pass a nice evening. I go there at least once a month. The cooking is very tasty, the crew is professional and the charge is fair. I like being in this spot over a tasty meal.
Slow service, dishes come out one person a time, menu is rigid, 1 person runs the whole front so it's hard to get your order taken or the bill. The worst though was the food. I couldn't even eat it.
I live in the area and am always up for good food. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in the beautiful neighborhood of German Mills. There is no need for pictures. The only need is to go try it if you havent before.get the dinner combo with the sweet and sour soup and springroll. The currys are to die for! Padthai is amazing.do yourself a favour.go try it.
Fast, friendly, delicious. Delicious food. Whenever I prefer they know me and my famil by first name. Such a. Lovely local restaurant! Thank you for being there!
The place offers a fantastic variety of fresh food. I liked dining here. Employees are always very welcoming, rates are affordable and the place is always neat.
