Terrible experience. I dont know if my "worker" was new or if this is how the building is organized and ran as a whole.

My first appointment the man hadn't even looked at the resume that I sent him a week prior as he scrambled when I walked in his office.only for me to realize I sent the wrong file, which was incomplete, which made my whole meeting a waste of time.
He would not let me go get the hard copy of my complete resume that I had forgot in my car, nor would he accept me to email him the correct one while I was sitting infront of him so we could review it together.

I left my appointment with him asking me to email my resume again, he asked me to recreate a new style of resume and booked an appointment for 2 weeks later.
Before leaving I made sure to mention again that I would appreciate his input on my current resume and would await his feedback to build the new style resume which I was requested to do.
I also informed him that I had an online interview (i don't have a computer at home) and he told me, "not a problem" and he would expect me the next day around 3: 45pm to use a computer.

Next Day. I get an email thanking me for my visit, sent me a bunch of links to send my resume but added that he wouldn't be giving me feedback on my resume until our appointment 2 weeks later.
. But I need the resume to apply to these jobs on the job boards.don't I?

I responded asking for my appointment to be moved ahead, providing with 3 dates and times, as waiting 2 weeks for feedback was unrealistic for me. Also mentioning again, I would see him later in the day for my computer time that we discussed.

His response: The dates I provided were ignored completely. Rebooking wasn't mentioned.
I was told to talk to someone at the front desk instead- someone who doesn't have my resume nor has spoken to me before. (so start from the beginning with someone new. What was the point to build a profile with this guy?)
Furthermore, he added (at 2: 38pm in his email - computer time is suppised to be at 3: 45pm) that he was unsuccessful to get computer time for me, for my interview.

This building is a waste of tax dollars.
There is no physical aid to help find work.
The advice they give can be given by anyone.
Maybe a good place fresh out of school with little knowledge of the workforce.
But someone who actually needs a job, is a go-getter, and proactive with progressivly moving forward in a time sensitive manner, this is not the place for us.

Lack if professionalism, commitment to their job, and integrity has me sharing with like-minded others to go somewhere else.
Terrible experience.

I took the Youth Job Connections program here, and was blown away by the great customer service, especially from the front desk. I was paired with a consultant almost immediately, and then moved forward with the services I was eligible for. Although Youth Job Connections is coming to an end, there are still other great useful services to help Youth enter the workplace.

I would highly recommend Barrie Career Centre to anyone in need of pre-job services, who is willing to work with one or more people to help them prepare for their next steps in their career journey. And it is especially helpful for Youth who have never been or are fairly new to the workplace.

Everyone here has been open, helpful and eager to serve. Best experience I have ever had at a government-run facility.

My time in the Youth Job Connection program was amazing, It helped me personally with skills and becoming more confident with my self in a interview by going through the correct ways of doing the interview. Also the environment was extremely friendly with all the welcoming staff by making greeting you every morning with a smile on they're faces.

Me and my classmates had a great time at this place! We learned lots of great things and were greatly taken care of, Wendy was a very good teacher and connected and educated students well. I met some great people in my class and I was impressed by the staff remembering and greeting me in the mornings. 10/10 I am going to recommend this to anyone I speak about work experience with "How do I get a job when I have no experience" YJC is the answer.

Was passing and went in for some information and was treated like I was a second class citizen, the Lady was so rude to me I left very upset and she seen I was upset. I never thought in Canada in a government run place I would be treated like this. Btw the information I was looking for she told me to look it up. Now if I was the Manager of that office I would be asking is dealing with people at front of house the right place for this individual. Oh and after she told me to look the information up she told me not to speak to her

I was a participant of the Youth Job Connection program and I would suggest this program to anyone eligible who is having trouble getting employed in Barrie. Especially if they are struggling with making social connections or experiencing insecurity in their ability.
Personally, this program introduced me to some of my now closest friends, reinforced my resume, built important jobs, and provided resources to get me back on my feet. I am extremely grateful to have been given this opportunity and I genuinely hope that there are others signing up right now who will get just as much out of it. The future is out there, you just need to take the firsts steps.

I Think the programs they have available to the public is amazing they have helped me get so far in my career path and personal life, The teacher was very helpful and understanding, I have learned some much about a work place and how to work effectively due to this program, I think it's super valuable to those who need the support.
My first job did not goes as I planned I didn't understand what was allowed and what wasn't, and was very upset with myself and felt lost and confused after joining this program and learning how I can better myself and my attitude, I have came out of this program more prepared and ready for work!
They also are the best for helping you get into a work place!
