Carter Veterinary Hospital

Moved to Bowmanville during Covid. I never thought I would be able to replace my previous Vet of 14 years. I did and my experience has been exceptional. The Vet Dr Carter is fabulous as are the wonderful staff. I’m so lucky to have found them.

I had an appointment a few weeks ago with Dr. Carter for my dog Mia's annual check up, as well as a problem area around her bum/tail area.
I'm honestly so speechless on how kind, compassionate and understanding they were towards Mia.
I wish I could remember the technicians name, but she was so amazing to deal with and gave Mia lots of love and attention.
I brought my dog in with a muzzle because she like to bark alot and can be reactive, she doesn't bite, but as a precaution I put her in the muzzle for everyone's safety.
I was nervous they would be alittle worried and hesitant around Mia and not be comfortable being near her because of the muzzle since ive experienced that at a different vet clinic before and that was very upsetting. But it wasnt like that at all here. When they saw her with a muzzle they did not even hesitate to show her the same kind of love as any other dog. While they made sure Mia was comfortable with them before approaching, they smothered her with lots of love, treat and pets when she warmed up to them. It was so refreshing and reassuring to see.
Dr. Carter was amazing, she explain everything in a way I would understand and went above and beyond to make Mia feel comfortable during her appointment.

As stressful as it is going out in public with a reactive dog, I still remember leaving with a smile on my face because of how genuine and kind both Dr. Carter and the technician were.

Again, I honestly can't recommend them enough and I just wanted to share my positive experience here and share how thankful I am for the kind and amazing service Mia and I received.

Can not say more amazing things about the vet. Every single person I have met that works here has been so kind and caring.
We have taken my senior rescue there a few times and they have been so thorough with their assessment while also taking their time to make sure my dog is comfortable and not scared. The receptionist, vet techs, dr’s etc are all amazing. Special thanks to Dr Alanna Flim & Dr Sarah Osborne for being so gentle with my scared pup:)

We had Shadow 1st visit on July 11,203. The technician took his information before seeing the Dr.is very knowledgeable, friendly, attentive.
The Dr. Alana Flim took her time, did not rush explaining all treatment needed to keep him healthy & happy, we adore her and would recommend everyone to visit with her.
Over all I give a 10 out of 10 to all the staff, from the front door to the back.

Carter's was very accommodating and understanding when we had to put our dog down. They have reasonable prices compared to our other vets we have dealt with. I even recommended them to my buddy who started using them for his three dogs.

Absolutely wonderful people here. I have rats and my previous vet of 20 years had just retired, so for me, it was hard to transition.

I came here with the direction of my previous vet and of course, he was right! From when you walk in all the staff was friendly and kind. The vet tech was so lovely and Dr. Carter herself was so professional yet compassionate. She took the time to explain everything to me as I'm the kind of person who likes to understand each choice.

They are quite familiar with rats and many have had rats in the past. As a rat parent, it's always more reassuring when the people we trust with our rats well being, have had that personal experience as well as professional. This was only my first visit, but I left with all the stress on my shoulders lifted and a sense of relief because not only are my rats in good hands, but the price is also so reasonable!

Welcoming and positive atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Prices are fair and appointment was on time. All staff were knowledgeable and our vet was fabulous. Highly recommend

LOVE Carter Vet! Everyone is so friendly and they do what's best for your animal- no 'upselling', as I have experienced with other vets!

They are the best people who you will absolutely love and so will your animals. I am really pleased with the care and understanding of the many questions and concerns about my dogs who are getting older and need more attention. As any concerned dog mom you may have lots of questions. And they're great at keeping me at ease as well as explaining things.

I have been here couple of times with my puppy. I am pleasant with this vet since the one I tried for the first time, I believe it was VCA, kinda force me to do a lot of things which didn't make sense to me, and I didn't feel right doing it. So far I have no complains with Carter Veterinary Hospital. They don't force you on anything, but tells you what is important for a puppy. Staffs are very friendly and professionally know how to deal with pets. First examination with a doctor was pretty long, well also because I asked lots of questions which by by way were answered pretty well. All the vaccines and non core vaccines were well explained to me so that I could choose what I needed for my puppy, depending on our life style. The doctor also went through with the diet that my puppy has, which is raw food diet, and explained what could be missing. I was told grain should also be included in the diet which I was not aware of. I wouldn't have known early enough if it wasn't for the doctor. I would still try this place and see how it goes, otherwise, I would recommend this place to others.

Very good experience overall. Reception desk friendly and helpful. Dr. Carter was professional and also very friendly. She took the time to review my dog's history and provide a thorough explanation on her condition. She was generous with her time and explanations. My dog was also a lot less anxious with her.

Fantastic spot, I've taken my dog to so many places that you leave feeling like you got over sold. But Carter's explains everything and gives you the choice on things that aren't 100% needed. Easily the best Vet in the area!

They do everything possible to care for your pet while respecting the owners wishes and pocket.

The best vet ever! My dog loves going here. They are very friendly and professional. We have been going here for 4 years now! They always give you options and you pick what is best for your best friend. I really like the way they run!
Also my dog loves them he enjoys going to the vet!

Carter Veterinary Hospital has been absolutely incredible and SO helpful with the care of our dog Blue. They go above and beyond to provide amazingly thorough and compassionate care and the vets and staff are always willing to do that extra bit of education and explaining for our family and our dog. We are so thankful to them! I couldn’t recommend this clinic enough!

Amazing staff, atmosphere, everything. A wonderful experience. My kitten and I will now call Carters our official Dr's office from here on out! Arrow, the clinic cat is a sweet and warm comfort for nervous kitties too ️

We took our Sheltie pup (Angus) in for his initial checkup yesterday. Our experience with both the reception and Dr. Kim Ward was extremely positive. Both were very knowledgeable and helpful in answering our many questions. We are looking forward to a long relationship.

Best place ever for your pets very caring staff and wonderful wonderful people and they take really good care of your animals

Dr Carter and her team love animals and their jobs- it really shows!
They do everything they can to help and get you in when needed. My pets are normally anxious at the vets but this welcoming atmosphere keeps them calm. Dr Carter explains everything and provides options.

I will give 5+ stars. Amazing staff. Very informative and caring towards my sweet Dallas. Very good examination and gave me a good understanding on things I can do. My precious dog was so content and didn't try to race out the door like she usual does. Prices are amazing. This is my new vet. Not looking back. Thank you to everyone who helped my baby girl today.

Can not recommend this place more! In the past year I took my 2 male siamese here. One got fixed, and the other had extensive dental surgery. The entire experience with Carter Veterinary Hospital was excellent. Its has been a while since I have delt with a vet that sincerely wants what's best for the animal, and this is feeling you get from everyone that works there.

I would like to say a very big Thank You to Dr. Carter and the Carter Veterinary Hospital. We recently had our first experience going there, with a very sick little hedgehog. Dr. Carter and her team were friendly, knowledgeable and very caring and gentle with our little Chip. I couldn't have asked for a better team to check him out. Though our little guy didn't make it, as he rapidly developed a genetic neurological disease, the Carter Veterinary Hospital did everything they could to make him comfortable. I was also very impressed upon receiving a card in the mail expressing their heartfelt sympathies on our loss of Chip. I appreciate that extra touch of kindness. I would highly recommend this veterinary clinic. Thank you again.

I'm not one to normally write reviews.however I need to give credit where credit is due. After experiencing 2 different animal hospitals, with 2 of my pets this past week. The difference in service that we received at Carter's Veterinary Hospital vs. Cavan Hills was like day and night.

Last week I brought my 18 year old cat in to see Dr. Carter. She had injured her leg at home by jumping down or falling off the counter. I had never been to this hospital before this incident.

Dr. Carter and her staff were immediately informative about all of our options (+ pros/cons of each) and costs. No surprises.

Dr. Carter and her staff called a few days after leaving her clinic to check on the well being of Emily, which absolutely warmed my heart. Unfortunately we decided it was best to bring her back in. Due to her age, what we think started as an injury had worsened to a declining state of suffering.

Dr. Carter told us a personal story of the loss of her kitty that resonated with our situation.and helped us make the hard, but necessary decision that was in the best interest of our furry loved one, and our family. Choosing to say goodbye to Em in our arms at their hospital and to let her rest in peace.was the best decision for our kitty and for our family.

It would have been awful to be trying tests and treatments for an 18 year old kitty, and that would also be financially stressful for our family. It would have unbearable to come home one day to find her passed without us being there with her. Dr. Carter talked us through all options & scenarios, and helped us feel confident and comfortable with our decision. She was an outstanding professional, and at the same time.she felt like a close friend.

Dr. Carter and her staff were incredibly empathetic, not just about the well being of Em, but about the best decision for our family.emotionally and financially. They were patient when we were saying goodbye. Dr. Carter was calming while we were in shock and grieving. I can not imagine having the experience and support that we did from Dr. Carter, anywhere else.

The care and support that this hospital gave our family was so personal and so special. I will be forever thankful. I wish I had also brought my dog to see Dr. Carter, but I will be doing so in the future.

Dr. Carter was the only veterinarian thatbwas able to get my dog up to comfortable state of being. She understood that money isn't always readily available for expensive surgeries and treatments. She was definitely the most down to earth understanding veterinarian we went to. Will go back for all of our animals in the future.

Best veterinary hospital around. They were there when I needed them the most. My 16 yr old black lab was dying in front of me and the squeezed me in right away. My own vet wanted me to wait until the next day to end my Harleys suffering! They were very compassionate and caring!

Very bad experience! All they want is your money. My cat was waiting all day for a bloodwork. They asked me not to let him pee, etc. I got here and they said it is not a good day for his bloodwork that my cat is in a lot of stress! I wonder why.and you are a vet and has no tools to calm a cat down?
Really.disappointing

I've been going to Linda & her phenomenal team with my fur babies for almost two years now. They've always gone above and beyond but today, the team was so good to my dog and I during a scary situation. I'm thankful for everything that Carter Veterinary Hospital has done for my three fur babies over the past two years.
