Castle John's Port Hope

What can I say? Visiting this place was very strange.we had very simple order and we were visiting from out of town on that night we decided to get some fish and chips, at first we did some research on Google and saw this place had good ratings, we went there to order and oooh my God. These people kept asking what you want.we said 2 pieces of fish and chips. One server took the order and left, different server came we had to repeat, and once again, they left, and the new serve came, and again, we had to repeat ourselves.mind you, we didn't do dine in.we requested take out for faster in and out.one server was looking at me wrong as if she had never seen a man before, and it made me and my friend very uncomfortable. I had to bear that feeling till I was out of the restaurant 20 min later.

The food was ok. We went for a quick take out. But the waitress who took the order was so weird checking out my partner from the time of taking order, reconfirming the order again and again till she handed over the food. We did not get it, if it was too hard for her to understand what we want? Soooo Weird as if she is watching a hot guy for the first time.

When we first came in the food and service was exceptional as we kept coming in the food has increasingly gotten worse. Our last visit we ordered the “jerk chicken” which was not your typical jerk chicken it was just chicken with a sauce on it. We sent it back and got it taken off our bill. Our server was really good about it. Tonight we ordered a steak and fries, the steak came out with some sort of gravy sauce on it, which wasn’t specified in the description. Upon cutting the steak it was more fat than meat. Only one bite was taken out of it and sent it back and we refused another meal, our server came back and told us they would only take 10% off our meal. We told her we would not be paying for it as there was one bite taken out of the meal. She then said she would take it off the bill. The 10% was what the owner told her to take off. Our server was really good about the whole ordeal. We will not be returning, the food is not great but the service is great.

We have ordered 3 times for business lunches and there have been mistakes twice. Once we did not receive any of the drinks we ordered and today, 2 of our sides were wrong. We ordered Caesar salad with 2 of the meals but they came with french fries. On top of that error, we were charged $4 for each of the missing salads. So $8 charged for food we never received. A refund was never offered when we called to bring it to the managers attention. The only solution offered was to have the salads on our account for next time but we don't feel comfortable ordering from here again.

Ants on the table, food was horrible and came down with food poisoning. DON'T EAT HERE

I wish I got the server/bartenders name. She was awesome, food was great, burgers and pasta an easy goto but the menu had a large variety so lots of choices to pick from. Enjoy

This place was great. Was visiting from out of town and the locals made us feel very welcome. It was very engaging and the karaoke was a blast

We went for brunch and the food was not good, the eggs benedict was overcooked and the avocado was getting pretty brown. I'm not too picky of an eater but I could only eat a few bites. My husband's cheese melt was too salty for him. That said, the price was so cheap and the fries and onion rings are pretty decent, so if you do decide to come just stick to regular pub food.

Obnoxious live music. Terrible food. Large numbers of flies. I had salmon. My wife had nachos. None were acceptable. The live music was unexpected and to our ears not pleasant.

Food was good except for the Cole Slaw. Didn’t like it at all. Loads of ribs on the 1/2rack & the wings were meaty. Reasonably priced too. Staff were cheerful & friendly. Wish I’d worn a sweater though as it was chilly. We’ll definitely go back.

Had a great experience today. I called ahead to see if they could accommodate a group of 9 and was able to pre-order our groups' meals for quicker service. Sarah was our server and was wonderful and provided excellent service. Really enjoyed my meal. Thanks again!

Really good food. I'm sorry I had to try the cobourg castle John's as ph skip was closed it was Horrible in comparison

Food is good but take out is never on time and quite often not correct. Waiting area need serious cleaning.

We saw the waitress twice. First when she took our order and then when she brought our food. No coming back to see how everything was. I had ordered the Sea Food Meal which was to contain shrimp, mussels, calamari and scallops. I had one scallop and no shrimp. When I was finally able to track down our server, I told her what happened with my meal. She said “Sorry about that” as she passed by me. No compensation offer or anything. Service is horrible would NOT recommend.

The best wings in Ontario period. I'm on a strict diet of Hot wings and beers and castle John's has been top notch.

Called ahead to pick up order, staff was very attentive and used my name (on order) when speaking to me. Food was very good

We were surprised at how bad our dinner was. We ordered garlic bread - no garlic butter and the cheese wasn’t melted so we sent it back. I ordered an ice tea and it was warm and watery. Our fajita came without fajita seasoning, the chicken was dry and the veggies were partly raw still. The air conditioning is apparently broken so the back door was open and when the train went by we all jumped. The seating at our booth wasn’t comfortable and too far from the table. The only good thing was our server, she was welcoming and friendly. We won’t be back

Wings were great for myself. My buddies were burnt, the waitress bad them replaced. Then they were short a few wings. Tje service was great otherwise. Drinks were cold and the waitress did everything to make it right. No complaints here. Will definitely be back

Waitress was ver friendly but service was very slow. A long wait to get food. One order was wrong. Did not want to wait to redo it. Very slow in bringing bill. Will probably not return.

No Air conditioning, broken, give me a break. First time there its was good, not so good this time, moving on.

Food is delicious but be weary of placing online orders! We have tried to use their online system twice now and have arrived to pick it up. They have a record of the order but it somehow isn’t communicated to the kitchen or there is a glitch in the system and we have had to wait an additional 20-30 minutes. Best to call if you want takeout.

Tonight I went for dinner with my boyfriend and my two young children as this has been one of our favourite spots since moving to port hope. Every time we’ve gone (which is at least once a week) every waitress has been fantastic, kind and genuine. We’ll tonight I had forgot my phone at the establishment and the waitress who served us by the name of Sam took the liberty to drive to my home after her shift to deliver my phone! I just thought that was the kindest and most caring and thoughtful thing to happen! She deserves a raise! Lol

Accidentally wrote this on the wrong one for cobourg which has much better service but the one in port hope is just bad. I work until 10pm and cannot drive, so it being right down the street I thought it was a good new place to go after work for a drink. This is the second time in the last month they’ve decided to close early because of little amount of customers. Not to mention they have an open sign on and the doors unlocked. Bad for reputation and customer service. Definitely not the proper thing to do. Could’ve made a good $100 every time.

Amazing service and the owner is awesome! Definitely recommend going there for dinner or lunch in port hope! Kevin and staff are the best!
