Castle John's Pub & Restaurant Newcastle

Waitress waa very nice and attentive. The food was very good but just a little dark in there.

Nous sommes allés à cette endroit pour une journée de pêche au gros poisson débutant à 5h am. Donc nous sommes partis de l’hôtel à 4h30 am. Le Tim Hortons à côté n’était pas ouvert alors à l’hôtel ils nous ont préparer pour la route un petit déjeuner; muffin, jus pomme, yogourt et café. Les chambres sont très propres et la douche incroyable. Nous avons bien dormi. À refaire!

Our server Aisha remembered us from 3 weeks ago. Even our drink order! My friend said she is making it her favorite spot now.

Food was really great, but the walls really need some work done to them. Lots of holes and old tape everywhere.

This place has become one of my favorite places to eat. Their caesars are delicious and the food and staff are awesome!

Food is great. There doesn't appear to be any air conditioning. We were sat on back wall. No air movement. We were all soaked with sweat. Again food was delicious.

Had a wonderful meal food was fantastic and the bartender/server Liz was amazing she was very welcoming and gave great suggestions for food I would definitely go back if ever in Newcastle again. Thanks Liz everything went well

Good food, great beer selection and the only place in Newcastle to play pool. Always a great night!

Wide variety of food to choose from, friendly service, and a great place to watch the game. There are also two pool tables so thats a bonus! Great experience overall.

The food here is mediocre at best and the place reeks of smoke and mold.

Highly suggest visiting other bars in the area and avoiding this place.

This is the 3rd Castle Johns I have visited and this one was excellent, Enjoyed a great lunch and had wonderful service from my server, wish I had gotten her name, Prices are reasonable for food and beer,

Such a great place with amazing fun and friendly service. The food is top notch! Comparable to high end restaurants, this place exceeds expectations and would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I will definitely be returning often.

I don't like to write negative reviews without first speaking to the establishment, but they've left me no choice. My wife an I ordered in from here the night before last, excited to try as it's the only restaurant in town we had not yet eaten at. When we opened my sons chicken nuggets I was disappointed that they looked burnt, which was confirmed by the need to break off pieces to eat them - you couldn't take a bite without it just snapping off. Not worth complaining about, these things happen, we thought. We then opened our nachos and were hit with the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. The smell was strongest on the outside edges, like someone had come back from a smoke break and immediately packaged them, so we only ate the ones in the middle and discarded the rest. The nachos were okay so again, we didn't want to complain.
My (vegetarian) wife was enjoying her vegetable wrap and fries, when she (a little disgusted) pulled a half-cooked chicken wing out of the middle of them. She decided that was enough to want to talk to the restaurant, after not being able to reach anyone by phone we sent an instagram message. Seen, no reply, still 2 days later. We thought maybe instagram was not monitored so sent a Facebook message. No reply. Finally, last night, my wife was eating the leftover wrap (the chicken wing ruined her appetite so she saved the wrap for the next day) when she suddenly spat it out into a napkin. Looking down into the inside of the wrap was a large piece of bacon.
We called again and this time managed to get through. When we mentioned the chicken wing the response was "oh it probably just fell in" - no apology, just an excuse. We thought perhaps she didn't understand that my wife is vegetarian so could be (and was) very ill if she ate meat so pressed that a little, and the woman on the phone said it was a busy dinner rush right now so could she call us back in a couple hours to discuss. Here we are, a day later, still no call.
Mistakes happen, I get it. Thankfully it wasn't a food allergy. What I can't forgive is the complete lack of response when issues were brought up.

TLDR: Blatant disregard of safe food handling, cross contamination, and accountability. Avoid this place if any of these things matter to you, and go to Walsh's Snug or Massey House in town - great people with great food.

Normally, we can count on the food we order. Usually quite delicious. However, tonight I was deeply disappointed. We ordered 2 Mozzarella Sticks and they were so overcooked there was literally no mozzarella in them and they were hatd as rocks! So disappointed.

Ordered from Ubereats, received extremely undercooked chicken and have been vomiting the contents of my stomach for hours.

Food is consistently fresh and delicious. I order from here at least once a week, and it never lets me down. I've tried almost everything on the menu and love it all!

Order pretty much on weekly basis to support our local businesses during this pandemic. Usually good service. On a $70 take out order they missed a point of wings. Called back and they said I could order them again and come pick them up in 20 minutes. Never going back.

I went this evening for dinner.with my friends.foods were delicious and the service was awesome. Thank you. U guys are rocking.

Great service, staff is awesome. Food is very good. Great value for your money. They also welcome families with children. It is nice to see a place that is affordable for local families and seniors on a limited income to be able to enjoy a meal out.

Staff and food are always amazing. The Grilled Vegetable is AMAZING, be sure not to miss out on that!

I enjoy restaurants that have unique and tasty foods. Castle John's has great food and specials throughout the week to save money.

Great food and atmosphere, been coming here a long time. Can get really busy, but if Tanya and Jess are working they can handle any situation through their sheer hard work. Always stellar service.

I chose Castle John’s over another restaurant in the area based on menu choices and reviews. The staff was friendly. The place needs a good clean from a door off the hinges in the ladies bathroom to a Christmas tree, boxes and pieces of broken furniture stored outside the door. When the waitress delivered the food she apologized by how it looked and said that they were “training a new cook”. She said that she had even tried to make it “look better”. Thanks for the sentiment but if I was the waitress it would not leave the kitchen. The club sandwich didn’t look like a club and the ingredients were sub par. My Ruben tasted very good but there was one or two pieces of pastrami at best. While I realize that this was pub food I would have expected a higher quality. The new cook needs to be trained on food presentation which is equally as important as the taste. The waitress should have sent it back to be remade. She knew and even apologized. I was a bit surprised.

Where's the 6 star button? This place is amazing! Great staff, great food and great atmosphere! I especially love how anywhere you look, you can see a TV and there is always a multitude of games on!

Great food! Selection is huge, and every dish I've had so far has been delicious! Love their ribs and pulled pork in particular. Drinks are good, and staff is very nice. Sometimes we get seated weird but I'm sure there is some system I don't understand. Staff is always awesome, and welcoming. Wing night is super busy, and wings are good! Castle John's is a place I frequent!

Spectacular bar for a small town. Castle Johns is always the bar to recommend; great food, great prices and the most friendly staff.

The first time we went was amazing overall but these past few visits have became worse. Our server was terrible with greeting us and serving our food that another server had to get our cutlery, food and drinks. The food was delicious however having to get the server to stop chit chatting with her coworkers to get drinks and cutlery is quite unprofessional.

The service is exceptional here. The wait staff are engaging, kind, knowledgable and go out of their way to provide an excellent experience. Always feels very welcoming.

Food wise: the wings are the best. Dry rub roasted garlic

Peterborough. Not so sure.the food has great reviews and I can't really comment because I've really only had basic stuff that you can't mess up such as ceasar salad and a rueben. The service at lunch hour has never been good the 3 times I've been there. Slow.unfriendly.and almost like I'm being an inconvenience. Maybe because I ordered take out? The first visit we had to wait an entire hour for our food when we ate in. Had to take it to go because we needed to get back to work.ate at my desk. Too bad 3/3 is kinda bad.

Decent food, not so great service with the waitress denying a special order right at the table, without actually verifying if the cooks could accommodate the very simple request.

First time there. Friday evening and the line up was out the door and for good reason. The food was fabulous! Very casual atmosphere so you don’t have to dress up. The staff were great and we had a blast there. I can’t wait to go back.

Have never had a bad meal and the service is always great! Menu has something for everybody. Rack of Lamb to Chicken wings and sweet potato fries. Great for the kids too.

This was my first time at Castle Johns at New Castle and I must say I was very happy. The food was amazing, portions are great. My boyfriend and I couldnt even finish everything that we ordered. So yummy. I DEFINITELY would recommend the pulled pork poutine! Will come again for sure.

Excellent value and tasty pubgrub, served by a happy staff. Lots of happy boisterous working type clientell. Not fancy but perfect for a local quick drink or dinner.

Service is extremely slow over an hr for food. Waitress are not very helpful or even check on you to see If you need a refill. Idk how the food is cause it's been an hr still waiting. Service sucks here!

Overall wonderful place. Huge selection of delicious food, a large selection of beer, cocktails and pops. Has a really nice atmosphere to it. And the staff are always friendly and efficient.
