I've known the store for over 10 years now. They consistently exceed all expectations in professionalism and the overall quality of their services. My recent order for foul weather gear required several exchanges and backordering of necessary items before I finally found the perfect fit. Despite incurring significant shipping expenses on the part of the store and the time it took to complete the order, everything was handled with exceptional patience and with my best interests in mind. Has a wide selection but a lot of the electrical components are only available in ones or twos or they're just out of stock. I came for two rocker switches I found on their website, but they only had one in the store and it was the wrong colour. Their selection of stainless fasteners is of better quality than most of the big box hardware stores

Love this store. Staff is always helpful and friendly. If they don't have something they can order stuff in sometimes.

Huge inventory, they will have what you need. If something is not in stock they can source it for you. Online shopping is seamless as well. Shipping is prompt and packaged with great care. Overall, a great experience would recommend.

Full story:
Placed an order for eight items. Two days after placing the order I was informed that four of the items were not in stock despite the company website indicating that the items were available. I was not given an option to modify the order. The items were then back ordered and I was informed that they would arrive "some time next week". This turned into five weeks during which time the company was not responsive to email or voice messages. When the order finally arrived it was incomplete. Apparently the company was unable to fulfill my order so they simply shipped the order incomplete and credited my credit card for the missing item WITHOUT INFORMING ME. Upon reviewing my credit card statement it was revealed that the company overcharged me $30 on the original order which I am still trying to get resolved.

Got some lines and battery cables done, and just picked them up.

The eyes and whipping are incredibly well done; the shackle on the main halyard (which on a quick try seems to fit like a glove) is fantastic, and the masking tape labels referring to my supplied list of requested items and details are a little added bonus - they made my life easier.)

No response to emails of phone calls. Placed an order in Feb, not a single response from them despite repeated attempts.

We had a very unpleasant experience today. We went with the intention of spending several hundred dollars, including a new shore power cable, but instead walked out after five minutes without spending a dime. The store looks closed / out of business from the outside, with the main sign removed and only a small sign in the window. The inside was about the same, with boxes strewn all over the floor, empty shelves, no price tags or signs, and a general impression of disrepair. If they were undergoing some kind of renovation, there was certainly no sign to that effect. There was also no apology for the mess from the salesperson, who looked up from behind the counter when we came in but never said a word - not a hello, how are you, can I help you find something - nothing. On the way out we passed a female staffer in the aisle who couldn't even be bothered to make eye contact, let alone speak. As another reviewer said, we felt very unwelcome. If we're not appreciated as customers we'll take our money elsewhere. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression, and this one was not good. There will be no second chance.

Shipping was prompt. They may be a wonderful store to deal with in person, but beware of online shopping. I emailed them after receiving what appear to 1-1/4" spinnaker pole ends instead of the ordered 1-1/2" ones but heard nothing back for over a week (and still waiting). Same thing when I'd once emailed asking about small turning blocks, that question must have been about items too small to even merit a response. Trust me, other large marine suppliers actually reply to queries. Sometimes Chandlery website has an item the others don't list, but the other guys will order stuff in quickly based off just a part number (they have access to massive catalogues of stuff beyond what's on their website). Lesson learned.

I bought three cans of $65 marine paint for my canoe, not knowing how much I would end up using. Before paying at the cash, I asked Matt if I could return the paint if it turned out I purchased too much, and he very nicely said “yes, no problem at all, just bring the receipt! ”. I happily made my purchase thinking that I would be getting my money back for any extra cans of paint.

When I went to return two cans of paint 10 days later, I was told I could only receive store credit, and that the return policy was only 5 days. When I said Matt never told me this, the guy handing the return told me I should have read the receipt, and that it’s not Matt’s responsibility to tell me the return policy.

I will be exchanging this store credit for cash with a future Chandlery customer on Kijiji, sharing with them my terrible experience in the process, and never purchasing from this archaic store again.

If you ever need it. Or think you need it. They have it. Or can tell you where to get it. Or offer a substitute. Only wish I lived closer. The staff are TOP NOTCH.

I recently bought a 12v 6 gallon per minute pump with 60 psi, intended for use at the lake. It was about $350.00. I connected up the hoses as per instructions and the pump would not push water on the first attempt. I substituted my own pump and it worked fine.
After many frustrating attempts to contact someone at the Chandlery I finally was able to leave a message for Steve, the general manager. My intent was to switch the pump for a more powerful model and obtain credit for the model I bought. The discussion was very brief and I was told that the fact that I had used the pump (used being slightly optimistic) rendered it ineligible for return and, further, these pumps are only designed to be used in systems involving potable water, a comment which mystifies me, given the many uses I saw for the pump when searching for a new one. I now have a brand new $350 pump, still in the box with the bill, which Steve barely saw fit to converse with me about. Terrible customer service and return policy.

Communication is terrible. Waited twice over 4 days for return phone call and never got a return email.
I ended up ordering a Holt Allen bailer (almost $100) after calling to find out more about it. I even asked about the thickness of hull that it fit and was told that they did not know. So I ordered it anyway and thought it should fit but if not I would return it.
It arrived and turns out it needs a 7.5 mm thick hull and mine is only 6 mm. So after 4 days and 4 phone calls (which you only get voice mail) and an email, I finally got a call back. They say CLEARANCE items are not returnable even if I'm purchasing another more expensive replacement. Apparently that is common knowledge, although it not announced on the website. So because they have limited product knowledge and don't communicate I am stuck eating $100. Never deal with them again

Just received my order, one free shipping and now what sets them apart from the well known others. The packaging of the product, every item was wrapped to prevent any leakage and packed tightly, first class. I have ordered spillable items from others to open package where the stuff was flying around inside broke and spilt or missing item they said was shipped.
They followed up with an email telling me of a delay on one item. At the same time I placed an order with the other one in eastern Ontario have not heard a thing and they definitely need a lesson on how to pack a parcel. I would have boughten everything here, however 2 items were not listed that I needed

Was told I could not return a winch. I am not sure if this policy is due to covid, but having such a strict return policy is inconvenient when dealing with boat parts that may or may not fit. I was able to get my winch from a competitor that did accept returns (the winch fit, I did not need to return it, I just wanted the piece of mind). Very long line ups outside due to Covid restrictions. I waited about 40 minutes on a Tuesday morning.

Small shop with a significant online presence and quick turnaround for curbside pickup. When questioned, the knowledgeable staff have had options to solve every challenge I have brought to them. And the prices really are competitive in keeping with their policy of not being undersold.

I really appreciate the effort the team at the Chandlery has done to make shopping safe for customers during Covid 19. Some may say it is excessive compared to other stores; however, you can clearly see they are working their tails off making things as fast and convinient as possible for the customer. I wish other stores were this thorough with their Covid 19 response.

Order online if you can, they ask the lineup regularly if folks are waiting for an online order. Turn around time is very quick for those.

Hoping we can go back to the good old days soon. The Chandlery's service had always been exceptional, very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

I came in looking for the wherewithal to create a hoist that could transfer my wife from her wheel chair into the passenger seat of my pickup so we could take a ride in the country. Steve was very helpful indeed after I explained my mission. Unfortunately my wife declined unexpectedly fast, and died before I managed to get this thing right. I will proceed anyway to make it work, as I think many people have loved ones they would like to take for a ride and not by renting a wheel chair compatible vehicle. Thank you Steve.

Excellent customer service. I purchased some items online, one item didn't seem to be working and Steve was prompt with helping me find a resolution, and when it wasn't fixed he refunded the amount of the item and the shipping when the product was returned. Thank you!

Not a huge variety of stock in store which is not a big issue, but aloof and not friendly service.

Helpful staff and a well stocked chandlery. Most items you need are in stock and the senior staff are really knowledgeable. Bring your wallet:)

Their selection of rope, cordage etc is unbeatable. Only place i know of in Ottawa that sells AmSteel. Great staff. What a neat store!
