Chanterelle Bistro

We had a wonderful dinner tonight. First time at Chanterelle. Impressed with white linen table service, fabulous service, ambience, and reasonably priced. "Downtown restaurant" just around the corner from home. We will be back. Thank you!

This has to be one of the best overall restaurants in Bowmanville, Ontario. As soon as you arrive you are greeted by a warm friendly smile and asked if you would like to have your coat taken. That seems to be a rare experience these days and it is a nice touch and a great start to the dining experience.

The service was incredible. Very attentive, detail oriented, very friendly, pretty much everything you can ask for in a nice dining experience.

My wife had the salmon and I had the prime rib. Both dishes were excellent.

We had the flourless chocolate brownie for dessert with some house-made ice cream. It was off the hook.

I meet the best server “Nokey”, she is so kindly, and told me a lot of history about this restaurant. The food there is fantastic, looks beautiful. We spent the great time with my friends. I will come back again.

This was our first visit to Chanterelle Bistro! We were so impressed with the friendly greeting by the hostess. We did not have a reservation but we got a table quickly. The table was a bit tight but for not having a reservation we were just happy to get a seat! I would advise to make a reservation if you are concerned about space for seating as some of the tables are close together. The atmosphere is warm, clean and there were a mix of families and couples. Our server was lovely and helped with letting us know about the menu, specials and making a wine selection. We had bread provided at the table and that came with a homemade hummus so delicious. We ordered the crab cakes which came with a corn relish, they were very tasty and had good presentation. For dinner we enjoyed shrimp and scallops and prime rib. Everything was cooked perfectly and arrived hot. We will definitely be back again and appreciate having such a little gem so close to home! Thank you for the great service and food!

Attended the Afternoon Tea at Chanterelle and it was a great experience.
Lots of tea options so everyone was happy. Beautifully arranged and lots of options for the food menu. You will leave full and having had a great unique experience.

Very nice place in downtown Bowmanville. Service was incredible, Emily was amazing. Drinks are good, food took a while but it was worth the wait. I look forward to bringing friends and family here to share the experience.

Disappointing. Had the pickerel special however must have been a small catch as it was an extremely small serving. The potatoes were suppose to be scalloped however no one at our table recognized them to be such. My husband had the fettuccine and said it was good and my mother had the tenderloin and she really enjoyed it.

The lamb is very tasty as is all their food.

Extremely disappointed!

We had dinner here last year for our Anniversary because we had such amazing experience. Our server was fantastic and she made it very memorable. We even got dessert with fancy writing on the plate, so we decided to return.

Last night, when we arrived the hostess acknowledged our Anniversary but once we were seated our sever never even asked how we were doing or if we were celebrating anything.

We waited almost 45mins for our meals to be told they made a mistake, then watched other tables being served that arrived long after we did. I don’t think Ive eaten so much table bread in my life.

Not sure how you screw up spaghetti and meatballs? Plus there was no buffalo mozzarella in the meatballs.

We paid over $100 for an unpleasant experience on our anniversary, which only comes once a year.

We will definitely not be returning.

Another wonderful dinner at Chanterelle.
I had the Lobster bisque and Gnocchi while my wife had the Salmon. Everything was beautifully presented and tasty. Emily our server was both pleasant and professional and made our experience all the better.

Derek, I wanted to thank you and your staff for another outstanding meal from your restaurant. Last week we decided to pre-order from the Valentines Day menu for pick up - since we aren't able to dine in at the restaurant at the moment. Being in Courtice, we were a little concerned about the drive home and whether the food would survive it) but we decided to risk it and try it anyway.

It's important to note that we have been visiting your restaurant for years (and have never been disappointed with the food or the service - both are top notch) but this would be the first time we would be picking up and driving our food home.

Last night we arrived at the restaurant at 5: 20 (our pick up time) and the food was packaged and ready to go so we could leave almost as soon as we arrived. Everything was individually packaged in take out containers and was ready to eat as soon as we got through the door.

All of the meats (beef and chicken) were cooked to perfection and my fish delicious. I was surprised to see you included your bread and hummus in the package (which is always included at the restaurant when dining in) and the desserts were to die for.

We definitely plan on doing another take out option in future (if we aren't able to dine in) because the process of picking up and bringing the food home did not take away from the quality, presentation and taste of your food.

** Update since new owner Becky has taken over: The team at Chanterelle Bistro continue to impress me with their high level of service and quality of food. Becky has been working hard behind the scenes to introduce some new things to the restaurant (including a Saturday tea service) and many take out options. Thank you Becky for continuing to build on what Derek started! We love coming to visit and you are by far our favourite restaurant in Durham!

Went for Valentine's day dinner. It was absolutely amazing. From start to finish a fabulous meal! Highly recommend.

Recently went for our 2nd time. We went here 5 years ago and it was great back them. We waited 45 mins for 2 simple appetizers. The crab cakes were not good, the corn relish tasted like it was canned corn or frozen corn? The oysters were 4 of the smallest tasteless oysters I have had. The prime rib was tender but the potatoes were dry and the texture was that they had sat on the plate for some time. Was very disappointed with the food and atmosphere. Even the Décor was cheaply done. Would not recommend.

Valentine's dinner last night was perfection! Have always had wonderful meals at Chanterelle and last night was no exception. Special occasions can sometimes be tricky with rushed service and poorly prepared food, but we had a delicious and perfectly timed experience. Cocktails, including a custom request, were enjoyed before our meal. Our group loved crab cakes and salads for apps and the rack of lamb, seafood stew and surf and turf for mains. The dessert for each was a variety of a chocolate-dipped strawberry, tiramisu, a macaron and creme brulee. Wonderful evening with friendly and just-the-right-amount of attentive service.

The place was clean and welcoming, the server pleasant and attentive.
The food was overpriced for the quality and serving size.

My girlfriends and I were just here celebrating my birthday! Everything was great! Food was delicious and the service was wonderful. My crème brûlée was the best!

My favourite local spot! Every time I have come to Chanterelle it has been a great experience! The food is fantastic and the dessert is to die for. I didn’t even know I liked butter tarts until I tried theirs! I have had a few different mains and they are all good - you can not go wrong with anything - my personal favourites are the gnocchi or the Cornish hen.

Chanterelle Bistro is our go to place for special occasions. I have celiac disease and have to be totally gluten free and this is basically the only restaurant I know that I feel completely safe eating at. And the food is absolutely amazing. Every dish I've tried is so delicious and the quality is fantastic. The staff is also wonderful and so accommodating. I cannot say enough good things about this Bowmanville treasure! Keep up the good work.

What a beautiful restaurant! The staff was fantastic at accommodating our larger group with food allergies and restrictions. There was an option for everyone and every dish was delish! Book ahead to make sure you get a table!

Went for a celebratory dinner and it was fantastic as usual! Our server, Noki, was so sweet and friendly! We requested last minute reservations on an already busy day and still had amazing service. The food is always incredible! Must try the lobster risotto when you go!

Five star experience! The food was delicious, the staff was very knowledgeable about gluten-free options, and the service was wonderful! We will be back again!

Pleasantly surprised to be introduced to this small town gem that would easily compete with the best of Toronto restaurants. Also priced way under what the same food, experience and service would cost in Toronto. Well done!
