Chartwell Avondale Retirement Residence

Enjoyed the informative tour given us by the energetic and charming Spinola D'Souza. The Residence (and the residents!) was a cheerful place. It had that well staffed feeling. The interactions of staff and residents were warm and welcoming. We were impressed!

Want to say a big Thank You to all the caring and professional staff at Avondale. Our parents have been residents for about 5 weeks now and they are both so happy. The care and support has been incredible. We can't thank you enough! It feels just like home for us when we visit and they are feeling right at home there too in such a short period of time. Everything at Avondale is so lovely and clean and the staff so friendly and helpful.

The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and most welcoming. My brother used a respite room for 2 weeks when he recovered from knee surgery. His overall experience was supberb and I can highly recommend the home for either a short or long stay.

Extremely disappointed! Was lied to about a lot of things! The food is not pleasant at all and when my mom first came she was left in her room no one ever tried to help her find her way there. Then I had covid and couldn’t come to give her medicine and was told I could still come aa long as I wore a mask! They wouldn’t even just give her medicine and help her She is mentally fine but can’t see well due to glaucoma so all they needed to do was take the pills out of her pill daily box and put in her hand. The woman on duty that day a British woman was so horrible I was crying from this! From day 1 this has been a nightmare. My mom’s first week she pressed her help button due to questions she had and she needed some help and didn’t understand they called me to say I would be charged every time she pressed her help button! That’s ridiculous she just got there and needed some help. I am reporting this facility to the ministry and also to the Chartwell corporate office. This caused my mom to end up at Mt Sanai. They take your money and ask you tight away “please give us a great review “. So when you actually see how it is you won’t give a terrible reference like I am. Beaware also they tell you they have a doctor that sees your loved one. WELL THATS ANOTHER LIE. Once my mom was there I was told the doctor isn't taking any new patients! And finally if you like cigarettes perfect! They have the same resident every day sitting right outside smoking! Literally right out front of entrance so you get to smell wonderful smoke when you come in! They do nothing again just take your money!

Went to the Open House at Avondale today. What a lovely place! Extremely clean and inviting. I was greeted warmly by the Staff, especially Spinola who took me on a tour of the Residence. The 2 lovely gentlemen/ambassadors (residents) at the door were cheerful and friendly. The resident's floors and some rooms have been renovated giving the place a nice new, fresh look. If you are looking for a place for your loved one, Avondale seems like a really nice place to be. I would highly suggest you check this place out.

The team taking care of my mother has been amazing and helpful. They're all very attentive, respectful and dedicated to make the stay there as comfortable as possible. I'd recommend it to anyone who has a loved one in need of caring.

Met and spoke to Rodrigo Pasion, Food Service Manager and he is amazing! He ensures that meals tastes great, nutritious and full of variety. We were also able to discuss other Chartwell Avondale services, amenities as well as the quality of care and support services they provide and without any doubt, it is the premier retirement home in town!

Working as a receptionist at Chartwell Avondale has been an enriching and wonderful experience. I was welcomed warmly by the Avondale staff from the day I started, especially the office manager, Chandrani, who has been a great mentor and leader. I am happy to be able to work with a team dedicated in making their residents feel at home and happy.

Chartwell Avondale was introduced to me by Rodrigo Pasion to me and showed me this beautiful facility of a retirement residence, which i was wanting to look for in case for my mom whose in her 80s might be a good fit as she is still very independent living her life on her own, at the moment, with my brother, but might need it in the future, and Mr Pasion was very eager to recommend this facility he is working so fondly here and knowing how well the company takes care of the elderly.

So very happy with the complete level of care at Chartwell Avondale. My mother continues to be very happy since she moved in. The level of care and professionalism of staff is outstanding. It truly is a great community, a place she is happy to call home.

I have been goin going to Chartwell many times to visit my Mother in-law. I am very impressed with the cleanliness of the home as well it is very well organized. My mother in-law likes it very much and i can see why. Thank you for support and keeping your home so clean and friendly.

I was looking for senior care for my brother and looked at Chartwell Avondale because it’s close to us and well rated. Spinola D’Souza was terrific and provided so much help understanding what would be involved in a move to Chartwell Avondale. A tour showed a well cared for facility that had all resident needs considered. Spinola was such a delight to work with. If you’re looking for senior accommodation, I highly recommend looking up Spinola. She’s terrific.

Residents are fortunate to have Rodrigo Pasion as Food Service Manager. He takes great pride in working at Avondale Chartwell residence and is very knowledgeable in quickly explaining the available stay and care options Chartwell Avondale offers.
Now, Chartwell-Avondale is my number one retirement home that I will recommend to my family or friends if needed in the future. Plus Rod's expertise as a chef, sure the residents are pleased with the healthy and delicious food Rod prepares for them every day.

I had a health issue in the summer of 2022. My children felt that I should be closer to them while I recovered from survey. My children found Chartwell Avondale in their area and they organized so that I could have a 3 month stay at Avondale. During my stay, I found the staff and other residents to be extremely open and friendly. When my stay was up, I was sad to leave all my new friends. Avondale is very much a community and it creates its own family atmosphere. I live 3 hours north of Toronto and regularly visit my children in the city. Often when I am down, I make the trip over to Chartwell Avondale to visit my friends. If anyone is looking for a retirement community, or a place for respite care, I would strongly recommend Chartwell Avondale.

I don't know where to begin to sing praises of this amazing retirement residence. Chartwell Avondale has been home to my mother for over a decade and it has been above and beyond amazing in every single capacity! The residence itself exudes a warm loving environment with it's gorgeous rooms and wonderfully tasteful decor. It is kept impeccably clean as the staff does an amazing job keeping it incredibly well maintained! At the helm is Rebeca, Avondales Manager, who is absolutely spectacular and runs an amazing ship! She is professionally phenomenal, incredibly positive and happily approachable. In our experience she has always been accessible to help with any queries or needs. The staff is extraordinary, I wish I could list them all by name as they are honestly our family. We love each and every one of them. Beyond warm and loving, they are all so caring and wonderful, words cannot even express! They treat every single resident with the most loving respect and deepest compassion. I would highly recommend Avondale to anyone looking for home for their loved one as it has been a wonderful one to my mother.

Chartwell Avondale is the best place to work because Chartwell Avondale has great management, great team work, and friendly work culture. Rebeca is General Manger. She listens to employees well, understands employees without our explaining the details, and gives us recognitions when we work hard. So do all managers. Other employees are very supportive and kind one another. I have never been bullied or nobody says mean things to me. Residents and families are wonderful and cooperative to Avondale. We are appreciated everyday. I am grateful for being a part of this wonderful team and beautiful community.

The staff at Chartwell Avondale are all incredible, especially Spinola and Rebecca who manage the facility. They made my Mom feel welcome and went above and beyond to accommodate her needs and get her out of a difficult situation. They took the best care of her so she could live her life independently and supported her when she needed it. This is special place and I highly recommend it for someone who wants to give their parents the little extra care they may need while still being very independent. They have my gratitude for everything they have done for us and are very kind, authentic people.

Avondale provided my Mother with a wonderful & safe home. The entire staff, including Rebecca & her management team, were all so kind & truly caring people, who went above & beyond everyday to make all the residences feel comfortable & at home. The location was amazing, (with parks, cafes & groceries close by) & her apartment was also spacious & clean.
I would recommend Avondale to anyone who wants to keep their independence but have the comfort & support of the outstanding staff to ensure all your health & living needs are taken care of.

I had a tour with the wonderful Spinola D'Souza. What a hostess! I loved the facility very much. The staff were all so happy. Great Sign. Spinola was so accommodating and professional. Loved her! I was ready to move in myself instead of my Mother!

This is a nice place. I have been here for almost 3 years. I have been treated with respect and that is important to me. The location is good and the staff are nice.

Our mom moved into the residence very recently and it’s been a very positive experience for her and for us. The staff are so friendly, kind and professional and they’ve been instrumental in helping her transition to a retirement living community. My brother and I feel such a sense of relief knowing she’s well looked after, that she’s enjoying herself and engaging with other residents. Thanks to everyone at Chartwell Avondale!
