My Mother moved to Scarlett Heights a year ago. From the day she arrived, the residents and staff (in particular) could not have been more welcoming. I cannot say enough about the kindness and support they have offered to both of us during what has been a challenging time. With COVID ending, many of the normal activities/amenities are happily making a comeback.

At Scarlett Heights, we are a team committed to the safety and well-being of our residents ; we are a family

The manager is an unnecessarily rude person to delivery people. Has no regard for anyone delivering items to this building. It is an absolute nightmare. She goes out of her way to make their lives harder than it already is. Shame on you.

I am not one to post reviews but after my recent experiences I felt that I needed to share. Both my parents have been living at Chartwell for the past two years as they have been challenged with both Alzheimers and Dementia. Recently my fathers health has taken a downward turn and we didn't feel as if their needs were being met. A meeting was Scheduled with both Dorothy Persaud (Wellness Manager) and Kerry Stewart (i believe the GM). We had a very productive meeting where we disclosed our concerns and inquired how Scarlett Height could assist in future care. Both Dorothy and Kerry listened intently and promised to come back with an action plan. A second meeting was scheduled 5 days later and to my astonishment all items raised were brought back up and addressed. Without going into detail it is suffice to say that they went above and beyond. They set forward an action plan that included PSW care augmented with their own wellness checks, a companion that spends time with my father to allow my mother to leave the unit and be more social.
I left the meeting feeling a huge weight off my shoulder. I cannot end this without giving some props to those team members that have an input in making our parents lives better.
Nimmi, Maria, Clarissa and Janet (front reception) are very welcoming and kind.
Nurses Myrna and Ester who are very patient and ensure medication is provided
And finally Barbara who cleans the suite. She has a fabulous and welcoming smile that puts my parents at ease.

I have been familiar with Scarlett heights for the past few years through my organization. The staff are attentive and approachable. I have had many interactions with the front desk staff - Charisse and Nimi as well as Spinola who is the office manager - they are friendly, professional and always ready to answer any questions you have. The same with the other staff at the residence including the excellent nursing staff. The building itself is bright and spacious. There are many daily activities for the residents to choose from to keep them engaged.

Just wanted to dropped my appreciation to Chartwell Scarlett Heights Retirement Residences - Etobicoke for accepting me to do my practicum as a PSW student. The On-the-job training ground experience is phenomenal! Thank you to my preceptor Analisa Blanco for spending her time teaching me diligently from proper communication - to GPA - to - actual hands-on to the residents with cognitive impairment (dementia/delirium).

Above all, to Portia Lobrin who is a down to earth, supportive, and approachable manager.
The work in memory living site is not easy, every individual in the site has a role to make everyday work successful! Passionate. Dedication. Teamwork. Teamplayer. SMILE!

We had a fantastic tour of Scarlett Heights this week. Thank-you, Marco Cerenzia for the tour. The facility and amenities - crafts room, library, movie theatre and activity room looked very inviting. Having rooms for special activities on each floor, in the same location would definitely make it easier for the residents to easily find and make use of these rooms.

I'll start by saying there were a couple of staff members that were very good. However, the extent of disappointing experiences that I encountered are concerning enough that I feel compelled to share this review. My hope is that the information will help others - be it those who live in this establishment or have loved ones there, and help the organization to make improvements. I sure wish I knew some of this information when selecting my mother’s new home. Note that these experiences took place during the pandemic, in 2021 and 2022.

Intake: Unfortunately, my mother had to be moved 3 times in a 14-month duration, with each move causing my mom great distress, anxiety, and depression. Their intake process did not seem to capture the extent of her cognitive problems and the level of support she required. This led to hiring extra Chartwell PSW’s to address this need while she was in the ‘independent living’ section of the home. That takes me to the next issue…

Over-charging: The extra PSW time was not properly tracked by staff, and consequently mom was over-charged hundreds of dollars. This is just what I was able to find with minimal effort on my part. I am grateful that the organization eventually credited these funds.

Ongoing need for extra, private PSW’s: Even while mom was in the ‘memory care’ section of the home, staff routinely requested additional, private PSW hours. At one point they suggested 12 hours a day of private PSW time. I want what’s best for my mom, but we simply did not expect this extra cost at the level of ‘memory care. ’ The combined monthly cost of ‘memory care’ plus extra private PSWs, at the suggested 12 hours/day, would have made it more economical for mom to stay at her original house with a 24-hour, private PSW care.

Extra costs: Despite the monthly fees, there are extra costs you can expect - shower curtains; garbage bin; laundry hamper; tissue/toilet paper; etc. Pricier extras included bed and chair alarms, and bed rails.

Disorganized mail tracking: Mom was not getting all of her mail. Christmas cards were not always getting to her, and in one case was returned to sender. On her last day before being moved to ‘long term care, ’ I asked if there was any mail for mom. What I got was a bundle of mail, including important mail, that was several months old, in addition to mail belonging to the previous occupant. This leads to my final point…

Hair salon: Since mail was not properly tracked, I found out that mom owed over $800 in hair care costs with the third-party salon, Forever Young Hair Care Group, that operates on the ground floor. The hair care costs covered a 6-month period, which included getting ‘shampoo set’ 3 to 4 times per month at $38/visit. This service was provided while mom was a resident of ‘memory care, ’ and well after she was diagnosed with dementia. The POA’s were not consulted, and thus no POA consent was provided. I am grateful that the retirement home eventually covered this cost, although I first had to endure unpleasant and threatening calls and e-mails from this hair care company.

On a final note, a big ‘thank you’ to Kerry Stewart, the General Manager at Scarlett Heights. She did a stellar job investigating these issues and keeping me updated. I wish I encountered her sooner in this experience!

Having a loved one with a terrible disease such as dementia makes things more difficult in hoping to find the best available caregiving facility possible.
It's only been a couple of weeks in moving my mother into Chartwell Scarlett Heights, but the attention and assistance I received from Kerry the GM and her team has been a God sent. My mother is a very stubborn person that must get her way most of the time.
I am relying on Kerry and her team to make this transition for my mom a successful one. From what I have seen to date, the suites, overall facility, staff and food are amazing.
At this time, I can only pray that all will work out in her ability to adapting in this new way of life for her.

Diana Da Silva - exceptional service! Choosing a residence for my elderly mother was one of the hardest things I have had to do. Diana is a gem - knowledgeable, trust worthy and above all else truly sincere and honest. Thank you Diana I know Chartwell Scarlett Heights will care for Mom the best they can. Generally speaking, the staff and residents seem happy and content. Health protocols are visible upon entry and on the floor.

Really enjoyed our tour of Chartwell on Eglinton. Moya was amazing and had answers to all our questions and every staff member we passed had a warm smile or greeting for us. All the residents we met had glowing reports and were warm and friendly. Shout out to Jean and Linda! The residence itself has clean, bright apartments and parkland around. Looks like it’s comfortable with lots to do. When we left, before we even reached the car, Mom said “I could live here. ”

My relationship with CSH started in 2018 on a tour with my mother. It was a visit to be proactive and not a needed transition at the time. We were greeted with wonderfully friendly residents and staff. It was a fantastic connection from the outset. Fast forward to one month ago and almost 3 years later when we had a crisis for my in-laws. My mother in law has had progressive Alzheimer’s and post Covid, her constant supervision needed help. Moya was immediately responsive, caring and supportive. Within 2 weeks we were moving my MIL into memory care. It has been the most incredible transition. She has been so happy, less agitated, better stimulated with engaging activities and friendships, and cared for in ways beyond our expectations. Her team of caregivers are outstanding. Judy, Vanessa, Rosalind, Maisie (I hope I’ve included the many amazing people who greet me everyday, though I’m still learning names and only have eyes to recognize you by!). The front desk are fabulous as well. They knew my name and remembered it within days. And most importantly, Dorothy! You are a beautiful person, so deeply caring and selfless. I couldn’t have hoped for more. This place is very special. I found an instant family and know that my MIL is getting the attention and the love she needs and deserves. Thank you for all you are doing to support each one of our family members. We are so grateful…

My father was at Chartwell Scarlett Heights for only 1.5 months recently, until he needed more care for incontinence issues. While at Chartwell, he enjoyed the various activities, meeting and talking with other residents, and the outside garden and adjacent park. The staff were all great and helpful when needed. The meals were good, and alternate food is readily available when desired. The room was spacious, with ample room to navigate when in a wheelchair. Overall, it is a very nice spot and I recommend it to others.
