Chef Martin’s Sushi House

This place is horrible, and it is irritating that they charge so much for a subpar product. Nearly the entire tray was full of rolls with imitation crab…the nigiri pieces were loaded with way too much rice. For an extra large tray they gave not enough wasabi and ginger to go around. Most of the rolls with shrimp had left over shrimp shell fragments in the rolls that had to be carefully picked out. Just overall horrible, and for the price disgusting. If you want good sushi, go to Joya.

We ordered the large tray for New Year's Eve, they were quite busy and they gave us the pick up time for an hour and a half later, which I expected. I arrived at the pick up time and only waited a few extra minutes to pick up my order. The staff were excellent, especially when dealing with rude and impatient customers. The sushi was very fresh and delicious, this is only the second time that I've ordered from here, but I think I've found my new favourite sushi place in the west end of Hamilton.

Far too much imitation crab which in my eyes not be served to humans. Sushi meat quality is great, but sliced too narrow and paper thin. Sticky Rice is on point as well

Not worth the price of admission!

Sushi was pretty good. Turnaround on pickup order was quick and staff was pleasant. I got the AC roll and half portion of Dynamite roll (both with no mayo).

Not very welcoming, no seating spots except this very dirty cushion thing, while there was a small folding table one of the staff was literally sitting and eating at. Unpleasant service and unprofessional language with customers. Felt like a total joke.

Very delicious. Had it for the first time and it won’t be the last! Fresh quality is distinguishable

Two times, I ordered.one through Uber eat and one time for pick up. I was shocked that there was a big price difference between Uber and pick up for the same order. I ordered same tray but Uber price is $84 while the pick up was $69 for the same one.
This restaurant reimburse their Uber marketing fee to the delivery customer, which is really bad, bad and bad.

The sushi is great but lack of handrolls means I am no longer a customer. But they do have red tuna which is rare to find.

The sushi tastes amazing, along with it tasting so fresh and having such a rich texture every single time. Could literally feast on their salmon rolls all day haha.

As well, amazing service and great staff!

Busy house so hard to get out with the kids, only sushi that we can order in, they pack it with a warming tray to keep it tasting the same as in restaurant. Excellent rice and fresh fish!

I have been a loyal customer here over the entire pandemic. We had a birthday dinner tonight for 6: 30. Knowing it usually takes give or take an hour and 15 mins to get to us, I figured I'd I make the order at 5. It was stated that our food would be there for 6: 20, which would have been fine, even 6: 45 would have been OK.but our order didn't get to us until after 7. Over two hours and the poor driver for Uber Eats had to wait there for over 30 minutes. It shouldn't take over 2 hours to put an order together. If we ordered like 6 platters or something I could understand but only two medium platters and over 2 hours. On top of that, the trays have always come bagged with utensils, these trays weren't even bagged and one of the lids almost blew off the tray when we received it. They weren't even pushed down. Very very disappointed. After spending so much money here over the past year, being a loyal customer, I'm sorry to say I will not be returning. Very VERY disappointed.

UPDATE: upon sitting down to dinner, we found a hair in the sushi as well.

They fill their rolls with fried tempura bits to mask the lack of fish and quality of fish. It's disgusting they can get away charging this much, for what is essentially rice and fried tempura bits (which is super cheap)

Their signature rolls, are coated in mayo and sweet sauce to mask, once again the terrible quality and lack of fish they actually use. Sushi needs to be simple and delicate, I'm not ordering a big Mac from McDonald, the star should always be the quality of the fish.

For one of the more expensive sushi places In this entire area, they should be ashamed with the quality of food they serve. We contemplated returning our food as it made both us nauseous.

Very disappointed in the service.i made a pretty big order and in one of them there was a short black hair strand and another had a full blown piece of GLASS.i’m not even sure if there were smaller pieces that i had already consumed prior, so now i’m concerned for my health.i’ve been a loyal customer for a while, and i’m very disappointed to see this.do better.

As a university student, my experience with Chef Martin Sushi has been excelsior. My favorite items are the chirashi and the philadelphia roll, both of which have a brilliant combination of ingredients. Additionally, the employees are warm and welcoming always greeting me with a smile every time I visit.

The sushi was mediocre, BUT the long black hair that was embedded in the ginger and laying across the a/c roll (see attached pics) was DISGUSTING. We called to tell them about what we had discovered and all we got in return was "thanks for letting us know, we'll try to be more careful". I guess they just expected us to eat the food that the hair was touching. To top it off those rolls were supposed to be for our kids! I would give a 0 if I could SMH.

This sushi is great. The California roll was excellent and really fresh. The Crunch roll, Black Dragon roll, and Dynamite roll were all pretty good too.

Our four rolls that we shared came out to ~ $40 which is very fair price in my opinion. Our order tool 20 minutes to prepare. The lady that helped us at the cash was kind and helpful, and the kitchen staff seemed cheery.

Overall I'd highly recommend!

Ordered sushi for takeout. It was still warm when we got it home. Loved how they served the yam sushi. Everything was scrumptious and worth every bite!

Really really good sushi! Better than every other sushi place close to mcmaster.every time i eat here with someone their reactions make me proud of myself for having such good taste. I would totally understand if they doubled the price for everything I've tried here (not that they should but v v yum)

The sashimi here is fantastic, best I've had in Hamilton. The Spicy Salmon rolls were different than how they are normally prepared, it was a sweet dark sauce, not very spicy and I didn't see any mayo but they were delicious, full of fish, a nice blend of textures and a good change. I will definitely be coming back.

Sushi is tasty and fresh, however we removed two stars because we ordered enough food for 5 people (6 rolls, 4 orders of sashimi) and only received about a teaspoon of wasabi with the entire order, no exaggeration, which ruined the meal since it only lasted for the first couple of pieces. Sushi needs wasabi

Best sushi in town! The front end cashier at the Westdale Location (I think her name is Maddy?) truly made the experience that much better. I now only order from there the days I know she works. BRAVO, Chef Martin & Maddy!

Great food and excellent service, Maddy at the front end was very helpful and super friendly over the phone - also very welcoming and kind as I walked in the store to pick up my order. Will for sure be coming back to get more sushi

The food is pretty good. But they are so slow and inaccurate with how quick it will be. For a pickup I waited 30 minutes. For an Uber delivery it has been 1 hour and 45 minutes before the driver can pick up. Originally it said 55 minutes. Once is forgivable but this is every time!

Its not the best, but it isnt that bad. Definitely not gourmet by any means.
The crunchy roll just tasted old.
Plus its like $25 for two rolls (12pieces) and a side.
Honestly, it tastes like fortinos down the street.

Red dragon roll was good and tasty, but crunch roll was not fresh or tasty, in particular the shrimp tempura was old and inedible, very disappointing. Tail pieces not good either.

Ordered during dinner so it didn’t get finished cooking until an hour more than expected. But the sushi was really good! Brought it home and was quickly finished within an hour.

This is our Go to gourmet sushi spot in the city! Great take out and always blows our minds with some of the rolls they have!

The food is actually very good, but honestly the young friendly staff working there and their very sweet demeanor and smiles was the best thing about this place.

I've had three delivery orders that just never arrived (which is 100% of my orders). Most recently I waited over two hours for an order and they cancelled it at the last minute with no explanation. My credit card was never charged but this is terrible business practice. I wish I could comment on the food but it's never made it to my house, if you're going to eat here only do it dine-in or you risk your order getting forgotten.

The sashimi is fresh and the sauces are flavourful. This is really good sushi!

Ordered our Valentines dinner here, & everything was delicious! My stomach hurt from eating to much but the pain was worth it. I wish I took some pictures the presentation was excellent.
