Chicago Deli Express

As a long time customer of Chicago Deli, I went to order a sandwich a few weeks ago and it was unfortunately the last time I will be ordering from them, which is a shame because I love their sandwiches but I can no longer support the owner of this restaurant.

I have never written a bad review before and don’t like writing them on small businesses but this needs to be said.

I had an awful experience in which the owner (a white man), as well as the other young white man that works there, both treated a new staff member (a young Sikh man who doesn’t seem to speak much English) with absolutely no respect. They were giving him unclear instructions and the commentary and remarks that were given to him by the owner, who was basically yelling at him while he was making my sandwich were despicable. I don’t know if he hasn’t been trained properly or if the job isn’t for him, but regardless, no one deserves to be humiliated like that.

To the owner since you’re apparently always looking for feedback: Don’t berate and talk rudely to your own staff in front of customers, not only is it embarrassing for them, it’s also extremely awkward for the customer and ruins our experience. And to the young Sikh man working there (who made me a delicious sandwich btw) that has to deal with the rude owner, please quit. Work somewhere where you will be treated with dignity and respect.

And to all other customers reading this, please look back at the other reviews and look at the owners responses. He’s just as rude on here as he is in person, and clearly can’t take any criticism. I’m waiting for a response from the owner telling me that I have issues in my personal life and placing the blame on me, instead of learning anything from this review.

This used to be our go to place for big sandwiches and unfortunately after our last order we will not be going back. My husband and I got two large sandwiches (that cost over $60!) that were just not very good at all. The bread was very hard, the toppings were minimal and we were charged for green peppers without being told that there was an extra charge.

We used to tell everyone about this place. The price point and the quality was amazing and unfortunately it's just not the same anymore.

*Edit: well that's certainly a weird flex. I mean I guess great job for having cameras so you can identify your customer exactly when they make a complaint.

My mistake on the sizing. I didn't know that there was a difference between large and jumbo, but that doesn't change the fact that I would NOT have paid extra for toppings had I known. And my husband was not told.

I definitely wouldn't call the shop as you're not exactly easy to talk to. Every time I used to put in orders (in person or for delivery) with specific toppings or lack thereof you would call and demand to know why I didn't want those specific toppings. So yeah no thanks. This whole thing has just left a sour taste in my mouth.

We're not talking about pizzas here we're talking about sandwiches. Next time I'll just go to Antonio's where I can get a sandwich that tastes good and from nicer people.

The spaghettini with meat ball was delicious! It was full of flavour it was my first time ordering from here (SkipTheDishes) definitely ordering again I’m addicted highly recommend!

This was my first time ordering from here through skip. I ordered the 12 inch Chicagoland- Double assorted sandwich, the bun was toasted with garlic butter. The sandwich was really good, super tasty and massive. Definitely way bigger than subways foot long. I also got the chocolate chip cookies and the Tiramisu cake. The cookies were warm, soft and very delicious! The tiramisu was also delicious and a good size for the price. I'm definitely ordering from here again

Been a while since I indulged in CDE, I have to say I regret the time lost.
I ordered the cannelloni last night and I am ordering the same today.awesome as I remember, and from what I gathered from my delivery guy they are great to deal with.

Work at a Dealership nearby and come every week and The Sandwiches are amazing and the Owner actually cares that your happy! If your looking for good service and Great food this is the place to be! Oh and now sometime on Saturdays we all get it for lunch which can be 12 sandwiches and we never have to wait, it's ready for pick-up.

Just paid $35 for a double assorted jumbo. There wasn't double meat on this, lacked topping I asked for. Not impressed at all.

Very good sub. Bread and toppings were fresh. Only disappointment was the meat wasn’t sliced to order, not a deal breaker though. I’ll definitely be returning.

We thought we would try this place out for the first time. Owner and staff were extremely nice and friendly and the place smelled delicious. We decided to order their home made meatball sandwich and everything about it was delicious from the meatballs to the lightly toasted garlic bread they came on. It was so filling that we still have half the sandwich leftover! We couldn't help ourselves and decided to also pick up their small (good size) Italian meat sandwich which is said to be clients favorite. It looks delicious.tomorrow's lunch covered. Since everything is homemade we decided to order their lasagna for 2 and their shepherd's pie for 2 for later this week. The owner even gave us two home baked cookies for free. Those will be eaten with a cup of tea later tonight. I wanted to post a pic of the meatball sandwich but the site won't allow me to. If you haven't tried this place and enjoy authentic homemade Italian food then this is the place to go! Located in Whitby on Gerrard Street just south of Rossland.

Great subs. Specifically searched for one with great reviews and was not disappointed at all. Well worth the $$ and will be going again next time I'm in the area.

Visiting the area and found this little gem by accident last week. I had the double assorted sub and it’s up there as one of the top subs I’ve ever had. Loaded with high quality meats and cheeses, and the fresh bread was awesome. I made a return trip today and again was not disappointed. Great food and service!

Truly massive sandwiches, packed with quality toppings with a good variety to choose from. It's hard to find fault!

Both the chicken parm, and the canelloni was great.
I highly recommend ordering from Chicago Deli Express if you are looking for great tasting food.

I love this place been going for over 4 years, Mike is amazing the food is Amazing and Rose I think her name is if I’m not mistaken is an amazing Italian cook… honestly everything is so fresh here I give it 10 stars out of 5 best subs in Durham region period.

Had the meatball for the first time here along with the BLT for my ignorant spouse. Both sandwiches were amazing and this place deserves more than the 5 stars allowable.

I've ordered 3 times in the last month or so off Doordash and have loved it every time!

The bread is amazing alone but I've tried the Chicagoland twice (assorted), 360 Chicago (meatball sub) and my friend has gotten the Chicago Bulls (steak) and they were all delicious!

The portion sizes are really big, I tried a jumbo the first time and it lasted me multiple meals, the sub never got soggy or anything in the fridge which was a nice surprise.

The employees have been super friendly, they've written me nice notes/recommendations and even given me free Italian potato wedges!

Overall I'd recommend this place and I'd especially recommend the Chicagoland with the garlic toasted addition.

My son recently moved to Whitby, so based on the reviews we thought we'd try out Chicago Deli for dinner before the game Saturday. They did not disappoint! Great staff, very friendly and very efficient as we were in a bit of a rush. As for the food, we ordered two sandwiches and spaghetti with meatballs. The food was fresh and tasted great, and not one of us could finish our meal, so you definitely get your moneys worth. I will be back as there is so much on the menu I'd like to try!

Wonderful place! Always good food that definitely fills! The large meatballs are definitely a bonus too.

Got the chicken club because it said loaded with bacon.take a look at the photo.also wheres the meat? Pretty sad its 14.50 so practically all bread and lettuce. 2 strips of bacon and 2 slices of chicken and no cheese.what a joke.never coming back wish i can give 0 stars

Not impressed. Bread was stale and way too large for its contents. Sandwich was also fairly tasteless all around.
Vibes were awkward with the staff and not overly friendly.

Delicious food, all made from scratch. I highly recommend anything with their meatballs! So good! Tennis ball sized homemade meatballs that are tender and flavourful!

I have mixed reviews. My first experience with them was good. Lots of deli, vegetables etc. This last time I was exceptionally disappointed. We ordered a jumbo, the girl behind the counter was making one of the same order and rather than prepare more bacon for the O'Hare, she used what she already prepped for the one and split it between 2. There was barely any meat, the tomatoes were paper thin and sparse. Basically paid $24 dollars for Bread. When it looks like a single piece of bacon and a single piece of deli meat per slice its not very impressive or worth the money. Would have been better to grab Subway.

Very friendly staff, all smiles and the meatball sub is bang on. It's going to be hard to try other stuff it was soooo good
