Looks are very much deceiving in this instance. Everything in this picture looks amazing right? ! Well it looks good and even tasted good, however, it left us with a day full of washroom stops, feeling weak and nauseous, to not even being able to function for the rest of the day. Not sure what went on here on our visit, but seems to be some kind of poisoning as every single person we came with left with a symptom or two after eating their food. Terrible experience coming from a Hakka spot, especially since most Hakka restaurants leave us wanting to come back. I've tried this restaurant when it was called China Cottage and it was not bad, but this is ruining their reputation as I heard it's the same owners. When I came back home and was reading reviews, it appears other people have experienced if not the same but similar symptoms from their visit to this restaurant. I really hope this place closes down. People come in, paying good money to be left feeling sickly. DO NOT COME HERE! This is not the same China Cottage that it used to be!
Great portions for the price and friendly service. However beef smelled a little off though tasted great. And fried rice was under salted. Overall would visit again
Order time 8.35 PM on Wed, May 5th. 1) Chicken 88 - The Chicken was not cooked properly and some pieces smell different and bad/poor quality. 2) Chilli Chicken Gravy - Worst quality of Chicken felt so uncomfortable after tasting and throwed away the rest. 3) Hakka Veg Fried Rice - Was Average. Guys you used to be one of my favorite spots before.but do not serve bad quality Chicken to Customers and make them fall SICK! Especially in this crisis during the Pandemic
I am very disappointed of your service. The food was cold and they didn’t give any napkins at all, chicken was dried out as well as the rice! Please don’t waste your hard earned money!
One of the best resturants in toronto, I usually get the masala noodles which is amazing but I asked for thier recommendations and they didn't miss. It was delicious. Love love love this place!
One of my favorite restaurants. I miss being able to sit and eat there with my closest friends and family. Food is always tasty and fresh. Portions are great for the price and so is the food. Staff have always been friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Ate here years ago and really enjoyed it so was worried about the 3.9 rating but don’t let it deceive you. If you’re looking for tofu this is my new go to spot, super crispy especially if you can reheat it in an air fryer when you get home and also had their veggie Hakka noodles with some chilli oil at home and it was a great meal. And I appreciate the friendly service despite the tough times. Keep it up!
Ordered cottage soup and mumbai chicken. Worst taste ever. Such a waste of money and efforts. Staff is very nice and polite but food quality is so poor. There is too much of food color in food that red color on my hands couldn’t be cleaned by soap. In Covid crisis, I wouldn’t support this restaurant any more.
Have been going to this places for a long time. However I’ve noticed a decline in quality for about a year now. Food is a bit stale at times. Consistency is missing in the Manchuria balls. It’s still a good spot but better places have opened in Scarborough.
I went to China cottage at pharmacy and ellesemere The time when they were closing the store We ordered food take out, less than 5 min the food was ready. I was suprised how long did take! When we got home and ate the food was salty. I had a food poison. Throwing up entire night. I was a regular customer. Not going again. Disappointed. Stale food
Very disappointing! The best dish was the chef special shrimp. Everything else was mediocre. We ordered chicken hakka noodles, manchurian chicken, garlic shrimp, pepper chicken, mixed veg & spicy green beans. The garlic shrimp tasted like watery ketchup. Noodles were meh. Manchurian chicken had a bitter after taste. Super disappointing. Not sure I'll go back.
I ordered Mumbai fried rice and such a pathetic food i ever had so far. Even one star is more for the quality of the food. I am surprised to see the good ratings and disappointed after experience.
Food always good, friendly atmosphere always but today I found a grey hair in my chicken and addressed it to the manager, you would think that he would at least bring you a new order beside apologizing he just played dumb and say sorry. Very disappointed
Its surprise not to have Fortune Cookies in Chinese restaurant. Never Ever! And staff use to bluff they just sold out all of them and this happens everytime. Don't understand the logic behind that!
Food was extremely disappointing. Ordered chili chicken, chicken fried rice and hot/sour soup. The food was bland and tasteless. No flavour. No spices. Nothing. Overall not worth coming here. Would not recommend.
I went to this restaurant for the first time and I spent $55 to buy food. The chili chicken and fried rice had no salt and smelled like curry powder, there wasn't any salt. It tasted horrible. We went to so many other Chinese restaurants, and this is the worst. This will be the first and last time we order food from this restaurant. When I called to let them know, the manager told to bring the food so they can fix it, but who has time to do that on Saturday night? Basically, I wasted my money.
The worst restaurant I have been to. Horrible horrible food. We ordered garlic ginger chicken and veg hakka noodles. The noodles were not boiled properly and were tasteless. The chicken was so chewy.awful.to top that the attitude of the manager and staff is horrible.rude, entitled as if we owe him tip! Would never recommend this place.
Nice place! Food was also good. Waiting time is decent, didn't have to wait for longer. Place is nice and clean. They serve Halal food, so if you need to have halal, its a good place. It's kind of hakkka chinese food. Should go with friends and family.
A great little Chinese restaurant with some Hakka and Thai dishes as well. There is a lot of variety and they are pretty good about accommodating special requests on orders (at least in the restaurant). Great portion sizes and good value for your money. I wouldn't say it's widely popular, but within the local area it's definitely a bit of an institution.
The food is a mixed bag of Hit or alright they don't quite ever fail to give good food (I'll edit this of I see otherwise). It general comes out fast too, unless it's a bad day which are far and from.
They have this one great waiter who seems to have things under his thumb really well and when he used to wait the tables it was great, now the new recruits that have been hired are the exact opposite, no care in plate placing they just plop the food on any end of the table that's closes to them (please fix this I'm willing to make it a 4 star if this is fixed). I don't care about this alot but coming there with elders and higher ranking coworkers would be a problem as they very much tend to care.
TLDR: If you want a high chance at getting some good Chinese food and don't care too much about the presentation China Cottage is a great place to go
We go to Chinese food place in Toronto. They had great variety of dishes at reasonable price and amount of food was great. The service of this place was very fast and staff was accommodating.
The food is good but the service is horrendous! Most waiters are probably working here for the first time in Canada because they have no customer service experience whatsoever and it shows. I would suggest trying at a China Cottage on Markham.
Dont buy food from here ever again the quality is bad and once you take the food home and find it has no salt and no seasiong of any kind. Even after calling the resturent they say that they cannot do anything to help you since they are closing in 15 min and cannot offer any help they refuse to even talk to me and had no concern wat the issue he told me if i was so hungry i shud order pizza and eat so now i guess i thank them for the advise i will now order pizza before coming to the hotel
The hotel has lost its quality and integrity both at the same time
No complaints but nothing special either. Food is fine and portions are ample and service is ok. Very polite and all but never check up on you. Have to wave down servers for every little thing. Couple of other things about the service was annoying too. Very dim lighting. Good lunch specials
