Love this cinema. Our experience was defined by the friendly staff, and particularly by the friendly front of house staff person, this past Sunday at around 1230pm. He has some great customer service skills that will take him far.

This was the worst VIP experience we ever had. We got there before the movie started and the server was there but she ignored us and didnt even ask for our order. We had to go out to see why and they said they have a specific time for taking orders and we have to get it ourselves now (what is the point of vip then?). During the movie the door was open and we could hear people outside and one person got up to close it, chairs were uncomfortable and made noises during movie which was annoying and the worst of all was the drilling sound from outside in the middle of the movie that again someone had to get up, leave the room and let them know about it. Dont go here if you want a VIP experience

I'm biased. I live in the building. That said, it's a well managed multiplex with a good staff. It also has one of the quietest and most comfortable bars downtown. They need to improve their beer selection but otherwise a great little hide-away even if you are not going to the movies.

VIP is awful at this location - the theatre is right next to the lobby / concession area, so if you are seeing anything that isn't action all you can hear is the crowds in the lobby. Every chair in here needs to be looked at, if anyone slightly moves, the chairs squeak so loud. Not worth the premium ticket price at all.

If you are looking to head to the movies and want a quiet theatre, this is the spot, especially a matinee show

Not a real movie theater. The screen wasn't big and the picture wasn't clear. It was a small room so it was completely full. Normally I would move away from other people but with so few seats there weren't any options. It felt like a rip off. Not worth the money

Wish I was able to know the AUD# number before booking so that I could avoid AUD#8 which is a century old seating and worst I have seen in Canada. Cineplex is not even in the race compared to 'Landmark cinemas Whitby' who has the best seats in my experience.

We went to see the Barbie movie here with my mother who is quite elderly and doesn’t get to movies very often. The theatres was accessible and the staff were very kind and helpful. We bought our tickets at the concession stand and the young man complimented my mother on her necklace, which made it all seem much kinder and friendlier than the usual ticket buying experience at a busy theatre. They also thanked us for coming out to see the movie when we left.

It’s nice when a theatre you enjoy also has kind and pleasant staff; makes the whole experience that much better.
My 5th star is for the sweet kid at the concession stand who took the time to make conversation with my mother. This could possibly be her last time at a movie theatre.

Cinema seats are good and atmosphere as well.i went to the cinemas lounge. The servers there are very nice and attentive, but there are not much food selections and no hot soup being served yet.

Cozy move theatre, perfect for a date! I love how it’s tucked within the complex and the theatre is always super clean!

My favourite cineplex in the city. On the subway line, has the most screenings of smaller independent films. Can have a drink at your seat.

Very pleasant theatre experience. Be careful of the taps in the washrooms, though: the water tends to suddenly get very hot before cooling off again. It happened to me both before and after the movie.

The fact that you can bring restaurant food into the theatre now is awesome. Definitely makes it compete with a generic Netflix night. Otherwise it’s a pretty standard Cineplex location. I wish snack prices were a little more reasonable

Thank Cineplex Varsity for providing me with an amazing VIP theatre going experience. Great movies, courteous staff, amazing service, felchin and friendly smiles.

I have had great experiences in this cinema for decades. Special thanks to Mr. Rafiq for today Tuesday 10 March 2020 at 415pm.

Great theatre, you can always find a great seat, manulife centre has lots to see and do. Check out Eataly while you are there.

I attended a screening of Portrait of a Lady On Fire here. The film was presented poorly. The images were dim, the theatre lights turned on before the film was over, and the music cut out before the end of the credits. I saw the film at TIFF and it was presented properly. I would recommend seeing the film at TIFF, and all possible films at TIFF. Cineplex clearly doesnt care about the cinema.

With a Yorkville postal code you would think that this theatre would be "kept better. " Think again. The washrooms are always filthy and I dont know of it's just my luck but every time I have been there, people are talking during the movie, moving seats, coming in late.always a commotion.

Varsity is a good Cineplex theater. It's not great, but it's good. Its VIP theaters lack assigned seating and are pretty obviously afterthought screening rooms (which makes sense, they were added many many years after the theater opened). The other screens are fine (though some are nicer than others).

VIP Theatre was so small it was comparable to a home projector screen size with visible holes in the screen. Unimpressive sound system for a theater and especially for watching a war movie. I'd only visit the larger non vip theatre here. Lots of food and drink options at least but I'd stick to simple staples for food. Truffle fries were extremely salty and dry, and I love salty food.

A theater in Toronto with a very broad selection of films, chances are you'll find that one indie flick you've been hearing about.
11 February 2019 4:23
Great theatre! As my wife said, "my new favorite. ". Fully licensed with lounge and liquor and food service in VIP. Located on mezzanine at South end.
10 February 2019 8:55
This has to be the sadest VIP theatres in the GTA. It's tiny, the screen is tiny, you can't pick your seats, and duringoour showing there was a holiday gathering in the VIP lounge outside the theatre doors. You could hear people screaming throughout our show.

If you want the Cineplex VIP treatment for $22 per ticket, any other VIP in the GTA is your best bet. At least our servers were fantastic - attentive, quick and a pleasure.

VIP cinemas are small as are the screens. Staff sometimes forget to close theatre door so noise from the lobby can be an issue.
22 January 2019 15:41
Their theaters are old and not in par with dundas sq or richmond’s scotiabank at all. The screen is too small, just like an old cinema. It gets also very crowded without proper ventilation.

Varsity Cinema is an excellent theatre mixing traditional Auditoriums and intimate VIP with in-seat service. With a wide variety of items on the menu and the option of taking your alcoholic beverage into any movie as well as being wheelchair accessable it makes a great night out for all ages. Great for family or date nights. There is also the option to purchase prime seating which is reserved seating in the sweet spot of auditoriums 1 to 6.

The only downfall is the construction happening in the manulife building which is said to continue until the end of February 2019 which makes it a bit difficult to find the front door. Located on the second floor.

Closest entrance is located on Bay street close to Charles then up the escalator or elevators.

They have that one flat theatre like ur in the 50s or something definitely different than the norm it's great u should go
21 December 2018 15:41
Clean, smaller theaters great to see movies. There’s also one of two of the theaters that are the old set up, that are flat (so don’t sit at the back cause your view might be blocked)
Manulife centre is also a great location, perfect to hang out before or after movies. The stores & restaurants are great. And 7 West cafe is just down the street if you wanna get good food 24/7 after a late movie.
Best and favourite movie theater!

Went to VIP at this location. I am use to the newer VIP theaters and was underwhelmed. The design has come a long way. The vibe was "home theater" staff was friendly and responsive but will never pay for VIP again at this location
12 December 2018 19:35
Really confusing and unclear location of exits and entrances. I hope when the construction is over it's going to be better
03 December 2018 3:59
May I ask why Varsity though it is a cineplex network but it does not operate Time Play as other theatres do.

I don't go to the movies often but coming here made me think I should. The film I wanted to see was sold out so I had to get a ticket for the one 40 minutes later, which turned out to be just fine! I hadn't eaten and assumed I would have to settle for popcorn, but NO! The lounge has a pretty good menu including some vegetarian options so I was able to have some decent food and a nice glass of wine, which I was allowed to take into the movie. There are also comfortable chairs - I mean livingroom style chairs where you can relax while you wait. It was great. More than just a cinema.

It used to be a pretty cool movie theatre back in the day, however, it is now just an old theatre in a prime location. Still, I go to this theatre since it often plays quite a number of indie and documentary films. However, the auditoriums either remains poorly constructed or are so small although the ticket prices are similar to those at other Cineplex theatres in downtown Toronto,
In the large auditorium, the seats are all on the same level and the floor has almost no slope at all. Thus, the view is totally obstructed by the people seating in front, and honestly, there isn’t any good seat.
In the smaller auditoriums with stadium seating, they now offer premium reserved seating for extra bucks. I guess because no one really wants to pay more to see the same movie in such small auditoriums these rows of premium seats are usually left empty even when the other rows of seats are pretty full and people struggle to find empty unreservable seats.
05 November 2018 4:17
Simple and efficient. The seating accommodations are comfortable, and the viewing experience is both aurally and visually stimulating.
29 October 2018 12:44
This is a terrific movie theatre complex, with very comfortable, reclining, high-back seating to further enhance your viewing pleasure. It's also one of the cleanest theatres I've visited in a long time.
17 October 2018 1:12
For a small theatre there are a great selection of movies, it’s always clean and there isn’t much to complain about. However - I would not recommend going here for VIP.
