My kids found a cat locked in the carrier in the park in our neighborhood. It was Saturday, 4pm, and I was really surprised when I called these guys, and they came in 20 minutes and collected the poor thing. They are amazing.
Our dog had a tumour and we had had to remove it multiple times and so it was getting to expensive to pay for and when looking to put her down we looked and everyone was charging a lot more then it should cost to get this done they have the best prices and are committed to helping by giving your animals care and attention in the last moments of their life, it’s always sad to watch a loved one go and when your in that moment it shouldn’t cost the crazy prices to do something you already are having troubles doing!
We love you sweet pea and we will always cherish the memories we had together R. I. P your in a better place now!
Compassionate, but so tiny spaced for a walker difficult to navigate inside the Animal Control. SPCA so empathic and relatable, way over my expectations of professionalism and competency
ANIMAL CONTROL IS A COMPLETE JOKE AND WASTE OF TIME. If you want to help an animal please connect with rescue’s in the area and please do it yourself. The city does nothing and doesn’t care. This is third world here, Helping animals is in our hands not the city. They only come if an animal is deceased if your lucky, Spoke with animal control and they don’t trap cats or get them. They DO NOTHING, WHAT IS ANIMAL CONTROL EVEN THERE FOR. PLEASE HELP THESE ANIMALS ON YOUR OWN.
I have a medical dog for supportive purposes. They will not give license according to that medical need and documentation. Brad the manager stated his wife has a support dog who is not licensed. Basically just to do what his wife does. Put a vest on and ignore bi law. Brad refuses to contact me back. So now I have to contact legal agencies to fight for something I had previously. Its going to be a legal fight abd ultimately will get exactly what I asked for mo ths ago. I will call every day and keep on it.
Needs to enforce leash laws a lot better; City needs to put more money and resources into this department; I'm not blaming the officers but hose in City Hall.
So many offleash dogs in the evenings at Macassa Park, where kids will be playing soccer in a few days, more patrols are needed here. I walk my dog on a leash (he is dog reactive so it's 'fun' when a dog rushes us) and should have the freedom to do so without being harassed by offleash dogs.
Called for an animal in distress who had been hit by a car. The receptionist was phenomenal, supportive and had a great sense of humour. The animal control “officer” was far less so. He arrived more than two hours late, when we had been told he was in transit about a half hour after our call. We had stayed to keep the animal in one spot, and he laughed at us for it. He couldn’t initially catch the creature, who had an exposed bone in its limb and blood all over it, so he said he’d probably just come back in a couple of days. I didn’t realize animal control thought leaving an animal in excruciating pain to die in the street when he could humanely deal with the issue was standard practice. Went to his truck to get a net (why didn’t he bring it to begin with?) and the animal scuttled up a side alley with a dead end. He refused to go up the alley, stating “I’m not getting stuck with anything” but relented when my companion gently guided the animal back out. Net went right down on the dangling appendage and he was exceedingly rough in the capture. At one point, he pushed down the metal rim of the net on the injury. What an uncaring, ignorant and unprofessional individual. He should have been the one on the phone rather than the lovely lady and vice versa. Between his rough handling of the animal, his clear delay in attending and his flippant and unprofessional comments, I thought highly of reporting him. Left disgusted and wondering if he should consider a career change.
Horrible on-call person Beth today. Called to ask for assistance for wildlife bird moderate size siting in middle of busy road.
Was trying to share with her numerous efforts to reach someone as it was unclear which agency covered area was in.
Shared that the bird was in distress, appeared to have e broken leg as it wouldn't stand or move as traffic was flying by. She advised in a sarcastic tone "we already got the call, will get there when we can" and declined to confirm my contact info or the location info. When I insisted, she eventually did allow me to confirm this.
Called back later to clarify if their animal control person was on the way, she was rude, and advised " there are other injured animals, they will get to you when they can! Your tying up my line! ". I asked to speak to a supervisor she declined. Let her know she was unprofessional, and as a City of Hamilton Employee was not acting in a manner expected. She hung up.
Stayed for 4 hours trying to help an animal n distress, asked for assistance and intern get people who have no compassion for others or recognize the effort made to save our existing wildlife.
Thankfully the fellow that arrived was VERY kind, compassionate, gently assisted the bird and is taking it to the center for review.
They were very pleasant when i called in alot to see if my dog was there. They ended up picking him up and called us right away! Amazing and fast! Thank you so much
I am so happy with today's experience with City of Hamilton Animal Services. They made an extremely difficult decision to give up my dog very easy. Charleen was so compassionate and understanding of my unique circumstances, made a huge effort to get as much information about my dog as possible, and helped me set an appointment. When I arrived the staff were all friendly, capable, and understanding, and made a sad process very smooth. My dog was immediately introduced to one of the staff's gorgeous dogs and the staffer even said "*I* may take your dog home with me! ". When HSPCA said they were full this morning and gave me the number for animal services I was expecting cold, calculating government, concrete kennels, and sad pets on their way to the incinerator. What I found instead were loving, compassionate, and wonderful people who had worked there for decades, loved animals, had total understanding and experience with the struggles of life and pet ownership, and I was able to drop off my sweet girl with tears but also comfort as well. Thank you.
All Thay care about is money and I was trying to get one of my puppies back from them wonted to adopt her back and Thay said find her on the finder but she was not on it Naver let me get her was supper mad
I called them Monday to help me with a pigeon problem even though it was a holiday the woman came within an hour and took care of the problem. Fast efficient professional people
Have always gone to my closest animal shelter in my area when applying for a dog licence in 2019 I applied for a discount based on there policy's and what is required. NO DISCOUNT APPLIED. THE COST THAT YEAR $34.00 Went back the year after again to obtain new and current dog licence, again showed proof of all required documents to person at the desk. This time I received major attitude while with my 10yr old son and told no discount with excessive and extreme attitude for the woman. The cost that year 72.00 and still no discount applied still showing proof of all documents needed for discount, that was 2020. This year HAD ENOUGH I contacted the manager and explained my situation with his help, and know I have managed to obtain the discount and a credit for paying 72.00 people note if you are on disability, senior 65 +, or on ODSP FROM THE GOVERMENT they state you get discounted rates. I highly recommend you apply its your right times are tuff and the lady at the desk you know who you are CLERK ID # 4 SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELF!
Called to report a cat being dumped in a park. I was on the phone with them AS IT HAPPENED & they did nothing because "they dont pick up cats & noone was nearby anyway". Yet I have heard from many many neighbors that have gotten harassed & ticketed for having their dogs off leash at the same park the cat was dumped. So they can apparently make time when giving tickets but not when there is a helpless cat freezing in the snow.
I do believe this is an important public service. Unfortunately my recent experience requesting help locate my missing cat has been a poor one. It was disheartening to hear I wasn't able to confirm in person that the cats they had who looked like mine weren't infact mine. Then I was told if the cats have been at the shelter for 5days they give them away to adoption agencies, and that they wouldn't give me the agencies names&contact info so I could follow up with those agencies. Not being able to see if my cat was at the SPCA, or one of their associated adoption agencies made me feel hopeless rather than assisted or supported!
We had a skunk caught in a large snap trap stuck under our front step. The trap destroyed the poor animal's leg. It had to be euthanized in order to get it out. The animal was put down quickly as to not prolong its pain and suffering any longer. Animal was quick friendly and responsive thanks for coming
Amazing staff. From the friendly initial encounter and service on the phone, to the awesome guy who came and handled the injured animal we had called in for. They are professional and compassionate; if you see an animal in distress don't hesitate to contact them.
They are very responsive and actually willing to let people adopt. Also you can tell the cats here are well taken care of because they just seem happy even in their cage. Highly recommend adopting from here!
I called about my Cat being stuck in a wall. I was pretty much told there was nothing they can do. Not even a list of other resources to call. The Humane society has the worst hours and incredibly difficult to deal with. If your animal is in trouble who do you call to get some ACTUAL help?
