One of the most dysfunctional services ever! I would even say the website and their Visa Application is a complete farce. Spent 4 days helping a friend try to upload photos to an application and same message repeated over and over that file size and format were not correct, when we corrected it each time it gave a different message that we did it wrong even though we did it to their specifications! Their tech support is a joke and will help you only after you pay them then when you agree to pay they do not respond. Total incompetency making it extremely difficult for everyone. What are these people doing? I swear they are sitting around laughing about others suffering

Process is quite simple.
The ones who are coming here to get their POA attested, q go to the service information desk first. Let them know your purpose of visiting and then a security guard will take you to the main office through an elevator. You will be issued a token and asked to wait for around half to 1 hour max. Once upon called they will collect your documents and will ask you to come back at the mentioned time.

The consulate website says it's open from 9.30 to 5. Don't be fooled though, I reached there at 12.20 pm and there was no one at the reception. A note on the wall states that tokens are handed out from 9 to 11.30 am. Great! Why does the consular website not state that for peoples' convenience?
Another note states that walk ins are accepted for attestations. Yeah right!
There was only one counter open and about 40 people waiting to be served. I left immediately.

Every time I visit the consulate I am reminded of why I don't miss my home country.

Very Bad experience. I had to attest only one document and they spoiled my two days. I took day off from my work and those people do not understand. The lady who was sitting for the attestation was so rude. People like them should not be at these places. Only one person at the reception name Nikhil helped me and made my documents attested. Rest of them. Pathetic Experience.

On the 1st July an email was sent to the Consulate General of India to simply respond via email to issue a renewed passport. It has been two months since a family member of mine was stuck due to an emergency. I skipped a day of work to simply get a status update on the file. Upon arrival, I found that the staff was on lunch from 1pm-2pm. As soon as we entered there was no one to attend me. No one to ask anything. The blinds remained closed for another 45 minutes, while I could clearly hear staff laughing and see them move back and forth. When knocked at the window, I was told to standby at counter 6. No one came there for another 20 minutes, until I knocked again and was told to keep waiting. Finally when a lady came, without asking for anything or even understanding what I was saying, she kept telling me to go online and check for the status of my application, and rolled down the blinds on me. Frustrated, I went to the other side of the elevators to ask the attendant to find Ms. Apoorva Srivasta, he did not know who she was, and referred me back to the ladies on the other side. They created such a back and forth, I wanted to complain. I asked the same gentleman, "Sir, where can I complain? ", he said, "On the computer". I was embarrassed that such a learned, older gentleman` had such a vague response to my specific question. I insisted that I speak to someone who could understand my request and he warned me that "Everything is being recorded". Very sad. We need people to take their jobs seriously. Two hour lunch, holding the string to shut the blinds, being rude by laughing into the microphone at people who do not speak Hindi. This was my first visit and it is so unfortunate that this is the kind of impression they made on not only myself, but also the businessmen of other countries that came there to get their work done. One of them even said, "Looks like they don't want to work", we need to take into consideration that they are representing the Government of India in a foreign land. The kind of work they do is a service for the people, they need to be very serious about it and actually be considerate. Listen. I urge the officials to look into it and please be more considerate of other people's time, people drive from distances, some even have to take day (s) off to get such official work done. Please do not take this work as its nothing. People's lives are dependent on your pace of work.

Amazing experience, it was quick enough, and if it takes time they atleast tell you its gonna take time. With filling up the form, photo copies (that I forgot and they were kind enough to let everyone use the photo copier for free), submitting documents, and getting back completed signed documents the same day within 1.5 hours, it took me a total of 2.5 hours to complete the process. Amazing patience and staff was helpful with all the possible questions you could ask them.

No appointment required for the attestation. Go there early stay in the line and when they open, get the token and wait with all the orginals and photocopies of the original documents to be atttested and id's

I usually don't write review but this is the worst Consulate I've seen.
No contact info on their homepage. Their third-party BLS is as useless as them. No one picks up the call there.
The Consulate website has Sampark option containing no link for misc service appointments.

Long story short: India Consulate do not picks up the phone, never bother to respond to citizens questions, BLS is unresponsive too. You're on your own if you ever unfortunately have to deal with them.

Very difficult to reach them. Even it’s impossible to reach them, on website they don’t have contact information and inquiry form is troubling. Do you even think about your reputation? What people talk about General Consulate India?
My Pcc is dispatched month ago but after months its still in process by General Consulate. I tried and tired to reach BLS and here. Very frustrating PLEASE IMPROVE YOUR SYSTEM

Where do I even start. If there was a way to give negative stars I would. I don’t think 1 star justifies the service they provided. I had an appointment for 10: 30 am, they open at 10: 00 am. First employee was late and showed at 10: 15, and then the rest strolled in at a leisurely pace 10-15 mins after one another. There was no one except me for an emergency visa service at the time. A lady came and asked me for my documents, I had every single document in hard copy ready to go. She told me to wait 15 mnts and someone will be with you. 30 mnts pass and now it is 11: 00 am. No one in site to serve me (still me all by self) with 4 people giggling and laughing in the back. I knocked at the window someone came out and told me it will be another 10-15 mnts. Now it is 11: 30 am (still just 1 person “me” to serve) with 4 employees in the back giggling away. Finally the lady who told me that someone would come see me, comes back out and opens a window and turns her computer on. So you are telling me this whole time the person she told me to wait for was HER.she calls me at the window and she takes all the documents along with my passport that she had looked at 10: 30 am, then I pay. I’m told to wait a little bit and it will be ready. Great. The time is now 11: 45. It then took from 11: 45 until 1: 15 to get my visa. Disgustingly incompetent. These are emergency visas and the people working here act with zero urgency, and zero empathy. Absolutely appalling. In the end, they did not even apologize. 4 employees took over 3 hours to process 1 emergency visa. Let that sink in.

How do you not even have a voice mail service on the phone line? Half the times the phones are busy tone and then you can never leave voice msg.

It's a nightmare to get a hold of someone. The email responses take over 4-5 days and multiple reminder begging for a response and that too they say see attached and NOTHING attached and NOT EVEN ANSWERING the question originally asked in email.

What's wrong with CGI? SO SO SO FRUSTRATING!

For those who are looking for attestation at CGI, appointments aren't necessary, they accept walk-ins.
Before proceeding to the formalities please collect a token from outside the office (7th floor), close to the elevator (kind of reception).
You should bring two copies of the documents that you want to attest.
And each copy of your passport, Canadian ID, proof of status (student/work/ PR) and an application for miscellaneous consular services filed by yourself with a passport-size photograph. You can either download this application from their website or get it from the office. If you forget to bring the document copies, no worries! There is a free-to-use copier machine for the visitors!
And access to the premises is from 9: 00 am, so no need to come earlier.

Very very disappointed, I called a emergency number that they provide on their official website. And I want to explain the whole scenario to person who picked my call. But he was very rude and he don’t want listen to me.firstly I explained him everything in message and after that I call him regarding my child emergency visa. Actually I applied for my child’s passport in March but I didn’t get that yet. When I call passport office they told me it might take 13 weeks more. So my question is just that we don’t have enough time to so can I apply for emergency visa as we booked tickets already and he was like, aap ne call kha kiya hai, aapke Canadian passport k bare me hame kya pta, mai apse application number many rha hu aao kuj aur hi bol rahi hai.

Looks like a staffing problem. Having issues with my son’s passport and no one is picking up the call. So many Indians residing in Canada and the Indian consulate don’t even have a basic infrastructure to receive call and answer the query. Really dissapointing!

I had a good experience and I am sharing some small details to make your visit smoother. I visited end of June 2022. If you are driving, there is parking (75 Huntley St, Toronto, ON M4Y 2P1) 1 min away (18$ max) and you can take the metro as well. Sherbourne metro station is 1 min walking distance.

Depending on your purpose of visit t please collect all documents and their copies. Arrange them all in order as per the website but mostly Miscellaneous form, your passport, letter of explanation and address proofs are common.

When you reach the 7th floor get your token 1st and wait inside.

I noticed many people don't have proper documents and patience. You must go there with proper documents and details not theirs. If you have some missing docs, they will allow you to use the photocopier and wait for you patiently but if it's busy and you are angry or rude they will ask you to come back again with a new token and all documents.

I know it's difficult to spare a day and go there but if you go early in morning you will finish everything in 1-2 hrs. If they are busy you need to go back around 4PM to collect your papers. You can visit downtown instead of waiting there.

Worst place ever. With not eve human courtesy. Staff giving token thinks they own the place and are gatekeepers of indian embassy. Think about sharing some suggestions, they will ask you to go to hell. Indian is much better tan the kind if service and people serving in embassy. Hope anyone is re as ing these fedbacks.

If we read the website and get all the documents ready. Things will be smoother. But we will not get any help on phone as nobody takes the phone.
If we are one minute late, you will be sent back saying to come back tomorrow morning without even considering one is coming from Windsor.

There are many good things but here are some Request that can change a million outlook of our consulate.

Please be considerate to people situation?
Please open a help line, Coming to downtown is pain?
We know you are stressed but be polite to people and dont raise your voice to citizens?

I noticed everyone who are coming over there are just pleading, cursing or getting irritated.

They deny a visitor visa even if you have all documents,
After wasting over 200$ on shipping and standing in lines at bls, I paid ended up 500$ to a travel agent to get a visitor visa for 1 month. I got the visa quickly so I suggest rather than wasting time here the only option is to pay extra and get it done.

Thank you to Mr. Raja who went out of his way to advocate for me. I got my renewed passport in 24 hrs. My suggestion to The Indian Consulate General is that you are the first point of contact for the indian citizens here in Toronto, but none of the phone numbers of the consulate are assigned and your emergency line cant take any messages because your voice mail box is full and your emails are not replied. Please do the needful as we depend on you for services.

They still cannot explain the 90 days grace period for keeping Indian passport, if its illegal to keep dual passport then why you have mentioned 90 travel period its stupid if a person leaves Canada with 2 both Indian/Canadian passport why he can enter with Canadian passport.

Great experience. I came for doing attestation of POA. All the details we can see in consulate website. Go with all the documents. You can get your POA paper done by Indian advocate or Canadian advocate (which is simply inputting all details in a plain paper, they have some format and all. So it is better to get done with the help of a legal expert). Also If you are Indian passport holder, you don’t need to pre authorize documents before you go. Just take the ID copies along with the POA (2 copies please). (Please carry all the original ID- just in case). If you are going by appointment (directly) you don’t need to get the prepaid envelope. If you are only sending by post all the documents, then include the prepaid envelope for sending them back. Other than that everything straight forward. Even they have photocopy machine over there inside the office. But please keep the copy of all ID’s. Also if you wait for 1 and half hour, you can collect your documents. Or else you can come and pick up later days. It was all smooth. Take an appointment and get the things done. I hope this review will be helpful for some people who is looking for some answers.

Passport renewal experience; Tatkal service:
Front desk consular work on visa, passports, OCI outsourced to BLS Intl. Check BLS website, as well as youtube videos from experienced people, to get a clearer understanding of documents and steps required to complete your task.
The appointment booking system from BLS has been updated during my application process. Visa application is strictly by appointments and are about 1 week wait, while passport appointments are about 5-7 weeks wait, with walk-ins accepted.

I had queued for several hours in freezing cold on two occasions at the Brampton office. They gave everyone a next day appointment on humanitarian basis, since most people were in the queue for 6-7 hours at -6 C temperature with wind chill. They also distributed hot coffee for free! So I am glad to see they have learnt from people's suffering and are updating the appointment system for the better.

My actual appointment was extremely straightforward and quick. I satisfied their checklist on every aspect with originals and multiple copies. Much to my pleasant surprise a lot of documents and copies in the checklist were not required. The Indian Consulate has finally evaluated and streamlined their process to exclude redundant documentation!

Wow! Just Wow! Kudos to the Indian Foreign Service for finally achieving Independence from British Rule. FYI, the bureaucracy inherited from the British Raj made every Indian doing any government administration task for 70+ years feel like a second class citizen by their own country. One is presumed to be fraudulent unless one goes above and beyond to prove their innocence with numerous redundant documents, signs, counter-signs, stamps, etc.etc.etc.

My "required" documentation was carefully checked, so it was professional and precise work, no corners were cut. I was at the counter for 4-5 minutes; submission, ratification, payment, Q&A, all done in 4-5 minutes.

I received my renewed Indian passport in a week. The passport itself has a brilliant modification. The 'front' and 'last' page, with your picture and vital information, which were previously printed on the front and back jacket of the passport itself, are now on the second and second-last page respectively. These pages are better laminated and protected. (Since my picture in the previous passport had faded from wear-and-tear, I really appreciate this smart modification.)

My passport renewal experience also renewed my pride in India.

I have been calling for an oci enquiry for 3 weeks now, and either no one in that department picks up or the call doesn't go through.they have no one answering their emails or checking their messages.this is very unprofessional and a big time waste.the people answering the phone are highly unprofessional, too, they don't even introduce themselves properly. I have been very frustrated with this service and you'd think given it's importance to people it would run better.

Disorderly, disorganized, systemless, staff has no patience to listen. Website says one and staff says another. Staff demands appointment to be done online on thier website but the website has appointments only for emergency and cannot book appointments for other reasons which seems planless. Fortunately or unfortunately I had called the day before to ask how to book an appointment to collect my documents the staff at the other end of phone said I could come directly and collect it which left me frustrated explaining my situation to the staff screening the visitors at the consulate. We are in 2021 still the service is a hit-or-miss.

Process is well detailed on the website. There are photo copier services in case you need something urgent.

From the person downstairs to staff taking care of our application were polite. Everybody was putting in best effort.

Very unprofessional consulate. They open consulate at 9: 30am but online appointment starts from 9: 00am. After taking applications they ask to come at 12: 30pm. They think we are living near to consulate. So we can go and come back. No place to seat or get fresh (understand Bcz of COVID) People were coming in for emergency services and they were kicking them out saying first get an appointment.

Camp was organized for Life Certificates for pensioners, and it was an chaotic situation on 13/Nov/2021 at Hindu Sabha Temple, Brampton.
No COVID precautions, no capacity mandate, no social distancing was followed and the staff at hand was totally negligent and unable to control the situation. Reached along with my Mother at @ 11.00 am, and then waiting in the line for @45 minutes to get to the counter for token, the number received was 975 in the line. People were standing shoulder to shoulder, often pushing each other, and majority were senior citizens. There was no control, some people were jumping the line and cutting thru to reach the counter to get the token. The process of attestation was also totally chaotic and was not managed and people could be seen jostling with one on ether to get their forms attested. We are mandated by law to show COVID passport even if we are going for inside dining and tables need to be spaced out, but where were those mandates in this case. The Counsel and the temple management should be penalized for this violation as they created an very unsafe situation for all people and majority of them were the most vulnerable seniors. I could estimate total @ 3000 people at given point of time in the temple. Looking at the ciaos, I took my mother away without getting the attestation to protect her.

Attestation process is a JOKE. They give appointment for 9: 00 in morning and they open at 9: 30 AM Lolzzzz. Once they open, they dont check whos booked for what time. Just take people in randomly. They you go upstairs and submit your documents. Fun begins after where you find out that you will need to leave documents with them to get attested and you'll be able to pick then up ONLY at 12: 30 PM. So you if you have booked appointment at 9: 30 you will be end up waiting 3 hours LOLzzzzz. What a joke.

I don't know about others, but today my experience was great at this place. I did see some people abusing at the staff for not completing their requests but I observed that staff was not at all free at any point of time and was constantly doing their job honestly. Also, if you have all documents and reasons are true and genuine (until and unless you are making stories), it takes minimum time for your request to be processed. From security guards at the ground floor to receptionist Raja ji and the person who will filed my case, all were humble and ready to listen. Thank you so much everyone.

We were trying to get appointment to get attestation done for our Son's birth certificate but nobody picks up the calls. We drove from Brampton to Toronto downtown office just to find out how to book appointment. Extremely unprofessional. Also, BLS asks for this attestation for OCI application which is not clarified properly on CGI website nor on the BLS checklist. Anytime we have to deal with Indian government places, it takes couple of trips to get things done.

I have applied for my passport renew and as my work permit is going to expire soon, I sent them an email mentioning that please process as soon as possible.and haven't got any response from them. Not only that i am calling them as well to talk or confirm with their representative. But they never received my calls.

After reading few positive reviews here, i had a hope that i will get response. But, this is really disappointing.

When some of our law office clients raised the issue of unprofessional attitude of this consulate office, I was not convinced. In order to have first hand experience, I tried reaching out to the consulate office via phone as well as via email, but there was no response. This consulate office badly need introspection of their working. If they are accessible to the common man, they don't need any kind of advertising. More than your words or these social media advertisements, let your action speak about yourself. A consulate office represents the nation at foreign soil. Hence, the consular should know when to over see and when to see over. Now, I can understand why ratings are so low for this consulate office.

I applied for my parents Passport renewal, it's ben 2 months nothing got updated on status. I was trying to call customer service number at least 5 times a day no one responded. I sent an email 2 times, didn't received response. I tried called emergency number luckily got picked up I explain my entire situation and they told me to send an email again but still no response. I understand Consulate general office might be busy but at least they should response to an email or acknowledge the email.if any one from office sees this review please reach out to me and at least try to respond to the emails.

Most irritating service. They keep people waiting for no reason and behave as kings & queens, as if we are at their mercy.
Paid for courier to return the passport, but they ask to collect in person from 10 am, and make us wait till 11: 30, when there are only 2 people waiting in the whole hall.

I mailed across my document for attestation to the consulate 12 days back and today I received the attested document back in mailbox without a follow-up! I was very stressed on reading the negative reviews before sending my affidavit via mail. But I'm now sure people who get the work done on time do not bother to review at all! Please read through every detail that is mentioned on the website and there is no reason to worry. Really relieved I can still proudly say I'm from India Thank you so much for the swift service.

They are even worse than the officials back in India. They have recommended BLS which is a third party Company to do the work which was supposed to be taken care by them. They are non responsive over the phone, never reply back on the email and even worse charged my thrice till now without giving the required documents to me.

Excellent Super Fast Service!

We were very impressed with the speed and efficiency with which the consulate handled our documents. We sent it by Canada Express Post from Guelph to Toronto, which reached the consulate in 1 day. They signed and put a seal on every single page! We were only expecting a seal on the front page and were plesantly surprised.

The Document also got back to us technically within 2 days, discounting a 3 day delay on the part of Canada Post. As long as all of your papers and requirements are in order, people at the consulate do an excellent and efficient job!

Absolutely horrible experience! I'm writing this honest review based on my actual experience that has been ongoing since December 2020. If you need any service or process started, you need to start by complaining. Only then will they even look/find your file, even then it's not a sure shot. It took a series of tweets, emails and phone calls to get them to start working on my OCI application. They also change things mid process so much so that they just end up asking you to write letters about you being single? ! Which makes no sense as you already check that box on the form (what's the point of including that question if you are going to make them do all these extra steps but not mention it in the original form/checklists). The response times are horrible to say the least and you would need to call them every week to keep reminding them that they need to work on and finish processing your application. From the time of actual submission it took me 3.5 months (not an exaggeration at all) for them to say that my OCI will be delivered to me. I still haven't received it so that should tell you something. You could have a sick family but that will do you no good, people just don't have any responsibility not dedication towards their work at the consulate in Toronto and it only gets worse with BLS. You come to this country hoping things will get better, more fair, more streamlined but the Indian departments here are just devoid of these values. It has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. I wish someone would start looking at how things are run and provide more accountability and transparency into how things are run at the Indian consulate and BLS as the way things stand it is quite shameful, especially to me as an Indian, to say that compared to Canadian government processes in Toronto, Indian institutions have been not just horrible but very disrespectful to its customers.

I trying last 2 days contact to office numbers for emergency visa. But no response. Today I call to one emergency number. Someone pick my call and suggest me about emergency visa. I emailed my situation and documents. So I hope on Monday they will call me for appointment. Thank you.

Worlds poorest service given here, no reply for emails no contact number, I've lost my passport there since last year I never got it back cuz, they don't answer the phone, office close. Shame on u irresponsible people that works there all of u.

Needed attestation of Few Documents, sent them by Mail as in Person is not allowed thanks to COVID. It has been 2 weeks I have not yet received the attested documents. No one is receiving the call on the Number Provided here.

This office needs to update their policy and processes, especially during COVID/LOCKDOWN - not answering the phone or having a clear website makes people frustrated in an already frustrating state with covid. BE BETTER - have people work from home to answer inquires, enable e-transfer verse Money order (it's 2021!), and get someone to redesign your WEBSITE and contact pages. I'm so embarrassed for you guys.

I had emailed them my whole file but they never asked me to bring any additional documents needed.when i reached there they simply ask me more documents and come back.its ridiculous as i had to travel with two kids one 8 months. They could have just told me in the email "please also bring this additional document as its a special requirement for you. " And the visa lady was super rude.

Thanks to Consulate General of India for helping to get emergency visa and i had allready schedule appointment but due to some reason that day i could not make so i reswnd email for reschedule the appointment and they write away gave new appointment date for it and gave proper service for visa as well without any problem thank you 1s again to Consulate General f India.

Absolutely useless. Have been reaching out via emails, twitter, phone calls for many weeks now, no response whatsoever. Thought they were suppose to help Indians in Canada but cannot rely on them at all.
Why even provide a phone number if you are not going to answer any calls.

CGI Toronto representative Mr. Praveen K addressed my queries via email related to passport renewal aptly. The rating is based on his prompt response and resolution. He also connected me to a BLS Brampton representative for further queries. I look forward to a smooth passport renewal.

I got an appointment with CGI after trying out several times and crossing hardships with BLS. Mr. Mehar Singh from CGI helped me to get my passport renewed as swiftly as possible once I reached them.
If you have real urgency reach CGI via email with explanation and they would help.

The services for life certificate provided by the consulate are exemplary and well organized. The camps they have managed to setup for all GTA cities are greatly appreciated as our parents dont have to travel to Toronto.
I have also used the Toronto location for issuance of a new passport in 1 day and that experience with few minor hiccups also went very well.

Getting police clearance certificate during covid is a big mess. Processing time is more than 2 months. BLS is closed and applications are submitted through purolator.

Firstly, I dont understand the logic behind filling out the application online and filing it by mail. Why dont you give the option to submit the application online?

Secondly, why are you asking us to send our passport to you and that too by mail? Okay, we understand that our passports are property of Government of India but why dont you just take the passport number and run it in your database to check our travel history.

If there will be less then one star I like to give that that. I was keeping contacting then via email and calls but didn’t receive any response. Finally I follow their website and send them documents to attested. But they call me and said they said you didn’t sent right documents. Which wasn’t written on website and about draft I read their website for them and they said that not right. Seriously service is very bad and I didn’t expect that in even Indian. Sham on them. They are representing very badly India.

This is second year in row we have gone for life certificate at Scarborough camp organized by consulate. I am sharing my experience for both visits. The service was 5star. The staff was very polite and welcoming. They are following all Covid guidelines and are very well organized. Excellent excellent service received. Thank you consulate of India Toronto and thank you to the excellent staff.
