Cynthia's Chinese Restaurant

I ordered food for take out at 6: 30 and was told that it will be ready for pick up by 8: 30. When I arrived they said 15 more minutes. To make a long story short I didn't get my order until 9: 30. I do like their food but sitting outside and waiting for an hour is unacceptable. I will never order or recommend them again.

Dinner with friends Saturday night. Egg rolls, lemon chicken, shrimp in lobster sauce, beef with mushrooms, all very good. Food freshly made and hot. Small issue with overcharge on sodas however quickly rectified. My favourite place for Chinese Food. Lots of parking.

Such an amazing experience! Food was fantastic. Service was fantastic. Everything was clean. Highly recommend dining in!

Ordered takeout food was watery and somewhat tasteless, we were suprised as we had heard it was good food

We ordered takeout for our wedding anniversary… I’ve eaten at this location for over 15 years. Tonight was the worst experience food wise. Ordered two chicken dishes and they were dry and rock hard. I went to call them about our experience and it might have been the worst customer service I ever had. I was told they never received any other complaints in the day about their food. I explained to them I really enjoy their food and it’s the reason we decided to order from them. I was trying to be nice and respectful and all they did was defend themselves. I had no resolution or even an apology. I don’t write negative posts on the internet. However, this deserved one tonight for the way I was treated when trying to explain to them our protein dishes weren’t up to par. I really am disappointed as it was supposed to be a pleasant experience shared with my family.

If you want good Chinese food with great ambiance go to Cynthia's. Take out is amazing as well! I have been eating here for over 15years and it never disappointed me.

Went Thursday evening for dinner with family and friends. Warm welcome. Excellent 5 star service. Food was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. I'm still thinking (and talking) about was a perfect evening we had. Will go back over and over again.

Lovely place first time here, they are very welcoming even if you don't have a reservation they make time for you, and thr food quality 1000% and proportioned greatly keep up they great practice

We had a food poisoning from their food. We ended up in the hospital and throwing up like crazy for 2 days. They admitted that only half of the order was not fresh because other customers also called and complained about it. And just to show how unfriendly and uncaring and unprofessional they were, they offered only partial credit. We will never give them another chance because they did not even apologize. 1 star is too much for this place. If I could reasonably rate them I would leave -5 stars. And just to show how bad this place is they refused to honour the partial credit saying that it was on their file.

One of my fav restos in my hometown. Shrimp fried rice is excellent quality. Very nice and welcoming atmosphere.

Some really great Chinese food at Cynthia’s and we’ve eaten our fair share in Toronto. Very good quality ingredients. Also, our waitress, Alice, was a really upbeat, bubbly and fun server. She even remembered the desert that we had forgotten the name of. The garlic butter prawns and the spare ribs are tremendous. Keep up the good work.

The food was ok, but I wasn't feeling very relaxed considering there were so many staff going back and forth around us arranging tables, vacuuming, cleaning, short staff meetings, discussing how to arrange the glasses and plates with the management, etc.

Ordered takeout at 12pm was told it would be ready for pickup at 6: 30 and then pushed to 8: 30 not even guaranteed it would be ready. If you can not handle the volume of orders you should not be taking more than you can handle. Terrible service and will not do anything about it. People are ordering and relying on their order and since it’s Christmas there aren’t that many options. They are money hungry and beyond unacceptable. If they can not serve the restaurant which you could only get a reservation, so they know how many people will be in the restaurant, they should know when to say they can not accept any more orders.

Always a wonderful and authentic experience at Cynthia's. Love the ambience. Food is delicious. Service is fantastic.

Dined at Cynthia's Thornhill today. Awful experience. The portion became tiny compared to pre-Covid and the prices went up 30%. Cynthia herself served us and she spilled the food on the table and did not bother to clean it up. The waiter was rude. Avoid the place. Severely overpriced and bad service. Doris in North York

Chinese dining elevated away from the typical grab-and-go Chinese shops we often see around town. Staff welcome you into a well appointed dining room that always impresses someone going in for the first time.

The menu is vast and most items are done well. The peking duck is very much celebrated when served, with a gong and by-the-table prep. The take-out packaging is well thought out so food carries well. The lunch specials are very tasty and with generous portions - a more affordable to experience the restaurant.

Some of the food we ordered was not up to par. We mentioned it and they didn't do anything!

The service in the restaurant is incredible. Usually we do takeout (our fav! Chinese in Thornhill) but tonight we dined in for my MIL’s birthday. The attention to detail was impeccable to make it a special occasion. They put little decorations on our nieces drinks to make them fancy, brought out the cake on a fancy tray, and even sang karaoke Happy Birthday. They were always making sure we were satisfied. We are happy to continue to support them:)

Have always enjoyed Cynthia's for many years. Upscale Chinese food and the service is great with nice decor. Like the won ton soup.

I order the Chicken Lettuce Wraps as my main course quite regularly (minimum once a month) and they’re always great. Tonight when I ordered them, there were large strings of what looked like skin or fat that were inedible. I called Cynthia’s and spoke to the manager to let her know how unappetizing the Lettuce Wraps were and emailed her a photo to show her. She called me back and let me know that she spoke to the kitchen and their machine that cuts the chicken is starting to fail and that’s why there’s larger pieces. I told her that it didn’t look like the chicken used for the lettuce wraps were trimmed at all as there was so much skin or fat (it’s usually diced quite nice). She said that she told the kitchen they need to make sure to trim the fat.
Anyways, she told me next time I order she’ll put a spring roll in my order for the issue. I told her I can’t even eat my meal as I have to pick through it (with my fingers) to avoid the skin or fat. She said ok, I can give you 50 % off next time you order the Lettuce Wraps and that’s the best I can do unless we want to return tonight’s order. I told her I’m not sending my husband out in the pouring rain for $20. I informed her that she lost a good customer and I would never order from there again and also let her know I would be giving a bad review and intend to let everyone know about their disgusting customer service and clearly really cheap chicken they use in their dishes that they charge a premium for. Shame on you Cynthia’s.

It was alright. For such a high price you'd expect better quality, and perhaps a bigger portion.
I really liked the Crispy OK Chicken, everything else was generic unfortunately.

For half the price at what you would pay here, you can get all the same stuff at any mom & pop Chinese restaurant with bigger portions.

The overall rating at 3.9 really doesn't do this restaurant justice. It's clean, offers great service, as well as delicious and quality food. I think it deserves at least a 4.5 overall rating.

We had the B Set for 2 which is at $35.95 each. Every one of the dishes was good! We enjoyed the starters which comprised the Hot and Soup, Wonton Soup (quality meat!), Fried Chicken Dumplings, Spring Rolls, and Samosas (yum!).

The mains - Lemon Chicken, Fried Garlic Shrimps, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Veggie Noodles - were tasty too!

Glad we came here despite the rating. Recommended!

Aouch- this is not a Chinese restaurant but rather some oriental influence for older Caucasian folks. They try hard with service and decor but even the Chinese in a Cuban resort leaves one with better impression. Glad they have such good customer base, but one shouldn’t expect to find any Chinese food here

By far the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Authentic dining friendly staff. They even served our first plate of food themselves.clean classy.well priced.they even have karaoke

Some of the best classic Canadian Chinese food available. Ordered enough variety for 6 people and everyone enjoyed all the dishes.
Delivery was on time, hot, and delicious.

Dined at this location during the lunch hour. The woman behind the counter had a serious attitude problem. She led us to our table and then persistently asked what we wanted to eat, fully knowing we've been sitting for maybe 2 minutes and have not even decided yet. After refusing to see the drink (alcohol) menu, we were seriously shafted. When our food finally came (>15 minutes), portions were very limited in relation to the cost of the menu items. Beef was over-seasoned, salty. The worst part of it all is both me and my plus 1 suffered stomach aches soon after we left. Definitely will not be back and highly don't recommend. Don't even waste your time (and money!)

We had ordered a big selection for our family for Christmas day, trying to support a small local business. The food quality was average but what really upset us is that 2 of the dishes were wrong. When we called to complain the person from Cynthia's spent a good half hour arguing with us that he will credit one dish but not the other, and definitely no refund. Guess we will be supporting other restaurants from this point on, ones that actually appreciate it and understand customer service.

Why is it so expensive? Their food is passable at best. I routinely enjoy better food elsewhere.

Ordered at 10AM for pick up at 7: 45PM. Arrive to pick up our order, only to be told it’ll be another hour and a half. We arrived at 9 to collect again, and waited another half hour as they “packed the order”. Thankfully we live close but still a waste of time with no other options left last minute on Christmas Eve. I understand it’s one of their busiest days of the year but they should have stopped taking orders if they couldn’t keep up. The restaurant was full of Uber and Skip drivers. They should have turned off their ordering. It’s called GREED.

The food was bland. The chicken dish was 95% onions, and the container was half full. Beyond disappointing experience from start to finish. Unfortunately, after many years as a customer, we will not be returning.

Elegance and fine dining. Delicious dishes in a comfortable setting. Plenty of parking. Been many times and most definitely will return

Food was great, but the attitude was worst. The staff was forcing us to pay lots of tips for her although she wasn’t even our server. And the manager was saying she only got paid by tips not the hourly pay. Nonsense. Don’t go here if u wanna be treated well ‍️ And they treated me as if I don’t know anything about Canadian culture lol I felt insulted what an experience

I placed a delivery order. Food was terrible. Chicken tasted rubbery and I called to complain and management was extremely rude and offered a spring roll. 90% of the order wasn't touched. I spent $120 on garbage. Definitely gone down hill when it comes to quality

Just ordered $100 worth of dinner, wonton soup was very good but the rest of the meal very poorly done, Burnt noddles, chewy beef, very oily and over all tasteless.
Won’t be coming back.

From what we ordered, the spring rolls were delicious. And I mean, I don't know what they do with them, but pure goodness right there. The warm sake, shokoturu (? Spelling) was almost some of the best I've had, if not the best. It was on the sweeter side than I expected and I found that to be pleasant on my palate.

My partner and I then ordered the spicy beef plate and a lobster. I have no quarrel with the spicy beef plate (4/5), it was delicious but it didn't stand out. I could have gotten it from anywhere, including take out. But the biggest disappointment was their lobster. It was cooked well and the meat was flavourful but was covered in their ginger and green onion sauce, making the whole eating process that much more difficult. I've had lobster from a different Chinese restaurant near Pacific Mall (name escapes me right now) and that remains my all time favourite in terms of how they prepared their lobster (6/5). This restaurant's lobster? (3/5).

Will I come back though? Probably not. I couldn't justify their prices for the overall meal.
Would I recommend to someone? Yea. It was a good but not great place to eat.

WARNING - THORNHILL LOCATATION
We ordered through Uber Eats and according to Alice The manager, it does not matter that the beef was not cooked and flour was sticking to the outside uncooked, it does not matter that we ordered food for 7: 00 - 7: 30 time and they called UBER TO PICK UP at 6: 10 for a 6: 20 delivery, none of that matters! It is all Ubers fault.and According to Alice - the Manager - She said " the matter is closed " and between UBER and me? I get it and I will reach out to UBER but seriously, DO you not care about your regular clients? We are customers of Cynthia's not Customers of UBER! (in this situation). And ps we spent $85.00 on the meal, so It was not like a spring roll and beef.

Food was fresh and hot. Veggies cooked just right and not overcooked.
Staff appeared to be taking proper Covid precautions and food ready for pick up within time indicated. A little more costly than others for Chinese food but under the circumstances and given increased precautions not a big deterrent at this time. Probably would rate higher if a little less costly.
We would return.

I ordered beef with vegetables and Singapore noodles. It was just okay.maybe next time I'll try ordering pad thai or lemon chicken.

Everything Cynthia's makes is beyond delicious. You can tell that they put enjoyment into their food creations. You won't be disappointed!

This is a very bad restaurant, cheat customer of the restaurant, the menu on the website and the price is $11.95, but I have to pay for $14.95, in a restaurant at the checkout are required to pay 6% of the increase price again, I ordered a egg fuyoung, but just flour no eggs, very bad is not cooked flour, when we open the orders, bag no tableware set.

The price I saw on the website is $11.95, which is a reasonable price for a lunch set meal, so I searched your address and ordered the meal in your restaurant, but I had to pay $14.95 when I paid the bill. Isn't this cheating the customer? You want to raise your price by 6%. Shall remind the customers on website? Also, I asked the waiter before ordering the fuyoung eggs, he said it is eggs, but he did not tell me that most of the flour, more importantly, the flour was not cooked, the taste of a dish may not suit everyone, but does the flour in this dish need to be cooked to eat? I ordered takeout, and takeout had to give the cutlery, but there was only sauce in the bag and no cutlery.

I meet friends in this lovely spot many times a year! This is the best place to pass a nice evening. I go there routinely. The meals are just great, the workers are welcoming and the prices are affordable. I enjoy being in this spot for a tasty lunch.

Very well kept and convenient spot. They provide large portions and for reasonable rates. I enjoyed the meals very much and the waiters were very welcoming and explanatory. Will definitely recommend this spot.

I've been to many Chinese restaurants and this is on pricey end but I just love the decor and great atmosphere. They have two different menus: a Chinese menu that's has more authentic dishes and a English menu that tailors to North American taste buds. I've tried from both and either way you can't go wrong. Chefs are fantastic!

Tip: Go at dinner time as there is often live music. Great place to go when you want to impress your guests!

My wife and I went last night for date night, b to the Newmarket locations and having great experiences we thought we would try for Thornhill location. Big mistake. Although the staff were congenial upon arrival and very friendly and welcoming that is where I could experience and it I ordered our meal when it arrived halfway through eating it we found a large bug in my wife's meal you called over the waiter he looked and saw it all that's from the vegetables will make you some new vegetables no it's okay so no will make your new vegetables and then he proceeded to pack up whatever food was left to go.after the food was packed up theybrought it to us along with the full bill for everything needless to say I was flabbergasted and not wanting to cause a scene just paid the bill and we left needless to say we dump the food on the way home please for more bugs in it we will never return to this location again I was disgustedI would suggest if you want to go to Cynthia's go to Newmarket as they are restaurants are cleaner I have never experienced this before at those locations.

Cynthia's is a classic fine dining Chinese restaurant that my family and I live to go to. They offer a wide verity of food options, having plenty of vegetarian options as well, making it easy for guests with particular diets. The staff are very kind, polite and attentive. When dining, (busy or slow) we always feel well waited on.
We highly recommend the ok beef or the ok chicken, being some of my favourite meat dishes. The beef being more lean and crunchy and the chicken being more meaty and tender.
The house rice is the perfect please all dish, having many different meats with the options for substitutions if needed.
My personal favourite is the crispy Cantonese chow mein, or the lo mein. Having both seafood or chicken options (I personally like the seafood) with a mix of veggies is a great choice.
Lastly they value all customers making them always feel welcome.
If you pay cash they always give you money like coupons to use on your next visit, making it great for families like mine who love to dine there.

Still Going Strong After All These Years!

I've been going to Cynthia's for what seems like forever. Over the years I've had family dinners, graduations dinners, promotion celebrations, birthdays, nights out, dates, and other reasons to eat there. I've had food off the regular menu and food from the group menus. I live in Markham now and food is different, but Cynthia's has a great combination of classic Chinses dishes, North-American style dishes and not only that they also can cater to almost any dietary request. They have always been good with that. Cynthia's is not only a great restaurant but it has a very opulent decor with an almost theatre-like dining experience.

One of the reasons I keep coming back is the food. Over the years the food has been consistent in flavour, freshness and presentation. When you go to a place like this you must know already what you like from the sauces to the cooking style. This way you'll always get a great meal. You will find beef dishes, pork, chicken, and seafood dishes as well as vegetarian/Vegan. Call ahead and let them know when you make your reservation what the dietary concern or food allergy may be. They have always been great at accommodating special requests.

Over the years there has only been once or twice that there was something I didn't like with the dish, and they more than happily replaced it with a fresh plate or offered a suggestion for something else. The same for any other person who was with me at the table. Service is one thing you will get in droves. The well-dressed staff are always happy and polite and there to help you have a great experience. This is why I keep coming back. This night was no different, we had a large group with kids, folks with allergies, with vegans and one person with a food allergy. We paid a little extra for our set menu but the food came out as everyone wanted so that all of us were happy. Cynthia's always been good to me so give them a chance, I'm sure you'll agree.

Went here with my wife and daughter. Love the layout of the place, food was delicious, a bit pricey but delicious nonetheless. Service was amazing. Would definitely go here again when around the area.

Very overrated. Very pricy. Some of there dishes are just average at best and bland. The only thing nice is the formal and ambience of the restaurant. They live to charge for every single every little thing even the chill sauce $3.50. Are you kidding me? After spending over $100 take out for just 2 people you have the nerve to charge that? There are chinese restos just as good or better priced much less. The only think good is if u dine in here I suppose.

As good as it gets in "safe" Chinese cuisine that caters mostly to non Chinese, oddly upscale and elegant in a category where plain decor is the norm.

WOW, stumbled across this place, over the top service, excellent food and decor but $$$$$ dinner for 2 (3 mains & 2 ice tea $75) but it was fantastic

Delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine, hosted in a restaurant flourishing with gilded age Oriental decor. The crispy beef is out of this world!

Bad bad experience. I would never go back or order from this Cynthia restaurant.
Order food for a party. The delivery finally showed up 1.5 late. The food was cold and restless. Manager kept hanging on us or lying that the delivery is coming soon. When I went back they would not refund or even apologized.
Restaurant does not look clean and service, horrible I would not recomend this restaurant at all. They should learn about customers service first and cooking good food too. One star irs even too much for them. They always asking for cash so they can skip the tax paying. Illega!

Restaurant is nice, wait staff wear traditional clothing. Now the food, unremarkable. Service took over 2 hours to receive food to the table.
I returned one dish, as the taste was unacceptable. I had to force it in the waiter to return. Manager said. "You want cancel" I tried to replace the dish, abd manager said " you want cancel" i said yes. That was the last i saw of any wait staff.
There has to be better food, for your money.

Food was ok, but well over two hours waiting for take out. 2 dishes were wrong. This is the second time the order was messed up. I will try a different place next time.

Ripped off my mom and dad.orders wontons and got spring rolls and only 4 of them! Tipped them $2 but they weren't happy! Never had anyone ask for tips. These people are so cheap. Good food and good staff nevertheless

I've been coming to this place for many years and I'm sorry to say but once most favourite Restaurant of Chinese cuisine is no more. The customer service is bad reservations are mixed up wrong times
The staff is acting like they can't wait for you to leave the uniforms are not clean the food is getting worse
It is not a luxury restaurant any longer
